Iweb RSS location

Hi,
I wish to change the default location of the RSS feed which is generated by iweb so that it will be correct when i upload my files to my ftp site.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Currently i get the following when i click my rss button online:
The requested URL /mysite/Club_News/rss.xml was not found on this server.
I know this should be:
http://www.mysiteURL.co.uk/Club_News/rss.xml instead of what I am assuming is this:
http://www.mysiteURL.co.uk/iwebfoldername/Club_News/rss.xml
Can anyone help?
Cheers
Chester99

If you want your RSS to work, you need to upload the entire site instead of just part of it. That means you need to upload the entire folder mysite plus the index.html file which iWeb creates alongside it.

  • IWeb RSS Widget Clone for non RSS?

I love the iWeb RSS Widget for displaying information. Does anyone know how to clone it so that you can use it with your own content that is not an RSS feed. I would love to repurpose it for use to display paragraphs of info on my site, without having to have it say loading and load the fake rss feed.
    Thanks!

I think it's impossible. But you can display your own content in an RSS feed, it's easy to create your own RSS feed with a text editor : http://www.make-rss-feeds.com/making-an-rss-feed.htm .
And if you find it too complicated, you can use a software like [Feeder|http://reinventedsoftware.com/feeder>.

  • IWeb RSS

Hi I use iWeb '08 for my websites. I have a external website. I do not use apples servers for my hosting. I use godaddy now when I publish to a folder I enter my website name when it asks. When I upload it to my website I visit my website to see if everything went right but the rss part didnt. The rss never works right when I click on the RSS button at the top it brings me to a page saying this page saying
    Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “feed://www.gregoryonlineservices.com/Gregory_Online/S%26W/rss.xml” because it could not load any data from this location.
If u want to c it 4 urself go to gregoryonlineservices.com and click on S&W and go to RSS feed

I am dealing with this same issue. Apple sates that the RSS subscription only works with a .Mac account hosting your site. I also use a third party server. I have tried subscribing to the rss.xml file in my Blog folder and when looking at the code I noticed that iWeb has added a directory to the html link path that does not exist on my external FTP server. Basically, instead of http://www.bookendmedia.com/Blog/Blog.html, I get http://www.bookendmedia.com/BookEndMedia/Blog/Blog.html. I think it happens when I "publish to a folder" because the added /BookEndMedia directory path is the name of the folder on my computer that I publish to.
I'm still trying to figure out how to get around it. I have opened the rss.xml file and changed every single link for each entry and each file reference for pictures and the like so that they don't include the /BookEndMedia. I'll keep you posted when I come up with a solution. It won't be simple...

  • IWeb, RSS and libsyn

I've purchased iLife, and am totally jazzed about using iWeb for podcasting. But I have bandwidth concerns, and do not want to use my .Mac account for audio file hosting.
I'd rather use a service like LibSyn, which (for a monthly fee) hosts content, and has unmetered bandwidth. Here's my question: How can I use iWeb to refer RSS aggregators ("podcatchers") to download files hosted on another server? Is there a way to circumvent iWeb's automatically-generated RSS enclosures?
    Any help/insight is appreciated!

I can help with some of this, but I'm also trying to find out if libsyn will work with iWeb.
To generate your own RSS feed, publish to a folder. When you choose this option, it will ask you for the URL of the site where the resulting folder will be uploaded. Then, the resulting RSS file will use that URL instead of the .Mac address.
I would also recommend you use FeedBurner (feedburner.com) to route your RSS, so that if you switch hosts, the only thing you have to change is the feedburner setting. You will also want to manually add the <new-feed-url> tag after <channel> in your RSS to identify the feedburner URL as the location of your RSS feed instead of the web host URL.
My question is: can you upload an iWeb folder to LibSyn via FTP? I want to switch to libsyn for their unmetered bandwidth, but there's no point if I can't upload my podcast pages, MP3s and RSS and have it all work.

  • How to use iweb rss feed in an iphone web app?

So this is my dilemma.  I wanted my iweb turned into a web app using the rss feed.
This is simply done cause of the "Add To Homescreen" feature.
While the RSS feed works beautifully on safari... it does not read as a webapp.
This surprised me cause I thought it would still be safari that would be loading my web app.
I tried everything to get my RSS feed to work in a web app but i failed miserably.
Is there a fix for this?

Adding to the homescreen doesn't make it a webapp.
It creates a shortcut to the webpage, just as dragging a url to the desktop creates a .webloc file.
    You want an iWeb "webapp"?
Add this page to the homescreen and then click that icon :
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Demo/Fancy/Dynamic_Text.html
Then click the links in the dynamic textboxes.
I leave it to you to figure out how it's done. Hint : read the documentation.
To summarize : you want a fix for a problem that does not exist.

  • Iweb rss feed not working

I published my website (www.nigelreblochon.com) to a folder, then uploaded (using cyberduck) to my webhost. For it to work properly there, I had to remove all items from the folder iWeb created for my site (lets call the folder nigel). The site works fine except for the fact that the podcast feed no longer works because the files needed are no longer in the "nigel" folder. What to do, I would give up the rss feed if there is no other solution. Any help would be apreciated.

well, i didi that. only problem is the index.html
that was sent with the iweb folder was for my .mac
site instead of the nigel site (since iweb always
publishes EVERYTHING! instead of just something.)
If you have multiple sites inside iWeb, then to have the index.html refer to the nigel site, just make sure that the nigel site is at the top of the list in the site organizer when you publish to your local drive.
    am
i right in assuming that setting up a new user
"nigel" and working on iweb from there would rectify
    my problem.?
Yes, as long as nigel is at the top of the list of your sites (or the only site of course) inside iWeb when you publish. You could make it the only site by putting a copy of your Domain file in the appropriate place in the new account and opening iweb and deleting the other sites.

  • IWeb RSS Issues. Help!!!

Using iWeb 09 I have fed a blog through to a page using the RSS Widget. It shows correctly on the page but on clicking on the entry the address it takes me to isn't correct. Unfortunately it's a passworded site so I can't provide links.
    The Blog is at:  http://www.(mywebsite)/Blog/Blog/Blog/Blog.html
The Link from the blog entry fed to my web page takes me to:
    http://www.(mywebsite)/Blog/Blog/Blog.html
    What have I done wrong??

I'm a bit new to this but if I take it back one folder it doesn't show in the widget. Any thoughts?

  • Podcast graphic not showing Iweb rss not the same as Technotes

I noticed that the graphic for my podcasts are not showing in itunes. Pinged and changed them to 300*300 jpg.and changed name of file and you can get to the file from the url. Week later still no change but text updates ok. Just have the generic file. Also the categories in Iweb are out of date so need to use a find and replace to fix them al the time.
Anyone else got the same problem?
    http://www.australianmac.com

iTunes is having a problem at the moment with cover art
    http://discussions.apple.com/ann.jspa?annID=408
so don't worry too much about that.
Make sure your rss feed is all ok by going here http://www.feedvalidator.org/
and putting in your fee which is
    http://web.mac.com/yournameondotmac/iWeb/(yoursitename)/(yoursitename)Podcast/(yoursitename)Podcast.html
Fill in all the(yoursitename) with your sitename like jeffrobinson.
Now yours may be different but you can see the path by going to your .mac in the finder and looking in the Web folder, then the sites folder, then the iWeb folder, and there is your site name on the enclosed folder. Remember that any spaces in a name are %20 in the url. Clear as mud eh?
The other way is to look at your iWeb site in iWeb, find your podcast page on the left and the first main page of your podcast is the rss feed you need to validate so surf to it in safari and copy the url and put it in the validator above. Look at the results and tell me what they are or just send me the url here and Ill have a look for you. OK?

  • IWeb RSS size

I am currently hosting a blog using iWeb and MobileMe, but I would also like to import my blog into a few social networks. On the social networks I don't want to show the whole blog, but only a piece of it, so that when people want to read it all they need to click through to my site.
Is there a way to limit the amount of content that is put through the RSS feed, so that it will only display part of the blog?

    Hey,
Try selecting the RSS text (to do this, double click the RSS feed widget, then double click the text inside the feed you you want to change), then press Command-T, and select a different font size.

  • Iweb RSS feed problem

I just posted my first site with iWeb and on my home page I want to use the RSS widget to display spinets from my blog page on the same site. I have published the site to my FTP host and now the site is live. (www.thezumbacrew.com) Now that it is live, I thought I could find the RSS feed of my blog and add it to my home page RSS widget and republish. Not the case. When I go back into to iWeb to add the RSS feed it says "The feed source cannot be reached, Try again later."
I know the RSS feed from my blog works because it shows up fine in Google Reader.
    Any ideas?

You have an & symbol in the URL which may be causing the problem as it is replaced by %26 by the browser....
    feed://www.thezumbacrew.com/TheZumba_Crew/News_%26Events/rss.xml
Special symbols are a NO in URLS in general. Try using "News-and-Events" as hyphens are more easily seen in URLs that are underscored.

  • IWeb RSS FEED UPDATE

Could anyone - actually preferably Apple - please solve the RSS Feed Widget error I'm having in iWeb?
The site is on [www.xantopia.net], now [V011].
As you can see, I've made a blog with iWeb. On other pages from that site, I'm referring to the blog through a RSS Feed Widget [also from iWeb]. I'm correctly referring to the web address as you can see. e.g. "feed://www.xantopia.net/V011/Blog/rss.xml".
I'm randomly duplicating entries in that feed, but the feed is not updating at all. Well, it sometimes does..and sometimes don't!
I've tried everything. I can only guess he's keeping some cache from old RSS feeds and as such redisplay what once was...
The very basic functionality I'd like to have is to [RESET] the feed, so whatever I'm doing with my entries, the feed gets updated to what really is in there.
Thanks so much for helping me out.
    Y

The method for transferring iTunes to another feed is described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/podcast.html#move
However as this involves adding a tag to the feed you cannot do it in iWeb itself. You could do it this way:
Download your feed and open it in TextEdit in PLAIN TEXT MODE, not Rich Text which is often the default.
Add the tag as described in my page.
Re-upload the feed using an FTP program. Do not subsequently make any amendments in iWeb for two weeks.
Alternatively email Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to move it (give them the URL of your Store page and both feed URLs) - there's no guarantee they will but they have done for some people.

  • Iweb rss feed stopped working

About a week ago all of my RSS feeds made through the RSS iWeb Widget stopped working. Some research brought me here: SyntaxError: Unexpected identifier 'any' (anonymous function) www.icloud.com:1
Is Apple not supporting it anymore? That would be a disaster
Message was edited by: Idiot Media

Well yes, the fact that Apple has not supported iWeb for the last 3 years is old news!!  Apple has not sold or supported iWeb for at least 3 years and iWeb has not been updated for at least 6 years.
The longer you continue to use iWeb and technology moves forward, the more likely you are to get things that don't work as expected.
Perhaps it is now time to ditch iWeb in favour of alternative software that is actually supported?
There is a lot out there - RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, WebAcappella 4, Flux V and EverWeb.
With most of these you can try before you buy.

  • IWeb RSS Feed

I am having issues with my RSS feed since I have forwarded and masked my domain name to my iWeb url. I tried to upload the feed to iTunes and had an error. I downloaded Feeder to generate a feed for me but have no idea where I should put this feed once it's been created to have it reflect on my site. Has anyone done this before?

  • IWeb, RSS Feed, iStore

Hi All, I am starting a series of educational videocasts. If I join .mac and post the videos on a website using iWeb, will i be able to generate an RSS link to then post then on the iStore.
I already have a blog page, could i generate an RSS from this also and how ?
    Thanks

Yes that should all be possible.
You can make RSS feeds of your web pages there is an option to turn it on on the web page settings in iWeb.
You can also submit your podcasts to the iTunes Store, pointing to the link on your web site.

  • IWeb RSS feed address is wrong and "Visit" button address is wrong

Any ideas why when visitors try to use the RSS feed, it uses an incorrect address ? How/where do I correct the address the RSS feed should direct to? I'm using mobileme to host my webpage and blog.
As an extra question, when I hit the VISIT button on the bottom of the iWEb editing page, the link is also broken. Are these two related?
Thanks to everyone for any input!

    Please visit : douglaslittlephotography.ca
If you type that in, and go to the blog, and hit the RSS feed, it doesn't work. . .
    Thanks for looking and helping!
