IWeb, rapidweaver & .mac account question

It has been impossible for me to to update my webpage since the beginning of January (I managed to pull some files from a folder into iDisk but tried again today but it hasn't worked.) I have been thinking about building a new site in RapidWeaver and uploading it to my .Mac address. Will this erase my current site? I ask because iWeb is in the url title http://web.mac.com/chrispinchen/iWeb/slow_Spain/Blank.html
and I guess that if I upload from RW it would create a different url?

As far as I know RW still publishes the pages in the Sites (HomePage) folder. You can enter a pathname to the correct location.
To publish the page to the iWeb folder, or any other location, you have to export the site.
A nice feature of RW is that you can export changes only, instead of the whole Site.

  • IWeb, rapidweaver & .mac question

Given that I just cannot update my website nor publish to a folder (been trying since 9th Jan & just get the same unknown error message and nothing in these forums has addressed the problem) I'm considering re-doing my site with rapidweaver (I prefer iWeb, but if just doesn't work?).
Does anyone know if I publish to my .Mac account the new site will have the same URL? I really just use the site to publish my podcasts and I'm trying to avoid the hassle of having to set up a new feed etc. Also I have my own URL which is pointed to my .Mac account. Any ideas anyone? Or any suggestions on how I can fix iWeb?

  • Multiple domain names for iWeb on .mac account

I've managed to get the iWeb site I created uploaded onto a domain name i created (eg www.abc123.com). I had to change the domain name on my .mac account. The thing is it only allows you to enter 1 domain name. Now I have purchased 3 domain names, one for myself, one for my business and one for my mothers business. Is there a way round this because at the moment I can't get round it. Thanks.

    Hi Ben,
If using .Mac hosting and other hostings as well you can have multiple domains pointed to different sites so that each site will have yourdomain.com. However on .Mac you can have only one CNAME, the other personal domains should be WebForward or WebForward with cloaking.
    - WebForward: after you typed yourdomain.com in the browser you get forwarded to web.mac.com/username/ and web.mac.com/username/ will display in the browser
    - WebForward with Cloaking (also called masking): after you typed yourdomain.com in the browser yourdomain.com will display in the browser and don't change while people browse through your website
    - CNAME yourdomain.com will display instead of web.mac.com/username/ and while browsing through your website it will look like yourdomain.com/sitename/nameofpagepeoplelookatnow.html
If you're using Godaddy this is how to setup WebForwarding

  • .mac account questions

Here is what i want to do.
I want my .mac account to have emails go to the iphone when my computer is not on. I want to be able to delete the message from the phone and still receive it on my computer when i log in. I thought i set it not to delete the message from the server when i delete from the phone, but i guess i am doing something wrong. Any help?

With an IMAP account, deleting a message means removing it from the server for good. Once that happens, the message is lost for all the devices that share the account. This is a good thing.
But my question is, why exactly would you want to delete message on your iphone?
Instead keep multiple IMAP mailboxes, and if you want to reduce clutter in your main inbox, just MOVE the message to a different mailbox. Don't worry about storing the messages, they live on the server.

  • Can you only use Iweb with .mac accounts?

Can I use iweb to build a webiste for a domain I already own with web hosting?

You need another app (specifically, an FTP client). iWeb can only publish directly to .mac or a folder on your computer. There are various FTP programs, but I'm really partial to Transmit 'cause it's really easy and kicks you-know-what.
Quote from the makers of Transmit: "And yes, Transmit 3 is the perfect FTP companion to iWeb."
And no, I don't work for Panic, Inc.

  • .MAC account credentials validation failed

I have never had trouble publishing before and now I get this error
".Mac account credentials validation failed for account ksporterproductions."
    I haven't changed anything - suggestions??
    iweb version 1.1.2 2006

I have exactly the same problem when trying to publish with iWeb 06- .Mac account credentials validtion failed- or iWeb opens the .Mac pane from system preferences, I insert password & username, press return, it says password valid, and nothing happens. I return to iWeb, and publishing activity has stopped.
This is clearly related to MobileMe switch.
This is a total pain- get it sorted Apple, or at lest reply to tech support e-mails.

  • HT1338 iWeb Google AdSense interfacing. Does it work without a .mac account?

I'm trying to put in the Google AdSense on my web page but the program is not recognizing my account. Is this and other widgets not available simply because I am not paying for the .mac account?

    1. Do I charge people extra and buy them a .mac
account so they have their own idisk even though they
won't need the e-mail and other .mac features?
I don't think this would be necessary...
    2. Can I create a website for them on iweb, buy a
domain name for them through godaddy or somewhere,
publish to a folder, and then upload to a separate
    hosting space...
Yes. The best thing for you to do would be to get familiar with a program called "iWebSites" ( http://mistergregg.com/cocoadrillosoftware/ ). I'm sure you don't want your personal .Mac website to be mixed in with your client websites. In addition, you will appreciate the ability to be able to publish your various websites INDEPENDENTLY of one another, so that you only publish your personal site to your .Mac account and your client sites individually as needed. iWebSites helps you to create separate Domain files for iWeb so that each website can "live" in its own space and be edited and published separate from every other site.
But yes, as far as your client websites go, prepare for a new site with iWebSites, design the site in iWeb, then "Publish to Folder" and then register and upload to the appropriate domain name server directory. I think this would be a slick way to run your business....full service, right?
Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • One .Mac account, 2 iWeb Sites, 2 Computers.

Ok, I know a lot of questions have been asked about how to manage multiple sites, but I can't seem to find any information about 2 people sharing one .Mac account.
My husband and I share a .Mac account. We each have our own Apple laptops. We each want our own iWeb site.
Everytime I create a site, it takes over the one that he already created from HIS computer, and vice versa.
There doesn't seem to be a way for both of us to have our own sites on one account from 2 separate computers. SO FRUSTRATING.
Any help would be great, and try to leave as much technical jargon out of it. I'm a self-proclaimed idiot when it comes to computers.
    Thanks, everyone.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Neisha,
Another way to achieve what mp is talking about is for you and your husband to each create a one page "site" in iWeb and move it to the top of your site organizer. Put links (image or text) on that page to direct those who visit your short url to the correct site. I would recommend that you each have slightly different names for this site and page.
You can see an example of what I'm talking about http://web.mac.com/hoovmoss/iWeb/" target="_blank">here.
If you plan on building additional sites and splitting the domain files on one or more of the laptops to do it, though, you are probably better off using the method that mp suggested above.
I've been keeping a sites index "site" at the top of each domain file (I have one for each site on the index page), but I'm beginning to find that inconvenient, as I plan on adding at least one more site. Someday soon I'll create a domain file containing only a sites index and then manually replace the index.html file in my idisk as necessary to keep the site index linked to my short url.
If this is more confusing than helpful, let me know and I'll see if I can be a little clearer.

  • Is .Mac account the best hosting for iWeb sites ?

I couldn't put too many questions into my earlier posting.
My question: is .Mac account the best option to host websites created with iWeb ?
if it doesn't matter, what would a recommended webhost ?
    thanks!

If you don’t publish your site to .Mac, these iWeb features are unavailable:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ Enhanced slideshows

  • .Mac account space available for iWeb

How can you tell how much unused space you have in your .mac account?
What I want to know is this:
    1) If you try to publish an iWeb space to your .mac account, and there is not enough room, does .mac tell you?
    2) If there an easy way to check to see exactly how much space is available?
    Thanks,
    Hal

<<to view how much of your iDisk you are using, go to :
    system preferences
    .Mac
    iDisk>>
    Thanks, got that.
Now, a second, related question. If I got to web to my .Mac account, I can get to a page 'Storage Settings', which shows the same information. How much is allocated, how much is in use. And happily the two agree.
But where does the info on the .Mac account storage settings come from? Is this something Apple is keeping track of?
The info in System Pref>.Mac>iDisk is actually on my computer, I think. but this info from the .Mac acccount is, presumably, from an Apple server, I think.
    I hope.
Can someone clear this up for me?
    Thanks,
    Hal

  • .Mac Account and iWeb

How many websites can you create with a single .Mac account? I would like to get one, but my dad has a construction web site already. I'm trying to convince him that it would be cheaper to switch to a .Mac account and let me maintain his website on iWeb, but I don't want to eliminate myself from ever having a website myself because I made his website on my .Mac acccount.
    Thanks,
    Jake

Hey there. As I presently know, you can have more Web Sites than you can handle with iWeb and even one .Mac account. I am currently maintaining four separate sites. Add to that is the fact that you can maintain even more sites by using your .Mac HomePage area. In HomePage some options (blog comments, counters etc.) are not available but the Advanced page options can allow even more flexibility. Hope this helps!
    Cheers!

  • How can i use iweb to work on both of my .mac accounts?

I have 2 seprate .mac accounts, one is for my personal, other is more work based.
How can I create on both with the same computer?
I have created a different user on my mac, and then logged in on that name , which has worked, however I would like to know if there is a easier /shorter way to accomplish this .
    Thanks

you need to split your domains for that. see these links:

  • How do I create two iWeb sites using a single .Mac account?

I would like to create two distinct sites/URLs using iWeb and a single — not a family — .Mac account. Is this possible? If so, what are the basic steps?
When I read related forum posts, it would seem to me that one site would overwrite the other site when I publish. Yes or no?
    iBook 1.2 mhz, G4   Mac OS X (10.3.6)
    iBook 1.2 mhz, G4   Mac OS X (10.3.6)
    iBook 1.2 mhz, G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   iLife 06

I would like to create two distinct sites/URLs using
iWeb and a single — not a family — .Mac account. Is
this possible? If so, what are the basic steps?
If you just do the obvious and use File > New Site in iWeb, you do create two distinct sites with different urls. However, you cannot exactly duplicate page names in the sites or publish changes in one without publishing changes in the other. The short default url web.mac.com/username/iWeb normally goes to the top site on the list within iWeb.
If you create two sites with distinct names in different accounts on your machine, they should not overwrite each other, and they should also have distinct urls. However I think that the
index.html file which tells browsers what to do with the default short url web.mac.com/username/iWeb may get confused, so that deleting that or modifying it manually might be desirable.

  • IWEB does not delete old pages on  .mac account when changes are made.

I deleted one "movie" page and added a different one via IWEB. I changed the name of the site. I saved it to a folder on my drive and updated the .mac account.
When I checked my .mac folder, WEB>Sites>IWeb contains a folder with the new site name. That folder contains each of the pages and associated folders, html's.
However, using a previously saved .html, I can still access the old named web site which contains the un-desired deleted page. That deleted page and the entire site funtion as though it was never removed.
This "removed site" and all its pages does not appear any place in the .mac account's file listings.
What is happening that I can't remove a page using the procedure listed in the IWEB documentation?
    Anyone have any thoughts?

However, using a previously saved .html, I can still
access the old named web site which contains the
    un-desired deleted page.
Was the old site also produced by iWeb? Why are you "saving to a folder on your drive and updating the .mac account" instead of publishing directly into .Mac?
    That deleted page and the
entire site funtion as though it was never removed.
This "removed site" and all its pages does not appear
any place in the .mac account's file listings.
Are you sure they are not in the Sites folder used by Homepage? What is the url?
If they really are not anywhere on your iDisk, then perhaps they are being cached somewhere and will eventually disappear.

  • How to publish from iWeb to two different .mac accounts

my household has two separate .macs account and we want to publish from iWeb to the two different accounts which I cannot figure out. thanks

I discovered I could duplicate Domain.sites2 (~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2). I named one "Domain de.sites2", and the other "Domain daru.sites2". Then I opened daru's site and deleted de's, then I opened de's and deleted daru's, and I have two separate sites (with aliases in the dock) that I presume I'll be able to upload separately. Once I get .Mac sub groups created...
If it works, it saves the hassle of creating other user accounts, since only my wife and I use the computer. Right now, .Mac is telling me I can't create a sub account in my wife's name because she already has a .Mac ID (and a two month free trial account she had to agree to, to join the group) for a group site I manage. I don't think she ought to be required to have a separate identity every time she logs into .Mac.
