IWeb should be a .Mac homepage client software...

iWeb using a different webpage address for .Mac users, that make some trouble to people, cause they are the two sites on .Mac by one user. If I have my homepage on "homepage.mac.com", what URL I should tell my friends? iWeb can refer to a "homepage.mac.com" page, but .mac homepage can't do that. this means that I should tell the new URL to friends if I use iWeb homepage.
I hope they are the same URL, that will make it simply.

JT, If I'm understanding you correctly, you think that .Mac and iWeb should be more integrated, inasmuch as your website address(es) are concerned.
In my view, Apple dropped the ball on this one. It should have integrated dot Mac and iWeb so that those of us with existing dot Mac addresses would have had more integration between our now TWO or more sites. We are left, essentially, with two separate entities.
What i've done on mine is post a link to my existing dot Mac site, and on my dot Mac site, I've done a separate page with the direct link to my new site and an explanation of why there are two websites for me now. It is the first page that visitors see in the dot Mac main menu.
The other part to this is that I like both websites, but would like to incorporate the features of both into one. Apple flunked on this one. Eventually, I hope to move everything over to iWeb, and I think Apple is heading in this direction, because imo Apple would have made it easier to integrate the two if it wanted two separate entities in the first place - a company known for thinking different and thinking ahead.
Having said all that, my iWeb site is getting to look really good. I find it much like Photoshop - building the site with layers, images, etc.
For now, at least, we have no alternative but to hand out two different URLs as well as an explanation of why there are two or more!
Rachel.

  • Do I have to upgrade MaxDB client software on the SCM host?

We have a scenario as follows:
    SCM+APO  is on host A
    LiveCache is on host B
We upgraded LiveCache to 7.7 on host B
Should we upgrade the MaxDB client software on host A?
The SAP how-to has  no info about this.
    Thanks!

    Well, the note
SAP Note 822271 FAQ: SAP MaxDB client software
    answers this.
The client software does not depend on the MaxDB/liveCache version you use for the server instance.
Instead it depends on the SAP KERNEL.
To support all administrative tasks/tools you should keep the client version at least on the same major release as the database.
That is when you use liveCache 7.6.x you should also have the 7.6.x client software installed on the application servers.
With liveCache 7.7.x that would be client software 7.7.
If you meant that you've just installed a new patch, say from 7.7.02 to 7.7.04, then no update of the client software is necessary.
    regards,
    Lars

  • IWeb, iPhoto, .Mac Homepage, Photopages and Photocasts

I'm on the Apple dope since about 2003 or so...
Used to one-click publish photo albums from iPhoto that automatically went to my .Mac Homepage. This worked great.
Recently upgraded to a newer generation of iLife - Enter iWeb - and now have a web.mac.com page too. Cool. I even got a Photos page up there too.
    The questions...
    1) is updating and publishing to the .Mac Homepage from within iPhoto obsolete now?
    2) if NOT, how can i continue to utilize it?
    3) If i have previously built a photo page on my web.mac.com site using drag-and-drop, and i have a photocast link on my main "welcome" page, will people be subscribed to the page?
    4) if it IS that simple, and i later edit the single photo page on the web.mac.com site by dragging another couple of photos to it and selecting "Publish to iWeb", will subscribed ppl get the updates?

From the Apple .Mac website.... quite a while ago:
First: reassurance. The pages you've created and are publishing with HomePage are still available at homepage.mac.com/yourmembername and you can continue to use HomePage to create and publish new pages. But what iWeb makes possible is so good; multiple websites and multiple kinds of web publishing, all made extremely easy; you'll most likely want to take advantage of it.
Not a problem. You can use iWeb as your new .Mac web publishing center and keep your existing HomePage content alive in two different ways. The simplest (and we do mean simple) is to navigate to your HomePage pages in Safari and drag the urls into pages you're creating within iWeb. The link will appear with the name you've given the page in HomePage. When you publish, any links you've dragged in will take visitors to those pages.
The other way is also simple. Just republish the pages with iWeb. The same photo album you used the iPhoto HomePage button to publish can either be republished directly out of iPhoto again or dragged straight from iWeb's integrated iLife media browser. The photos will appear instantly. Just click Publish when you're done and announce the event to your audience.
Added benefit: The new slideshow that accompanies iWeb-published photo pages is an extra pleasure to view and use.

  • .Mac Homepage vs. iWeb

Prior to upgrading to iLife 06, I uploaded photo albums to my .Mac homepage. Now that I am running iLife 06, by default I can only publish photos from iPhoto using iWeb. I noticed that publishing using iWeb creates a site address of ...web.mac.com/xxxxx. So what happens to my ...homepage.mac.com/xxxxx site? Is this site now defunct because I can't seem to republish existing photo albums to my "homepage" site. Hope this makes sense.

    17 " PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

My only complaint so far, aside from the poor blogging implementation, is that when making changes, it republishes all sites, instead of simply republishing the page with the change.
I've tested it with only one site, and now with two, and each change results in iWeb republishing all information, which seems wasteful to me. So, if I have more than one photo page, which I normally do, it wastes time and bandwidth republishing all the pages for all sites, regardless of whether there's any changes.
That's about the only thing I prefer about publishing photos to Homepage, the speed in posting photo sites.
iWeb seems comparable to Macromedia's Contribute product in terms of design and usage (albeit missing Contribute's greater layout flexibility and customization), and certainly its integration with iPhoto and .Mac gives it greater potential.

I'm new to website publishing, and am wondering what the pros/cons are to iWeb and .mac homepage? How are they different? Which one is better and why?

  • Can I clone a .mac Homepage to iWeb?

I would like to clone my old .mac Homepage (still active) to iWeb. One complication is some of the links were password protected and I neglected to unprotect them before Homepage went away.
    Howard

You will eventually be able to access Homepage according to .Mac: System Status says members cannot access the HomePage application and this statement in your Me page:
    "*System Status*
MobileMe members may be unable to access groups.mac.com.
MobileMe members cannot access the HomePage application. Service will be restored ASAP. We apologize for any inconvenience.
It just may take a few days. Otherwise you could try copying the Homepage folder for your site from it's current location to the iDisk/Web/Sites folder and see if that might open it up. The URL would be different.

  • Iweb/.mac homepage???

I'm new to mac web publishing and to .mac. I have created a web page through iweb without much problem. Can anyone tell me the difference between the homepage on .mac and my web pages I created on iweb and published to .mac? My home page still pops up with all the options to create a look but I'm confused on how to create something out of it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.... lakerider

Another way to separate sites so you can work on them independently is to use iWebSites.
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • How merge iWeb with .mac HomePage?

I'm having difficulties on merging iWeb photos I published into my .mac homepage which I already have lot of pics in there. I want people to continue looking at my pictures.
On my .mac account when I log in on Safari, I noticed the homepage galleries are separated from the iWeb I published. How can I merge these two together??
Please help! I'm starting to "regret" that I installed iLife '06. This is not any simple as Apple said so.

    Sherry:
You can edit and add to existing homepages via the .Mac site thru Safari or your web browser. You'd have to manually add photo files to the folder holding the photo files for a particular web page and then go the the .Mac homepage site, select that page and do an edit. You can also create new homepages with the older themes manually.
It is a shame you can't use the two together. the iWeb selection of theses is rather limited compared to Homepage. Good luck.

  • Why do my Podcast episodes appear within a few hours on my iTunes Podcast channel, but they sometimes take DAYS to appear in the iTuned PC Client software?

I've got a strange situation where my iTunes podcast channel has published podcast episodes appearing on the website a few hours after release, but the podcast episode does not appear in the iTuned client software on a PC / Mac for multiple days?  This appears to have gotten worse in the last month or so
Any comments or suggestions, anyone, other than having Jobs to a ressurection trick ?

I'm afraid I can't advise on Windows software. I can't see any reason why it should behave differently from iTunes on a Mac: it's reading exactly the same data. Sometimes the Store is slow to catch up, so that new episodes can take a few days to appear (though they appear immediately when subscribing) but that isn't the case here as the Store matches the feed.
As this is evidently a problem with accessing the podcast, rather than creating it, you could ask in the iTunes for Windows forum.

  • Posting iweb sites on a .mac family account...

I have just upgraded my .mac account to a family pack, converting my wifes email only account so she has full .mac goodies. Can we both upload separate iweb sites without overwriting each other? If so how?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lee

This is from the .mac help menu:
You should have separate accounts addresses
Setting up a Family Pack sub-account
If you purchased a Family Pack account, you can set up four sub-accounts. A Family Pack sub-account includes 2.5 gigabytes (GB) of combined email and iDisk storage.
Note: .Mac Family Pack sub-accounts cannot add email-only accounts or upgrade storage.
    To set up a sub-account:
    1. If you're not already logged in to .Mac, go to www.mac.com, and log in.
    2. Click Account in the left column of the .Mac homepage, and then confirm your login.
    3. Click Manage Accounts.
Note: You can manage accounts only if you have a full .Mac membership.
    4. In the Family Pack Sub-accounts section, click the Set Up Account button and follow the onscreen instructions.
If you go to the .mac page and click on the help button upper right you can find other related topic.

  • SSO for client software appllications

    Hi,
Can we have SSO enabled for any applications which needs to have client software installed on user machine?
Once i click on an iView then it should open client software for that application without asking me user name and password.
    Thanks,
    Bhavesh

    Hi Bhavesh,
You can implement SSO with SAP Logon Tickets to acces Non SAP Systems and Applications and you have several options to enable it.
SAP offers a Web server filter that can be used to implement Single Sign On with logon tickets to Web-based applications that support authentication with a HTTP header variable. The filter verifies the logon ticket using the public-key certificate for the logon tickets, then extracts the name of the authenticated user from the logon ticket, and writes it into the HTTP header. You specify the name of the HTTP header variable in the remote_user_alias parameter in the filter configuration file.
