IWeb Photo Comments

I'm new to the .mac iWeb web hosting and am confused by the comment option. I'm hoping that one of you can provide me some guidance.
I have allowed comments for my photos, but how do I know when one is posted? What does the "Check for new comments" option really do? I know I have a comment to one of my photos as I can see it on the web but not on the copy in iWeb.
Blog comments do download to the copy in iWeb, though, but unless I knew that one existed, I would not know that any exists.
Any guidance that you could provide on this would be appreciated. Thanks!
Robert

  • I'd like to copy my iWeb photos & comments and put them into a Photo Book

Instead of building a Photo Book from scratch in iPhoto, I'd like to copy several photo pages with comments from iWeb and transfer them into a Photo Book. I tried to copy/paste and this doesn't work - the comments do not get captured. Has anyone done this? Thanks.

Command-Shift-4 will change your mouse into cross-hairs. Position at the upper left corner and drag to the right and down. When you have things lined up let go of the mouse and a new image file will be placed on your Desktop.
This image file will probably not be high enough resolution to use in a printed Book, however. They require 300 dpi in most cases.
To copy text from a Web page hold down the mouse as you drag across it and "Copy". "Paste" into any text editor to save the clippings.
You can also paste text into most image editing apps like GraphicConverter.

  • How to get iPhoto '08 to export comments as part of iWeb photo page?

I've got an event in iPhoto '08, and want to export it as a photo page (darkroom template). It exports all the photos and titles, but not the comments from iPhoto. I cannot figure out how to make it export the comment. Where is the setting for this?
It's very easy in iPhoto to export as a regular html with the comments, but somehow not to iWeb.

    Marguerite:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There's an Applescript that will take your comments and put them in the title field in iPhoto. Then when you create the photo page in iWeb the comments will be in the title field and will be displayed. Once the iWeb page is created you can go back in iWeb and use the Photos->Batch Change->Title to File Name menu option and get the old title back.
Here's where you get the Applescript. Be sure to read the comments to see where the one error, regarding the Å character that is in the script: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070822121100394&query=applescript %2Btitle
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IWeb Photo's?

Ok, so im looking at starting a Photography buisness, and have already pretty much setup my website on IWeb. I know using the "Inspector" i can go to photo's and Turn Photosharing (Small/Medium/Large/Orginal/None) to none. but does that stop people from "Right-Clicking" (Copy and Paste) My pictures?
I have all my pictures watermarked and all of them have my name save in the metadata. i just want to make sure at all possible no one can steal my pictures.
Anyone that can inlighten me on the issue. please do. i just want to be Tripple sure, no one can steal my stuff.
And i also plan to post my website using mobile me. Using IWeb 3.04 (I think) not sure what year that it is.
    Thank You

If you use iWeb and create a photo page with your photos you can set the Photo Download Size to None using the Inspector/Photos/Photos pane so there will be no downloading of any files from the site.
Code can be added to an HTML shippet on the page to prevent right-clicking to download the visible image. HOWEVER, there's no way to prevent someone from taking a screenshot of the image (which would be the same size as the right-click method).
Watermarking will prevent use of the photos without knowing whose photo it is.  A determined person can remove the watermark with some effort.  But to do that on a screenshot version of the photo would seem a lot of work for the usable size of the file that one could obtain.
Lastly, If you don't have a MMe account you won't be able to host your site there.  MMe is being discontinued on June 30,2012, and new accounts are not being taken.
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ RSS Feed Widget
All of these feature that will be lost when MMe no longer exists can be replaced with 3rd party replacements.  In addition there will be a problem with the popup slideshow for the photos page.  Once the MMe servers are offline the forward, pause, play and back buttons will not display:
    They should look like this:
However, this tutorial describes how you can modify the iWeb applicaiton so that the buttons will display correctly after the MMe servers are gone: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued
Since you site is for business you should choose a 3rd party host like HostExcellence.com, GoDaddy.com, etc. They offer unlimited storage space and bandwidth, password protection with multiple usernames and passwords of single files or folders and email addresses with aliass.  Some offer a free domain name with the package.

  • IWeb - Photo Upload

    Hi,
I have an iWeb site set up and have photo albums created....what I want to know is if its possible for my friends to upload pictures to an existing photo album? Is there any way to allow the public access to create and upload photos.....thanks for your help

    Hi sundeepoad!
I perused the iWeb online "Help" and did not find any info on uploading files to your iWeb photo album page (though apparently a viewer can leave comments).
However, you can - if you use MobileMe - place your MobileMe album thumbnails on an iWeb page which link to a particular MobileMe album. On the MobileMe Album page you can allow uploading by others. I do not believe they can create their own albums on your MobileMe site, just add to an existing one(s).

  • Want to show image description in an iweb photo gallery

Is there a way to get the description data field to display for each photo when you make a gallery (or album page)? We took hours to add nice desctiptions for each photo and can't get them to show in the iweb/iphoto gallery.
I'm using 'publish to folder' so that I can host the gallery on my own website.
Also, each photo has the 'title' field showing, not even the file name I've given each photo. So the file name doesn't show either. Is there a way to show the file name?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers.

    bjenrol:
Where are these descriptions entered? If you used the Description field in iPhoto you can use this Applescript to move the descriptions to the title field which will display in the iWeb photo page. Be sure to remove the Å from the script before saving. It's an error. When you're done importing to iWeb you can use the Photos->Batch Change->Title to File Name to get the original file names back in that field.

  • IWeb photo gallery does not work in IE

Does anyone know why iWeb photo gallery does not work in Internet Explorer but does work in Safari, Chrome & Firefox?

What kind of a response are you looking for with a post like that, seriously? Change this or that in your unprovided code? Use this or that gallery, which may be the gallery you're already using. We don't know because you haven't mention specifics, provided any code, or any other relevant information to produce a helpful response. All you've said is you click a link and it's white. Kudos.
We're not mind readers and no one is looking over your shoulder watching what you're doing. Get it together... and when you do, post a link so we can see what you're talking about. jeez.

  • IWeb photo gallery comparison with PicasaWeb

How iWeb Photo Galleries are compared to say, PicasaWeb Albums ? or even PBase or Shutterfly ?
In terms of attractive visual presentation?
    Worth investing $100?
    Thanks!

You are missing a number of files from your website.  You can see which are missing by bringing up the Activity window (Command+Option+A) while viewing the Places page in Safari and looking at the list of files in the window.
How are you publishing the site?  With iWeb?  If so then try using the File ➙ Publish Entire Site menu option to see if that will force those missing files to be uploaded.
If that doesn't work you can publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and use a 3rd party FTP client, like the free  Cyberduck, to upload the site files. If you have to continue to use Cyberduck this tutorial may help: #2 - Uploading Only Those Newly Published or Edited Files When Using a 3rd Party FTP Client.

  • Iweb photo gallery question

I have created an Iweb photo gallery on my website, and I wish to add links to each individual photo so that when a person clicks for the full view of the photo a link will appear somewhere on the page. I want each link to be specific to each photo. I have tried adding captions and making them links, but they don't work, they're un-clickable. Is there any possible way to do this in Iweb?

There are a number of ways you could add ecommerce to your site. I'm not familiar with the option but if you do a search for ecommerce in this forum you'll get several topics on the subject. Roddy has some very good information at this http://www.musicformusicians.com site.

  • Iweb Photo Album vs MobileMe Gallery or...

... should I look for flickr or something?
Hi guys new mac user in every sense...the wife got her Macbook on December and I couldn't resist and got my mine three days ago.
Guys...I'm creating a website with iweb and although right now does not have a lot of pics, I know it will...so please guys:
    1. If I want the visitors to have a fast access (loading) to the albums...which is the best option? iweb Photo Album or the MobileMe Gallery widget?
I know that at the end all the pics will be loaded on/from the MobileMe server, but just wanted to check if one have proved being faster than the other.
    2. The other thing I was concern about was of course space..that's why I though about putting all the pics on flickr, photobucket...and then embed an album on iWeb...can I do that?
thanks guys and please if this has already been discussed please post a link...I did the search and nothing came up.

hey guys...I found this http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10742043&#10742043 Aztian said that his photos load faster using iWeb Photo Albums...it would be nice to have more info...thanks!

  • Need help upgrading from iPhoto 2... keep photo comments?

I currently have iPhoto 2 that originally came with my eMac. I have recently upgraded the operating system to the 10.4.11. I have tons of photos in iPhoto 2. Ultimately, this has slowed down the response time when working in iPhoto.
I am trying to figure out how the comments that I write for each photo stays with the photo after I back it up to my external hard drive, iBook? Or, how can I keep the comments to the photo when I email the photos?
After doing some research, it looks like I need to upgrade to a current iPhoto to be able to do this. Is this correct? Will a current iPhoto version keep the comments with that photo when saved or sent elsewhere? What is the best way to upgrade and how do I go about doing this?
Is there anyway to backup the photos on disc with the comments included? Or, can the comments be printed out to a thumbnail size of each photo for record keeping?
I hope you can HELP with this "photo comments" dilemma... Thanks.

Did you try repairing permissions yet? Just because you have a fresh install of Mac OS X doesn't mean everything is as it should be. And you may not know that the mail format changed from 10.4 to 10.5, so you should try rebuilding your Mail index like this:
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to ~/Library/Mail and delete the Envelope Index file(s).
    3. Restart Mail, wait for it to import your existing messages, then check to see if you have access to your older mail from 10.4.

  • IWeb Photo Sharing problems

We have a iWeb photo page where visitors were able to click on a picture and save it on their own computer with it being a normal file size. Now, it seems when you try to save a picture it is shows up as "transparent" and only allows you to choose .gif or .bmp as the file extension.
I am not sure what changed....any thoughts??!!

...same question here: some of the photos on my site (www.christelvanmeeuwen.eu - still under the old iWeb for now) are from families, and, though they've let me use them for my site, should not simply be available for download, unless with explicit permission. On the other hand, I want to make some other photos available for free download, e.g. is someone wants to use them on his site or so (the Creative Commons philosophy).
So it would be quite convenient to be able to switch the download possibility on or off.
(I know that its virtually always possible to download an image on a site, one could always use a image grabber or so - but having the download button always there of course doesn't help...)
    Any hint would be helpful,
    Kind regards,
    Christel

  • IWeb Photo galleries not appearing in latest Firefox

Anyone else notice that the latest Firefox won't show the iweb photo galleries?
They do show up in IE and safari, but not firefox. I've tested on all 3 browsers on both Mac and PC (well, not IE for mac, cause it doesn't exist anymore)
here is the url to the photo page. http://www.pgbond.com/Site/Concert_Photos.html
if you have multiple browsers, give it a try and let me know.

    Phil,
I had a similar problem last week - even Safari was not working with the Gallery for a while. Then Safari started working, but not Firefox. Old Toad had gone through different things with me to no avail. I got onto Apple live Chat and someone talked me through clearing the cache and cookies. And that got the gallery working. But a couple of days later, the Firefox stopped working again - but back working within a few hours. I tried your page and the message said that the pages could not be found. When mine was down, I was getting a message saying that my browser did not support this gallery, but the message had a copyright of 2007 and it referred to an old Mac OS (Tiger) and old Firefox. So it looked like that was an old message. Touch wood - Firefox has been working now for several days. So try clearing the cache and see if that helps.

  • Web gallery use vs iWeb photo page

I really like the quick layout of the gallery. Would I be saving more iDisk space by using the Aperture Web gallery vs iWeb photo pages?? My guess is yes because I can control the size in page/detail and more when I save to my .mac. The only feature I would lose is the flow of navigation with the other iWeb pages.
My thought was to create a main photo page with iWeb and have a small snapshot to hyperlink to the homepage.mac gallery created with Aperture. This allows flexibility in adding/removing the galleries if space becomes an issue. I dont have much in iWeb so far and it takes a really long time to load as it is. I'd hate to bog down more with photo galleries.

    hello, me100finn
quote: "The only feature I would lose is the flow of navigation with the other iWeb pages."
You can always manually make a link to the other web pages which is what I do.
Just a few more added features to Aperture Web Gallery and Web Journal like an advance option feature to view & change the CSS or source code (without going to GoLive or Dreamweaver) or something along the lines of "would you like to add a link to another url?" would be tasty.
quote: "My thought was to create a main photo page with iWeb and have a small snapshot to hyperlink to the homepage.mac gallery created with Aperture."
Yup, my thoughts too. Maybe version 2 (i hope). I'm making the site first in Aperture (the heavy lifting) and then making minor additions and tweaks in GoLive.
To do this add the image, select it after the export in a wysiwyg html editor and point it to the proper linked url.

  • Shadowbox problem in Default iWeb Photos Page

    Hi Guys,
Ive been using shadowbox to create a pop up menu when the user clicks on the login button of my website.
http://www.sotonpcp.org then click the Login button at the top.
    To do this I have:
    1. Created a link to the desired page with iWeb
    2. Published site to a folder
    3. Used search and replace to add the shadow box code just before the </head> command
    4. Used search and replace to add the shadow box reference to all links containing the Login reference
I have referenced the root directory for the shadowbox file reference so that the menu will work on all levels of the directory. (e.g. Within iWeb blog articles)
However, the problem I am having is that when i load my iWeb photo gallery, none of the albums are displayed. The shadowbox works fine, but renders my gallery page useless.
If I delete the shadowbox folder from my root directory then it works again. Re-upload it and it breaks again.
Any ideas on why this might be, and if so how do I fix it?
    Best Regards,
    Mike

I was thinking the same thing. I guess if it's working on your iPad and my iMac it's got something to do with with the iPhone 4. Although, I'm not ruling out the idea of iWeb not being iOS 4 friendly. You'd think Apple would optimize their iWeb sites for mobile devices, because this happens whether it's on WiFi or 3G. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
