IWeb Phot page - Yahoo FTP problems

Hello,
I have used MS FrontPage(PC) for a long time dabling with web pages. I recently bought a Mac for the purpose of using iWEB for the simplicity of building my site wich is 90%photo based site.
I have hosting with Yahoo. When iWeb creates the site and adds your photo pages, the folder it creates has spaces in the name( Library 2 ). The Yahoo server will not except these. Is there a way to dictate/change how iWeb creates folder/file names? ie: names with no spaces?
Having said all that, if I do find a way to get past that; I have read other threads that say that MS Inet Explorer users have trouble seeing site built with iWeb. Although biulding this site is "oh so easy", I feel as I may have shot my self in the foot on this. HELP !!!!

Many FTP servers restrict any punctuation and illegal characters.
Instead of Jane's Dog you should use janes_dog as the file or folder name.
Use underscores (_) or hyphens instead of spaces. This helps separate the words making reading easier and is allowed by FTP servers.
No spaces. No symbols. Nothing in front of the first letter of a file or folder. No punctuation.

  • Shadowbox problem in Default iWeb Photos Page

    Hi Guys,
Ive been using shadowbox to create a pop up menu when the user clicks on the login button of my website.
http://www.sotonpcp.org then click the Login button at the top.
    To do this I have:
    1. Created a link to the desired page with iWeb
    2. Published site to a folder
    3. Used search and replace to add the shadow box code just before the </head> command
    4. Used search and replace to add the shadow box reference to all links containing the Login reference
I have referenced the root directory for the shadowbox file reference so that the menu will work on all levels of the directory. (e.g. Within iWeb blog articles)
However, the problem I am having is that when i load my iWeb photo gallery, none of the albums are displayed. The shadowbox works fine, but renders my gallery page useless.
If I delete the shadowbox folder from my root directory then it works again. Re-upload it and it breaks again.
Any ideas on why this might be, and if so how do I fix it?
    Best Regards,
    Mike

I was thinking the same thing. I guess if it's working on your iPad and my iMac it's got something to do with with the iPhone 4. Although, I'm not ruling out the idea of iWeb not being iOS 4 friendly. You'd think Apple would optimize their iWeb sites for mobile devices, because this happens whether it's on WiFi or 3G. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • IWeb movie pages, when published -- no movies

my iWeb movie pages, when published, came up lame, no movies, only areas where the movies should have been, all with faint Q's with question marks inside them
LONG STORY SHORT, MAKE SURE YOUR MOVIES (as well as being located in your MAC HD and its proper MOVIE sidebar, that you CUT AND PASTE all your MEDIA YOU'RE USING IN YOUR iWeb SITE,
CUT AND PASTE PHOTOS, MOVIES in dupe form right into your desktop where you've published your iWEB site folder.......that way, any browser, a .mac or outside web host, can locate your media better so that you don't get GHOST MEDIA PUBLISHING LIKE I DID...hopefully this will help both of us
ALSO, in any iWeb website (named SITE in your desktop, or iDisc, or whatever or wherever you publish it, or even if you can find where on earth on your HD it is published, remember, if you have any MEDIA at all, NOTE IN MY CASE MEDIA MEANS MOVIES (not photos, so I'm not speaking to the photo blogs people, only iWeb MOVIE folks) anyway, all the compressed poetry video clips are right there, in a separate folder called MEDIA, that is every iWeb site, when published to .mac or a folder, which contains movies in .mp4 format or .mov format, all these will appear right in your site's MEDIA FOLDER....
this is important as a concept....
also, if you're using an outside web host like me (so that all my movies will LOAD QUICKLY), don't forget when FTP'ing (file transfer protocol'ing) your iWeb changes to your web host from your original MAC HD folder....remember to also send to the FTP/outside web host your MEDIA folder inside your SITE
(which i only realized a couple hours ago, and which totally was a revelation, so i'm passing it along to you guys)....
if you'd like to know exactly what i do here in nyc, i video the poetry scene, now for 20 years, and create educational poetry DVDs.... and my website is today's equivalant of operating a virtual business.....
....oh-oh, since I video poetry in NYC and go direct into a standalone DVD recorder to make single tracks of each poem...and then through Popcorn's mp4 program, I can make a movie file
then..through QuickTime Pro's streaming compression system, reduce that file size to under 5 MBs,
well, after lots of headaches, i am able to have 200 streaming video clips on an iWeb site, which apple itself said was impossible, that iWeb was only geared for less ambitious projects
okay, so that is cool..until yesterday, when i began the whole process again with completely new poetry video clips....
first, the iWeb pages were designed correctly...that took time....then i published the new pages to .mac, and only some of the movies showed up on the published pages, some had a big bright Q (which means the browser identifies the movie and will within 20 seconds load that movie), but what wracked my brain all day and night yesterday, why were there areas where the browser only showed the faint Q/Question mark inside (meaning the browser cannot find the movie)
    so what the.....!
also i'm going from an iWed Folder to an FTP so I can use an outside web host and bypass THE MUCH SLOWER .mac browser (too slow when using movie clips for visitor to your site having to wait valuable seconds for **** movie to appear...with outside web host process almost immediate)
    .....any similar experiences?

I am having the same problem.
Now I am using iWeb 2.03. So when I uploaded the site to my server I see the Media folder you were talking about, and the videos are there. But when I go to the website I still get the faint Q with the question mark.
    Here is my site. http://mnorland.dadeschools.net
The videos are supposed to be in the Athletics page, then go to football highlights.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • IWeb's built in ftp client won't upload new files

iWeb's built in ftp client is mad at me, refusing to upload new files. No doubt because last Sunday I asked GoDaddy to change my domain name (same site, name changed). They did. Immediately nothing would upload. GoDaddy said "Well some FTPs are picky." Problems continued so I said OK, please change the domain name back to its previous name, and all would be put right again. I thought.
No so. iWeb's ftp client seems still offended for having been disturbed. I make a change. Save. Click Publish Site Changes. Get the window saying Content Rights. Click Continue. The blue line scrolls nicely, "Publishing will continue in the background" shows, then **"Your site has been published"**...
...but no changes or files have been uploaded. The old page is the same.
Looks like I permanently po'd iWeb’s ftp. Should I give up and rebuild my site in a new folder? Try Fetch?
I shouldn't have done that stupid thing last Sunday. Live and learn.
    Help?

The root folder on the server is the top level one that you upload your files to.
You publish your website files to a local folder on your Mac. This produces an index.html file and a folder with the same name as your site in iWeb.
An FTP application transfers the files on your Mac to the root folder on the server using File Transfer Protocol.
Unlike Cyberduck, most shareware FTP applications will show both the files on your Mac and those on the server in the same window so its just a question of browsing to the folder containing your website files on your Mac and dragging them across to the icon of the root folder on your server. The application will take care of the rest.
The process really is just about as simple as dragging files from one folder on your Mac to another as long as you have the FTP application set up correctly.

  • Internet Explorer 7 - Trouble loading iWeb 08 Pages

Is anyone else having trouble with iWeb 08 pages not loading properly when viewed in Internet Explorer 7?
Everything loads fine on a Mac (Firefox 2.0) and even on a PC using Firefox but when viewing the site from IE7 it seems like pages containing photos (ie photo pages and blog entries) are having trouble loading completely. The images never appear or some images appear or some thumbnails fail to appear in the new photo gallery page.
Solutions? Work arounds? Or is this just a bug that needs to be repaired in an upgrade?
I love the Mac but the new iWeb and iPhoto seem a little glitchy out of the box.

    mtd,
I tested your site on my PC with IE 7. No problems. In fact I tested load times for both Safari (Mac) and IE (PC) and they were almost identical. I compared screens side by side and they looked the same. Some of you may not have updated versions of IE. Additionally the IE browser settings can be a bit tricky. You know, it's MS so troubleshooting is a given! One suggestion is to delete all the cookies currently running in IE 7 and give it another viewing.
I have noticed that some themes slow down both browsers. It's a matter of complexity of the theme.

  • Could an iWeb blog page be modified to...

...parse wordpress entries so that they appear "iWeb'sh" even though being created and maintained in Wordpress?

I'm having similar problems with the automatic RSS Feed link that the iWeb blog page uses.
I also figured I could create my own custom RSS icon/link for the page, but that still doesn't resolve the issue for the RSS Feed link that is automatically generated by the Firefox or Safari browsers I'm online with a MobileMe Support rep now (crossed fingers)

  • I have just uploaded my iWeb site to a FTP host and most of the site is ok however a lot of the text has gone very strange!  How can i get it to publish the same as I designed it?  Thanks in advance....

Please help!  I have just uploaded my iweb site to a FTP Host and most of the site is ok however a lot of the text has gone wrong!  Many thanks...

Maybe you could let me know which hosting service you are using so that I can add them to my list of those NOT recommended for iWeb users!
I just dealt with one today who claimed the iWeb sites were incompatible and that the first line of code should be deleted from every HTML file before upload to their server.
They didn't even offer the information that it would be a lot easier to modify the .htaccess file never mind offer to do it for a customer.
Nobody should expect to pay for service like this and the answer is to dump them and go to a company that gives you some value and support for your money. If the ones on this page don't meet your requirements for cost and service...

... search this forum for those recommended by other users. There's a long list of them.

  • Iweb Cutting Page Off at bottom

I'm working on a website in iWeb. I created the first page without any problems, however on the second page I am working on, iWeb is cutting the bottom portion of the page off. I copied and pasted 3 icons from the initial page, to the second page on the right hand side vertically and only 2 of the 3 are visible.
If I copy and paste my hit counter html snippet from the first page, into the second page, then the page extends and everything is visible. But as soon as I remove it, it goes back to being too short. I don't want the hit counter on this page, so anyone have any ideas? I've already verified my page content width and height are the same on both pages.
    Thanks in advance,
    V

If I adjust the page like that, will that look weird or mess anything up when I actually publish it?
The only way to tell is to publish it and check. You can publish to a folder on you hard drive and check it locally before publishing to the server.

  • Iweb photo page help

I just got iweb and started playing around with it and already got stumped.
I created a welcome page and then added a photo page. My problem is that I only have 3 place holders for photos that work in the slideshow. These are also the only photos that are able to be clicked on and shown in their full size.
I can drag more photos on the page but the do not work on the slideshow. How can I get more placeholders for photos that will work in the slideshow? Also can photos that are in the placeholders become hyperlinks to other pages?
    Thanks
    Kenal0

Make sure that when you add photos to the page, that they are going in the actual album placeholder. The images should dynamically move around if you are adding them in the correct spot.

  • IPhoto Album updating iWeb Album page

OK .. I'm lost! I created an iWeb Album page and a new matching iPhoto album to put the photos in. Now I've added new photos to the iPhoto album and they don't show up in iWeb. There is a lot of work on the iWeb page with a lot of descriptions etc and I don't want to have to delete the page and drag in the new updated album. What am I missing? How to I sync any newly added pictures in the iPhoto album with the iWeb album?
    Thanks...

The iWeb pages don't automatically update like iPhoto Web Galleries do. You will have to add the new photos to the iWeb photo page and republish that page.
If you were using a iPhoto Web Gallery in an iWeb page then all you would have to do is click on the publish button in iPhoto and the gallery would be updated when accessed via iWeb.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IWeb 09, Pages 09, and Keynote 09 can't load iPhoto images in media browser

Ever since yesterday, my iWeb 09, Pages 09, and Keynote 09 have been experiencing problems loading iPhoto 09 images in the media browser. I have no problems loading my audio files, movie files, and widgets, but when it comes to iPhoto picture files, the system just hangs. Luckily, it doesn't crash; it just says "Loading iPhoto images" forever.
I'm guessing that the problem is with iPhoto 09, because the media browser has no problems loading my Aperture picture files.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get iWeb, Pages, and Keynote to load my iPhoto pics in the media browser?
    Thanks!

    1. Quit iPhoto.
    2. Go to your Pictures Folder (or where ever you have your Library) and find the iPhoto Library there (Your Donor Library).
    3. Right Click on it, and from the resulting menu select ‘Show Package Contents’. A Finder window will open and the Library will be exposed.
    4. Find the following files
    AlbumData.xml
    AlbumData2.xml
and move them to the desktop.
    5. Close up the Library and restart iPhoto. This will force iPhoto to rebuild those files which are key to sharing.
Then restart the other apps and see does that help.
By the way: where is your Library? On the Start Up Disk? On an external?
    Regards

  • OT: FTP problems with DW? Mention the Dreamweaver version

    Hi all,
I request all of you to post the version of Dreamweaver when you post queries on FTP related issues. There were a number of bug fixes made in the 12.0.3 and 12.2 update, and it would be of value for the product team to know whether these fixes have helped resolve the problem, and any pending issues.
For users that have made it to these updates, use this post as a sounding board for problems you are still facing with FTP. Having these posts in one place will ensure that we have one link to capture this information.
Moderators and experts: Please request users for the version of DW when they post a query on FTP related issues.
    Thanks,

What firewall do you use? I would sooner think a setting on a
    firewall got
changed somehow. I have had this happen to me from time to

    I haven't changed anything myself.

  • Iweb photo page and pay pal buttons

could someone tell me how to alter or change java so pay pal buttons go away when someone clicks on picture to enlarge or goes to slide show? cyclosaurus gave to example web pages that it can be done, but no explanation on how to do it.
Thanks , wish I was smarter. Tom

    Hi!
I had this issue about a month ago, so scheduled an Apple One-to-One session, which easily solved the problem. You cannot use the iWeb "Photo" page template if you want to add a Paypal button. As much a pain as it is, you must use the iWeb "Blank" page template.

  • Printing iWeb-created pages on PC's

I recently created a website for my husband, using iWeb. I encountered no problems in creating or publishing the site. I have printed the entire site on my iMac from the Internet using Safari. Pages have printed just as they appear on the net and as I created them. Several different friends that have PC's have tried printing some of the pages. The pages appeared normal on the screen, but the printouts were incomplete. Only the first sheet printed, and in one case that sheet had a menu with slanted print, and in another case the entire page had slanted print. It was unreadable. I don't see what I can do to fix this. Is it a compatibility problem? Can my friends do anything to their print settings to correct the problem? Should I send this question to a different forum?
    Thanks --

The reason this is happening is related to how iWeb pages are rendered. Not everything is in the same HTML file. In fact, the style information which is probably responsible for your problem, is located in a separate .css file. I don't think this information is available to the printer when you print the page. Frankly, I am impressed that you are able to get adequate printouts from Safari even!
But as long as you are printing okay from Safari, you could print to a PDF file and then have a link to this PDF on your pages for people who want to print them. Kind of a hassle, I know. This would be the easiest way around the problem, though.
Another way of doing this would be to relocate the CSS information back into the main page HTML files. This requires editing of your pages. Here's a thread from Michael Wong who has done this for some of his pages...
