IWeb photo sizing

I tried to get some specifics from the iWeb help menu but did not find the info. I will be publishing my business site shortly and will have at least one page with slide show - probably 15 photographs. What are the photo dimensions, file size, and file type that I should use for top quality and good user performance regarding download time??

The iWeb software will automatically "resize" your images at upload. The target they use is 800X600 and compressed to under 100 KB's.
You can also use the new PhotoCasting feature if you want to show off high quality full size image formats.
Since you don't get any control over this compression and resizing a lot of us users resize and compress prior to page creation using the size and compression level to meet their targets.
Web safe (browser display) include JPEG (.jpg), PNG (Portable Network Graphic format .png), GIF (.gif a nearly obsolete 256 color image format) and PSD (Photoshop Document .psd).
PND and PSD are nearly always ten (or more) times larger than JPEG. Your camera probably already uses the JPEG format.

  • Photo sizing for optimum use of space and quality viewing and downloading

    Greetings!
I am curious about photo sizing in iWeb.
I understand that if I drag a photo into a media placeholder (such as the blog pages), that the photo is automatically re-sized for that drop zone. (Is that correct?)
If I drag a picture to a spot on a blank page, and then drag corners to make the picture appear the size I want it to be, is the picture condensed to the necessary size digitally so that download and storage is appropriate?
Any knowledge shared will be so appreciated! My site will eventually be pretty bulky, so I need to start this out right, and not have 5 MB pictures on there if I only need KB pictures.

Silly me. I answered my own question--I tried it, and then right clicked on the pictures from the browser, and it resized my 5 MB pictures down to 35 KB and they look great.
    How freakin' easy!
    I love this mac!

  • Send to iWeb - Photo Resolution

When I send photos to iWeb to make a Web Album, I've found that the software lower the photo's resolution to 800*600.
What can I do to increase the resolution to something like 1600*1200 (at least it's bigger).
    Thanks alot!

    2. Create photo page in iWeb and just drag and drop converted photos from the desktop into the page.
When you drag a full sized image file into an iWeb photo page it automatically gets resized down to an 800 pixel x 600 pixel x 72 dpi resolution that is a very good quality level and small file size. Unless you want a different pixel dimension, it's extra work to convert prior to using in an iWeb photo page.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Want to show image description in an iweb photo gallery

Is there a way to get the description data field to display for each photo when you make a gallery (or album page)? We took hours to add nice desctiptions for each photo and can't get them to show in the iweb/iphoto gallery.
I'm using 'publish to folder' so that I can host the gallery on my own website.
Also, each photo has the 'title' field showing, not even the file name I've given each photo. So the file name doesn't show either. Is there a way to show the file name?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers.

    bjenrol:
Where are these descriptions entered? If you used the Description field in iPhoto you can use this Applescript to move the descriptions to the title field which will display in the iWeb photo page. Be sure to remove the Å from the script before saving. It's an error. When you're done importing to iWeb you can use the Photos->Batch Change->Title to File Name to get the original file names back in that field.

  • IWeb photo gallery does not work in IE

Does anyone know why iWeb photo gallery does not work in Internet Explorer but does work in Safari, Chrome & Firefox?

What kind of a response are you looking for with a post like that, seriously? Change this or that in your unprovided code? Use this or that gallery, which may be the gallery you're already using. We don't know because you haven't mention specifics, provided any code, or any other relevant information to produce a helpful response. All you've said is you click a link and it's white. Kudos.
We're not mind readers and no one is looking over your shoulder watching what you're doing. Get it together... and when you do, post a link so we can see what you're talking about. jeez.

  • IWeb photo gallery comparison with PicasaWeb

How iWeb Photo Galleries are compared to say, PicasaWeb Albums ? or even PBase or Shutterfly ?
In terms of attractive visual presentation?
    Worth investing $100?
    Thanks!

You are missing a number of files from your website.  You can see which are missing by bringing up the Activity window (Command+Option+A) while viewing the Places page in Safari and looking at the list of files in the window.
How are you publishing the site?  With iWeb?  If so then try using the File ➙ Publish Entire Site menu option to see if that will force those missing files to be uploaded.
If that doesn't work you can publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and use a 3rd party FTP client, like the free  Cyberduck, to upload the site files. If you have to continue to use Cyberduck this tutorial may help: #2 - Uploading Only Those Newly Published or Edited Files When Using a 3rd Party FTP Client.

  • Iweb photo gallery question

I have created an Iweb photo gallery on my website, and I wish to add links to each individual photo so that when a person clicks for the full view of the photo a link will appear somewhere on the page. I want each link to be specific to each photo. I have tried adding captions and making them links, but they don't work, they're un-clickable. Is there any possible way to do this in Iweb?

There are a number of ways you could add ecommerce to your site. I'm not familiar with the option but if you do a search for ecommerce in this forum you'll get several topics on the subject. Roddy has some very good information at this http://www.musicformusicians.com site.

  • Iweb Photo Album vs MobileMe Gallery or...

... should I look for flickr or something?
Hi guys new mac user in every sense...the wife got her Macbook on December and I couldn't resist and got my mine three days ago.
Guys...I'm creating a website with iweb and although right now does not have a lot of pics, I know it will...so please guys:
    1. If I want the visitors to have a fast access (loading) to the albums...which is the best option? iweb Photo Album or the MobileMe Gallery widget?
I know that at the end all the pics will be loaded on/from the MobileMe server, but just wanted to check if one have proved being faster than the other.
    2. The other thing I was concern about was of course space..that's why I though about putting all the pics on flickr, photobucket...and then embed an album on iWeb...can I do that?
thanks guys and please if this has already been discussed please post a link...I did the search and nothing came up.

hey guys...I found this http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10742043&#10742043 Aztian said that his photos load faster using iWeb Photo Albums...it would be nice to have more info...thanks!

  • IWeb Photo Sharing problems

We have a iWeb photo page where visitors were able to click on a picture and save it on their own computer with it being a normal file size. Now, it seems when you try to save a picture it is shows up as "transparent" and only allows you to choose .gif or .bmp as the file extension.
I am not sure what changed....any thoughts??!!

...same question here: some of the photos on my site (www.christelvanmeeuwen.eu - still under the old iWeb for now) are from families, and, though they've let me use them for my site, should not simply be available for download, unless with explicit permission. On the other hand, I want to make some other photos available for free download, e.g. is someone wants to use them on his site or so (the Creative Commons philosophy).
So it would be quite convenient to be able to switch the download possibility on or off.
(I know that its virtually always possible to download an image on a site, one could always use a image grabber or so - but having the download button always there of course doesn't help...)
    Any hint would be helpful,
    Kind regards,
    Christel

  • IWeb Photo galleries not appearing in latest Firefox

Anyone else notice that the latest Firefox won't show the iweb photo galleries?
They do show up in IE and safari, but not firefox. I've tested on all 3 browsers on both Mac and PC (well, not IE for mac, cause it doesn't exist anymore)
here is the url to the photo page. http://www.pgbond.com/Site/Concert_Photos.html
if you have multiple browsers, give it a try and let me know.

    Phil,
I had a similar problem last week - even Safari was not working with the Gallery for a while. Then Safari started working, but not Firefox. Old Toad had gone through different things with me to no avail. I got onto Apple live Chat and someone talked me through clearing the cache and cookies. And that got the gallery working. But a couple of days later, the Firefox stopped working again - but back working within a few hours. I tried your page and the message said that the pages could not be found. When mine was down, I was getting a message saying that my browser did not support this gallery, but the message had a copyright of 2007 and it referred to an old Mac OS (Tiger) and old Firefox. So it looked like that was an old message. Touch wood - Firefox has been working now for several days. So try clearing the cache and see if that helps.

  • Web gallery use vs iWeb photo page

I really like the quick layout of the gallery. Would I be saving more iDisk space by using the Aperture Web gallery vs iWeb photo pages?? My guess is yes because I can control the size in page/detail and more when I save to my .mac. The only feature I would lose is the flow of navigation with the other iWeb pages.
My thought was to create a main photo page with iWeb and have a small snapshot to hyperlink to the homepage.mac gallery created with Aperture. This allows flexibility in adding/removing the galleries if space becomes an issue. I dont have much in iWeb so far and it takes a really long time to load as it is. I'd hate to bog down more with photo galleries.

    hello, me100finn
quote: "The only feature I would lose is the flow of navigation with the other iWeb pages."
You can always manually make a link to the other web pages which is what I do.
Just a few more added features to Aperture Web Gallery and Web Journal like an advance option feature to view & change the CSS or source code (without going to GoLive or Dreamweaver) or something along the lines of "would you like to add a link to another url?" would be tasty.
quote: "My thought was to create a main photo page with iWeb and have a small snapshot to hyperlink to the homepage.mac gallery created with Aperture."
Yup, my thoughts too. Maybe version 2 (i hope). I'm making the site first in Aperture (the heavy lifting) and then making minor additions and tweaks in GoLive.
To do this add the image, select it after the export in a wysiwyg html editor and point it to the proper linked url.

  • Shadowbox problem in Default iWeb Photos Page

    Hi Guys,
Ive been using shadowbox to create a pop up menu when the user clicks on the login button of my website.
http://www.sotonpcp.org then click the Login button at the top.
    To do this I have:
    1. Created a link to the desired page with iWeb
    2. Published site to a folder
    3. Used search and replace to add the shadow box code just before the </head> command
    4. Used search and replace to add the shadow box reference to all links containing the Login reference
I have referenced the root directory for the shadowbox file reference so that the menu will work on all levels of the directory. (e.g. Within iWeb blog articles)
However, the problem I am having is that when i load my iWeb photo gallery, none of the albums are displayed. The shadowbox works fine, but renders my gallery page useless.
If I delete the shadowbox folder from my root directory then it works again. Re-upload it and it breaks again.
Any ideas on why this might be, and if so how do I fix it?
    Best Regards,
    Mike

I was thinking the same thing. I guess if it's working on your iPad and my iMac it's got something to do with with the iPhone 4. Although, I'm not ruling out the idea of iWeb not being iOS 4 friendly. You'd think Apple would optimize their iWeb sites for mobile devices, because this happens whether it's on WiFi or 3G. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • IWeb Photo Captioning from Aperture Metadata

I'm not sure if this should be under iWeb or Aperture. I use Aperture 2.1 and iWeb '08 2.0.3. In iWeb I have albums of photos from Aperture. When using the media browser for adding Aperture photos into iWeb, the standard nomenclature is for the iWeb caption to use the Aperture 'Version Name'. Since iWeb can be set to have more than one caption line, I was wondering if there was a way to map Aperture metadata into the multiple lines of iWeb photo captions? As it is, any additional iWeb caption lines have to be added manually. Can this additional caption information be added automatically?

I'm banging my head on this too.. I prefer to use iWeb for several reasons: one is that I publish to a non-Apple webhost; and I prefer the editing capabilities of iWeb vs Aperture/iPhoto -- plus the templates are more varied.
It's hard to believe that Apple doesn't provide this extremely basic capability. I've noticed other threads on this & it doesn't seem that it's possible.

  • IWeb Photo album trick

Ok, i just found about a way to insert the photo gallery (the same one form the Photo pages) into a blog or any other kind of iWeb page. So i would like to know if anybody has tried this and if there are any bugs i should be worried, since i am going to adopt this as a standard in my blog. Please check the URL bellow to get a better idea (scroll down):
    http://www.olharobscuro.com/Main/Blu-Ray/Entries/2008/10/21The_Godfather_-_The_Coppola_Restoration%5BBlu-ray%5D.html#3
Basically, i duplicate the Photo gallery from the Photo page, then i cut it and paste it where i want.

  • Photo Sizing in Lightroom 3

When exporting from lightroom 3 I want to export the largest possible photo my camera will allow.  I am using a Sony Nex 3, 14 megapixel camera.  I am shooting in raw format.  In the photo sizing section I choose 1200 pixels, thinking this will create a large photo but when I open the file in photoshop after exporting it as a .tiff, the file is only 2"x3"  Can anyone tell me what settings I should choose to get a larger photo with good quality?

Try exporting without specifying  pixel dimensions (see image below). Set the resolution to 300 for best quality printing. Your export should be at the native resolution. My 21mp photos open in PS at about 18 x 12 inches. If I need to print lager I can adjust the resolution down to 240.
