Iweb pages all jumbled

After a period of NOT updating website........open to find text on one website all jumbled up.  Website appears OK online........but not sure what to do and/or how to change.
Have a couple other websites that appear OK
Any ideas?

Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

  • Can no longer update one of my iWeb pages (all others are working properly)

I have an iWebsite with several pages. One of these pages is no longer working correctly. The page that is causing problems contains a series of text boxes and hyperlinks (which allow people to download PDFs). I can no longer update the vast majority of this page, nor can I see where the different text boxes start or begin. (I am currently only able to change the title, not the body.)
When I go online to look at the actual published site, I am able to download all of the desired PDFs, however I cannot highlight or copy any of the text written on the page (this is not the case for the other pages of the website).
I have updated this page several times over the last few years and have never run into this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong and/or how I might remedy the situation?
Thank you in advance!!! Your advice is much appreciated!

+You mean you can't see the text or can't see the text box sides and drag points?+
+Do a Select All and see what you see.+
When I select all I am able to see the text box that houses the body of the page.
+What happens if you were to click in the center of the page and hit the delete key (you can always do an Undo command)?+
Nothing happens. I can only delete the entire page (using the select all approach).
+What happens if you click on the center of the page and drag to one side or another?+
Nothing happens when I do this. I can move this main text box by moving each side individually.
+I can see the text in the page's html file and it is an image file: http://web.mac.com/naomieisenberger/san/NaomiEisenberger_SAN_Papers_files/shapeimage1.png. If you go to the page it's a very fine, 1 pixel, image at the very top of the page. You'll see the cursor change to a magnifying glass. At that time click and drag to the desktop. It won't look like you're dragging anything till you get to the desktop.+
Yes, this is the problem. This space is acting as if (or rather has been) converted to a graphic. Each reference listed on that page has been entered separately over time. It seems like the last time this section was updated it was saved as an image/graphic. I am not even sure how this would have happened or how to undo this issue. Do you know or have any further suggestions?
Is there a way to view the html code on iWeb. . . to just work in code?
+So you have to somehow figure out how to get it back to plain text. Do you have iWeb's preferences set to display the text image indicator?+
Yes, there is a small yellow symbol.
+You may have to create a new page to replace this one.+
Thank you so much for all of the great advice!

  • IWeb pages all turned red even when no update

I have been using iWeb for my blog (hosted by mobileme) and it has all been working fine. However earlier today I opened it and all the pages have turned from blue to red even though I have made no changes since I last updated it. iWeb won't let me revert to saved (it is greyed out) and when I try to re-publish the site it says I do not have enough space and that my iDisk storage is full (it shows this on my site publishing settings as well) even though when I go to my iDisk settings in system preferences I have lots of space left. Anyone have any ideas what is going on and how I can fix the problem?

This too is occurring on my system. The domain I am working with currently contains seven sites; six publishing to my Mobile Me account, and one publishing local to a file folder. I have a series of domain files backed up to experiment in evaluating this issue. I have attempted the resolution steps described in "iWeb: Issues publishing to MobileMe" article TS2588 Last Modified: February 16, 2009, however, the issue persists.
When publishing one of the six sites to Mobile Me, upon successful completion, some of the other sites that had previously been successfully published/updated, and reflected as "blue," change to be represented as requiring changes to be published reflected as "red."
Note that there are links in the Main site that point to resources on the other sites and this appears to possibly be related to what is occurring. Also, I have noted that, although the sites that change to "red" in this instance when making them active, by selecting one of the page within the "red" site, the publish button is inactive indicating the site is actually not requiring publishing/update contrary to its icons changing from "blue" to "red."
Seems like a pretty straight forward issue. I suspect the Apple iWeb team will resolve it real soon once everyone returns from the holidays, if not sooner; although, we don't want to be Scrooges do we.
In the meantime, I recommend using the technique of using the publish button at the lower left of the iWeb pane to determine if "Publish Entire" or Publish Changes" is truly required. And, to be sure, simply check the content online. Remember to empty your browser cache (under the File Menu in Safari, and in Advanced, Tools, or Security in other browsers) so you can be sure your obtaining the most current content.
Little software hiccups like this is not unusual in all applications no matter what computer platform. It can be frustrating, but don't let it be. When encountering minor issues like this try to be philosophical. If you get frustrated, simply step away and move onto something else for a while before revisited it and figure a way to work around it until a resolution to the problem is made available. Typically, major issues get fixed real quickly, but minor issues take a back seat to the major ones.
    Happy Holidays!

  • IWeb page looking jumbled on the net and not my computer

I think this may be the first time I've published my web page to the net with 08 and its not translated some of the images. A couple new pictures i've added are only showing as a question mark and parts of the actual apple template art are also question marks on a page i created a while ago. Also, some fonts are large, etc. I've refreshed and republished several times with no change. something isn't translating or something. If someone could lend a bit of help, this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • In trying to transfer iWeb pages (not uploaded) to another computer I went into the library and transferred the domain onto the desktop. Disaster! On opening iWeb all previous (uploaded) sites have disappeared. Help!

In trying to transfer iWeb pages (not uploaded) to another computer I went into the Library and transferred the domain onto the desktop. Disaster! On opening iWeb all previous (uploaded) sites have disappeared. On opening the domain all I can recover is the many component parts, and when unzipped the code. Help! Mike

Code in a domain file - really?  That is not possible because the domain.sites file does not contain any html or css code at all - the domain file is your iWeb data file and you won't see any code until you publish your website.
If you can see html code, then you have the wrong file and it is a published version of your site which iWeb can do nothing with - iWeb has no import facility so cannot open any html files.
Go back and ensure that you have the correct domain.sites files that can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and if you have Mavericks then you need to go to Go and press the alt key to reveal your hidden User Library, so that you can then get to Application Support and then iWeb and then your domain.sites file.
You will also need to go and download either DomainCracker or iWebSwitch which allows you to open individual domain files under Mavericks, because from Lion onwards, you cannot open individual domain files.
Also, it says that you are still using iWeb 08?  If this is so, you'll either need to upgrade to iWeb 09 by going to Amazon and purchasing the iLife 09 or 11 boxed set, both of which contain iWeb 09 or you need to switch to newer software that is actively being supported and developed such as EverWeb (http://www.everwebapp.com).

  • Using iWeb pages in emails

I've created a site to run alongside an existing shopping site and host additional content. Originally I was going to upload the iWeb pages to the shopping site's server but Mac's absurdly long URL's for blogs prevented that.
Nevertheless, I have used my dot.mac account to host the additional content.
However, I would like to send emails to our registered users that mimics a page I have created in iWeb - a html email newsletter if you like.
    Can I do that?
I've tried highlighting the whole page and pasting it into an email window (Mac Mail) but that doesn't really work as all the images and text get jumbled up. Is there a way round this or am I expecting too much of iWeb at this stage.
    The site is at:
    http://web.mac.com/lewiseckett/iWeb/UGOsports/Welcome.html

Go to the site in Safari then in Safari go to File/Mail Contents of This Page (Apple - i).

  • Display data from CSV file in iWeb page

    Hi,
I like to display data from a CSV file in iWeb page if a date value from CSV file matches todays value from the system. Here is an example.
    CSV data values
    01/20/2011,Sunny,87
    01/21/2011,Cloudy,100
    01/22/2011,Rainy,60
If today's date value is 01/21/2011 the page should display 01/21/2011 Cloudy 100 in a tabular format.
Appreciate your help in providing HTML code for this issue.
    Thanks

I suspect there is a soft return in the excel database somewhere that can't be seen. Take the csv/txt file into notepad and look for a line that starts oddly compared to the others.
I haven't had luck removing soft returns from excel files so I do this a rather odd way. I take the excel file into InDesign as a table, and then use find/change to replace any soft returns with nothing, then convert the text to table and then export the text out again by going export, and selecting text from the dropdown menu.
For my money, I always save tab delimited text files from excel so that if a field does contain commas, it doesn't "trick" indesign into thinking a new field is beginning or not... instead the field delimiters are tabs and they are unlikely to have been used in the excel database.
If you do choose to use this indesign import method of mine to clean up the database, i also noticed two things in your screengrab: first was that some fields have spaces at the start of the text... easy enough to fix with a GREP that looks for ^\s (start of a sentence followed by a space) and replace with nothing. The second thing is the T&C field that all entries (at least in the screengrab) all start the same – if all entries in the database start the same, couldn't that line be in the indesign file? Its only a small detail I know.

  • How to stop text box on iWeb page from automatically reverting to hyperlink when I click 'save'

As far as I see, the main text box in the body section of my iWeb page reverts to a hyperlink (connecting to a file) when I click save.  I don't know how the hyperlink got activated to begin with--I must have done something, but I don't know what it was.  I tried this many times to fix it: went to Inspector "hyperlink" section, activated the text box in the page, un-clicked "make hyperlinks active" (so they are inactive), then un-clicked "Enable as a hyperlink."  That much works--the hyperlink (little white arrow in blue circle) disappears from the lower right corner of text box.  But as soon as I save (command S), the text box reverts to a hyperlink.
If I don't click save and move around the pages, it does not revert to a hyperlink.  It only reverts to a hyperlink when the file is saved.  Why is it doing this and how to stop this from happening--how to permanently return the text box to a non-hyperlink?
The website page is: http://www.usronline.net/USR/VedicResearch.html.  If you click anywhere randomly in the main text, you'll get a prompt to download a PDF file.  This should not be, but I can't get this hyperlink to go away for good.
    Many thanks in advance.

Please pardon the reply delay--a big project deadline had to be met.  Now back to this work:
Yes, the text in the oval object had a drop shadow (the oval object itself did not).  I removed the drop shadow from the text, but the image file icon stayed in the right corner of the oval object.  I deleted the text and then the image file icon disappeared.  But as soon as I typed text again inside the oval object (not even pasting the previous text) the image file icon appeared again.  I deleted the oval object entirely and simply typed the text inside the main text box itself.  The image file icon that was attached to that oval object is gone (along with the oval object).
Still the image file icon is attached to the main text box, though.  I again tried to uncheck the Enable as hyperlink (same process as described in first posting) with that oval object gone, but when I "save" again it reverts to a hyperlink.
Next I tried this: I copied the text from the problem text box and pasted it into another text box (outside of the problem one).  Still in the new text box with the pasted text, the image file icon shows in the upper right corner.
I also removed all the drop shadow features from this main text box (there was one more, on some words typed in the main text box), but it is still showing as an image.
I don't know how it became an image file, and I'm still stumped as to how to fix it (short of forgetting about trying to figure out how it became an image and just retyping all text into a new text box).
The link you provided for "Web Safe Fonts" is returning this: "The server at www.ampsoft.net is taking too long to respond."  I'm using Arial and Georgia (Georgia only on the menu and header text) in the site, and I had verified before designing the site that these are web safe, so I had thought they were.
If you or anyone have any further suggestions or suspicions on this matter, I'd be glad to hear them.
    Thank you.

  • Can you work on the same iweb page on 2 different computers?

hi, i usually work on my imac doing my iweb pages, i would like to work on a second ibook that is in the house. i've tried and tried but can't find a way for the ibook one to pick up the pages. it has the same .mac idisk folder as the other mac with the iweb backup but won't start up with the iweb pages, the iweb starts up blank asking for its first page.
    is there a way?
    thanks

Chuck thanks, I found I can do it from that post, all you need to do is copy the iweb main folder to a USB mini, then I replace the iWeb folder in the next machine... it works great, you just have to remember to update it when you leave one machine and add the update to the next.

  • How can I convert iWeb page to html with NO javascript for email campaign?

I have a holiday greeting I made in iWeb '09 for my business. The service I'm using to use to manage my mailing list wants me to strip all javascript code from the page so it is not seen as spam when it is emailed.
How can I convert the page made in iWeb to an html page with no javascript?
    Thanks

How can I convert the page made in iWeb to an html page with no javascript?
You cannot. There will be nothing left. iWeb pages rely a lot on JavaScript.
Use a template from Mail.app. Or create such template. These are simple TABLES and have no JavaScript in it.
Do Cmd-Shift-G in the finder and type :
    /Library/Application Support/Apple/Mail/Stationery/Apple/Contents/Resources/
Open one of the folders and open each successive folder until you see files like Picnic.mailstationery.
Right-click to show the package content.
Then navigate thru Contents, Resources until you see the files and images you need.
Edit them to your hearts content.
Double-click the file Picnic.mailstationery and it will open in Mail.app for further processing.

  • Looking for 'music player' widget to play songs dragged onto iWeb page

Has anyone found a 'music player' widget that can be embedded into an iWeb page, and that can then load and play the songs that have been dragged onto that page?
I have found several such widgets that can scan a URL for mp3 files, and I have successfully embedded each of those widgets into an iWeb page using the HTML Snippet, but none of them could find the mp3 files that I dragged onto the page, even though I supplied the widget with the URL for that page.

Wyodor, I just wanted to let you know that I am having a lot of fun with the WimpyPlayer, and I like the skin you sent me. Thank you so much.
I've been playing around with it. I had to reduce the height of the widget to fit on my webpage, but when I did, the text became too small to read, so instead, I went into the skin's jpeg and cut out the midsection of the playlist area. Then I had to readjust the playlist's number of lines displayed and its slider size to fit. I also changed the color scheme to match my webpage, and some of the Help tags. All in all, it looks great, and I am very happy with it.
The one feature I miss from when I was using iWeb's built-in QuickTime player is the ability to have a photo (such as an album cover) displayed with the music. Do you happen to know of any music players that enable you to attach a photo with each track or album?

  • Ical in my Iweb page

I can not figure out how to put a calendar into my Iweb page since the upgrade. Anyone have any suggestions.

    Martin:
I don't know if this will work for all viewers but go to our calendar online and set the preferences to have monthly as the default and hit the Apply button. That will set it for you but don't know if it will carry over for other users.
You can try my embedded calendar in this test page and see if you get weeks or months. I get months when I load the page.

  • Copying iweb pages from one computer to another

I have iweb pages operational on a G5.
I want to transfer them to iweb on my macbook instead.
I don't want to re-create them from scratch.
    I have a .mac account.
Both iweb programs are the same version.
This is a mac! There must be an easy way to copy the web pages from one computer to another!
I explored the domain file route, copied the file from my G5 to the macbook, and did not get the pages I wanted. Instead I got the start page template. My information was not there.
    Any help out there?

All your information is in a single file called "domain"
By default it should be located in your
    user/library/application support/iWeb/ folder.
Find it, copy it, and move it to the new computer.
The first time you use it on the new computer double click the newly moved "domain" file to start up the iWeb application. Once you do that iWeb will remember that that is the file to open on start-up.
I use multiple computers to edit iWeb and to avoid confusion as to which "domain" file is the most recent, I just keep it on a flash drive. Be sure to keep "domain" backed up safely on your computers and off (CD disks, external hard drives, etc) because if you lose that one file, you've lost all your work. iWeb cannot edit published pages.
The reason you got blank pages is that you have to double click on the newly moved "domain" file to start up iWeb. Otherwise iWeb will start from the blank "domain" file that is already on the computer. You can have many "domain" files on the computer, If you start the iWeb application by clicking the iWeb icon, it will open the last "domain" file edited on that computer, which isn't the one you just moved. There is no other way to access your work.

  • Tip: How to link to a non-iWeb page in the main navigation menu.

I've figured out an easy way to add a link to the main navigation menu which links to a URL of your choosing. For example, I have an older .Mac site using the now archaic HomePage. Instead of rebuilding all of my old pages in iWeb, I thought it would be nice to add a link to the old site from the top main navigation of the iWeb pages. Sounds easy, right? Apparently Apple has other ideas as iWeb doesn't allow you to do this.
    Here's a work-a-round:
Step 1.) Open iWeb and add a new page to your iWeb site. Pick any template, it doesn't matter which one.
Step 2.) Change the page name to whatever you want using the page inspector. Whatever you choose as a name here will be reflected in the main navigation menu. For example, I named my page "Photo Archives".
Step 3.) You don't need to edit this new page at all. In fact, we're going to erase all of the content in it later. Now publish your site.
Step 4.) If you're using .Mac, mount your iDisk to your desktop. Then navigate through the folders to: Web -> Sites -> iWeb -> <Your Site Name>. If you're hosting your site somewhere else, navigate to your root directory.
Step 5.) You should now be looking at all of the files which make up your iWeb site. Open the dummy page we created in Step 2 in a text editor. I used BBEdit, but TextEdit (see note below) will work just fine. For example, my dummy page is named "Photo Archives.html".
Note: If you're going to use TextEdit, you need to select the checkbox "Ignore rich-text commands in HTML files" from the Open & Save pane of the Preferences dialog PRIOR to opening the file from your iDisk.
Step 6.) Select all of the text (Command-A) and Delete.
Step 7.) Paste the following text, substituting the URL you want to link to.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><title></title><meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://www.mydomain.com/mypage.html" /></head><body></body></html>
Step 8.) Save the file. You're done! You now have a link in the main navigation which goes to any URL you want.
      Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi,
I'm OK to step seven but in your example can you highlight or make bold the "url address part " I'm to replace with my own?
    Thanks!
Step 6.) Select all of the text (Command-A) and
    Delete.
Step 7.) Paste the following text, substituting the
URL you want to link to.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE html
    PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
    td"><html
    xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><title></ti
    tle><meta http-equiv="refresh"
    content="0;url=http://www.mydomain.com/mypage.html"
    /></head><body></body></html>
Step 8.) Save the file. You're done! You now have a
link in the main navigation which goes to any URL you
    want.

  • When I send a link to my iweb page it doesn't open

If I want to send a link of my iweb page to someone, the way I do it is firstly open the page online, copy the link from the browsers address and then from mail I goto "add hyperlink" paste the link in and then send, all looks ok, but when the other person tries to open, the link will not.
I sent to myself to test and found that the link address once sent this way from mail, is different than the original. Where the original address would be %20 it is now %2520. The number 25 is placed in front of 20 numerous times through out the link and so of course the site won't open.
    Would hugely appreciate any feedback,
    thanks
    torder

I decided to edit my post and add some more info but I guess I took too long. So here's an edited version:
Idea 1 - the simple method: Forget the "add hyperlink" part. Just paste the address into your email message by hand. It comes out as a hyperlink (though it does not appear so when you are crafting the message) and does not create the problem you are having.
Idea 2 - the prettier method: Use "add hyperlink" but do some editing first. When you paste the hyperlink into the box you must replace each "%20" with a space. The link will be displayed in your email message as you would like it to appear - with spaces instead of %20's - but the underlying link will have the %20's. I can't guarantee it will come out pretty with every email program and every preference setting someone might use but any good program should get it right.
