IWeb retired and replaced by Gallery in MobileMe?

After five days of iWeb stress I finally found that MobileMe has a picture hosting option which I am going to trial. Maybe Apple has disabled iWeb but has not let us know.

Well, why have I not been able to invoke it, in spite of several reinstalls of system software, updating everything including anti-virus, running Disk Utility, etc?
Ewan ~ One of the two threads I suggested four days ago suggested a specific fix and at the end explains:
"it looks like this file, the index/xml.gz file gets corrupted and prevents iWeb from opening or causes it to crash."
...But you haven't mentioned trying the step-by-step fix in _that thread_.

My posts have a number of views but no useful answers, so I am counting the viewers as mainly people who are looking for an answer, in vain.
People looking for an answer to the same problem as yours would likely take the opportunity to post a +"me too!"+ on your thread. ...This hasn't happened. The likely explanation for so many views of your thread is that many people simply read the threads in order to learn. Here's an example posted on this forum:
"I have learned many things about iWeb 1.1.2 just from reading your replies."
And simply editing a post (as I often do) will also increment the number of views.

No. If you don't have the album you originally used to create the galleries you can do so by dragging the photos from each gallery to a new, empty album. Then when you find the photo sharing site/option you have decided on  you can easily upload each album to the site.
Another option is to obtain a hosting service and create iWeb photo pages for each album and future albums similar to this photo page in one of my demo sites: iPhoto Book as an iWeb Slideshow.  Or you can use the iWeb album page and have an album for each  iPhoto album on it like on this demo page: Page-7 .

  • Can I publish iWeb sites and Gallery albums in one place?

My Gallery has 66 personal photo albums of simple events (each photo with a caption). Using iWeb, I also have created a multi-page personal website of photos for each of 16 complex events (each site has a welcome page followed by 3-5 photo pages, and all pages have a few sentences of introduction). Now that my beloved Apple has spurned me, I'm hoping to get even, sort of, and post everything--all my photo albums and all my photo websites--in one place. This requires more complexity than I've seen in hunting among suggested replacments for iWeb or Gallery.
In my drooling ignorance, I can imagine a website that has a few levels. On one level are key photos for all gallery albums PLUS key photos for all websites. A user clicks on the main photo of an album or website, and it opens either an album's photos (the current gallery way) or a site's welcome page.
As best I can tell, I want too much. As promising as a site like Zangzing appears, it and others are limited to a single level of photos or to some six interior pages.
Level one shows the key photo for each gallery album AND a key , and has a grand welcome page with linkClick on an album photo and it opens all the album's photos. Click on a website photo, and it opens to s that read, say, "Albums 2000-2005," "Albums 2006-2012," "Websites 2000-2005," Websites 2006-2012." At the next level, each album and each website appears . A Even better would be page links that intersperse albums and websites in chronological order. A user click on the main photo of an album or website and it opens either
lists albums in, say, five-year clusters an  for --, perhaps one page for lots of links, maybe albums by years and websites by years.
albums top-level row of albums (like Gallery) with the websites peppered among them. Click on a website photo

PLEASE IGNORE ANY EARLIER VERSION. IT'S A DRAFT OF THE FOLLOWING QUESTION . . .
My Gallery has 66 personal photo albums of simple events (each photo has a caption). In my drooling ignorance, I can imagine a master website that has a few levels. On one level are key photos for all gallery albums PLUS key photos for all websites. When a user clicks on the key photo of an album or website, it opens either an album's photos (the current Gallery way) or a site's welcome page.
As best I can tell, I want too much. As promising as a site like ZangZing seems, it and others seem limited to a single level of photos or to some six interior pages (far fewer than my 16 iWeb sites). Maybe I could create a grand entrance page that has links that read, say, "Albums 2000-2005," "Albums 2006-2012," "Websites 2000-2005," Websites 2006-2012." But then I'd be burying the albums and sites themselves at lower levels.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Delete and replace video in iweb

I have iWeb 3.0.4 (iWeb '11 I think). I want to delete a YouTube video on my video page and replace with another YouTube video, or simply call up the YT widget and change the URL address to the video I want. I can't seem to delete the old video and when I drag over the widget to the video and type in the new URL it simply overlays my new video on top of the old one so I have 2 videos in that spot. Is there a relatively simple solution to make this replacement of one video with another?

First click on the existing video and use the Delete key.  Then add the new HTML snippet with the YouTube embed code.

  • Slide Shows in iLife, iPhoto, iWeb  '08 and Web Gallery

I have iLife '08 abd thus iWeb '08 and developed my website in 2006 using iWeb '06. I also belong to .Mac and therefore have access to that Web Gallery or .Mac Gallery (unsure which name it has). I like the newer slide shows/carousels that are newly available and would like to know whether I can make such slide shows and place such slide shows in my iWeb website.
I realize that another alternative is to make a slide show and put it in the Web Gallery and access it in my website via a URL pointing to the slidehow.
Is it true that ALL OF THE VARIATIONS OF SLIDE SHOWS are created in iPhoto '08? If so, then I guess if I make the slideshows there, I can decide where I want to place them (in my website or in Web Gallery).

I have found an answer thanks to jaxjason in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1086973&tstart=0
Go to web gallery, find out the album ID that you need to delete.
    iDisk -> Web -> Sites -> _gallery
Delete the album ID of the albums that arn't in iphoto.
    Then resync the albums missing.

  • IWeb and SimpleViewer Pro gallery issues

    Hello all!
I have a simple viewer gallery (http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/) and I tried to upload the gallery on a page of my iweb site through IFRAME with this code:
<IFRAME SRC = "MY LINK" WIDTH="260px" HEIGHT="425px" FRAMEBORDER="0" --if "0" no border, otherwise "1" with border MARGINWIDTH ="0px" MARGINHEIGHT="0px" SCROLLING="no" --"no" no scrolling bar, "yes" show always, "auto" showed when need > Your browser does not support IFRAME </IFRAME>
the result is that iWeb crashes even before saving the html snippet, so I have to restart everything and nothing changes. So as soon as i paste the code in the html snippet iWeb stops responding.
    Any help please?
    Thank you,
    Ilenia

    Try the following:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.
    If that doesn't help continue:
6 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
7 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
8 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
9 - move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
10 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • Is there a "search and replace" feature on IWeb?

After building my entire site from scratch, I have learned many, many things that will help it load faster, etc.
This will involve redesigning buttons, and taking some photos and manipulating them in Photoshop (rather than adding borders in IWeb, etc.), etc.
As I have several pages that include the same items, is there a way that I can find all of the same pictures and replace them with my new edited version with a "search and replace" type of function? Or do I have to go to each page, and delete the old and add the new?
Thanks for all the help -
    Kim

As I have several pages that include the same items, is there a way that I can find all of the same pictures and replace them with my new edited version
You'll have to copy an paste the new items in each page.
I suppose you could name the new item the same as the old and replace it in the individual page folder. I think that would save you from having to edit any html pages. But if you're going to make other edits to the page which require you to open it in iWeb you might as well replace it that way. It will have to be the same pixel size as the previous file was.
I did a file replacement for the last three tutorials button in my Old Toad's Tutorials site. Worked like a charm until I next publish.
*HOWEVER, if you republish the site or page the files will be replaced with the originals. So unless you're not going to change it again you'll have to do the change in iWeb so they will remain changed.*
Just changed that page from within iWeb so the demo of the process is not available any more.

  • Saved and published updated website, changes not saved in iweb.  Have lost all work in iweb but correct site is on the internet.  Can I retrieve site from internet and replace to iweb so can continue updating?

Just finished updating web site, saved and published.  Showed up on the internet finr, went back to do a few tweeks and all my days work is gone!  Fine on the net gone in iweb!  I don't want to loose the days work.  Is there any way to get the website from the internet and stuffit back into iweb, without redoing all the work?  Why didn't it save?  Wjat can I do to prevent this happening again?  Where did I go wrong?

Publish you site to a folder on your hard drive and open it locally with your browser.  Check to see if the site is all there.  If not
    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
launch iWeb and publish to the folder again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.

  • IWeb - looking for replacements for 'blog' & 'photos'

With a deep Sigh..., I am finally facing up to the fact that I must move my iWeb Websites to another hosting sight and deal with the loss of the intergrated blog & photo pages that come with iWeb.  I kept hoping for a miracle but now I must get on with it.  I would be grateful for advice from those who have dealt with this issue already.
My biggest concern is finding suitable replacements for the blog and photo galleries that can be embedded into iWeb having a matching 'look and feel'.
I have developed many robust (well of 50) websites with iWeb and they are active websites.   The websites have:
Custom layouts (i.e. not using the suppled defalut template)
Blog pages (used as 'News' entries)
    Photo pages
    iMovie
    HTML Snipits
Many have been designed for use with charity events and recieve quite a bit of traffic (see stats below) before and during the event.
As for the hosting - we will use GoDaddy or other Domain Provide with Hosting services.   We have already moved some of the more less complicated websites over.
I love iWeb (I know it has it's faults and I have probably pushed it to it's limits but it has handled it well).  I have tried looking at other products like Rapidweaver & Freeway Pro (Dreamweaver would be out of the question for me as I'm not a programmer - I can deal with some basic html code for snippets and such - but that's my limit).  My partner has begun looking at Wordpress.  However, the biggest drawback from what I've seen from these other products is that I can't duplicate the freedom and ease of designing a template/layout the way I want it.  I have tried to duplicate a website I have done in iWeb and I simply can't do it with these other products (at least without a great deal of work - if at all).
So, I wish to continue using iWeb for the main website desgin but desparately need to find good replacements for the blog and photo galleries to move over my existing websites.
    Please HELP!
This is my 1st time up on the forums so I do apologise if this has been dealt with before.  In my searches - I just haven't really found an answer which is why I'm submitting this question.
    Many thanks, MichelleSC
P.S. I have been an Apple user since Apple began and have always raved about their products.   This is the 1st time I have been frustration with Apple.  I really wish they would continue to develop iWeb and keep Mobileme.

Do you have visitors post comments to your blog or it is one the only includes your entries?  If it's the atter then you can continue to use the iWeb blog. If you currently have visitors comment on the entires you will have to move to a new blogging system, one of those suggested by Ethmoid and Jeff.
As for photo albums I've just run across a new site called ZangZig which offers albums similar to MobileMe galleries with most of it's features plus one that MMe didn't have.  The capability of selling your photos.
One convenient feature of it is that it can move/copy photos from your existing MMe galleries as well as your iPhoto library and other sources:
As for for iWeb can do after MMe is gone read the following:
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.  There's a link in the tutorial to download the file that one needs to be edited and replaced in existing slideshows and in the iWeb application for future slideshows. Once replaced in the application it's back to life as usual for iWeb.

i have iweb 2 and want to upgrade to 3. how?

You need to purchase iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: iLife '11 - Apple Store (U.S.). iWeb has been discontinued so as long as supplies last you can get it.
It is now confirmed that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:

I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.

How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.

  • Aperture (2.1.1.) - iWeb cannot find the Aperture Gallery in the web widget

    Hi all,
I think this is not really related to MobileMe's current problems, as it shows alright on the web:
If I publish a Web Album to MM (and I think it was the same issue with .Mac but am not sure), everythings working fine upload wise.
Only if I want to include the Web Album in iWeb with the help of the Web-Widget tool, Aperture Web-Galleries do not show up.
iPhoto works fine, what's published to MM there shows up on the iWeb widget menu (if not password protected)
Does anyone experience the same? is that 'normal' or is there a work-around?
    Cheers
    Greg

The workaround for this is to turn your Aperture galleries ( ie, albums) into iPhoto galleries, at least temporarily. You can do this online, once you are logged into your actual .me account (http://www.me.com/gallery/#home). Select an album, choose the Settings button at the top of the page ( a button with "light switches" graphic on it ), change the "Syncs with:" option to iPhoto and Ok. Then launch iWeb and you should find the gallery listed there. Once you publish the site, you should be ok to set the album settings back to Aperture. +(Haven't double checked this yet ...)+
    *Note 1:*
If you don't see the Syncs with option, then hold down the 'shift' key when you click on the Settings.
    Then it will show.
    *Note 2:*
Folks are confusing the web gallery albums that are showing up in the intra-app media browser (just images are accessed here) and the insert gallery menu item (entire gallery inserted). Easy mistake but they are different functions.

  • IWeb 09 and Aperture

Does anyone know if iWeb 09 fixed the problem with Aperture generated MobileMe Photo Galleries not showing up when you want to insert a MobileMe Gallery widget on your web page? In iWeb 08 only iPhoto MobileMe Galleries showed up, which is a pain since I only use Aperture for my photos.

I use iWeb09 and Aperture2. I could use the gallery widget to link to galleries created with Aperture but only for some of them. One is not to be seen from iWeb.
I followed the suggestion: checked that Gallery are all in the right place on iDisk/../.. deleted iWeb plist and repaired permissions... no change.
If you have a look to my page www.pavesi.net and follow the link to "PHOTOS OF OUR HOLIDAYS" you will find the link to 3 gallery of Berlin and under them the link "QUI" to the gallery which I cannot see from iWeb...
Question : can Aperture publish Web pages to web.me.com ??? It still displays the link to Homepage....wich will be discontinued.

  • Can other people upload pictures to my iweb site and other people comment or rate them? if so how?

can other people upload pictures to my iweb site and other people comment or rate them? if so how?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you use a MobileGallery from iPhoto to house your photos and videos you can set it up in the settings so visitors can upload items to the gallery via email.
You can them embed the gallery in an iWeb page like this: MobileMe Galleries and Quicktime Movies.
I've not tried emailing a photo to a gallery so can't comment on how well it works.
For photo pages or album pages in iWeb visitors can add comments and attachments, photos, which other visitors can view. How they are added I don't know. Here's what the iWeb Help says about that:
    +*About visitor comments and attachments*+
+If you publish your site to MobileMe, you can let visitors add comments and attach files (which other visitors can download) to blog, podcast, and photos pages. These comments and attachments are visible to anyone who visits your website. To prevent automated programs from posting spam to your site, anyone who posts a comment is first required to type a displayed group of characters.+
+Comments appear as soon as they’re posted, and you can delete a comment and its attachment at any time using iWeb or by visiting your site with any browser. You can also turn off comments to prevent new postings without affecting the comments already posted.+
+Comments and attachments are stored on your iDisk. Each comment can be a maximum of 32 kilobytes (KB), and each attachment can be up to 5 megabytes (MB).+
+IMPORTANT:Before posting anything to your website, make sure you own the copyright and other rights to what you or others are posting, or that you obtained all necessary permissions.+

  • [Forum FAQ] How to find and replace text strings in the shapes in Excel using Windows PowerShell

Windows PowerShell is a powerful command tool and we can use it for management and operations. In this article we introduce the detailed steps to use Windows PowerShell to find and replace test string in the
    shapes in Excel Object.
    Since the Excel.Application
is available for representing the entire Microsoft Excel application, we can invoke the relevant Properties and Methods to help us to
    interact with Excel document.
The figure below is an excel file:
    Figure 1.
You can use the PowerShell script below to list the text in the shapes and replace the text string to “text”:
    $text = “text1”,”text2”,”text3”,”text3”
    $Excel
    = New-Object -ComObject Excel.Application
    $Excel.visible = $true
    $Workbook
    = $Excel.workbooks.open("d:\shape.xlsx")
    #Open the excel file
    $Worksheet
    = $Workbook.Worksheets.Item("shapes")
    #Open the worksheet named "shapes"
    $shape = $Worksheet.Shapes
    # Get all the shapes
    $i=0
    # This number is used to replace the text in sequence as the variable “$text”
    Foreach ($sh in $shape){
    $sh.TextFrame.Characters().text
    # Get the textbox in the shape
    $sh.TextFrame.Characters().text =
    $text[$i++]
#Change the value of the textbox in the shape one by one
    $WorkBook.Save()
    #Save workbook in excel
    $WorkBook.Close()
    #Close workbook in excel
    [void]$excel.quit()
    #Quit Excel
Before invoking the methods and properties, we can use the cmdlet “Get-Member” to list the available methods.
Besides, we can also find the documents about these methods and properties in MSDN:
    Workbook.Worksheets Property (Excel):
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff835542(v=office.15).aspx
    Worksheet.Shapes Property:

    Shape.TextFrame Property:

    Characters.Text Property (Excel):

Thank you for the information, but does this thread really need to be stuck to the top of the forum?
