IWeb Publishing url

When I publish my home page on my .Mac site I have my site address as :
http://web.mac.com/groups.ajbraun/iWeb/Site/Welcome.html
But when it finishes publishing it always inserts the following 90D0FC3C-1D6F-49FE-83BC-4762AB7CB77E
so now shows :
http://web.mac.com/groups.ajbraun/ajbraun/iWeb/90D0FC3C-1D6F-49FE-83BC-4762AB7CB 77E/Welcome.html
I have done a few searchs re this but haven't found a answer yet to why it keeps doing this.

When I publish the site it should be
http://web.mac.com/groups.ajbraun/Welcome.html
and it tells be that when it published ie it asked if you want to visit the site but when I do the url starts off as http://web.mac.com/groups.ajbraun/Welcome.html
then changes to
http://web.mac.com/groups.ajbraun/ajbraun/iWeb/90D0FC3C-1D6F-49FE-83BC-4762AB7CB 77E/Welcome.html
and the numeric sequence is always the same and there in the directory path is a folder called 90D0FC3C-1D6F-49FE-83BC-4762AB7CB77E
Note all this started when I had to recover from my backup files when my laptop crashed.

  • Iweb double-url is still showing even though I'm using a 3rd party host

A client of mine created and published a site in iweb.....she didn't even have hosting, so does iweb host files in the cloud? I deleted the site in her iweb app, changed the DNS, edited the domain file, updated to a 3rd party host, checked idisk, but im still getting the double-url (www.mysite.com/www.mysite.com/index.html/) crap that iweb does....it's like iweb is overriding everything else no matter what I do....there was an index.html file that was re-directing to the double-url, which i also promptly deleted...still no change....for the life of me I can't get just a normal URL (www.mysite.com) without having the additional url that iweb adds....I have no idea how to get rid of this....even with a fresh host, it still shows up.....anyone have any ideas other than scrapping the URL and finding a new one? I've never used iweb, but I've been doing web design for 5 years and i've never seen anything like this.....on a wordpress install, the URL works with the additional crap added, but there is some trouble when trying to set a 'home' link...I get a cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi error....which is problematic....when trying to get back to the homepage.....

The iWeb Domain file is just a package where the website data is stored. Once the site is published, iWeb isn't in the picture...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/iWeb-Tips.html
iWeb publishes a folder containing all the files for the website and an external index.html file. Unlike most websites, the index.html file is just a redirect to the Home page which is the one at the top of the list in the iWeb sidebar.
There's also a copy of the index.html file inside the folder. This arrangement is so that the site will work on Apple's - soon to be defunct - server MobileMe. Perhaps this is where you client published the site?
Its not quite clear how you are trying to conect the site to Wordpress. Can you explain?
If an iWeb site is published "as is", the URL for any page is...
    http://www.domain-name/folder-name/page-name.html
... where "folder-name" is the name of the site in the iWeb app which can be seen at the very top of the left column above the first or Home page name.

  • Can .Mac account name (user id?) be obscured in iWeb's URLs?

    http://gallery.mac.com/XXXXXXX
    http://web.mac.com/XXXXX/Site1/Welcome.html
Is there any way to obscure/hide the user's account name (XXXXXX) in the URLs?
I believe that the iWeb-published pages/sites can in effect be segregated in a manner that would make it hard for someone with one link to see the content on the .Mac subscribers other published iWeb sites. However, given that iWeb's URLs contain the user's account name [http://web.mac.com/XXXXX/Site1/Welcome.html], it is very simple to take the XXXXXX from that, and convert it to http://gallery.mac.com/XXXXXXX to see the subscribers full galleries.
I for one like to keep certain groups of people and certain published photos separate from one another. But, am unsure how to give people iWeb site URLs and NOT have them see my family photos by going to my .Mac/iPhoto Galleries.

    Hi Indy,
as far as I know the only way to do what you'd like to do is by setting up a personal domain, setting CNAME on it and then point it to the site you'd like to point people.
By doing this the user's account name would be hidden. And people visiting the site wouldn't know there's another site.
You could also password-protect the family sites but I don't think that's a solution.

    Cédric

When you publish to a folder, iWeb creates an outer folder with 2 things inside: an index.html file and an inner "site" folder.
Instead of FTP'ing the outer folder, open it up, ignore the index.html file, and only FTP the contents of the inner site folder.

  • IWeb short URL "trick"

I've been reading a number of posts about how to arrive at a shorter URL for iWeb sites; many seem to involve either using some other site or registering a domain name - I administrate five already, I don' need no more steenkin' domains. Anyway,... I came up with the following "trick"; alright, so it's not much of a trick, but it seems to work for me. For those used to short URL's like:
    http://homepage.mac.com/membername/
as your "site", you CAN have:
    http://web.mac.com/membername/
if you publish to a folder instead of letting iWeb publish to .Mac on its own. On your iDisk, you'll find a "Sites" folder which represents your HomePage sites, and a "Web" folder which represents your iWeb sites. For my test, I published to a folder called "iWeb" (didn't matter - could have been "foo") and gave it the "short" URL as a reference (not that it needed it; it was only the canned "Welcome" page). I then copied ONLY THE CONTENTS of that folder directly into the Sites folder within the Web folder on my iDisk. I then went to the "short" URL:
    http://web.mac.com/membername/
and it worked. Hope this helps; hope Apple also makes this a direct option within iWeb for those that only want to use their account for "a" site instead of multiple.

  • IWeb publishes, but there is no change to the site on .MAC

I have had a recent problem, where i apply changes in iWeb, publish them successfully (according to the program) and then try and visit them to find an unchanged site.
How do I trouble shoot this?
    Thanks
    MZ

    Hi
My URL for my home page is http://web.mac.com/martinzimelka/iWeb/homepage
I've put a screen-shot on a download page of mine of how the "homepage" should look like
    http://homepage.mac.com/martinzimelka/FileSharing5.html
I have deleted the iWeb folder contents on the iDisc, and then had iWeb publish the whole thing again.
Still the http://web.mac.com/martinzimelka/iWeb/photography link and the
    http://web.mac.com/martinzimelka/iWeb/homepage show the old pages.

  • HT4597 what will be the new alternatives for iWeb publishing,  Idisk & photo gallery ?

what will be the new alternatives for iWeb publishing,  Idisk & photo gallery ?

Thanks for the reply that there will be 3rd party support.
One of the main reasons why I went from PC to Mac was because of all these cool features.
Am dissapointed to see them leave.  ( Iweb, Photogallery, Idisk... )

  • IWeb published old photo names... will not update

I am having a problem with the photo pages. When I first built a photo page I used images whose file names were too long. When iWeb published the files the names became corrupted and would not display.
I can't get iWeb to forget the original file names...
I have re-named, deleted, re-imported, changes the file size, and made all the changes I can think of to get the photos to be seen as new images. No luck.
Every time iWeb publishes the site it uses the "historic" names for the files.
Any ideas? I'm about to delete the entire site and start over... but I would rather not do it that way. Who knows, that might not even work!
    Thanks!
    PPC Powerbook 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I've also had that problem - real headache
    Here's a fix (in princple) :
Within iWeb delete the photos you don't want from the page.
    Save "command-s"
    Quit iWeb
Before re-opening iWeb go and check the 'Domain' 'package' - this is where iWeb stocks the ressources and assets for you as 'user' :
    user/library/application support/iWeb/Domain
Click right to show hidden package contents (I use French Tiger so don't know if that's the right command name but you get what I mean).
Here you'll see all the files/images etc you have used in any of your sites/pages.
In principal when you save in iWeb the Domain gets updated and should throw out any images you deleted from your iWeb page - so those 'old' files should no longer exist.
I think what you may have been doing is deleting images from the page and NOT SAVING that change. In principal Publishing to a folder or .Mac constitues a 'save' but I'm not convinced that the two have the same effect on the Domain.
I actually binned directly from the Domain once but I've read elsewhere that tampering there might cause probs.
Hope that gives you some insight.

  • IWeb publishes updates but does not upload in the FTP

    HELP!
I have a 'tried-tested-true' website that's been on the internet for 10 years. It's been updated over the years but needed much more as of today.
The updates perfectly publish within iWeb [3.0.4]. The FTP uploads the site, but when I check it on the internet [Safari 6.2.3], the former version appears.
I proceeded to troubleshoot by renaming the website and re-mounting the pages. Also, renaming the pages, but after several attempts of uploading each newer version, all efforts were to no avail. It has taken me a full day without results. That is, the original website remains on the internet, which is very outdated.
I have run out of troubleshooting ideas. All of my other websites have not had this problem. There was an issue this week with the ISP Domain Host services not connecting my site. I contacted them, but have had no response. However, I thought I would try connecting again today in case they sorted out their connectivity issues. I am able to connect to their server. I have good reason to believe the FTP is uploading the updated directory files, but for some reason when it comes to viewing the site on the internet, au contraire.
Not sure if this is an iWeb problem or my ISP domain hosting services having issues with connectivity. Whatever, it is very perplexing to me as to what to do next after the extensive amount of time I have taken troubleshooting.
I repeat myself when I say, 'HELP!'

Okay, I understand what you are referencing. I am publishing my websites to the path of 'Users'-Documents-Website Documents.
Below is a screen shot of the folder my Websites are located. Is this what you are referencing? It is Site 2 that is having issues with uploading to the domain host server of my ISP. All the other sites have been uploaded successively.
I use FileZilla as my FTP server and it has been excellent. I have tried CyberDuck, et al. FZ works perfectly well indicating all that one needs to know while uploading. If my other websites were causing the same issues, then it would mean FTP issues.
However, I believe I am on the same track you are referencing with regards to my published website is in the appropriate location on my HD. I stand to be corrected.
I believe by my contacting the Forum and reading your information that I am following protocol as I have always done with my 4 websites that upload properly. As I continue the discussion, it is becoming evident the issue is with the Domain Host server, which is not a problem to post on this Forum.
However, I posted my issue just in case it was an iWeb issue or my not following protocol correctly to publish a website. From what I am gleaning with your information, I am following protocol. Repeating myself when I say it appears to be the aforementioned server. I have contacted them again about their Domain Host server but no response as yet.
If what I am presenting to you is the correct protocol I have in place at my end, I thank you for taking the time to assist me. By doing so, I believe I will be able to determine it is not an iWeb publishing issue [mostly because all my websites are not experiencing this problem], nor is it the FTP server,FileZilla, but the Domain Host Server.
As mentioned above, here is the folder where my websites are located.
    I so appreciate your assistance.

  • IWeb Publish Error - A lock occurred while publishing to MobileMe

iWeb Publish Error - A lock occurred while publishing to MobileMe. Try publishing again later.
I've tried all articles so far on apple support site. Tried on new OS user and publishing to folder and publishing a test page. I still get an error. Publishing to folder works fine, its just when I publish to MobileMe. Also tried different network and restarting computer etc.
    Help me. Thanks.

Try "Keychain First Aid" from the "Keychain Access" drop down menu.

  • Problems with iWeb publishing to MobileMe

    Hi,
Did you have some problems since about four days on publishing with iWeb to MobileMe? In my case, when I publish my site - and I made just little changes - iWeb publish ALL the pages.
I early had this same problem, this spring, and it was a MobileMe problem; Apple just made a little update to the server and it was ok.
    I'm using iWeb'09
    Thanks

With a lot of media content have you considered other ways of adding movies or audio tracks that only require you uploading those file manually once and then linking to them. For movies this demo page has one possible method: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window. This demo page has 7 movies added that way. They don't load until the play button is selected. PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes
For audio you can use flash players or a flash jutebox. Roddy's site, iWeb for Musicians, has examples and how-to's for both. See the following pages: Music Players and the following 3 pages after it. See the Next Page button at the bottom.
I've got a couple of flash players on my demo page: Music Players.
There are many alternatives to having to load all the media each time you republish.

  • HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR WEBSITE ..FROM IWEB ..WHEN I USE TO USE MOBILE ME .. BUT NOW THERE IS NO MOBILE ME BECAUSE OF ICLOUD, AND ICLOUD DOESN'T SUPPORT IWEB PUBLISHING?

HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR WEBSITE ..FROM IWEB ..WHEN I USE TO USE MOBILE ME .. BUT NOW THERE IS NO MOBILE ME BECAUSE OF ICLOUD, AND ICLOUD DOESN'T SUPPORT IWEB PUBLISHING?

When MobileMe goes down the drain, you will need to move your website to standard hosting. Depending on your site size, I recommend A Small Orange, as the Tiny hosting plan they have is big enough for most iWeb sites and much cheaper then shelling out $6 a month for most of the other big names, and if you check out their forum, several of the members have coupon codes in thier signatures. Also, their customer service is great and very fast in getting back to you.
To upload, I publish the iWeb site to a folder, then using Cyberduck upload it to the host. Cyberduck beats iWeb's FTP uploader because Cyberduck only replaces updated pages, instead of uploading the entire site.
    I hope this helps!

  • IE Scolling/Lag issues with IWeb Published Site

Has anyone had any issues with scrolling/lag with Internet Explorer on an iWeb published site? I have a site that runs great on Firefox and safari but terrible on Internet Explorer. I'm thinking it may be the template/design i used?
Anyone every seen this? Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    JC

I've only ever used the Modern Frame, so I can't say if there would be a performance issue using a different template. I have about three pictures on each page.
I noticed on your site that you're using the "reflection" effect on some of your pictures. Just for the purpose of testing, perhaps you could try turning off that effect and then re-uploading your site to see if that is causing some of the problem? I believe the reflection is rendered using javascript code, which may be causing the poor performance in IE. If that does turn out to be the problem, you can decide whether it's worth it to keep the effect or not.
By the way, I don't get that same error message in IE when I open your Videos page. Maybe it's caused by a security setting in your IE being set at a more restrictive level?

  • .mac and iWeb Publishing

Recently I subscribed a .mac trial account because I wanted to try iWeb and iPhoto 6 Photocasting.
When I publish a webpage from iWeb to .Mac, it'll pop up the login window, asking me to login. I clicked the login button and i typed my .mac account information. I tried to publish again and the same thing happens (.Mac account said my password is valid)
When I select an album and share by photocasting in iPhoto, it says I haven't set up my account (again, I input info. in my .mac settings already).
What's going on? Trial account won't work with iLife?
But I can use my iDisk... that's so weird...
    What's wrong?
    GummyDancer
(I posted this in both iWeb, iPhoto and .Mac sections. Posted on .Mac section about 2 weeks ago)

This is strange. During the slow run of the iWeb publish, I pulled up network tools and did a traceroute. It very slowly did its thing and came up with the a route to idisk.mac.com. Shortly thereafter, iWeb suddenly started uploading at a reasonable (for iWeb) speed. Any idea if this could be related to my running of traceroute?
