Iweb problem?  Corrupt domain?  .mac problem?

I have had an iweb08 site for about 6 months now with no problems. All of the sudden today it is all jacked up. Everything looks fine within iweb, but when I go to the actual site, all of the blog posts are missing, pictures are missing, it asks me for my password multiple times, etc.
The funny thing is that the site looks different every time I go there or even after a refresh. Sometimes things show up, sometimes they don't. It's not the same things missing every time, but something is always screwed up. I've tried viewing it on multiple computers and used safari, firefox, and even internet explorer. Same results. Sometimes I just get a blank page that says "Unauthorized".
I've tried making a minor change and republishing the site, removing my password protection from the site, etc.
Again, everything looks fine in iweb. I did the MacBook Pro firmware upgrade that Apple pushed out the other day so perhaps that had something to do with it.
I back up my domain quite often, but perhaps too often. I have a backup from a day or two ago but I'm afraid that may have the same problem.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Deltron612,
I also have a backup from yesterday, but I've done a fair amount of ongoing work (I'm actively building the site right now), and it would be a big hassle to go back to an earlier version and redo everything.
Besides, I'm pretty convinced the problem is on (Apple) server side, and not with iWeb. I haven't added anything unusual to my site over the past day, mainly just text and a couple of images. Things would really get frustrating if I backtracked to an earlier version, only to notice that nothing has improved.
I just tried switching off my password protection and the site seems to be working okay again--maybe this is the problem? It's possible, since I was also getting the "unauthorized" messages earlier.
If you're interested and have time, it would be helpful if you took a quick look at my site to test it for me, and to let me know if you have any problems accessing it. The URL is: http://www.blumenbach.info

  • IWeb 2.0 corrupts Domain while updating

iWeb 2.0 offered to update my iWeb 1.0 Domain file. The resulting Domain produces the same site but with ALL the photos removed from Photo pages. Yet other page types remain intact. The Domain file has shrunk from 1GB to 420MB.
Has anyone else encountered this issue?

After the update... I used to use iweb with iwebsites to work on 8 web sites with no problems. I would publish the sites to a folder and then use ftp to put them online.
I upgraded to iweb '08 and it TOTALLY RUINED everything! I could not access ANY of the 8 sites! I found that I certainly cannot import the sites back into iweb... that would require simple common sense.
This one event has caused me to come to a conclusion... I will likely use macs and OSX, but I will never again purchase apple software of any kind.

  • IWeb 2009 - Crash & Domain.Site possible corruption?

I was working on a webpage that I publish to my MobileMe account. Created the Welcome page, no problem, when I got to the "My Albums" is when my crashing problem begain. Something regarding a Kernal Exception (SGID).
    These were the steps:
Created Album on "Sites" list in iWeb.
    Selected a template from presets.
(this is where the problem began). I dragged a MobileMe Gallery I created in iPhoto, into the templates "drag and drop album here" element on the Album page in iWeb.
The Domains.site2 file it was using, would crash iWeb everytime.
I deleted (moved Domains.site2) to trash, and iWeb would once again, load.
I created another site, saved it, then moved it to another folder, so I would be prompted by iWeb to create or choose a domain site.
I chose the Domain.site2 file that had been causing the iWeb crashes, and it loaded.
When I attempted to select the album page under "My Albums", it would crash everytime. But I could at least still load iWeb. But there was no way to remove the "corrupt?" album page from Domains.site2. So basically, I had to start over.
Now, I go to create a new Domain site, I publish it to my MobileMe web/site. But the Domain.site file could not be found anywhere! Perhaps, instead of using ".site" or "site" as the root name, I named it "The Art of t.king", caused this?
    So my question is:
1.) How do I avoid creating corrupt Domains.sites? can I not use Galleries created in iPhoto that are MobileMe sync enabled? I "thought" it would be nice, if the website album auto-updated content when updating the MobileMe Sync'd Gallery in iPhotos.
2.) Do the suffices of Domain.Sites have to be "sitesxxxx"? is this why I lost my last Welcome page / Domain.TheArt_oft.king? (it shows on mobile me browing "/web" contents.

Welcome to the discussions. Try using Spotlight to search for the latest Domain file. ...It has an extension (usually hidden) of:
    .sites2
But Spotlight doesn't look in all areas of the hard drive — so if no luck, download and run Find File to search for ".sites2".
    InterAd wrote:
Can I recover the file from the published site?
    No.
Or do I have to rebuild it from scratch?
You'll have to if you can't find the Domain file.
And it's not only your Domain file that you may lose; as someone wrote:
"Be very careful with those domain filed. You lose them and your toast."

  • Can anyone help me with an iWeb problem? I cannot save the site after making changes. I receive this error: "website.sites2 could not be saved"

Can anyone help me with an iWeb problem? I cannot save the site after making changes. I receive this error: "website.sites2 could not be saved"

You could try duplicating the Domain.sites2 file and launch this in iWeb. Delete the last page you edited and try saving. If that doesn't work, undo and try deleting another and so on...
If you can find the problem page you would only have to rebuild it rather than the whole site.
The other possibility is to create a new site on the same domain file and drag each page in turn down to it from the top site and try to save each time.

If I get this old site back into IWeb...
Jane ~ It's not clear to me what the situation is. Do you have two iWeb Domain files on the same Mac? ...If so, it's okay to keep them separate (in their own folder) and open each as needed by double-clicking. By the way, for searching purposes it may be useful to know that an iWeb '06 Domain file is called "Domain.sites" and iWeb '08 & '09 Domain files are called "Domain.sites2" — although the “.sites” extension is usually invisible.
It's also possible to merge multiple Domain files into one — see this old beta software called iWebSites:
    http://mistergregg.com/cocoadrillosoftware/iWebSites/
Post back with more info about what Domain files you have and where they're located and perhaps someone here will chip in with some good advice. But whatever you decide to do, first make backup copies of your Domain files — just in case.

  • Transfer of domain created in iweb to a new Mac running OS X Lion 10.7.4.  Files not present.

I'm moving a domain created in iweb to a new Mac running OS X Lion 10.7.4.  I transferred the domin files via a thumb drive and I can see that the domain contents are present on the new computer.  However, when I double click, iweb opens and the domain files are not there.  I have also tried dropping the domain files into iweb via Library/Application Support/iweb.  Same thing happens when opening from there.  Thank you!

I'm a little unclear on what you have done, but the entire contents of your iWeb site should be in the Domain.sites2 file in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb.  (Note that tilde ['~'] character, it's important!  That means that we're talking about the Library folder in the user folder, not the one at the root level of the hard drive.)
In order to use that file on a different machine, you must take that entire file and put it in the same folder on the new machine.  Be sure you are putting it in the correct Library folder!  If you put it in the wrong place, iWeb will not see it, and will open as if you haven't created any sites yet.
If you're having trouble getting to that folder (since Lion makes the user Library folder invisible), hold down the option key while choosing Library from the Finder's Go menu.  That will open a new window showing the contents of the user Library folder.

  • AOL and PC iWeb problems?

Why don't my iWeb pages appear in AOL? Is there a fix for this forthcoming from Apple?
I've seen posts here that complain about iWeb sites not displaying properly on PC's but all of my friends with PC's report no problem with my site. Are there certain circumstances or certain browsers that are specific to producing iWeb problems on a PC? (As in, is there anything I should avoid doing on my pages?)
    Thanks...

Why don't my iWeb pages appear in AOL?
What are you seeing exactly? A url would really help in figuring out what you are talking about.
    Is there a fix
    for this forthcoming from Apple?
    I doubt it.

  • How do I fix a corrupt domain?

    Hi there,
Came across this last night and, whilst not the end of the world, it's inconvenient.
I just bought a 13" MBP running SL, and am wanting to use it to update my iWeb blog instead of the iMac G5 (leopard). I copied the "domain" file from the iMac to a USB and transferred it to the corresponding folder on the MBP. Opened iWeb - hey presto, the files were all there and looking exactly as I expected.
I created a new entry, attempted to publish, and got the dreaded "Publish error: An unknown error occurred" pop-up.
Searched the interwebz for a solution, and found one to determine if the problem was with the transferred domain file - moved the domain file on the MBP to a new folder, deleted the User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iweb.plist file, restarted, opened iWeb, created a new site and published to a local folder etc etc). A-OK, therefore problem seems to be with the transferred domain file being corrupt
My question is - How can I fix this corrupted domain file so I can use the MBP for iWeb'ing?

    Chris Wever wrote:
I tried to post a new entry on my blog (on the original Mac) and still got the publishing error. Shall I admit defeat yet?
Chris ~ Not yet. Since problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums, it might be useful to see whether removing the Blog page on your MBP enables you to successfully publish the rest of your site...
First make a backup of your Domain file:
    _Backing up your Domain file_
...then open iWeb and delete the Blog page. Then republish your website by choosing +Publish Entire Site+ from the File menu.
NOTE: If it successfully publishes, you will have determined that the problem is indeed in the Blog page. But having removed that page from your site, you may not be able to restore ANY of your blog by restoring from your backup and republishing — because you'll probably get the error again on both Macs.
By the way, for a success story using a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:

  • Publish iWeb 09 site to .Mac?

Can I publish a site that I made in iWeb 09 to my .Mac address? I need to do this because I cannot get Mobile Me to publish to my personal domain (me.com/username)

I want to publish a seperate website to .Mac or MobileMe, which means that I want to publish the second website to www.username.com.
This still makes no sense. If you publish your website to MobileMe/.Mac (they are the same), it will have the url web.me.com/username. Have you had a problem doing this and gotten an error message? What is your username and the name you gave your site inside the iWeb app?
What is "www.username.com"? Another personal domain name you own?

  • Using iWeb for non dot-mac sites

    Hi all,
I own a number of domains that I'd like to use iWeb on. Am I able to utilize iWeb for a non .mac domain, or do I need to use something like Dreamweaver?
    Many thanks.
    -Hugh

No, in fact I have a sneaky suspicion that not using dot-mac sites will eliminate a lot of problems other people have. You will also lose some of the effects like the nicer slideshow etc.
I have never used dot-mac and never encountered any of the uploading/publishing problems that are so often mentioned on this forum.
    Here is what you do:
After editing your website you choose :Publish to a folder.
This lets you choose a location on your hardrive into which all the necessary files will be compiled/rendered. In this folder you will find an htlm file plus a folder with the necessary files for easch of your pages.. This publishing is done lightning fasy pecause it is done locallly and not trhough your internetconnection like when you published to dot-mac. Also post-editing is easy and hassle free.
For editing and uploading my website I use "Transmit" but there are lots of other applications like "Fetch"
    What to upload?
Well I believe the jury is still out on this.
I just upload the contents of the published folder and that works for me. Other publish the whole folder plus the dummy "Index file" that is generated outside that folder. You will heve to find out for your self.
If any changes or editing has to be done afterwards, I republish and then just upload the altered files.
There is one more thing I do, and I believe others don't. I keep my domain file in the same folder where I keep the Published folder.
E.g. there is a festival website, so I have a folder "Festival" in which I keep the domains file, and the published "Festival website" folder.
This way it is easy to keep various different websites.
When you want to edit one of them, go to that folder and double click the domains file, this will start iWeb with the right website for you to edit.
    Really very easy.

  • Potential solution to iWeb 08 corrupting iWeb 06 files

I too have been bitten by the problem of having photo albums and other content vanish from my newly converted iWeb 2.0 files. My symptoms were that after each successive save of the converted domain file, the file would lose more and more content (and become progressively smaller). But as soon as the second save I would have photo albums with blank pages, etc.
    After reading this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5100025#5100025
which referred to a fix that involved opening the domain package and manually deleting all the .plist files, it occurred to me that there might be a way to get iWeb to do this for us.
What I tried - and what seems to have worked through multiple edit / save sessions whereas previously on the second save I would see corruption - was to let iWeb 2.0 update my old iWeb 1.0 domain file, but before changing any content and more importantly before performing any saves on my own, immediately to go through each page (main, blog entries, archive and all other pages) and use the "Change Theme" capability to change the theme for that page twice in succession: once to a new theme (usually just picked at random) followed by a change back to the original theme.
After all pages were "re-themed," so to speak, I saved the domain content.
For me this appears to have created an iWeb 2.0 happy file that I can open, edit and save so far many times without corruption as before.
My rationale for trying this was that if iWeb 2.0 does do things differently, and the old settings in the .plist files in the domain package were somehow involved, then by forcing a theme change at least once that perhaps would force iWeb to fix the content so that it was internally consistent. I'm assuming that the first theme change actually cleans things up; the second one just brings it back to the way I wanted it to appear.
In doing this I have only seen one minor glitch: The Main page for the "Gazette" theme has some strange colored backgrounding on the right and left text panels, but I can live with that for the moment. It's better than recreating my site from scratch.
    -- Bob

i havent tried that - but if you are using a third-party theme, you will have to redo it.
what i also suggest doing is, that you backup your current domain file along with iweb 06!

  • Corrupted domain file - any repair software out there?

Having just upgraded to iLife09 after a few uses of iWeb I now can't access my intensely-worked on website file - the apple support guy took me through lots of ways to see whether it was iWeb or the domain file where everything is saved which was the problem. Apparently it's the domain file (although I now can't get into iWeb again either - although I managed once or twice after we took the domain file out, and it was like I had never been there..all blank). He suggested I search for software created to repair domain files which are corrupted. Basically all my website is in the domain file, it's sitting on my desktop now, and I can't access use it. I did do a back-up, but manually, and I ignorantly backed up the wrong file - one that had already been published to the desktop - which can't be re-imported either... I have a lot to learn.

I've created an Automator workflow that will backup the contents of the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Documents folder. It can be used any time, like after you publish. If you have an external HD you can edit the workflow with Automator to save to a different destination. It's called iWeb Domain File Backup and can be downloaded from Toad's Cellar .
I used it before I got Synk Standard which does incremental backups, i.e. copies only those new or modified files in the domain files - much faster than copying the entire domain file.

  • What's wrong with Leopard mail, its allowed in, something corrupting my mac

    Hi,
I recently bought a brand new 24 inch iMac and Leopard. Most things were fine until I received an unsolicited email on 28th Nov ...from a
Gemma Hindley FW; Compost like a pro
since then mail has gone haywire. I cannot delete this email at all. I cant receive any emails and I work from home and am really desperate as this is causing me major stress.
The waste paper icon has gone from my mail window and although emails are deleted from the working window, the dont go in the waste bin or the waste bin in the dock. When I quit ad reopen Gemma Hindley reappears.
Many times a completely different window appears when I open mail one that I have never seen before and is very difficult to navigate. many of the icons in the mail header bar are non operative with this window.
Other times Mail wont open, or wont quit, or cant send emails, have nt received any since Gemma this email. Then I went through this forum and found that if I
Open mail go to prefs general and switch check mail "manually.
    Force quit mail
Open Mail again go to prefs junk mail and turn off spam filtering
This then allowed me to open the usual mail working window and I received that infuriating email again and no other ones at all. I have sent myself emails and so have others but they have not been received by me at all. the above steps allowed me to send emails.
There is obviously a problem with Leopard mail. Whether or not this email has corrupted my mac I don't know. It looks like it is blocking all my incoming emails.
I am not as adept as many of you on this forum, just a simple user trying to earn a living and not able to do so at present. Help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance. George UK

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
    Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.

If you don't have a .Mac account or you don't want to pay a monthly fee to host your new website you created with iWeb, you can use OS X's built-in Apache Web server. To accomplish this, follow the steps in the link below.

I was able to get this to work, using the same configuration you mention. The way I did it was to set up the IP address on my LAN using fixed static addresses, and to have the router "forward" the http packets to the Mac running Apache. In Network system preferences panel, you also need to set the DNS servers address to the address of the router on the LAN. In order to reduce hackers trying to break in, I don't use the standard port 80 for my address, but use some other 4-digit port (e.g., 8182), so my website address ends up looking like www.whatever:8182. Instead of "no-IP.com" I used the free dynamic name service from http://www.dyndns.com/. I also put the web content on a firewire disk, which requires a little editing of the httpd.conf file. This was another security precaution. Anyhow, its been working great -- not a single problem. Also, Weblock is great shareware that lets you assign login IDs on the web folders.

  • Corrupted Domain

Hi, today when i was using Iweb, i tried to insert an image and unfortunally Iweb Crashes, i restart my macbook and when i try to open the application i legend appear: Iweb cannot open Domain....
I can search into the content package, i created a new domain and transfer file by file and i discover the problematic file is localAssets.plist, when i transfer that file to the new domain's content package the iweb doesn't open. ALso the index.tz is 0KB
    Excuse my english
    thanks

What type of error message are you getting when you try to publish? Can you publish to a local folder? If not then, yes, the domain file is damaged.
    You might try the following:
Make a backup copy of the problem site first. In the domain file that you're having problems with create a new site, give it a test name, add one page and see if you can publish it. If you can then do your copy and paste from the original site to the new one. Once you've copied all of the pages to the new site, delete the old one, rename the new one to "old site.2" and publish. If all goes well and it works as intended you can rename the site to the original site and publish again replacing your original site. However, I don't think the archives will be preserved but that's just a guess as I don't do blogs.
What version of iWeb 2 are you using? If you have the lastest version then you should be able to have multiple domain files and publish without problem. Was the new blog name the same as the old one? If so then yes it would overwrite the original published blog.
