IWeb PDFs

How do I add a pdf link to my website so that when clicked on it always opens the pdf in a new window, regardless of right-click or left-click or how any individual visitor's browser preferences are set? -- Thanks.

You wouldn't normally put a PDF on a web page as only one page of it will display.
You would link to a PDF file so that viewers can download it by clicking the link.
You do both this and set a web page to open in a new window in the "Link" inspector.

  • Iweb pdf problems

I am using iweb and have been for some time to publish our website. I updated some PDF files today using inspector, enable as a hyperlink, select a file etc. This usually works very smoothly.
I published the site, cleared my cache, then used safari to visit it. When I click on the links to open the PDF documents, I get a blank page, it's like it didn't publish a copy of the file.
I tried opening the PDF files, resaving them with new names, and redoing the hyperlinks but it made no difference.
All the other updates apart from the PDF's published successfully.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

This page will explain how to add the files or, better still, upload them to the server...

  • IWeb stalls adding .epub as FILE

I've got a book site, book page created in iWeb, published the .PDF of the book and the screenplay.  Created links to the files, they apparently upload with the web page to the website.  Both options work - view the PDF of the book, PDF of the screenplay.
Since the book's in Pages, I used the Export as EPUB option, tested the .epub file with an Adobe reader, looks fine.
I wanted to add the .epub to the same page, created a text box, tried to hotlink it to the .epub file sitting on my desktop, iWeb simply spins with the Beach Ball Of Death.
Killed it, tried again, same result.  Is .epub a disallowed file type?  I'm hosting on MobileMe (yes I know it's going away)
How could I make it available for download from an iWeb created web page?
    thanks

Create a zip of the file and upload it to your server. Create a hyperlink to the zip file on the web page and the file will download when the link is clicked.

  • How to Publish old iweb blog saved in pages?

I have a series of blogs created in an early version of iweb. I saved them to my desktop in a folder in a Pages format. If I want to export them to iweb 09 to eventually publish them to machighway (since mobileme is "dying").  There are two choices from which to select:PDF and one other the name of which I forget. What is my best choice? In order to publish I need to get these files into iweb (I believe). They also exist as a web archive, which I can open but which I do not know how to handle beyond that. I really want to preserve (maybe share) these memoirs. Any ideas? I am running snow leopard on my imac and have pages 09.

You could export them as PDFs and make them available for download...

  • PDF to b opened in a new window or in a download frame

when using hyperlink in iweb pdf file is opening in the same window. how can i make so the file is opening either in a new window or in a "save as" frame?

If you upload the pdf file to the server manually and then link to it via the Inspector/Hyperlink pane with the Link to option An External Page (with the checkbox to open in a new window selected) you can have the pdf file open in a new window where it can be viewed or downloaded.
This demo page has an example of that: LinkTestPage . Look for the text box with the following text: This text box is linked to view/download a pdf file". Click on it to view. In the view window there is a download button (second from left).

I made an iweb site but used "gallery" for videos that people could download. Now "gallery" is going to disappear but I want people still to be able to download my videos if I choose. I thought I would put this option on my iweb site but don't know how to do it? Any suggestions.

Create a zip of your movie files - Finder/File/Compress - and upload them to a folder on the server.

  • How do I embed downloadable mp3 in iWeb?

    Hello,
I want to enbed some downloable mp3's on my web-page created in iWeb. As I see it I can only drag the files on to the page but then they are transformed in Quicktime Player links to be listened to while on the page, NOT downloadable.
I have been reading here and there on the Internet to find a solution and also downloaded Cyberduck and trasfered a file to the server hosting my site but then I did not know what to do next. iWeb changes the setting if I try to make a hyperlink to the ftp-adress on the server, and sends me to the apple.live-page. Grrr...
    Help?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Download a PDF

My JSF app produces a PDF file on the server (using Jasper Reports as it happens). I want to add a link to that .pdf, so that the user can click to view or save the report. But I don't want the link to be publicly available / potentially guessable to unauthorised users.

The best way is to link to a zip of the PDF on your server. See this page for more info...

  • IWeb site not downloading documents

I created an iWeb site about a year ago.  Up to date, I haven't had any real issues with it.  However, all of a sudden, the documents that I've made available for downloads from my site aren't downloading for some reason.  I have checked the file directories and made sure that the paths are correct.  Nothing!  They are simple PDF files so nothing too complicated.  Any thoughts on what I should do?

  • How do I share a garageband track when iWeb doesn't work?

Used to have a iWeb account to show off the kids to family and friends overseas. Without MobileMe it doesn't work. What do I do instead? My immediate issue is that my daughter needs a track she made in garageband, at school, and I thought she could pick it up on iWeb. But no... Any ideas?

  • Iweb '08 creating "numbered file" links to mp3s. . .can't get rid of 'em

So I made a bunch of changes to my site recently, and I'm guessing that has everything to do with my problem, nevertheless, I don't know how to solve it.
I have a page on my site with links to mp3 files that are my own songs.   All of this worked fine until the most recent changes to my site (early today).  Now, instead of the link linking to, for instance, "file.mp3", it'll link to "file-2.mp3"      I've gone back and relinked them to the proper files, only to find that when I save, it reverts to a numbered link. Furthermore, seems like the number increases each time I attempt to reset it.   It's like it thinks these files are linked to somewhere else on the site, which they aren't, and even if they are, by chance, it's never done this until my most recent update.
Now, I did duplicate that music page and made another page to be used in conjunction with it, but deleted all the links off the duplicate. Does that have something to do with it?
Is there another way to link to an MP3 file than the standard hyperlink setup? Something that'll solve my issue? Thanks.

Using the Link inspector to link to a file is not the best way to go about it since the file has to load with the web page.
Its better to upload the files to the server and create a hyperlink to each file. Zip the files if you want them to download.
This page shows the method for PDFs but its the same idea for MP3/MP4. See under PDF DOwnloads...

  • Hyperlink to a file causes FTP error?

If I insert a hyperlink to a file that is located on my local hard drive, the site will not publish. iWeb says 'error communicating with the FTP server', and contact your service provider, etc.
If I remove the link, everything publishes fine.  I am assuming the file can be anywhere, and iWeb will create a copy and move it (FTP) to the web server. Or do I need to manually put the file on the FTP site myself?  If so, how do I refer to it in the iWeb designer?

If you are using the iWeb FTP to upload your site files they will be inside a folder as described here...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/URLs-Favicons.html
The PDF you upload needs to be outside of this folder or iWeb will overwrite it when you next publish changes. Create a folder and name it something like PDF-Downloads. Put the .pdf file inside and upload it to the root folder using an FTP app. The link will be...
