IWeb Portfolios and google search results

I recently created a website for my business with a selection of portfolios showcasing work I had done.
On of my clients had noticed that when they google their business one of my folio pages comes up with the following:
back back. forward forward. back. download · thumbnails on thumbnails on · thumbnails off thumbnails off · play. previous previous. next next...
I have also noticed that it does the same for another client folio.
I would really like to change this so that google eventually read something like:
Branding & design solutions for marketing communications. Is is possible to do within iWeb?

With iWeb '08 you have the option to publish to a local folder to add tags and upload to MobileMe by drag and drop to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites.
By doing this, you do lose some of the functions of iWeb as you will see in the Help files.
There's a lot of good reasons why you shouldn't rely on MobileMe for a business site but, if you have to use it, you can still get search engine attention.
You need to follow the steps in the section of iWeb for Musicians that I mentioned above and use your MobileMe URL to allow Google etc to get to your sitemap.
Its also more or less essential to build your own navigation menu rather than use the default iWeb one.....

.... and follow the guidelines to get your site to load on a PC running Internet Explorer .....

... if you want most of the rest of the world to be able to see your website.

• Flickr pages and Google search result pages are smaller

When I go to a Flickr page or a Google search result page, the entire page is smaller. Content is the same, but the fonts and images are smaller.

To start with, try pressing holding down Ctrl and then pressing 0 ( Zero). That will reset your zoom if you have zoomed out.

• Iweb 08 AND google search???

Hey, I hope someone can help me. 1st off, I don't know much about page design and all that stuff. I know a little, but please simple terms.
I'm thinking of making a page in Iweb, however, I want my page to be indexed and search easy if someone should try to find my site on google. I have heard 2 stories.
1) if you make your website in iweb, don't expect to get much trafic as google probably wont find it or pick it up. SO for small business, iweb is NOT the way to go
2) Google will find your site if you add google maps and google products to your site.
I just want the world to know my site!!! But if google can't pick it up..or is unlikely to pick it up...then what's the point? Can someone please help??

• IWeb sitemap and Google search

I'm sorry, I mistakenly formerly entered this topic as a post on a previously answered question regarding Google Keywords. I have more questions on this topic.
I have two questions:
2. I have .mac and am using domain forwarding. I obtained and followed step by step instructions from iweb Faq - show up on Google. I obtained the sitemap and placed it in the Web/Site folder. When I check with Google webmaster tools, I get the following warning:
URLs not followed
When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs were not accessible to Googlebot because they contained too many redirects. Please change the URLs in your Sitemap that redirect and replace them with the destination URL (the redirect target). All valid URLs will still be submitted.
2. How do I refresh my iweb sitemap?
I'm a genuine newbie, and don't know anything about html.
Thanks for any help.

Here's a couple of examples of links to other sites.....
http://www.mirroroftheuniverse.com/Contact.html
http://www.mirroroftheuniverse.com/Buy.html
These can be links to sites that you think would be of interest to your viewers, retail outlets and services related to your product.
Some of the links on the "Buy" page are there because these sites link to mine and the site owners have requested a link to theirs. This particular product is listed on 60+ sites so I can't possibly put them all in although, in a perfect world, I would take the time to do so!
Interlinking of websites is normally a reciprocal arrangement between site owners whose websites compliment each other but are not in direct competition.

• I see google search results, scroll down and they vanish. Why?

All of a sudden when I am using Firefox I get a list of Google search results, scroll down and poof I see only a blank page. What's going on?

Hello jpachner,
Does this happen only in Google or have you noticed it any other web pages? Most of these issues could be because of some plugins or configuration changes.
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

• DEFAULT Heading, Title, Main Text...for google search result??

Hi,
Every pages when we added in iWeb it'll come with some default Text Box shown as
*"Type a heading for your webpage here", "Type the main text for your page here", "Type the title for the page" ...*
Do the above default text box helps for Google search result?
Any other useful purpose for that?

mactreouser wrote:
What bout Adding a Text Box? Isn't the same thing of the Default Title Box? Or it must be place at the Top ? or it already pre-set for search engines?
You could find out if its the same thing by doing the following:
Add a text box to your home page, publish your iWeb site to a folder, click on +"Visit Site Now"+ and then in Safari do +View > View Source+. Then look for the title tag that the article talks about:
<title>Your title here</title>

• Why do google search results reset to match the search bar terms when i use the back button?

Since the update to FF 23, the list of Google search results clears and the on-page search box is reset to match the address bar search box when I hit the back button to re-view the results list after checking a result.
To see this issue for yourself, set your search provider to Google and make sure Instant is on. Type a search term into the search bar and press enter. A google page appears with your results list. Now, change your search terms or conduct a new search directly from the google page (without using the FF search bar). Click on the first result in the search list, then click the back button to return to the search results so you can check a differest result. As FF goes back to the google page, it will reset the on-page search box to match the FF search bar (although you were no longer on this search) and all search results will disappear, replaced by the message "Press enter to search". Pressing enter reconducts your old search, not the one you were on.
This is incredibly maddening since searching for something requires frequent use of the back button to check through the list of search results, and then frequently trying the search again with slightly different terms. Although it sounds like a Google issue, it did not occur on the old firefox and has me wanting to revert. I tried to revert to the old search function via the "keyword search" addon, but this did not fix my issue. Is there a way to force FF to go back to the actual google search page I was just on instead of conducting a new google search from the FF search box when I hit the back button?

In Firefox 23 versions and later the keyword.URL pref is no longer supported and it is no longer possible to specify the search engine for the location bar via the keyword.URL pref.<br />
The search engine that is used on the location bar and on the about:home page is the search engine that is selected in the search Bar on the Navigation Toolbar.<br />
Current Firefox versions do not update the about:home home page until you refresh the page (future versions will do this automatically without a refresh) and that is what happens if you use the Back key.
You can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page.

• I'm having trouble with something that redirects Google search results when I use Firefox on my PC. It's called the 'going on earth' virus. Do you have a fix that could rectify the vulnerability in your software?

I'm having trouble with a virus or something which affects Google search results when I use Firefox on my PC ...
When I search a topic gives me pages of links as normal, but when I click on a link, the page is hijacked to a site called 'www.goingonearth.com' ...
I've done a separate search and found that other users are affected, but there doesn't seem to be a clear-cut solution ... (Norton, McAfee and Kaspersky don't seem to be able to detect/fix it).
I'd like to continue using the Firefox/Google combination (nb: the hijack virus also affects IE but not Safari) - do you have a patch/fix that could rectify the vulnerability in your software?
thanks

"... vulnerability in your software?" <br />
And it affects IE, too? Ya probably picked up some malware and you blame it on Firefox.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are listed in order of efficacy.<br />(Not all programs detect the same Malware, so you may need to run them all to solve your problem.) <br />These programs are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />

• Safari 5.0.2 doesn't save any more google search results in the history.

Hello together,
Safari doesn't save any more google search results in the history.
Steps to reproduce:
1.) go to google.com
2.) search for "APPLE"
3.) open the history
Result: the search for "APPLE" is not saved - only the Google mainpage.
This has something to do with the new search string in the Location bar. Safari does not save URL with /#.
For example:
the new string is http://www.google.de/#hl=...
the old one is: http://www.google.de/search?hl=....
The change must something to do with the new Google-Search-Feature. When I deactivate it, then google works with the old string and I found the searches in the history.
The second negative effect is, when you type "apple" into the location bar (after a search), the autocomplete shows the search result, but when you hit enter, you are redirected to the Google-Mainpage.
Very annoying
Can somebody confirm.
Thanks

• As of this morning, I am being redirected to uk.gomeo when i click on google search results in Safari. Do I have a virus?

Hi,
First time poster and very non-techy person here. I am being redirected to urls starting "uk.gomeo..." when clicking on Google search results in Safari. Quick search on this seems to suggest I have a virus. Not sure what to do or how to get rid of it. Not sure what could have caused it either. Downloaded Acrobat update couple of days ago which took hours, and Twitter account was hacked about a week ago. All software updates up to date. Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks.

Sorry editing that way doesn't work anymore in Lion. But you can look and see if there are any google entries in it. If there are not any google entries you can ignore my posts. If there are try this:
Open terminal
sudo nano /etc/hosts
When prompted for the sudo password - The correct password is your own (the password of the user logged into OS X, also the password you provide when doing system updates and so on).
now you can delete the line(s) that contain google and save.
Using your arrow keys go to the line containing google. Delete the line. Do the same for all lines containig google.
if you have a problem deleting, do a control-x to exit, and reply n to the modified buffer question. To save your changes do a  control-o and hit enter , then do a control-x to quit.
Note: normally you never edit the hosts file, but if you see google entries in it then a malware programs has added them. It has been happening with a bogus flash update, that installs flash and asks for your system password. SOmething that seem quite normal when installing software. This bogus flash update makes the hosts modifications adding their own IP adrress for google.

• Google search results won't open in a new window

I like to have Google search results open in a new tab and, until recently, using Google's settings allowed me to do that. But now if I click a lik in search results, it opens the page in the same window. In other words, FF "refuses" to obey Google's preferences.

Firefox should divert the new window to a new tab when you check this box in Google's Search Settings:
"Open search results in a new browser window"
I can't think of any reason for Firefox to divert a new window back into the same tab.
In case one of your add-ons is the culprit, could you try Firefox's Safe Mode?
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox using Help>Restart with Add-ons Disabled. Don't check any of the boxes in the Safe Mode dialog, just Continue in Safe Mode.
Does it make any difference?

• Stop Firefox from reverting back to Google Search Results when opening a page from results list

When I click on one of the results from a Google search, I have it open the page in a new window. The page opens in the new window just fine, but instead of letting me view the page in the new window, Firefox takes me back to the Google Search results page. I am able to click on the new window and view the page that I chose, but it gets old being sent back to the search results each time I click on one of them and attempt to view it.
This happens on my work PC, home laptop, and my desktop at home as well. I have different versions running on each machine, and home laptop has the latest version of Firefox. I have searched the web and cannot find anyone having this same problem, much less a resolution, so I will ask here.
I hope this makes sense, if more info is needed please let me know.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

One reason for this can be if the new window contains Flash media, but Flash hasn't been used for several minutes, the Adobe protected mode feature changes the order of the windows. This is a bug that Adobe has yet to fix. This thread describes the problem in more details and lists the known workarounds: Opening New Windows and Shockwave Flash.
If you rule out the Flash issue, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).
Any difference?

• Google search results shows no thumbnail images in Firefox as compared to IE or Chrome.

When doing a google search, I see no thumbnail images for things like youtube video's or an image that would typically come from authority site. Is there a setting in FireFox that is inhibiting this?
Compared to IE or Chrome which does shows a little image in Google search results.

• Google search results acting are not showing up right after FF update

So after I updated FF from 12 to 13 my Google search results have been weird whether I search from the homepage, tool bar or from Google.com. For example if I were to search " Avatar: The Last Airbender wiki" you would expect the Wikipedia page for the show to be the first result but this is what ends up showing up:
Image of search results
But if I were to search in Private Browsing mode this is what I get:
Private browsing search
Same search yet it yields to different results and I tried it in IE and Chrome and the search is working just fine in both of those as well. The problem seems to only be when I search for something in FF normally.
If anyone can shed some light into why this is happening I would be grateful, since I prefer FF to anything else.

you could try to clear the cache & cookies from google.com and reload the page.

• Resize Google search results

Why can't I resize google search results in safari?
Doesn't matter if it's search results or even google.com/news
I can't resize the results. I can zoom in on the links when I click them, but the results are too small for me to read. Same problem with facebook
BTW .. fwiw, it it works on the G1

You can't resize the search results because Google optimized the pages for iPhone. That means that Google automatically senses that you're visiting the page from iPhone and automatically resizes the page.
But it is not happening every time. Sometimes Google give you an big page which is resizable but nowadays the resized pages are more common.
