IWeb Published Quicktime Movie Won't Play in Safari. Only Quicktime Logo Shows.

I created a movie using iMovie and, after publishing my movie, using iWeb, to my MobileMe account, I visit the site using Safari, and can only see the Quicktime logo instead of my movie. When I use Firefox to view the page I created, it shows fine. I'm all up to date on my software and OS.
Any help you can offer me? It seems like all the Apple pieces aren't working well together.
All my other published movies still work fine. It's just this most recently-published one that won't show correctly.

They are compressed in H.264 .mov. Only one works well on my macbook leopard snow and air ipad ios8. The two other Jazz and Jazz2 run on iPad but not macbook. Sometimes I succeeded, but this is very rare. Can anyone tell me please what I should do or not do?

You said that QuickTime movies won't play "inside Firefox". Do they play inside Safari or when you directly access a QuickTime Movie file that's been saved on your Mac ?
See the Firefox Support article, [[Use the QuickTime plugin to play audio and video]]. It has some test links and explains how to enable the QuickTime plugin in the Add-ons Manager, in case it's been disabled in Firefox.
Like you say, QuickTime is built into the operating system on Mac OS so if you can't enable the browser plugin in Firefox or if it's missing, your best bet would be a Mac forum such as https://discussions.apple.com/

The specs stated that it does record MPEG video.
The Mac mini is a super drive w/ + & - capability. I guess I'll have to buy another recorder to get this to work.

Quicktime movies won't play on Apple Website

I formatted my HD and reinstalled Snow Leopard. Last night and this morning I was watching the videos on http://www.apple.com/business/theater/#activecorners?sr=hotnews.rss, but tnight when I went back there, the movies won't play, nor will any other movies on the entire website. All I get is a Quicktime Icon with a question mark in the middle of it. I have both Quicktime X and Quicktime Pro 7 installed, with Pro in the Utilities folder.

After loading the AppleMPEG2.Component into the Quicktime folder in the Library, everything started working again. I'm not sure if that's what made it start working again though.

Movie won't play in Safari in 10.6, will in FireFox and earlier Mac OS

I am updating some web pages and I discovered that on my system running 10.6 a QuickTime movie embedded into the page won't play in Safari. The movie plays if the movie's URL is entered, but it won't play in the page, though another movie on another page plays fine. On the same computer the problem movie page works fine in FireFox.
The HTML is simple...

The file was made in 2003 (back when QuickTime Player supported Flash tracks).
Since QuickTime 7.3.1 support for .swf tracks has been dropped do to security concerns.
The file will not play in QuickTime X or QuickTime Player 7.3.1, or higher. I viewed it on my Snow Leopard machine using an older copy of QuickTime 6.5.2 (and Rosseta).

"Export as Quicktime Movie" -- won't play on other computers

When I use the "Export as Quicktime Movie" option and try to play it back on a Mac without FCP installed, it is missing components and won't play back in Quicktime Player. Of course, I can export with various compressions and then it's fine, but sometimes I want that big "original" file. Any thoughts? Thanks!

You do need the codec you are exporting to installed in the other machine if you wish to play the exported file. A variety of codecs are available only with FCP installed.
A couple of possible solutions are a very high res H.264 or Download [ProRes decoder|http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forMac] to share a prores file between machines.

Quicktime Movies Won't Play on Godaddy's Server

I moved my site from valueweb to Godaddy a mouth ago all of my videos now show up with a question mark and won't play. I called them they said it is a problem in iWeb. Can any take a look at my page and let me know what you think.

In any case, if correctly uploaded you site should have more to the url, like the name of the folder which demo.html is in. You should upload the folder which has the same name as your site does inside iweb plus the index.html which is published alongside that folder.

Some QuickTime movies won't play after 10.4.4 upgrade

I recently upgraded to 10.4.4 and now some QuickTime movies - mostly from Safari won't play any more. I do online training and none of those QuickTime movies will play. They load perpetually. They also work fine on my other machine (which I haven't upgrade from v10.4.3 yet)
According to System Profiler, I'm running QuickTime 7.0.0 - but I can't find 7.0.1 in the Apple downloads section. I'm not even sure if that will help.
Any ideas?

Most current version of QT is indeed 7.0.4, but Apple has removed that update and instead posted one that backs 7.0.4 back to 7.0.1.
Apple is now passively recommending against 7.0.4

Published HTML movie won't play

I just published a short movie from Flash CS4 and placed the entire set of files at this URLhttp://hdtravelentertainment.com/BW1/BW%20Flash5_09/Page-1/ and when my web designer or me for that matter double clicks on the HTML file the movie doesn't play. We get a black screen and at the bottom of the frame in the progress bar there's a little green & white zebra like moving line.
I'm pretty sure this is how I've delivered movies from CS3. I'm obviously missing something obvious here, but I haven't a clue.
Thanks for any advice. If I double click on the HTML file on my machine that has Flash installed it works great. The .FLV file plays correctly in media player also.

In properties I went to the source and deleted everything but the actual name of the .flv file. The error I get is:"Netstream.play.streamnotfound : Adobe Flashtried to play a live or recorded stream that does not exist. Source can't be found"
In my folder at this moment I just have the .flv file and my .fla file.

Quicktime movies won't play - Displays quicktime logo with question mark

I've searched the forums and haven't found a solution so I decided to straight out ask. I can no longer view quicktime clips (Apple movie trailers) in safari. The box comes up to play but then just displays the Quicktime "Q" with a question mark over it. I've checked the installed plug-ins from the help menu and it does show quicktime. This used to work fine so I'm not sure what happened. I cleared my history recently but don't think that would affect it. Also, everything runs fine when using Firefox. Thanks in advance for any help.

Since it's working in Firefox, Try Safari maintenance...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.

Since you are running Snow Leopard, make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode, not 64. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache Go to ~/Library/Safari/ and webpageIcons.db to the Trash.
Restart your Mac.
If nothing above helps, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.

Quicktime movie won't play in PC.

A QT movie, made on an IMac and copied to a flashdrive, will not play in my PC--even though the PC has Quicktime for Windows. I get the following message:
"the movie file 100_0816.dv cannot be found. without this file, the movie cannot play properly."
Any ideas? Suggestions? The movie plays just fine on the mac, but has to be viewed on a PC at school(yes, it's a project).

I answered your post. You've made a reference movie and not a "self contained" file.
How large in file size? KB's?

Iweb 08 - vimeo movie won't play when site is live

Hello. Please can someone help with this. I built a site yesterday on iWeb 08. It includes a movie downloaded from Vimeo and dropped into a movie page in iWeb.
Everything's fine on the iWeb page but there is no movie on the 'live' site. Any ideas what I've done wrong. Is there a good link (for dummies!0 to show me how to do this? Many thanks.

Check your account folder on the hosting service to make sure the video got uploaded.
Or use the File ➙ Publish Entire Site menu option to upload all of the files again.

Quicktime movie won't play in firefox

Hi. I just made a movie and trailer that I put up on the web. My friend programmed the site. I used apple's compressor program to compress the video for web. I chose the quicktime 7 setting. The quicktime 7 setting in compressor seems to be compressing it into a .mov file. The movie plays fine in safari and internet explorer, but for some reson will not play in firefox.
Has anybody had a similar problem? Does anybody know why I can't get this movie to play in firefox?

Quicktime Movie won't play music

I created a slideshow of images with music from iTunes. It plays perfectly on my computer, but when my client runs it, with the same version of Quicktime(7.2), the music doesn't play and an error message saying the music file can't be found comes up. Is there a way to imbed the music file into the slideshow to ensure it plays on other computers?

Thanks for the explanations. I am trying to get my brain around the notion that if I had a CD of my own downloaded to iTunes, I could make all the copies I wanted and use them however I wanted, but a legally purchased song that iPhoto has no objection to my exporting to a QT movie is outside the rules!

My Dreamweaver website movies won't play in Safari

I have made my own very simple website in Dreamweaver. I have a showreel page where files that I made in imovie I then export or 'share' and then place in Dreamweaver as 'Shockwave media' - embedded in the page. When you visit the page a quicktime icon appears briefly and then a player window appears and the movies play automatically with the scroll bar and pause button in view.
This site is as smooth as silk in Firefox 1.5.0.8, Internet Explorer 5.2.3, Netscape Navigator 7.2 and Opera 6.0.3.
My friends using Safari are also not able to view the movies- what we see online is just a static Macromedia Shockwave icon.
My one breakthrough is that if I put the full path to these .mov files in the file name box in Dreamweaver (ie HD/folder/next folder/filename and extension) (rather than folder/filename and extension) you can view the movie by clicking on the Shockwave icon and another window will open and show just the movie with none of page information. This however messes up the view in all of the other browsers too as they do the same. So it is as if Safari cannot find the file in my website folder, but all of the other browsers have no problem.
Any suggestions?
