Salutations,
Cédric

  • Iweb site not showing up in firefox version 3.0

i recently published my iweb site to a folder and put it up on a hosting site, it used to be at .mac, but well...
anyway the photo album part of the pages is not showing up in the firefox at my work: 3.0
but it works fine in safari...
    any suggestions?
    www.thebeautyseeker.com

I'm having the same problem. I just published a blog with photo pages, but the photos do not load using Firefox 3.0. They show just fine using Safari. I've not tried it yet with Explorer, but friends who have logged in have not complained about not seeing the photos, so I suspect the problem is specific to Firefox.
Anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

  • Making an iWeb site for dialup users

I'd like tips on using iWeb 08 to make a site (to be part of my mac.com space) that will be suitable for people with dialup connexions to use. This is for a Friends of the Library organization for a rural branch library, and most of our area has no access to broadband internet connexions, or if they do, cannot afford them. I understand keeping the graphics small in download size, and have used the application Imagewell to prepare the photos prior to placing them in iWeb or my Wordpress blog.
But, for example, is there one template that is significantly less complicated/faster to download? I can use "view source" to look at them, and know a little about html, but would appreciate any suggestions on this.
Can "site optimizers" such as Site Soap 1.3.1 or Web Site Maestro 6.5.1 be used with iWeb? Would there be any significant gain, given that I will already be making the images small & fast to download?
Is iWeb contra-indicated for this situation? Should I use some other very simple html editor instead of iWeb?

Website Maestro will significantly reduce you file sizes for faster download.
    For a photo example see....

I tried Site Soap way back before I discovered WSM - no comment!

  • IWeb sites with photo slideshows after migration from MobileMe

I raised this question in another discussion earlier today in response to another post in the MobileMe forum (no answer yet), but the recent confirmation about the death of MobileMe webhosting brings new urgency to this question for me, so I figured I'd post it in the iWeb forum.
I knew that if I migrated my iWeb sites to another host, I'd lose the counter, etc. I wasn't concerned about that, and don't have a blog or comments area that would be impacted. But, on my two sites (iWeb -->MobileMe), there are many pictures--and slideshows are an important part of those sites. Will the slideshow feature of iWeb be able to be used after I migrate to another host  such as hostexcellence or godaddy??? If that's true, then I really do have a problem. (I'm not talking about galleries from iPhoto to mobileme, but photo pages in iWeb sites.)
I've spent a ton of time over the last couple of years on those sites, and would hate to redo them. While there may be alternatives to the iWeb slideshow, it will take me quite a while to figure it out. (I never had a desire to learn how to do that--if I did, I wouldn't have needed iWeb.)
If anybody who uses the iWeb slideshow on a photo page and has their sites hosted somewhere other than MobileMe could let me know--I'd appreciate it. (Let me know which host you use please!) Thanks.
I guess related to this, if it's absolutely not going to work anymore, suggestions would be appreciated. Do I have to redo my sites for this? Is there an "iWeb like" program that has an easy to use slideshow for a photopage that would work? If so, I guess I have a year to redo my sites. )

Past experience has taught me not to rely on media player assets on third party servers. Yahoo pulling the plug on the EasyListener player is a case in point.
As OT has pointed out, the slideshow works on other servers but, according to Cyclosaurus, some necessary assets are on the Apple server.
Wouldn't it be reasonable to expect that Apple will make these assets available after the demise of MobileMe if enough people requested this?
The iWeb method of getting media onto websites leaves a lot to be desired and there are a lot of other ways to display music, movies and photos. The photo page is one of iWebs few triumphs but there are many alternative slideshows and banners.
Most of these methods require that assets are uploaded to, ideally, your own server but its not so difficult once you grasp the concept and the basics of FTP.
iWeb does provide two other methods of publishing apart from MobileMe. The built in FTP is just as quick, easy and convenient as publishing to MobileMe once you set it up.
Publishing to a local folder and uploading via an FTP app. allows you to add SEO tags and optimize the files for faster download.
A good FTP application makes the task of uploading media player assets very easy - drag and drop.

  • Help Moving iWeb site to a windows PC

My objective is to create a site using iWeb and move that site to a standalone PC and use Firefox to read the site folder and run the site. Not needing any internet. The files are too large anyway.
I have created the iWeb site with many videos from iMovie. In iWeb I have "published to folder" and then I point Firefox to the folder and browse and check all the links and videos. It all works fine on the Mac.
The first question I have is that I assumed the "publish to folder" would contain all the needed files for the site (including the videos). In looking at the folder that was created, it only contains the pages, etc. Not the actual videos. So part of the question is that when I move the site to a PC I guess I need to find and move the videos also? What about the directory structure that iWeb is expecting?
The second question is how to get this large site to a PC? Someone recommended connecting the Mac and PC with an eithernet cable. Someone also suggested using a portable Harddrive formatted as FAT32. Too big for a thumb drive.
If someone could guide me through this I would appreciate it.
    Thank you.

I assumed the "publish to folder" would contain all the needed files for the site (including the videos).
    That's correct.
In looking at the folder that was created, it only contains the pages, etc.
It should also contain folders, with names like pagename_files and Media, that contain images, videos ,etc.

  • Dead links in iWeb site - IE only

I have just published my first iWeb site: www.envisioningchange.ca
All seems to work great in Safari and Firefox (though plug-in for social media sharing "Add This" is down right now), however many of the links, some of them in the text (not just nav links) are dead when viewed in Internet Explorer. I have searched for a solution to this on various forums and have not found anything specific to this issue.
    Anybody able to help?
    Many thanks!

    Hi Roddy
Thanks so much for the replies and the super informative links! Unfortunately, following the instructions to insert drop shadows before putting images into iWeb resulted in a slightly different appearance and alignment to the image...one I'm not totally pleased with. If it's the only thing that works, I may go that route. The thing is, each page seems to behave differently, so I am unconvinced that this is the problem, since each page has an image with drop shadow, but some have active links and others do not.
I would rather not watermark the images for a few reasons. I'm actually rather pleased with the transparent overlay to prevent right-click downloading.
I checked the site on IE this morning and did not see any of the text mis-alignment you mentioned. Any chance you could send a screenshot?
Problem continues to be a mix of link issues, including seemingly randlom links that are completely dead (both external and internal links), some with only half the link active (need to move mouse over the whole text to find an active part).
One thing I did notice this morning is that as the home page was loading the image, the split second before the image was up, the links were active. As soon as the image was up, the links were dead. And this was after I removed the drop shadow on that page!
Any further thoughts would be most welcome!

  • Paypal button in iWeb site

any idea how to introduce a PayPal payment button into an iWeb site. Paypal give a section of HTML but i don't know how to apply it to the site i am creating for commercial use.

Here's how I got a paypal button on my site at:
    http://www.rowan-cottage.co.uk/Site/ShopBlog/ShopBlog.html
Go to Paypal and create your button. You'll get to a page with all the HTML needed. Copy this HTML.
Open a text box on your page the size of the button eg, 62 px by 31 px.
Type in the box some recognisable, unique text, eg, PaypalHTML, and change the font size of it so that's it fits in the tiny text box. You can horizontally centre the text or position it left or right, but don't vertically align it otherwise the text box changes into a png. You want it to remain a text box.
    Publish.
Open the page in your text/HTML editor.
Find and replace the text 'PaypalHTML' with the actual Paypal HTML.
That's it. That way there's no alignment problems and it goes where you want it to.
You use the same principle with banners served by other parties, scripts etc. See my links page for more examples:
    http://www.rowan-cottage.co.uk/Site/Links.html
    I hope that helps.

There's nothing pretty about the code iWeb generates.  It's a sea of <div> tags and inline styles that expert coders would find difficult to work with. So yes.  Re-building your site in DW with an external CSS file is an excellent idea .

  • Pdf file on iweb site?

Can I insert a pdf document to be downloaded from my iweb site?
    Thanks

    Thanks
Yes you can, and I don't think you have to concern yourself with iDisk. Here's what iWeb's Help viewer says:
    To create a hyperlink:
Select the text or object you want to turn into a hyperlink.
If the Link Inspector isn’t open, click Inspector in the toolbar (or choose View > Show Inspector), and then click the Link Inspector button.
In the Link Inspector, select “Enable as a hyperlink,” and then choose "A File" option from the Link To pop-up menu:
A File: Downloads a file to the visitor’s computer. (The file is part of your website; visitors won’t have access to your computer.)<<< </div>
    ...Choose your PDF file.
Note: The downloadability won't be apparant in iWeb - only when you've published the site will you be able to click on the link in a browser and test that the PDF downloads correctly.

  • General inquiry - Why ar .Mac and publishing/accessing iWeb sites so slow??

    Greetings,
I do realize that that general topic has been addressed somehow many times, in whole or in parts. I am just shooting for a general update on the subject(s).
I have grown fond of iWeb and just renewed my .Mac subscription. I am also a user of Dreamweaver and FrontPage. I just find the iWeb/.Mac combination so straight forward and... irresistible fun to play with!
BUT, before i commit more to that environment, I need to know - again:
    1. Why is .Mac/iDisk so slow in access?
    2. Correspondingly, publishing to .Mac and iDisk is slow. Why, actually?
    3. Difficulties in accessing iWeb sites published to .Mac/iDisk when using InternetExplorer (which, whether we want it or not, IS the predominant browser out there...). We know Firefox is better at it.
    4. Ultimately, would publishing iWeb sites to other servers (I have a couple of non-iWeb websites currently hosted elsewhere) make publishing AND accessing such sites speedier?
I will appreciate any advice, input, assessment.
    - Roger T

I think it's because it's more a social server with a lot of server side features available for .Mac users and iLife applications. Therefore there's a fair amount of server work when users use it for email, web sites with slideshows, backing up, etc. A commercial server will be much faster. There are othesr here that know more about servers than I and can give you a more technical explanation. But you're right, it is slow but convenient.

  • Move iweb site from one computer to different computer?

I have 2 web sites through iWeb on my macbook pro, one mine and one my daughter's. She made hres while we were on vacation (using my laptop). Now that we are home I'd like to move hers to her iMac computer. Is that something easy? I cannot risk losing my site. I suspect there are a million hidden files that will prevent me from doing this?
    thanks

What is in the folder within my iDisk->Web->Sites? Is this back-up of my folder you originally directed me to?
NO!! Your iWeb site is not backed up on your iDisk, what you are looking at here is your website, once published by iWeb.
As with all other data, you should backup the iWeb domain file as part of your regular backup schedule.
Unless it has been changed, the .mac backup does not automatically backup your domain file.

    HI
I have just spent 3-4 hours trying to work this script out and I did manage it!
Creating the templates was easy, I just used a second user account and published to folder.
Running the script was not easy for me I have never used Python before and downloaded stuff and tried many different things before I got it to work.
In all honesty, I cannot remember what I finally did, I was that pleased to get it working! Although I did miss out creating the thumbnails as part of the script. Luckily I spent yesterday reading Suzanne's website (www.11mystics.com), so I had an idea how to put them in.
Until there are 'simple' intructions on running this script, I would suggest that anyone who doesn't know Python (like me), either wait for Cyclosaurus (Go on!!) to write a script for it or be prepared to play for a few hours!

  • How to copy/paste iWeb site

    Hi!
    3 questions...
    1) How do I copy and paste my existing iWeb websites pix and text and links and so forth into a newly created iWeb website?
    2) How do I create new iWeb site name
    3) How do I delete the old site?

The only inane question is the one not asked. The best way to backup your web site is to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites2 file that is in the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Varkgirl has an Automator work flow that will copy it to another location of your choice. I believe you can find it on  Varkgirl's iWeb Tips and Tricks site or use this link to directly download it: Click Here. I believe it makes a zipped copy of the domain file and moves it to the location of your choice. It can take a while depending on the size of your site.
Since I have over 45 individual sites I use a backup application to backup it up after each time I edit and/or publish. After the initial backup the application, Synk Standard,it only backs up those new or changed files in the domain file(s). Much quicker that backing up the entire file(s).
If you have an external hard drive you can just drag the domain file to it after each use, replacing the previous one - if you don't have a backup program.
It's all one big learning curve here in the discussions. Some of us are just on a different part of the curve than others. Good luck.

  • IWeb-How can viewers export/capture photos from my iweb sites?

I am working with iweb 08 and created a website for fellow classmates to view old grade and High school pictures with names and want them to be able to export or capture copies of any photograph from my iWeb site for their own use. I want them to have a good quality photo that can be in a size from 5 x 7 to 8 x 10 inches like the originals.
How can they get copies of photos off my iWeb site??

    Hello Newbe here
Have been playing with iWeb and I believe that it can do what I want it to - however, I have been struggling yo get it to play ball.
I have a load of large images in my idisk-Public folder, however this is a bit cumbersome to navigate and does not offer the user a preview of the image. What I was hoping to do was to create a small website in iWeb and then place some thumbnails on the pages (with some text etc) and then links to the actual files on the iDisk/Public folder. For information there is about 2GB of files (many of which are 300dpi large PSD files at between 25-50MB each). As such, it would be impossible to embed them in the website and, I don't really want to have to upload all 2BG back to iDisk again in order to get links in the iWeb directory to work.
I was hoping that I could use the hyperlink to a file - but this does not seem to work and it just seems to embed the file into the website. If I go to iDisk/Public and try and point the hyperlink at a specific file - then it seems that everything in the public folder has the same web address (I have a number of sub-folders in the Public directory).
So just for total clarity - what I am trying to do is generate a website in iWeb, place a small JPG or PNG file (thumbnail) and then provide a number of links to a source file either as part of the thumbnail image or with some text next to the image (where the file is available in a number of formats - e.g. PSD, EPS, TIF, etc).
I hope that this makes sense and that someone out there knows how to solve this issue and is kind enough to point me in the right direction - before I pull all of my hair out.
    Thanks in anticipation.......

  • KMZ (Google Earth) files on iWeb site

I use MotionX GPS to record tracks of our trips.
I then email the track to myself. This results in an attached KMZ file.
Launching the file launches Google Earth and the track is nicely displayed with the start and finish pins at the top and bottom of the window.
I would like to add the tracks to my iWeb blog, so that a visitor could select a track and GE would launch (in another window, if need be) and display the track.
Does anyone (Old Toad maybe?) know how to do this in iWeb?
    Thanks, HNick

OK. I think I got it so far. I got the GE plug-in (really the API, right?). Got my magic ID number (long). I now have GE in iWeb.
there are two parts, the ifr part is web gadget and an api for embed kml link to the gadget.
What I don't understand is how to get the KMZ files (one for each trip - 6 of them so far) into iWeb, so that they can be opened in GE.
first, upload your kmz files to your web host.
It looks like Cyclosaurus' example uses the track as part of the GE api - in my case that would be a separate instance (?) of GE for each track?
that's correct, go to my GE example here: http://goo.gl/w307f
copy the url (it's a long url) and paste it in text editor.
search for &upkmlurl= , you'll see it points to my kmz file on my site, replace my url with an absolute url points to one of your kml file.
also search for &title= and replace what after that with a title for your track.
end product is your GE URL to view in a browser. - long url -
back to your iweb project, add an html snippet; copy + paste the following:
    <iframe src="put your GE URL here - the long url " frameborder="0" style="width: 100%; height: 100%;" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" allowtransparency="true"></iframe>
in iweb this will display as google map because iweb does not have support for GE plug-in, this also is true for browser that does not support GE plug-in such as ie. that's the fall back mode.
repeat the process for the other KMZ.
