Iweb-personal domain problem

Im having issues with registering my iweb site under my own domain name(yes, I own it)
When I go to <file> and then to <setting up personal domain> it then takes me to< .mac login> which then takes me to my <.mac account settings> where there is nothing indicating anything about domain registration. Any thoughts? Thanks...

There should be a button over at the right, 4th one down, called Personal Domain.
Are you using iWeb 08?
You can't "register" your domain with Apple, it has to be actually held somewhere else, where you are able to modify the www CNAME entry.

  • IWeb hanging at logging into MobileMe (Personal Domain Problem)

I've searched and searched for an answer to my problem all over the internet and these forums and keep coming up blank.
Apologies if the answer is somewhere and I've missed it.
It could be a wider problem with my MobileMe, but iWeb is where it first occurred.
I recently had my personal website forwarding to my MobileMe site, and was using the MobileMe webspace to host my site. I had set my personal domain (in MobileMe) to the personal website. Why I did this I'm not sure, as I wasn't actually using the external webspace, merely forwarding it to my MobileMe site.
However I then decided I wanted to create a new site and this is where the problems began to occur. When I tried to publish the new site, it seemingly tried to publish to personaldomain/new_website name/ which obviously didn't exist as there was no external webspace there.
I then decided to reset everything, get rid of the personal domain setting within MobileMe and just merely forward my external web addresses to my Me sites. Upon deleting my Personal Domain from the mobileme settings page and logging into iWeb, the website name next to my username was still my external website address, and iWeb seemed to think it was all still published (which it was, as when I went to my web.me.com/etc, my website was there) However I wanted to start from scratch and republish everything, so I deleted all the web/sites section from my idisk, and hoped I could republish everything (this could have been a mistake!)
Now when I try to publish, iWeb just hangs at logging into MobileMe and won't publish anything. iPhoto also won't upload new photo albums and neither will aperture. They just hang at syncing galleries.
I'm completely at a loss as to how to proceed. I've deleted preferences from iweb and also logged out of mobileme, put a fake name in and logged back in again (to clear the cache I think) and still iweb hangs. I've even tried creating a new user account and logging in there and still it hangs.
Apologies for the essay of a post, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Just some suggestions as to where to go would be helpful. I'm wondering if it's something to do with Keychains? I had a brief look in there but it all went over my head. This is the first problem I've ever had with my new mac, and being from a PC background, don't really know where to look to fix things.
Thanks in advance to people who even get through reading the entire post!

If stephen's suggestion doesn't help you might consider the following:

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
Here is what fixed it. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.
Although for a different MMe issue it will clear out the MMe login info so you can enter everything anew and give it a fresh start.

  • Iweb, personal domain, CNAME problems

    Hi,
We have the following problem, no assistance being provided from .dotmac (2 days, 3 days - 2 requests).
    Symptoms:
    we have followed apple's instructions:
    1) Ensuring that we have a proper domain name (www.xxx.com.au)
    2) Ensuring that we have created a CNAME alias (www.xxx.com.au -> web.mac.com)
    3) Associating the name www.xxx.com.au as our personal domain
    4) Allowed more than 48 hrs
    5) Publishing to the website which works okay (ww.xxx.com.au via the latest release of iWeb which supports personal domains). (Iweb shows [email protected] www.xxx.com.au at the bottom of the window). Files are in subdirectory idisk web/Sites/XXX.
All that has happened so far is that when you type in www.xxx.com.au in a browser window, you see a redirection to web.mac.com and then to http://www.apple.com/dotmac.

  • Remove Personal Domain Problem

Hi. I had a personal domain setup and it was working fine. I recently removed the domain from my .Mac account. iWeb still thinks it is publishing to the domain, and shows the little green indicator light at the bottom with my domain. After it publishes, the Visit Site button tries to load up with my domain and not with the .mac address.
How can I get it to revert to the .mac address mode?

I'm pretty good on computers but my dad asked him to help him with a Mac problem so here I am...
Our good friend has built our website from his computer at his house, me and my dad need to be able to edit the website using iWeb (the same program our friend uses) so we can make appropriate changes...
We can log into the .Mac the same one that our friend uses but we can't figure out how to actually "load" the work our friend has already done so we can add to it and edit it...
    Any advice is appreciated

  • Personal Domain problem.

I am unable to reverse (cancel, annul, stop, call off, scratch, scrub) the link that has somehow or other been created between Mobile Me and a domain, hosted by GoDaddy, that I own but never use.
So, when I update my iWeb pages and 'publish changes' and then visit my site I find myself on the GoDaddy site.
I admit that I recently discovered that it was possible to have a Mobile Me site forwarded and I even looked at the page in GoGdaddy where it was possible to change the CNAME. however, I did not complete the process.
I have spoken to customer support at GoDaddy, who have been very accommodating, and they assure me that they have cleared any links, but the problem persists.
    What next?
    Any clues, anyone?
    Cordially,
    David Amies

    Of course there is!
Log into your MobileMe account under System Preferences and then go to the Personal preferences section. Under there you will find on the left hand side, Personal Domain Settings. Click on this and where your personal domain name is entered, there will also be a delete button on the right hand side. Click on delete and your domain is removed.

  • Personalized Domain Problems

I currently have two .mac websites, and wanted to create a personalized domain name for only one of them. I followed the steps, purchased my domain name, changed the cname and then clicked publish all to .mac, only when I did this instead of seeing the site I had the domain name planned for at that domain, I saw my other site. Is there any way I can switch this around and have my other site associated with the domain name with out deleting either of my sites?

The easiest way to do this is to set up a separate user account on your Mac, and use that account for one of your sites. The iWeb program will see only the one .Mac account you have set in the preferences.
This is a problem with several Mac products - they go so much for simplicity that they lock you into their 1 and only paradigm, cutting out flexibility. I wish I could select individual domain files for iWeb, and easily switch between several different iPhoto files. But you cannot do either. It can get frustrating at times!!!

  • How to use iPhoto web gallery with iWeb & personal domain name

So, another question about iWeb 08:
I've set up my site to use a personal domain name, like www.mypersonaldomain.com. I've configured everything with my DNS settings so that it actually points to my iWeb site, and I'm happy about that.
However, I've imported a few iPhoto '08 web galleries into my site, but when I browse to them by going to www.mypersonaldomain.com and clicking on the link for my gallery, it goes to a URL that actually shows my .mac account, i.e. gallery.mac.com/sockdaddy/gallery1/photo.jpg
Is there any way to have the web galleries that I'm using become a more transparent part of my iWeb site, and use my personal domain?

I've never done this on .Mac but I do use this on my server. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
In iPhoto select your web gallery and in the "file" menu select "export" and then "Web Page".
Select your options and click "Export" to the desktop.
There are now 4 folders and an index.html file.
Change the name of the index file to whatever you want to call the page e.g WebGallery.html
Now go to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites and open your website folder.
Drag and drop the 4 folders and the html file from your desktop into this.
Create a link to this from your website in the "link" inspector and choose "external page".
The URL for the link will be the same as any other page on your site except WebGallery is substituted for the page name.
If you check the "open link in new window" you won't have to worry about the fact that you don't have a link back to your site from the WebGallery page.

  • Make RSS feed with iWeb, personal domain name

I have a question I jus can't figure out, even asked at an Apple store today in Minnesota.
I created my website with iWeb, simple to do and used my personal domain, http://www.jannetwalsh.com.
I just can't figure out how to create the RSS feed.
Do I need to place a feed file in the public file where I "house" my site?  Any suggestions would be great.  I am learning and would love to learn more!
    Thanks,
    Jannet

iWeb is being phased out. Suggest you put your efforts into something you don't have to redo right away.

  • Personal Domain - Problem with CNAME

Video nerd here who knows zero about web...
My website han't been touched in about 5 years since I had it built. I decided to buy iWeb 08 specifically so I could do my own thing and still use the web address I've been using for years.
I followed all the directions from iWeb, and got my host on the phone to change my cname settings. They released all the permissions for me to do that, and when we tried, we got this error:
CNAME web.mac.com.' is invalid (CNAME aliases to zone name are not allowed per RFC 2219))
They guy on the phone with me at Intermedia said he didn't know what was up. He tried to find answers on Apple's site, but no luck.
Anybody here able to give me a hand with this?
    Much appreciated!

  • Site made with iWeb using personal domain name

I have created a web site on iWeb 08 and have a personal domain name through Network Solutions.
The website was published to Mobile Me after "set up personal domain" was done. The C Name record was changed at Network Solutions to web.me.com. When I write the domain name in the browser a box comes down asking "idisk.mac.com" wants user name and password.
    1. Why is it asking for this?
    2. every ID and Password I put in, it tells me is incorrect? Ahhhhhhhh What does it want from me?
Please help - I've waisted so much time on this (since last week).
The website name is www.theplazarealty.com is you want to take a look.
    Thank you

This relates to a problem I can't find in the iWeb manual. Where is my iWeb site actually published to, so I can accurately update it using FTP software, and which method to use for publishing it to domain names?
I have created two websites for two different purposes each with a personal domain (one hosted, the other with webforwarding), and through ignorance have done all three options Publish to MobileMe / Publish All to MobileMe / and Publish to a folder (my home computer user Sites folder). As a result I have three Sites folders each containing both 'mysites'- Computer/user/Sites/sitename, or iDisk/user/Sites/sitename, or iDisk/user/Web/Sites/sitename - all different sizes, worryingly, leaving me unclear which is doing what. What is the diff between Publish All to MMe and Publish to MMe - they both seem to entail both sites totally republishing even if only one page has changed. Each time, of course, it takes several minutes or more to clear through the publishing process, and then some 20-30mins more to synchronise with FTP before I find out whether I've only used the duff old version after all. What is the difference between the three Sites destination folders? Can the difference be used productively? Should I, eg, ensure my sites exist both on my computer and iDisk as backup?
Further confusing factor is that when I log into MMe and look at my folders icon on my iDisk, which are Sites and Web/Sites, the contents of the two 'mysites' folders listed under both areas are different from the SITES/iWeb display listed below them, which seems to be a truncated sort of merger of the 'mysites' contents without their separation into two. Is that iWeb item under SITES on the folders page listing a fourth set of the contents,or what?
Now to synchronising/updating: which Sites folder to use to synchronise the websites with. Can I get updating in sync with republishing? My domain host UKcentric does not provide the CNAME options you have all talked about and they are unobtainable on my hosted domain page. I sent him the web.me.com message as described in the iWeb Personal Domain instrux, but he has persistently instructed me to use FTP software to upload and update the sites. He is not Mac-friendly, he admits. I have now used three programs, ClassicFTP, FileZilla and Cyberduck, all of which seem to be rather different and none of them has told me the sync has completed (the connection drops out, etc - it does take a long time, say 30-40mins to do, and I never know when I "resume" whether it'll pick up where it was or go back to zero start). If I am stuck with this laborious method of regular manual updating, I want to know I am using the correct Sites folder to synchronise the website with. None of this is clarified in the iWeb manual. Can anyone help?

  • Problem with iWeb after associating a personal domain name with my MobileMe

I think I did this by the book. I associated my personal domain name with my MobileMe account, then changed the CName pointer at GoDaddy to MobileMe (MM), then went back to MM and hit 'Done'. iWeb now lists my MM account as 'My account name (personal domain name). It took a little while for the DNS pointer to propogate, but now I can go to a browser, type in my personal domain name, and MM delivers my iWeb website as I wanted it to, apparently from my domain, not web.me.com. The problem is, as soon as the DNS propogated, MM delivers my MM site OK, but iWeb can't find the files for it anymore. All my pages immediately went red (unpublished) when I tried to update the site, and any attempt to Publish gives me this error "iWeb couldn’t connect to MobileMe. Make sure your Internet connection works and try again." I'm cable connected to an ADSL router, and Airport connected to a cable router, and neither service has dropped out. I've rebooted, and retried, and the website is up under my own domain, so GoDaddy and MM both got it right. What did I do wrong? Thanks, someone... anyone?

This is now sort of resolved, but not very satisfactorily. One of the trainers at my local Appple Store found an old support issue in the archives going back to 2008, which blamed security settings for update problems. Coincidental with associating MobileMe with my personal domain, I had checked the privacy box and added an ID and PW to the site. That was the problem, not the personal domain, that was preventing iWeb from finding my MM account. Uncheck that box and my site happily updates. Of course, now I have a site that I cannot make private. In this case, not a show-stopper, but disappointing. I have reported it as a bug in the latest version of iWeb. Thanks for your help.

  • Anyone have a problem submitting podcast to a personal domain with iWeb 08?

I created a new website with several podcasts and published fine to a personal domain. Works great. When I try to submit the podcasts to iTunes through iWeb I get the following error message:
"We had difficulty reading this feed. Bad http result code:401"
Anyone else get this? Is the personal domain messing with the feed?
    Any help appreciated.

Well... I have mine from godaddy...
In iWeb06 the redirect was a long URL... now it's shorter (or so it seems).
GoDaddy still handles the redirect - like it did before.
The change happens in the CSS scripting (HTML?) where iWeb thought it needed to send the RSS to www.threeboysproductions.com it wasn't taking in iTunes.
Forcing iWeb to rewrite the RSS script to web.mac.com/captmench.
People wanting to go to www.tbp.com still can... and see it as such. The subscribe at iTunes won't matter.
    Good luck,
    CaptM
