IWeb RSS icon in URL bar

Does anyone know how to remove the RSS feed icon that appears in the URL bar of a published website designed with iWeb?
I've unchecked the 'Allow visitors to subscibe' box on the photos page, that removes the hyperlink on the photos page, but the RSS icon button still appears in the URL bar.

this is hard coded in iweb, the only to remove it is post edit your photos page published code.
but I would not advice you to post-edit (not knowing who is your web host), because post editing will potentially cripple MMe feautres.

  • I want to Remove RSS icon from the address bar when I click on My SMF Forum

I have a SMF forum when I click on the login page I see an RSS icon in the right of the address bar next to a star.
The forum opens in an RSS to subscribe, which is stupid as it is not an RSS feed, it is a forum. I want to get rid of this and do not know how to do it.

This is a feature of firefox, although it may have been removed from firefox 4beta ( at least in default set up, no idea why). The appearance of the RSS icon within the location bar is intended to inform that RSS feeds are available from the site in use. You may note that this firefox forum we are using has such an icon displaying in the location bar, that is because feeds are available allowing you to track the threads, no doubt something similar happens with the SMF forum you mention.
If it is possible to remove the RSS icon from the location bar it will certainly not be straightforward, other than by upgrading to 4beta, and that is available now, and may be run whilst the stable version firefox 3.6 is still installed on your computer. (iirc there is an add-on available to add the rss icon to Fx4)
If a post answers your enquiry, you may wish to use the button alongside it to mark it as solved.

  • [suggestion]: reload page icon at the beginning of the url bar

    Greetings all,
I suggest to place the "reload page icon" at the beginning of the URL bar (and not at the end of it like done as far as Version 6.0 build 7536.25).
This way seems more coherent (to me):
    * not far away with the other page control (close/reduce/iconize)
    * not far away of any action if needed to type something like a new URL
    my 2 cents,
    lem

    For the Search Bar:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Back%20and%20forward%20or%20other%20toolbar%20items%20are%20missing#w_restoring-the-default-toolbar-set
If you don't see the Search bar after you RESTORE the Default Toolbar Set:
View > Toolbars > Customize and drag the SEARCH BAR to wherever you prefer.
    For Refresh Button:
It has been incorporated into the far right end of the Address Bar. When you load a page, it is a "Stop" button, when it finished loading, it turns into a "Reload" button.
If you want it to be somewhere else in the Toolbar, you can drag it out to wherever you want. If that doesn't work, try this:
View > Toolbars > Customize and drag the Refresh/Stop icon into the window, then drag it back out to wherever you prefer.

  • Date/time icon and other movable icons on menu bar cannot be loaded on startup, but it works if manually loaded

Strange things happened since my mbp 13' (MD-101) was upgraded to 10.8.4 ----------- time icon, battery icon, and language icon (these icons can be moved when held Command key and drag) cannot be loaded on startup, but they still can be loaded when you get into System Preferences and manually  turn them on, as well as iStat Menus
However, some other icons didn't bother, things like BetterTouchTool, NewsBar. They are immovable!! I guess it is the key factor that the icon is movable or not making the difference.
Someone please lend me a helping hand?
I've attached some pictures in order to make my situation easier to be understood.
these icons can't be loaded on my loggin in.
but they can be loaded manually
however, these icons will be loaded on startup
I've almost despaired to resolve it . Thanks for your help!

I have a similar issue. When the computer goes into "Hibernate" mode -- that is, it loses power while sleeping and it writes the contents of it's memory to disk in order to boot into that exact configuration when woken up -- many of my icons when Apple-Tab'ing to another application appear as static. They look like a slightly colorized version of the "static snow" you see when tuning into a station that doesn't exist on a UHF antenna television. Also, icons in Chrome such as web sites "favorite icons" or favicon.ico (the icons that appear in the URL bar and bookmarks) will be scrambled in the same fashion , at first , until the actual icon is loaded.
Between this, my menu bar and finder icons not displaying, and being unable to boot into safe mode, I'm getting quite ******. I have no idea what the **** is going on with my Macbook Pro. The issue of the scrambled icons actually existed prior to installing an SSD and doing a fresh install of Mountain Lion. I may end up throwing in the towl and re-installing the operating system but I'm sure SOMETHING will happen. It seems the latest update, 10.8.2, is absolute garbage.
What the ****, Apple? And I really don't want to take the computer to the morons at the Apple Store. They are not "geniuses" by any measure.

  • What do the globe and triangle with exclamation point mean on the URL bar and why do they sometimes change while surfing a page?

I have always about this, as I've seen these more than once along multiple versions of Firefox. I'm well aware that the lock means the site is 'verified' though I don't know exactly what that entails. More recently, I've noticed that many websites either have the lock or else the globe with the markings on it which says that the connection to the site in question is 'unencrypted', but I don't know what that means. Sometimes this will change between pages on the same website. What I find stranger is that sometimes a a single page on one site will go from the lock to the triangle with the exclamation point in it. Now from what I can tell, it means something similar to the globe, as they seem to both state the same basic thing, that the website doesn't supply identity information and the connection isn't encrypted. What I want to know is how and why this happens, and sometimes even while still on the same page. I've encountered this on three different versions of firefox. The 24 esr, 28.0, and version 34. (Not all on one computer, mind. Though I believe it's possible to have multiple instances of Firefox on the same machine as I know someone mentioned being able to do that on another thread and I'd love to know how that's done if anyone can answer it.) These versions of firefox were on 8.1, and two distinct versions of XP from two different machines. Is this an odd glitch, or is something else going on there and if so, how does one fix it? So far it's happened to me twice on my own computer, once on a fiction website, and as of tonight, once on youtube. On the former, the switch happened on a single page, while on Youtube it changed from one page on the search bar to the actual channel of something in question and back again. Closing out the tab and doing a quick clearing of history seemed to work fine on youtube. The fiction website, not so much, though I haven't seen the triangle thing come back again, as everything there seems to be the globe. So far anyway. However it has come up before on various computers in the past that I've used with various firefox versions, as I've said. Can anyone explain what this is and how to fix it if it is indeed a problem?

    ''jscher2000 [[#answer-707094|said]]''
    <blockquote>
The green padlock means your connection is HTTPS (encrypted) and the certificate identifies a particular site operator. Certificate issuers demand special verification for the Extended Validation (EVSSL) certificate that generates a green padlock.
The gray padlock means your connection is HTTPS (encrypted) but the certificate cannot establish the operator of the site one way or another. No special identification is required to get this certificate.
The exclamation point triangle symbols may indicate that the connection is partially encrypted -- some content is the page was sent over an open connection -- or recently it may indicate that the site uses such easily cracked encryption that you should treat it as providing no protection.
And the point of all this is?! Simply this: if your web traffic is ''not encrypted'', it can be read by others. That's why login pages and sites dealing in your personal or sensitive information should always show a padlock in the address bar. If it's not there, be concerned.
If a normally secure site suddenly shows a mixed content icon, try reloading the page (Ctrl+r or to re-request fresh copies of cached files use Ctrl+Shift+r).
    </blockquote>
As it happens, I have tried the refresh thing. It doesn't always work on sites where this sudden changeover occurs. The weird thing is that, again, this happens at random and I've seen it occur over multiple versions of firefox, past and present, so it's not just relegated to just the three main ones I have most recently seen it on.
Now what makes this even stranger is that I have seen a few pages on the fiction website (www.fimfiction.net to be specific) where the grey padlock at the very least shows up on a page, but then suddenly will go to the triangle. Not all of these pages have mixed content or even any content at all beyond simple text. A few have pictures or clickable links, but I usually avoid clicking on the links if I don't know and trust the website. More recently though, the near-entirety of the site has gone to the globe, when before it was the grey padlock. I think the one thing that remains padlocked is its login section. Is it just that the website needs to update its certificates? If so, I can probably just send the site runner a message about that.
I dunno what to do with youtube when it shows up though other than just closing out the tab it's on, clearing my browser history, and reopening the site. It happens rarely with youtube, but it's not unheard of, and it follows along every page on the site once it pops up in one page at all until I shut down that tab. And this is a multiple version thing. These are the two sites where I encounter the issue the most as it's one of only a handful of websites I go to aside from an image gallery which is typically very good about safety. Or as much as it can be, at any rate. The only other site I frequent, www.fanfiction.net (probably the oldest fiction website still active today, and not to be confused with fimfiction) has the grey padlock at all times, aside from when I log into the site. I've used the https: prefix most times when going to a site the first time, and firefox has typically then used that prefix anytime I just enter the general website address in the URL bar, but sometimes it doesn't. Is that partially responsible for why I have seen the padlock switch to the triangle sometimes? I know the link that cor-el posted says that by default from version 16 up, mixed content is blocked by default and I don't think I've ever touched that in the options section of the tools, so what exactly do I do here? Just ignore it, or just keep hitting refresh or what? It doesn't happen all the time, after all, but it does still get annoying.

  • Icons in menu bar and standard menus are invisible!

    I'm having an issue with OS X 10.8.2 on my 15" (not Retina) Macbook Pro (late 2011, Core i7 2.4 GHz w/ 16GB RAM and SSD);
The majority of system icons in the menu bar "extras" area (that is, to the right near the date/time in the menu bar) are blank. The area where the icon would be located is responsive to clicks, and drops a menu item down upon click, but the icons themselves are invisible. The same goes for Spotlight which has a spot for it's icon and responds to the hotkey of Apple + Spacebar, but the icon itself is invisible. The only icons that are visible are third party programs that run and place themselves there such as Little Snitch, and the battery low ("red" battery) indicator icon; other battery icons are invisible.
Also invisible/blank are the icons for going back and forward in a Finder window as well as the back/forward icons in System Preferences sub-dialogs. The icons for choosing labels, changing the way Finder windows display (their view options), and a few others that I cannot name as I cannot see them are invisible as well. Icons that would normally display to the left of "All My Files", "AirDrop", "Applications", "Desktop", et cetera in the Finder window do not display, either.
I have tried installing the 10.8.2 Combo Update and using the Disk Utility "Repair" and "Verify" Filesystem options but neither fixed the issue. I have tried deleting the cached plist files for the SystemUIServer as well but there was no change in the icon display (or, that is, lack of display!).
I am running Mac OS X 10.8.2 (including the Combined Update) on the late-2011 Macbook Pro 15" w/ 2.4 GHz Core i7 (default 4GB memory and 750gb HDD; upgraded to 16GB of RAM and a Crucial M4 256GB SSD). I cannot recall if the problem started after I updated any system software or not; I upgraded to 10.8.2 via buying OS X Mountain Lion from the App Store so that I would have a copy on USB to install after replacing my HDD with my SSD. Everything worked fine on fresh installation, and I am not sure at what point the icons disappeared.
Does anyone have any insight into this problem, and more importantly, how to correct it? Please see the screenshots below for a proper illustration of the problem I am experiencing. The sole icon visible, with the two columns, is Little Snitch 3.0.
^-- Clicking the menu bar battery icon (except, there is no icon!)
^-- Finder window with the icons for back/forward, view options, icons for location list items on the left, etc. missing
^-- System Preferences dialog, with icons for the back/forward function missing.
^-- Help window with the icons for back/forward and some other function missing.
    Thank you in advance!

  • How to hide extra text and icons in address bar

I want to make the icons and extra text in the address bar go away since they do nothing for me and only take up space that I need to use to see the whole URL. Right now there's a green padlock icon on the left side with 1/4 of the space taken up by "Mozilla Foundation (US)" instead of the URL, other times it's a little globe or a little lego/car battery looking thing, or several icons in a row. There's a permanent star shaped thingy on the left and a down arrow that want to get rid of as well. I don't care at all what they mean, I just want them gone. I need to see as much of the URL in the URL bar as possible, not a bunch of icons and extra non-URL text. The address bar should be for addresses, and that's how I want my browser to function. I don't care one single bit what those icons or extra text are for, so please don't try to advocate for their staying. I've made up my mind 100% that I want them gone. Can I make them go away, yes or no?

I use code to hide the URL in case of a EV certificate and only show it on hover.
You still see the green padlock.
That gives me extra space on the location bar

  • MY URL bar disappeared!

I was using (as always) Safari 4 and by some weird finger movement I was typing something in google search bar/URL bar and then I heard "swish" (kind of similar to sound when you drag and drop into trash can)- I think I hit an F key by mistake- and then WHOOSH- the menu/URL bar disappeared and that side bar to directly put in a google search/keywords is also gone-- the Bookmarks bar is all up but there is NO WAY TO TYPE IN ANY URL ADDRESS OR EVEN GET TO ANY NEW WEBSITE OR DO A GOOGLE SEARCH- I CAN'T TYPE IN "GOOGLE.COM" ANYWHERE?! OR "YAHOO.COM" "MOBILEME.COM" ETC!!! I HAVE GONE thru prefs and such- but there is nothing- Even under "FILE" the "OPEN LOCATION" option can NOT be highlighted/used! What did I do and HOW do I get it back?!!! I relaunched Safari- new version 4.0.1 direct download from Apple- no luck. I restarted several times- but the URL bar is gone! PLEASE advise...

Found in a history topic- so just in case this happens to anyone currently (this was from a post yesterday!) and I didn't know what to call URL bar either:-)
Problem resolved- but interested to know HOW did I delete it by mistake??? I don't want to repeat that finger/keyboard action again:-0

From the Safari Menu Bar click View/Customize Toolbar. Just drag the default bar up or customize by dragging the icons up.

  • Where can I find the RSS icon in Firefox 4.0?

After upgrading to Firefox 4.0 I become unable to find the RSS icon for pages have RSS links. In Firefox 3.6, the RSS icon was located on the right end of the address bar (near the star). Where is the RSS icon located in Firefox 4.0?
    Thanks.

The RSS button has been removed from the location bar. Instead there is a toolbar button that you can add, for details of how to do that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar - the RSS button is named "Subscribe" in the customize toolbar window.
The RSS button is greyscale, if you prefer to add an RSS icon to the location bar similar to Firefox 3.6, you can use the RSS Icon extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/rss-icon

  • IWeb as part of URL?

I seem to recall reading that one of the enhancements in version 1.1.1 is that one can have shorter URLs -- iWeb need no longer show (I am assuming here that one is hosting it on Dot Mac and not using domain masking, etc.).
    In other words, instead of:
    http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename/pagename
    one could simply have:
    http://web.mac.com/username/sitename/pagename
However, after upgrading, my URLs still include iWeb. Even if I create new sites.
    Any suggestions or comments?

The only thing I remember regarding URLs is that after iWeb 1.0.1, you no longer have to type the trailing /iWeb/ on the URL....
http://web.mac.com/yourname/iWeb <== used to be required
http://web.mac.com/yourname <== now this takes you to the same place
I don't recall anything else about further shortening of the URL. Now, if you are publishing more than one site to .Mac, then your must specify the entire URL down to the sitefolder...
    http://web.mac.com/yourname/iWeb/sitefolder1
    http://web.mac.com/yourname/iWeb/sitefolder2
You don't need to specify the pagename because iWeb will setup the redirection index.html files for you. But you must not leave out the /iWeb/ part of the URL.
I hope this "solves" your question. If so, please mark my reply as "solved" using the little buttons in the title bar of this reply. Thanks.

  • Change firefox icon in address bar

I'm attempting to customize firefox to look like IE, don't ask why, trust me I don't want to. But anyway, I downloaded FoxE9, that kinda customizes firefox to look like ie9, which I think its the closest I'm gonna get.
Only problem Im running across is the firefox icon that is in the address bar on the left side, I think its called a favicon?
Is there any way to change or remove it? Also this is firefox portable version 26.

That isn't a correct action for the URL bar.
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

    * On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.

  • Google Search text prediction in URL Bar

    Hello,
Is it possible to enable Google Search text prediction during typing words in URL Bar?
Now I need to hit ENTER in URL Bar if I want to search some word or use very useless Search Bar :-(
Any other browser like Chrome, Safari, Opera has one bar for anything (URL and SEARCH) with text prediction as well.

You probably are getting Google search suggestions in the 3 search bars (on the navigation toolbar, built-in home page, and built-in new tab page). If not, you can turn on search suggestions using one of these 3 methods:
    * right-click the Search Bar (the one on the main navigation toolbar) > Show Suggestions
    * click the magnifying glass icon on the Search Bar > Change Search Settings, then check the box for Provide search suggestions
    * click the magnifying glass icon for the search box on the built-in home page or new tab page > Manage Search Engines, then check the box for Provide search suggestions
Those do not appear in the address bar yet. For now, you might want to check out this extension:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/omnibar/

  • Favicon in URL bar

    Hello Experts,
I would like to get my company's logo in the URL bar. Ordinarily this is done by placing an icon named favicon.ico into the root directory of the web server.
Does EP7 support this? Does anyone know how to do it exactly?
    Regards
    Mr.T

    Hi,
This is a good start and I now see the favicon  BUT only sometimes. I am getting inconsistent behaviour between browsers and even within the same browser. Sometimes the icon appears and sometimes it just does not.
Perhaps there are other root directories where it must be updated as well.
    Does anyone know?

  • URL bar locked

This is a strange safari problem, and I can't seem to fix it.
It isn't allowing me to type directly into the URL bar. When I try to click into it, it just doesn't let me.
I've been through preferences and I can't see anything relevant. I downloaded the most recent update, is it something to do with that?

    Hi
    Two possibilities -
First, drag the existing bar off the bar by pressing the command key as you click/drag it. Then go to the View Menu>Customize Toolbar and drag a new URL window to the bar.
If that doesn't allow access, then the problem may be caused by corruption in the preference file. Via the Finder: Your User Account>Library>Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.safari.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari. This resets Safari preferences to default values. Restore any custom settings in either the Preference panel, Edit Menu (spelling), or View Menu. Also, restore any custom icons on the toolbar via the Customize Toolbar option.
Also, the reset adds Apple default bookmarks to your Bookmarks collection (command/option/B keys). Delete any you don't want.
