IWeb Shift upon publishing?

I recently started giving a shot at iWeb, trying to design a website for a political campaign I'm working on. Upon publishing the website online, I noticed that the images and text seem to shift out of place from where they were when I originally designed/placed them in the iWeb editor. Does anyone know how to fix this? It's a pretty annoying problem to encounter after spending hours designing the website itself.
Check out the website here at mcmillanforhouse.comeze.com.Be sure to look at the header image on the "Meet Jim" page. It shifted pretty noticeably and created an annoying white bar at the top of the page.
Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When possible insert the photo into the text box and wrap the text around it. That will prevent shifting between the text and photos.
Otherwise make sure there's no overlapping between the text, photos or other objects. What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?

The A in this website does not show up in iweb only after publishing, how do I take it out?

If the server was sending UTF-8 what would this character appear as?
You can see this for yourself by going to View > Text Encoding in your browser and setting it to UTF-8.  The characters will disappear.  They normally represent non-break spaces.   When the page is sent (or read) in Latin-1 encoding instead of UTF-8, they appear as Latin characters instead of empty space.
The different results of PageSpinner are probably because it is using some other encoding like MacRoman.
If you plug the url into this site it shows the encoding being sent by the server.

  • In iweb changes not publishing

Since changing from mobileme server to ftp server, changes to website made in iweb do not publish?

If you are uploading your website files using the iWeb FTP, any old, existing files should get overwritten automatically. Try switching to another browser like Google Chrome or Firefox to view your site.
To find the file manager you need to login to your hosting account.
You can use the freeware Cyberduck to upload files and manage files on the server but it doesn't allow you to view the files on your Mac in the same window as the ones on the server...

  • IWeb won't publish to Mobileme

I am running the latest iWeb 2.0.4 and iWeb will not publish, I get a message that it will not connect every time. My internet is fine, any idea what I can do to get this working.

Although the fix in the thread I'm linking you to is for an email issue it did help one user with a publishing problem. See my post in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7803559#7803559

  • Trouble with iweb SEO tool publishing to FTP address

Trying to publish using SEO tool to my FTP address and nothing happens in the status bar. I selected the folder to upload and choose the right server folder but no go. Any suggestions. Do I need to go on my host and clear out the publishing folder first? Also, do people recommend iWeb SEO tool over iMAP? I know SEO is free so I am trying that first. I use I tweak to add in google analytics so not sure how that works with SEO tool? Do I need to run iTweak and then iWeb SEO then publish? Thanks again.

I just tested it with a section of a website and it uploaded fine. Its going to depend on the size of your site files.
Are you using the latest V 1.3?
It's the first time I've tested the built in FTP as I usually add the meta stuff and then optimize before uploading. It doesn't seem to take any longer than the other FTP applications I use.

  • Downloaded Lion and Now iWeb Won't Publish New Page or Changes?

    Hello,
I am having the hardest time getting iWeb now publish info. After updating to Lion iWeb will not publish anything new I do on iWeb. It will act like it is publishing everything but nothing shows up on the net. What do I need to do to fix this?

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
The following will assist you in using iWeb with Lion partidularly if you have more than one domain file:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • IWeb Quits when Publishing - Apple Genius said to Archive & Reinstall

Just spent over an hour with an Apple Genius at the Apple store to see if he could alleviate my problem with iWeb quitting whenever I tried to publish. I've been using iWeb for the last 5 months and have successfully posted hundreds of blog posts and pictures to my site on a .Mac account - but in the last 24 hours, I've been unable to get new posts published because iweb has been crashing prior to finishing the publish request.
I've tried deleting the iWeb preferences in /myname/library/prefernces as well as clearing my cache files and plain old rebooting. Also tried reinstalling the 1.1. update. The Genius reinstalled iWeb at the store and then I updated. Nothing's been fixed. I still crash when I publish. The only possible solution (according to the Genius) is to bite the bullet and do an Archive and Install. Anyone had luck with this?
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I would go with a second User account first, as suggested by James.
If this doesn't work, I would be thinking corrupt prefs files within the domain file itself....
    1. Quit iWeb
    2. Navigate to the domain file, User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain
    3. CREATE A COPY OF THIS FILE, and then move it to somewhere safe.
    4. Now back to the original, "control+click" (Right click if you have one of those new fangled two button mice (mouses?!?) )
    5. From the pop-up menu, choose "Show Package Contents"
    6. Sort the finder window by "Kind", it brings all of the plist files inside iWeb together.
assets.YourUserName.plist - This one is a regular problem!
    ServerCachedResources.plist
    sharedassets.plist
    deletedComments.YourUserName.plist
I have deleted all of these when having different problems, not specifically iWeb quittting when publishing, I dont think that that has happened to me.
I do have a tendancy to lose blog comments, perhaps deleting these files has caused it.
I also know that once I have deleted them and relaunched iWeb, done a Publish All to .Mac, all of my problems have gone.
The plist files are all recreated the first time you do this.
You may or may not want to try this, but on a copy of your domain.sites file is there anything to lose? Other than your sanity?
You might want to do one at a time or all at once.
Anyway, thats my 2 pence worth, I'm English really!!!

  • IWeb refuses to publish my latest blog entry

I have ftp'ed into the server and deleted the whole thing. I re-published the whole site and the most recent blog entry just isn't there. In iWeb it is fine, I can get to it, it shows up in the archive, it is actually uploaded to the server, there are just no links to it anywhere on the site.
    Help.

have a problem that apple support has just not been able to solve:( produced and published a website and hosting it through iweb. recently, any changes made in iweb will not publish - i tested a page in a new site and it published perfectly. am beginning to think there is something corrupt in my original site. i have backed up the domain to a portable drive - without rebuilding the bloody site, will it work if i delete the published site (which clearly has an error) and republish my latest version of the site? thanks in advance,

  • Text Shifts when publishing

How do I keep the the text from shifitng? In iWeb the page looks fine but after publishing the text moves causing rows of text get out of alignment. I have to keep republlishing after inserting (or deleting) spaces to get back into the best alignment possible. Truly not wysiwyg in iweb to the published page.

I just revisited your 'Schedule' page. If you pick "View Source" in the Safari 'View' menu you can see the HTML that iWeb built. The 'May 27' entry has one more 'space' char at its front that the 'May 26' entry. I don't see how that ever looks right whether in iWeb or a browser.
As I said earlier, a variable width font (like Hoefler or Times) cannot be reliably aligned with 'space' chars.
Please try building two parallel text boxes and eliminate the white space before each line (in each box). If you need to indent, use the iWeb Inspector's Text 'text' or 'list' properties.
Otherwise pick a fixed width font like Courier. Only then will the space chars be the same width as the visible chars.

  • IWeb won't publish anymore

All my menu items are greyed out, my publish button is greyed out. If I try to close the programme, I am warned that iWeb is still publishing, It's now had about 20 hours to publish the same site it once did in 1 hour.
Is iWeb now useless to me?

Interesting. I've seen that happen on occasion with Internet Explorer on the PC I have to use at work. I'll publish my changes at home, all looks good on Firefox and Safari, then I go to work, check it out in IE and the changes aren't showing in IE. Even after clearing the cache. However, if I start up Firefox at work, clear the cache in that, all is good--and sometimes, all then looks good in IE.
Have you tried another browser to see if the changes show up?

  • Audio file not showing up upon publish

    It's me once again.
I am importing a mp3 via the "media" toolbar option. Upon publish I have opened up the page.html and the song is playing. However, there is no audio file in the page_files and it's not working once put on to my hosting space. It should be noted that there is a quicktime slideshow already on the page that is working and is saved in the page_files as a jpg. file (why not a .mov file I do not know). Anyone know what is going on. -Paul

Oh, thanks for clarifying Roddy, I didn't catch what you meant cyclo most likely because I have a page titled "media" and therefore overlooked the media folder. So one last question and I'll stay off the forum for a while. When someone opens up a page with a media file, how does it work? Do they have wait till the whole folder is downloaded or does it select the precise file being used? -Paul

how do I use iweb 08 to publish to "just host"

See this page for info about using FTP...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Upload.html
Make sure you upload both the folder produced by iWeb and the external index.html file to the root folder on the server.
If you are not sure about which folder is the root, ask you hosting services tech support.
If you have a domain name, contact your registrar to get it to point to the location of your files.

Adding audio files by dragging onto the web page forces the viewer to have Quicktime installed on their computer in order to be able to listen to them.  Look at the audio player options on this page of Roddy's iWeb for Musicians site: Audio Players for your Music Website.

  • IWeb Crashes Upon Opening

Had a great website for a year. No problems. Took it down (incorrectly?) at approximately the same time I posted some photos in iPhoto.
Now iWeb crashes upon start up x 10,000. Only help I got from Apple was: create a new user, see if iWeb comes up there. Yes, it does, but everything is in grey and I can't activate "new site" or "new page".
    This is making me nuts.
    HELP.

    Jim,
Try moving your "com.apple.iweb.plist" file out onto your desktop and restarting iWeb. You can find this file inside: yourhomeaccount>Library>Preferences.
If this fixes your issue, then trash the file out on your desktop.
    And please....don't call me Shirley.
