Iweb podcast "subscribe" issue

I've checked the forums and can't find this issue addressed, sorry if I missed it.
When I go to subscribe to a podcast after uploading the website, I'm taken to itunes, then given an error message that says "the url... cannot be found on the server."
I can listen to the podcast live on the web, but cannot subscribe. I checked the domain host and they say all is good. It's probably something simple that I'm not doing in iWeb, but I can't figure it out - any solutions out there? Thanks, Ed

thanks!

  • New site created in iWeb, Podcast works, but the Subscribe button doesn't!

    Hi All,
I created a new site in iWeb at http://www.adamonearth.com be great if you could help out a little! I am very happy with the site turned out!
But I have been trying to get the Video Podcast subscription link to work for a while now, but the Podcast Subscribe button on my Video Podcast page does not work. For some reason iWeb adds in /adamonearth.com after the website domain, like this... itpc://www.adamonearth.com/adamonearth.com/Video%20Podcast/rss.xml
So if you go to my site at http://www.adamonearth.com and click onto Video Podcast the Subscribe button is on there.
iWeb won't allow me to edit it either. Be great if you know of any ideas to amend it!
Also be great if you let me know what you think of the site overall.
    Cheers.
    Adam.

    Hi Tom,
Thanks so much for all your help, I really appreciate it.
I fixed the name of the site and called it 'Holly' I now have the Video Podcast link working but one problem, when you enter the website address:
    http://www.adamonearth.com
It goes to the Index Of/ page then you need to select 'Holly' which is the folder name for it to divert to the Welcome.html page.
I have put up a directory listing for you http://www.adamonearth.com/54512.tiff
I have tried moving the Welcome.html page above the Holly folder but that then does not link to the other pages correctly.
From what I can see I have done everything right this time, as the Podcast link works in iTunes now.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks again,
    Adam.

  • Downloading iWeb podcasts without "Subscribe" button?

My "enhanced" podcast (photos & audio) in an iWeb podcast page runs fine in a QT window. But what if I don't want a "Subscribe" button on my page or my podcast published on the iTunes Store?
...How can a visitor simply download the podcast (right now) to put in iTunes on their computer and perhaps then onto an iPod?
Control-clicking on the QT window gives the option of "Save as QuickTime Movie" only if the visitor has QT Pro. But is there a way for a visitor to download/save the m4a/m4b file as a podcast from my iWeb Podcast page?
(Perhaps I'm missing something really simple here.)
    Thanks.

A workaround for non QuickTime Pro owners.
Archive the file (Finder will add .zip to its name) and then use the "Link to File" option of iWeb.
A .zip file will always download and open (expand) with a double click.
Drawback is that now two files must upload which wastes bandwidth and server space.

  • RSS Feed and  Podcast Categories Issue

    Hey everyone,
I'm having a lot of problems publishing my podcasts with iweb. I create them on Garageband and then send to iWeb where they're part of a larger site. Anyway, they were working at one stage, but now seem not to be at all.
I ran the RSS feed through fee validator and it's telling me the categories chosen are not longer valid itunes categories. I want them in video games, but there's no choice for this when I'm going through iWeb.
The issue is that I don't know how to get to the RSS feed to edit it. I only see the iWeb format, but I want the actual source code etc to go in and change that around if possible. Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks in advance
    Tracy

    Hi,
Thanks for the help, that is much appreciated. Sadly I'm still having the same issue. The two old dead feeds are still on iTunes after weeks of me asking for them to be removed and also after me putting the block tag into the rss feed. My new one still hasn't shown up even though it was updated on Saturday... it's really a nightmare.
    Can someone please please help.
    Thanks
    xx

  • If you're having Podcast hosting issues on a non-.mac site, please read:

So, last night I spent an insane amount of time trying to figure out why my podcast wasn't working on my website. I host my domain with godaddy.com and I just knew it was a hosting issue, not a iWeb or .m4a issue. Sure enough, I was on a Windows webserver and as soon as I requested to be put on a Linux server, my Podcast was playing properly on both my website and iTunes. I saw many people on the board with the same problem and I'm here to tell you, SWITCH TO A LINUX WEB SERVER! =) Later!

    http://www.nickhobart.org

i was able to change it through my control panel on my host's website. i think windows web server runs on IIS or something lame like that and linux, well, not sure what runs on that...maybe apache? anyway, thank God for being able to switch on the fly. what a nightmare.

  • Podcast / iWeb 08 update issue

I just recently got into podcasting. I have been using Garageband to create and then send to iWeb. I was using iWeb 06 until just recently. I updated to iWeb 08.
In iWeb 06, the podcast showed up in iTunes and you were able to subscribe to it. However, since updating to 08, iTunes can no longer find the podcast. It claims the rss could not be found on the server. Is this because of the update to 08? I noticed a slight change to my website name. Is this the issue?
If so, how do I correct this? Can I just resubmit my entire podcast to iTunes for approval and start all over?
    Any help is appreciated.
My podcast is located at: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=321929259

OK, I'll try to unravel this: but I should make clear that I'm running on a certain amount of guesswork here and I can't promise the solution I suggest will work. Give it a try and let me know.
I'm not familiar with iWeb 06, but I suspect that what has happened is that it used a different folder layout: when you upgraded to 08 it changed to the newer folder layout, leaving a redirect from the old address: however there isn't a redirect for the podcast feed (and even if there was it wouldn't work in iTunes) so it's effectively sabotaged you. Nice.
iTunes thinks your feed is at
    http://rss.me.com/markandjill/iWeb/SW Miniverse/Star Wars Miniverse/rss.xml
In fact is is now at
    http://web.me.com/markandjill/SWMiniverse/Star_WarsMiniverse/rss.xml
What you need to do is to persuade iTunes to change to the new feed. Please read these instructions carefully and carry them out to the letter.
Open your iDisk, and navigate to the Web/Sites/SWMiniverse/Star_WarsMiniverse folder. Look for a file called 'rss.xml' and download it to your desktop.
Drag this file to the TextEdit icon in your Dock (or in the applications folder). You will see your feed. Somewhere in the top few lines - it doesn't matter exactly where as long as it's before the first 'item' tag - add this extra line:
    <itunes:new-feed-url>http://web.me.com/markandjill/SWMiniverse/Star_WarsMiniverse/rss.xml</itunes:new-feed-url>
(be careful that you don't get a line return in the middle of this - you might get one in your browser display).
Now choose 'save as' and save this as rss.xml - TextEdit will suggest you make this .rss.xml.txt, decline this offer. Make sure the file is called rss.xml and is a plain text file.
    Now the tricky bit.
Open your iDisk and try to navigate to the Web/Sites/iWeb/SW Miniverse/Star Wars Miniverse folder. If it doesn't exist you will need to create the new folders as appropriate. Upload the rss.xml file you created there.
Now to check whether this has worked.
Go to the iTunes Store page for your podcast. Click the subscribe button and go to 'Podcasts' in the sidebar.
If it's recognized this feed you should see the episodes listed when you click the disclosure triangle. On the top line - the podcast title - at the right you will see a little 'i' button: click this and you will see the feed address - it should read
    http://rss.me.com/markandjill/iWeb/SW%20Miniverse/Star%20Wars%20Miniverse/rss.xm l
(strictly you shouldn't have spaces in file or folder names which is why they are replaced with %20).
If all this is the case you should be good to go: eventually iTunes will update to the correct feed - you should leave the feed you just uploaded there until it does, and it might take a fortnight. You can check by clicking on the 'i' button as before and seeing whether the correct feed URL is displayed.
I'm making assumptions about the way iWeb 06 behaves: if they aren't correct this may not work. If it doesn't please post back and we'll explore another avenue.

  • Subscribe to Podcast/Subscribe to rss won't work on my iweb created sight.

    Hello,
I am trying to get my podcast to sync up with itunes. I tried to make some changes to my original site, screwed it up, fixed it all but re-syncing. I have tried everything I can think both in itunes and iweb. At this point there isn't even a button where there used to be. As you can tell I am at a loss. Could someone walk me through it. I am getting really frustrated. I have mobileme. I tried going to the insert>button>subscribe to podcast button. I have tried to subscribe through itunes in the advanced>get podcast. I don't know what else to do. All the obvious solutions have been used up.

Same problems with my site. I have MobileMe also. RSS and Podcast subscription doesn't work at all.
    Thanks for all advices.

  • How come I-Tunes won't let me subscribe to my IWeb podcast?

This is what I have been trying to do. My website is hosted on a Linex server running Apache. I created a podcast using Garageband 3, then tried to figure a workaround because I have no .mac account. Tried RSS Buddy, but couldn't get the podcast to work properly. So then I sent the audio to IWeb and saved the podcast to folder and uploaded it to my website using Adobe GoLive. The podcast now plays at http://www.songsfromtheword.com/Audio/Site/Podcast/Podcast.html
Then running ITunes 6, I opened the Advanced windows and tried to "subscribe to podcast" listing the URL to the rss.xml file. When I tried to test it through ITunes, it says it can't find the .mp4a file, even after I moved it on the server to the place ITunes said it could't find it at.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I found out the problem was caused by creating a folder for the podcast exported by IWeb. When I let IWeb export it into my website folder, it worked!

  • IWeb & the infamous podcast photo issue

Would anyone know how to specify which photo serves as the iTunes podcast photo *+if you use iWeb+*? I have searched extensively and cannot find any way to set it, let alone change it. I'm guessing that iWeb just randomly selected a photo from my site as the album photo. I am now aware of the general problems with podcast photos, but want to give it a shot anyway.
Thanks to any and all who can share their advice. You rock. Yes, you.

I set my podcast photo in iTunes.

  • IWeb podcast won't play through Android (?)

I'm new to all this, so I may be overlooking something obvious. I created 2 podcasts through GarageBand and sent them to iWeb as MP3's. They play perfectly when I access my website through Safari on both my MacBook and my iTouch. I successfully subscribed to my podcast through iTunes and I successfully submitted my podcast to the iTunes Store. However, when I access my website podcast page on my Android phone, I can see all the copy and artwork, but there is no "Play" button to click. No way of making it play. Any ideas or suggestions on how to remedy this, if there is a way? Thanks.

Android doesn't play well with others if you do a google search on getting audio to play with and/or on the Android you will find a couple of solutions. People smarter than me were having some serious issues trying to get this to work.

  • Artwork related to iWeb / podcast production

I've read recent postings on problems with artwork (not) showing up in iTunes Store etc... BUT - I have a different question / issue I think. I've done three podcasts on iTunes for the last 1-2 years but using all separate softwares to record, create, upload and create RSS feeds. All have worked flawlessly. But about a week ago, after realizing how 'upgraded' iWeb has become over the last "X" months / years, I decided to utilize iWeb as my podcast publisher / RSS creator etc...
The podcasts work fine. But here;s the issue / question: When I click "submit podcast to iTunes" (while in iWeb), a box appears asking for final information etc... The artwork appeared the first time and I submitted. When I did the 2nd podcast, the artwork (all formated and sized properly according to iTunes etc...) DID NOT appear at this juncture. I submitted anyway and the podcast was approved and worked "anyway". Has anyone else had this issue and if so, am I doing something wrong? Is there a way at this point I can go in and fix, repair or submit other artwork - bearing in mind I'm doing this via iWeb and not as a stand alone RSS like I'd done previously.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sorry to hear but glad to know that I'm not the only one having problems with this issue. I only submitted a new Podcast last week, with all the same settings and Art cover as I have on all before, went on to submit saw my Art cover as it should be when you get that little drop down, then when it finally appeared on good old iTunes not only was the Art cover missing ( ended up with the Purple Podcast icon ) but I had 3 new Podcasts all with the wrong Art work, considering I only submitted 1 podcast can't quiet work out why iTunes put 3 there, oh and the feed address was wrong too when you clicked on 'website' took you to another Podcast series, good hey !!!!

  • Create hidden iWeb podcast

    Hey guys
    Ok on my website
    www.learn-2-drum.co.uk
I have a podcast page which is great and all the entry's download perfectly to my itunes slash whoever subscribes.
I want to however add a file to the podcast rss feed without having to put it on the podcast page..
Basically if you go onto the chop of the week page i have those video's on my desktop and i want to add it to my rss feed to download to people's itunes but without it being visible. i don't want to add it to the podcast (beginener zone) page and make it visible.
Anyone know how to do this?

You have to manually edit the .xml file that is used to subscribe to your podcast.
Understand that iWeb will overwrite that file when you update or add podcastpages.
Why not make a second podcast page or subscription for that purpose.
Here's how to do it :

  • Managing entries and archives in iWeb podcasts

Is there a way to keep files on the entries page? I uploaded several files and only a few are displayed on the current entries page the others appear in the Archives page and are not automatically downloaded when someone subscribes to the podacast and opens iTunes.
I would like to have control over what stays on the entries page.
    Thanks
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.3)

    Here you go...try this....
    1. Open up iWeb
    2. Click on your blog/podcast page
    3. Now open the Inspector
    4. Click on the RSS tab
    5. Change the number of entries displayed
    HI

  • Streaming podcast/download issue

I am having issues streaming a podcast on my phone. The website uses a Flashplayer interface and I understand that is not available with the newer software. However I used to be able to download to the phone and listen that way. Now I can not download using Firefox and when I try to using the phone's browser I can download the file but when I try to play it it says the file can not be played in either Google Play Music or by the My Music feature. The website has not changed file formats so the issue is definitely with the phone. Any help would be appreciated.

The feed for this podcast is at http://www.kfiam640.com/podcast/BillHandel.xml
The latest episode in the feed is 'Handel on the News (10/25) and this shows in the Store. However when subscribing no episodes show at all. This is because there is at least one fatal error in the feed, which either is affecting subscribing but not the Store, or was introduces since the Store last checked the feed.
    FeedValidator says
'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xe9 in position 13709: invalid continuation byte (maybe a high-bit character?)'
This generally means that the originator has pasted some text in from a word processor and has incuded a 'curly quote' instead of a straight typewriter-style quote, or some other character (even an invisible line return) which XML won't handle. He's going to have to go through the feed looking for it.
Also, the second line in the feed reads
    <rss version="2.0" xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/DTDs/Podcast-1.0.dtd" >
which is wrong: it should be
    <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">
Because of this error iTunes cannot read any of the 'itunes' tags such as 'itunes:subtitle' and 'itunes:summary'. There are various other errors listed in the FeedValidator report; but basically the error I first mentioned is the one which is wrecking the feed.
