IWeb random save issues
This last week has been very traumatic...
I am a hardened fan of iWeb and it has served me well. However, just lately I have noticed some rather bizarre and irritating behaviour.
After closing the programme and reopening, I notice work missing despite saving.
Even while working, I can work on a page, move to another for a wile only to return to find my recent changes are no longer there. Yes I save as I go and no I do not accidentally revert to saved.
In frustration I deleted my prefence file and this worked for a few days but now I am scared to close the program.
Has anyone else had this problem?
What would you suggest in my position where I have published the site but have hours of work that I could lose if I close the app and open again.
I use TimeMachine but I am guessing as it is not saving correctly, this will not help me?
All the best,
Mark
You would need to close iWeb, delete the cache and then relaunch to see if that will have any effect. Also reboot your Mac.
You won't be albe to keep iWeb open indefinitely and then when it does get closed for some reason you've lost more work than you will have lost now. Are you running Lion? If so then this may be of some help:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
The application also works with earlier systems.

Another Mavericks Random Restart issue...
I've seen lots of discussions about these issues, but nothing definitive that will simply fix our problems. For the last month I've been trying the various suggestions offered on these forums: turning off the Energy Saver stuff, auto logging in, etc, but still having intermittent random restart issues.
I called Apple this morning and went through these trouble shooting steps with their tech:
1) Reboot to Recovery Mode (cmd-r)
2) Disk First Aid to repair (success)
3) Disk First Aid to Verify Disk (no trouble found. Verified)
30 minutes after hanging up the phone, BAM. Random restart again. Seems like I'm always pressing a keyboard key or mouse clicking when this happens. No matter if it's the trackpad, the wireless Apple Mouse, a USB mouse, the built in keyboard, or my external Matias keyboard.
My next step is to appeal to the gear heads here for any assistance they can offer. Thanks in advance for any input you can provide. Here's my EtreCheck report and latest panic report:

Macbook Pro Late 2010 random graphic issues
Hi Apple Community,

Here is a picture of the issue. It happened in Chrome, Firefox and now iTunes. I have OS X 10.7.2.

StevenLuA short update:

Does the 1.1 Update offer any relief from the "random pause" issue?
My iPod is exhibiting the "random pause" issue and is going to the Apple Store this weekend. In the meantime I'm going to install the v1.1 update, but just wanted to get some feedback on whether this fixed the problem for anyone else?

Random scale issues on pixel art
I'm creating pixel art animations for an LED presentation. The video size and comp sizes are 96 pixels x 64 pixels. I created the pixel art in Illustrator at the same size. I started out by creating a 96x64 grid and then using the live paint to fill in each box to create the artwork.
In After Effects I start doing my animation but sometimes when something is scaled down, issues start occurring. For example, I have 2 black squares as eyes. Both are 1x1 pixels or a 1x1 box in illustrator. Once they are scaled in AE, one eye may be bigger than the other. Is there some sort of interpolation issue happening? One solution I have tried using is only using draft mode. That works the majority of the time to keep everything looking very pixelated except for when the random scale issues occur. To be more clear of what I am trying to do. I am creating an animation for a Christmas LED display. I created 20-50 pixel art assets at the 96x64 size. They may not have all been to the final scale I wanted them to be in my animation. I brought my assets into AE and began doing my thing by animating. The original goal was to create Christmas animations that were a little more advanced than some pixel art simply moving position across the screen and to try and create a story based on the songs that were playing.
In my particular example where I am having an issue. I created frosty the snowman and the animation is him moving his arm and tipping his top hat. I'm not animating his eyes at all which are just black squares. Although the eyes are the ones creating the issues. One eye is bigger than the other. When I look at the original Illustrator asset, the eyes are the same size. Currently, everything is 100% to scale and draft mode in enabled. If it weren't for the eyes, it would look just like the illustrator artwork. When draft mode is disabled, that is when edges are no longer crisp and there is some slight feathering around all of the edges. -
Frequent but random DNS issues
I have been experiencing frequent but random DNS issues that have been affecting my access to websites and above all email. The problem is that it comes and goes without any intervention on my part but when it becomes really bad I have found that changing the DNS server in the network settings tends to fix things immediately for a while until it starts up again a day or two later. Obviously this shouldn't be necessary and it's been happening now for several weeks.
At first I had problems with BT DNS and after hitting my head against a brick wall for a week or so was amazed that the problem cleared up as soon as I put in the Google DNS. Then yesterday I was having major hassles and I remembered the DNS trick so I tried Open DNS with no improvement but tried BT again and everything was immediately OK. Most of the time I've just been struggling along and waiting for things to improve.
In an effort to try and troubleshoot the email issues I contacted my webhost and ran a trace route which show *** hops immediately after listing the BT HomeHub rather than a clear path of progression that my webhost says may be related to an ICMP protocol block in the router but I'm still seeing this even if I temporarily disable the firewall on my homehub and computer.
I have spoken with various BT support staff and they clearly just don't understand the issues. I am sick of resetting the router and calling BT just to go through the same steps. On one call the support guy felt it was likely to be an issue with my router so I asked about them sending me a replacement and they won't do it.
After two years of headaches with non functioning YouView I've just about had it with BT. Does anybody have any suggestions how to fix these problems? This is what a traceroute looks like when trying to connect to BT.com

Random Connectivity Issues with Time Capsule
I am having random connectivity issues with my time capsule with my intel based iMac. I don't have any issues with my MacAir, iPads or iPhones... just the iMac. It shows a "good" connection but sometimes... TC won't be able to connect to run a backup or I can't get to the internet. It doesn't appear to be an internet problem as I can get to the internet on other devices. It appears to be a connection issue between the iMAC and the TC. Thoughts or suggestions?
Do a full reset of the iMac.. apparently after the latest Mountain Lion update it can cause issues. I have not needed to try this as I have not seen it myself but I track the treads very closely and this popped up.

Hello,
For my website, I am using Arial as my font. For some reason, only certain pages are having font issues once published. The published Arial fonts are changed to Times and also decreased in size.
I've been trying to figure out the cause, and it appears to occur when fonts are bold or underlined, but some times I have no issues and other times I can't avoid it.
I've tried deleting the pages and then starting with a blank page but the font issues keep re-occuring.
Anybody else experience this and is there a way to solve this?
Thank you in advance!
JeffThe first thing you need to establish is whether this problem is with iWeb or publishing.
To do this you need to publish to a local folder by clicking your website name at the top of the left column in the iWeb window and selecting that option on the publishing options page.
This will give you a folder of files and an index.html file. Double click the index file to launch your site in the browser and see if the errors are present. If they are, the problem is in iWeb. If they aren't, then you have a publishing problem.

Illustrator CS2 Save Issues - Random Hexadecimal Naming
Hello folks,
I have a weird one for you. I have a user running Illustrator CS2 on a Windows XP SP3 system and has recently developed strange issues when saving changes to existing AI documents of which he is the creator and owner.
When the user makes a change to the existing file that he has opened, if he goes to file and save, it creates a file with 7 hexadecimal characters followed by a tilde. If the document is then closed, the old file name is lost and the file only exists as the new Hex named file. If he makes another change, without closing the file, and hits Save again, it retains the original file name.
I have yet to uninstall and reinstall, because I wanted to see if there is a setting that has been thrown out of whack.
Please advise.
Thank You,
Jesse W.If you have not yet updated to 12.0.1, do so.
Are you saving to a network-accessed file server, and, if so, were any changes made to the system recently? In any event, it's best not to work directly on files across a network.
Finally, always try trashing prefs before resorting to an all-out uninstall/reinstall. (See FAQ #2.) -
IWeb random image generator javascript issue
This is the thread I'm curious about See below.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1552040
I followed these steps and nothing happened. I'm not quite sure if I did everything right. I dragged the images from my iPhoto albums onto the page, sized them, gave them a 0% opacity and laid them all on top of each other.
Then I pulled the HTML Snippet widget onto the page and entered the script as you posted. I entered my file names (only the last part instead of the full address: image.jpg) and sized the snippet.
Nothing happened. I noticed this was an older post. I'm currently using iWeb '09. Is there something different in the newer version??
Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!I've now been sitting looking for this for a while. I don't seem to be able to get it to work.
Do I need to host to a folder first and then to the FTP server after?
I don't seen to be able to find the new page (TEST PAGE) in the folder I used to publish the site to before I went online. Tried searching for it in finder but I don't get any results on (TESTPAGEfiles).
I can see what you are talking bout I only publish to a local folder but I want to publish via the FTP option in iWeb.
Thank you very much for helping me -
When I open iweb I get a pop up window which tells me that there's a missing font CourierNewPSMT
Could someone tell me how to get rid of it, and it only happens in Freestyle template
I couldn't find CourierNewPSMT font anywhereHi,
I suddenly started getting messages in iWeb that said the Font "ArialMT" is substituted for the missing font "Arial".. But it was only happening on new pages I had created.. Can't say what had changed much on my system for this to occur.. But had me baffled because FontBook HAD Arial and NO ArialMT..
Anyway to cut a long story short.. I didn't want Arial as the font anyway as we're changing over to Verdana.. It didn't matter if I selected all on the webpage and changed it all to Verdana, i'd still get the error message regarding ArialMT and Arial..
So my fix was to navigate to: ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
1. Copy the file "Domain" somewhere else as a backup (desktop is good)
2. Right click on the "Domain" file inside ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ and Show Package Contents
Now this is where many people say open index.xml.gz and look for the problem fonts.. Well in my experience index.xml doesn't have any code regarding fonts.. SO another folder caught my attention inside "Domain" called "domain-0B29016B-4545-4DC4-9DDB-74AA1E25AJ34.. If you have this folder it will probably have a different string of letters and numbers to mine..
3. Go into your "domain-xxx etc" folder and navigate down to the first compressed xml file you can fint.. I had like 30 because I have almost 30 blog type pages in my site (just the way its designed I guess).. Anyway if you uncompress the .xml.gz file you've found and open that in text edit you'll probably be able to find font information in there.
As I had many to have to find and replace on I found it easier, to select all the .gz files and open them all together which mass uncompressed them in their relative locations.. Then I had to go through and delete the original .gz files otherwise iWeb won't save and publish the code changes you make. In otherwords, you need to have ONLY .xml files left over and iWeb will recompress them when you save in iWeb next.. I also used dreamweaver to mass find and replace the code, but textedit can do it one by one.
Hope this helps anyone having this issue..
I know if I went and made a brand new page in iWeb it will get this font issue again on the new page.. So my next task is to find the original template files and change the font instances in it so new pages don't cause headaches.. -
Podcast / iWeb 08 update issue
I just recently got into podcasting. I have been using Garageband to create and then send to iWeb. I was using iWeb 06 until just recently. I updated to iWeb 08.
In iWeb 06, the podcast showed up in iTunes and you were able to subscribe to it. However, since updating to 08, iTunes can no longer find the podcast. It claims the rss could not be found on the server. Is this because of the update to 08? I noticed a slight change to my website name. Is this the issue?
If so, how do I correct this? Can I just resubmit my entire podcast to iTunes for approval and start all over?
Any help is appreciated.
My podcast is located at: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=321929259OK, I'll try to unravel this: but I should make clear that I'm running on a certain amount of guesswork here and I can't promise the solution I suggest will work. Give it a try and let me know.
I'm not familiar with iWeb 06, but I suspect that what has happened is that it used a different folder layout: when you upgraded to 08 it changed to the newer folder layout, leaving a redirect from the old address: however there isn't a redirect for the podcast feed (and even if there was it wouldn't work in iTunes) so it's effectively sabotaged you. Nice.
iTunes thinks your feed is at
http://rss.me.com/markandjill/iWeb/SW Miniverse/Star Wars Miniverse/rss.xml
In fact is is now at
http://web.me.com/markandjill/SWMiniverse/Star_WarsMiniverse/rss.xml
What you need to do is to persuade iTunes to change to the new feed. Please read these instructions carefully and carry them out to the letter.
Open your iDisk, and navigate to the Web/Sites/SWMiniverse/Star_WarsMiniverse folder. Look for a file called 'rss.xml' and download it to your desktop.
Drag this file to the TextEdit icon in your Dock (or in the applications folder). You will see your feed. Somewhere in the top few lines - it doesn't matter exactly where as long as it's before the first 'item' tag - add this extra line:
<itunes:new-feed-url>http://web.me.com/markandjill/SWMiniverse/Star_WarsMiniverse/rss.xml</itunes:new-feed-url>
(be careful that you don't get a line return in the middle of this - you might get one in your browser display).
Now choose 'save as' and save this as rss.xml - TextEdit will suggest you make this .rss.xml.txt, decline this offer. Make sure the file is called rss.xml and is a plain text file.
Now the tricky bit.
Open your iDisk and try to navigate to the Web/Sites/iWeb/SW Miniverse/Star Wars Miniverse folder. If it doesn't exist you will need to create the new folders as appropriate. Upload the rss.xml file you created there.
Now to check whether this has worked.
Go to the iTunes Store page for your podcast. Click the subscribe button and go to 'Podcasts' in the sidebar.
If it's recognized this feed you should see the episodes listed when you click the disclosure triangle. On the top line - the podcast title - at the right you will see a little 'i' button: click this and you will see the feed address - it should read
http://rss.me.com/markandjill/iWeb/SW%20Miniverse/Star%20Wars%20Miniverse/rss.xm l
(strictly you shouldn't have spaces in file or folder names which is why they are replaced with %20).
If all this is the case you should be good to go: eventually iTunes will update to the correct feed - you should leave the feed you just uploaded there until it does, and it might take a fortnight. You can check by clicking on the 'i' button as before and seeing whether the correct feed URL is displayed.
I'm making assumptions about the way iWeb 06 behaves: if they aren't correct this may not work. If it doesn't please post back and we'll explore another avenue. -
Doe anyone know about a fix for the Droid Eris speed dial issue. After the software update, I was re entering my speed dial contacts but info wont save. I can select a number and a slot thats marked available but when I hit save it doesnt.
Lovebug1018 wrote:
I also had this problem and it seems that by doing a factory data reset (once the upgrade is installed), they work again. I also contacted my local Verizon store and they didn't even realize it was a problem.
Just make sure you back everything up with your preferred method and then after the factory reset, re-sync your phone.
Hopefully this will also solve your problem.
Maybe I'm dumb, I've done a bit with my Droid Eris, but I have no clue how to back up the phone (especially my apps, god forbid I would have to re-download all of those) I'm sure my phone could use a hard reset, I seem to have a problem that my phone randomly turns its sounds off, i.e.. no sound when phone rings, can't hear peoples voice and vice-versa. The only way I've been able to solve that problem as of yet is just to power off and back on again.
My phone needs the help of Jesus himself! Or just someone who knows what their doing a little better than myself. -
Mid 2009 13.3" Macbook Pro random freezing issue
Hi all,
I had a 2009 13.3" Unibody Macbook and last week purchased a 13.3" Macbook Pro. I had installed 4GB of RAM in the MB myself, and it had worked fine for the month I owned it.
I backed up my MB with an external USB hard drive using Time machine, restored from this backup on my MBP and moved the 4GB RAM over.
When using the MBP I get random freezes lasting between 1 and 3 seconds, occuring every 5 to 30 minutes.
Could someone please advise a good way to diagnose this problem further? I am guessing it is not the RAM as it worked fine whilst in the MB.I have an update!
I made an appointment with a local Apple Genius Bar and talked to a technian. He said it was neither the RAM nor the Hard Drive at fault.
His only thoughts were that a software issue was the root cause. I have been doing some serious investigating this morning and figured it out. Viewing system.log in Console shows:
SMS::infiniteIntTimerEventHandler ERROR: we have infinite interrupts, disabling
At exactly 5 minute intervals. These correlate with the freezes (to the second).
SMS refers to the Apple Sudden Motion Sensor. I disabled this by doing "sudo pmset -a sms 0" in Terminal, rebooted and everything is fine.
I have no idea why the SMS thinks the Macbook is falling every 5 minutes, but when it occures the hard drive heads are locked down to prevent damage, which is a perfect reason as to why iTunes would crash but Spotify (streaming internet music) does not.
Problem solved!
Edit:
In reply to some questions posted by other members (thank you by the way).
I did install EFI 1.7 update. I did not use the Migration assistance. At some point I will do a fresh install then pick and choose parts from a backup rather than using a full Time Machine Restore. This could still have been the root cause of the issue, but it is hard to tell.
Thanks guys!
