IWeb Site, GoDaddy hosting

Been having major problems with GoDaddy, anybody had trouble with them
They are driving me nuts, It took 5 days of emails just to get the site up, then two JS slideshows can't be found, the problem is on-going!
Anyone?

Tom,
Upped the site via transmit, files went up no problem. After numerous emails to GD I finally got the site up. Only to be told by GD that to run the two JS slideshow pages I would have to upgrade, which I did. It took three days to 'migrate' (GD's description) the site to the new plan. Then zero. no site at all. GD keep telling me to change various settings, which I did, and the site is still not up. Today after a further two days of waiting the site is up, well of course without the slideshow pages, they are there but the links to the GD server cannot find the pages. So I am back were I started from.
Well actually it gets worse, the two slideshow folders I uploaded with Transmit, have the old names I assigned them before there was a problem (I re-named them, because I thought it may have been part of the reason they would not load). After deleting all the files from the GD server using Transit, and uploading the new files with new names, the links to the slideshows still have the old link names, also to make matters worse I now cannot delete the folders from the GD server using Transmit (a permissions problem the message says). I have of course contacted GD with the latest 'development' but I am hoping, probably in vain, you or some other kind soul may offer some insight!
Here's hoping
Thanks in advance
Anthony

  • IWeb and GoDaddy Hosting of Multiple Sites

GoDaddy users: I have the solution. I have 8 sites all hosted from one host account.
The key is you must have a separate FTP login for each website. In the past I would just use the root. Now, each site has its own.
    Examples:
    iWeb document name:memorialslive
    Site Name: meorialslive
    Server address: studiobuzz.biz
    User name: memorialslive
    Directory/Path: BLANK
    URL://www.memorialslive.com
    =================
    iWeb document name:ministrieslive
    Site Name: ministrieslive
    Server address: studiobuzz.biz
    User name: ministrieslive
    Directory/Path: BLANK
    URL://www.ministrieslive.com
    Etc.
What is also great is that the visit button now works too.
All is good. Apple is once again vindicated.

This is the answer to those of you having troubles with FTP uploads to your GoDaddy web host and maybe others.

  • Iweb/fetch/godaddy hosting-not loading

Need help. I designed my website on iweb and bought hosting thru godaddy, used fetch for FTP--tried to load the site and it wouldn't appear when I went to my site. I asked godaddy support for help. Here's how they answered:
Currently your index.html page is loading, but the code on this page is redirecting to remakeyourplace.com/REMAKE YOUR PLACE.html. You will need to add this page, or change the coding on your site. Unfortunately, we do not provide technical support with third-party scripting issues. You may wish to consult with a community forum online or do a search on your favorite search engine as other users may have encountered a similar problem in the past and may offer helpful solutions. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Can someone tell me in simple terms how to solve this problem? Obviously I have no idea what I'm doing, I just want to get my website up and running.I could really use the help. thx

"put" (the term fetch uses for loading) the entire folder to my website
That does not sound correct. The instructions tell you to upload two items: the folder which has the same name as you gave your site inside the iweb app, plus the index.html file which iWeb creates alongside that folder. The folder also has an index.html inside it, and that is fine, but in your server space you must be able to see two separate items, one file called index.html and one folder with the name you gave your site.
To avoid possible confusion, try publishing to your desktop, so you can clearly see the index.html file and folder which iWeb creates and which both need to be uploaded.

  • How to create iWEB site from OLD iWEB site? (Hosted)

Okay, so the domain is corrupt.
I have the site hosted and downloaded it via FTP, wondering two things, well one really, is there a way to rebuild the site since I have all the folders, assets, html pages, and images? If so, how?
I suppose I can rebuild it page by page but want to change the theme and since I have the folders, was wondering if there was a way I can take the downloaded pages and somehow drag them to iWEB or some other MAC WEB program.
Please advise, also, any other cool programs for iWEB or web design similar to Pulp Motion, Banner Zest, and how to make a site use flash without flash?
Am also curious what else there is out there so the site doesn't look so iWeb and have the ability to change the fonts on say, WELCOME< ABOUT, HOME, and also use flash.
Have used dream weaver, not to inspiring albeit the standard.
    Thanks

If you decide to rebuild with iWeb Chapter 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

  • Iweb and godaddy hosting

So I just purchased iweb and plan to create a website for when i travel to South Africa. Problem is I declined to sign up for .mac because I really only need it for 4 months and don't want to pay $99.
Godaddy.com seems to have some better prices but is there anyone here who can walk me through what I'd need to do to post my iweb creations to such a service? I need an ftp program right? Which should I use and how do I use it? Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Will

here here... I second that. I have had godaddy a long time, even while I had .mac. I got iWeb last night, and whipped up a couple images from MY trip to South Africa over the last two weeks!! interesting coincidence. take a look at what I did.
    www.jrog.com
I used the blog system to link in multiple photo albums, as I don't see myself creating much in the way of blogs in the conventional sense, but it is handy to be able to create a new image gallery.
Godaddy gave me free hosting, but I ended up paying for the basic service, some $36 a year for 5GB of storage and 250G of monthly data transfer. Pretty insane if you ask me.
I told the salesman at the apple store last night that I would go back to .Mac the moment they allow for personal domain name compatability. Even Google's gmail allows you to setup an alternate domain name, and send emails as that domain user.

  • IWeb sites new host options

    Any suggestions?

I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • Flash files in iWeb site hosted by Godaddy?

Anybody know how to use .swf files in an iWeb site hosted on Godaddy?
I'm trying to see how to use a few .swf files (flash) in my site which I built and maintain with iWeb.
I had set them up back in the .mac days and they were able to work. When .mac ended, I switched the hosting to Dropbox which worked fine (though a little slow) but I guess I hadn't checked those .swf animations. When I was preparing to move the site to GoDaddy recently, the animations weren't working.
My site is now up and running on GoDaddy and I'd like to get those animations working. I've googled/searched for information, but all the info seems to be about using idisk or .mac. Since those no longer exist, I'm having trouble figuring out how to do it.
Anybody know how to use .swf files in an iWeb site hosted on Godaddy?
    Thanks!

Upload the files in a folder to the root folder on the server using an FTP app. This page is about audio files but it's the same method for flash...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/AudioFiles/Upload.html
Then reference each file in an iframe code. See this page for more info...

  • Hosting my iweb site on GoDaddy, but not everything works

I uploaded my site (built in iWeb) to GoDaddy. When I view my site via .mac, everything looks and works as it is supposed to. When I went to my website after hosting it on GoDaddy, everything looked good and worked except for 3 minor things. Here are the 3 troubles I had. Any help on how to fix them is appreciated.
    1) One of my pages when clicked on says "page not found". It shows up though when I view it via .mac.
    2) I have three posts on my blog page, but only 2 of them show when clicked. The other one tells me "page can't be found"
    3) The search field I have on my blog page does not show up. It does who up when I view my website via .mac.

I fixed the "page not found" problem. I ended up just making a new page from scratch.
Now my only unsolved issue is the search field doesn't show up. Maybe it is only available on .Mac?!
I also noticed on my blog that the comments doesn't show either. I did set it up to allow comments. When viewed via .Mac, the comments area is there. When I view my site after publishing to GoDaddy, it doesn't show that comments are allowed. I only noticed this because a friend who visited my site told me to put a comments section on my blog and I said that I did have one. It ain't showing up, though. Anyone know if there is a fix for this?

  • Re-Publishing an iWeb site with GoDaddy

I am having a very frustrating issue when a attempt to re-upload my already made iWeb site onto a domain that I am paying for through GoDaddy. I started the site two years ago with a two year plan for hosting on GoDaddy. Everything was fine for those 2 years. Then, just recently those 2 years ran up and the web page went blank. So I payed more through GoDaddy to extend my hosting plan for 3 more years. Through doing this, GoDaddy gave me a new web hosting username and password that they told me to put in iWeb when i launch the site. So I went back to iWeb and when I click the "Publish Site" button, a notification drops down and says that the site cannot be published because the username or password are incorrect. However, it displays the OLD username and there is NOWHERE to change it to the new one that GoDaddy has given me. I have been through every menu I could find in iWeb (I am using the iLife '11 version) and cannot find anywhere to change this username and password. This is extremely frustrating because I am paying for the hosting time even when the site is not running. Please Help!!! THANKS!

@Shawn2375 - This may assist you with uploading the site: http://x.co/mXkk Also in hat article it links you to the FTP article to help reset the password if need be. Support is also open 24/7 to assist you as well. Thanks for posting! ^Colby Go Daddy Social Media Team

  • Retrieve iweb site from godaddy

I had to do a clean install on my mac pro - so could not alter my iweb site which is hosted on godaddy, using fetch I retrieved the all web site files in one folder, but cannot seem to get iweb to run them.
Is there a special place that I should put them?
    Thanks
    Mike

iWeb won't 'run' those pages because iWeb has no import facility so is unable to open html files and a published site, which is effectively what you have downloaded from GoDaddy.
Did you not backup your hard drive before you did a clean install? Did you not back up your domain.sites file to be precise? This is where iWeb stores all its data and is the file that you need to be able to make any alterations to your site. It is located under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites. Make sure it is your User Library that you look under and not your System Library, as you will not find iWeb there.
If you can't find this file then you are looking at re-building your site from scratch in iWeb.
This is a hard lesson to learn about backing up your domain.sites file, but if you have done this once you won't make the same mistake again.

  • Problem Uploading with CyberDuck to GoDaddy host site

I created an iWeb site that looks and functions fine on my computer (10.5.8). I successfully uploaded it with Cyberduck (3.2.1) to be hosted by GoDaddy on a domain I own. At that point, everything was lovely. Then, I revised the site in iWeb on my computer. When I uploaded it to GoDaddy with Cyberduck (overwriting the previous version of the site), most of the online pages had lost some formatting and many of the links no longer worked properly. At that point, the revised iWeb site on my computer still looked and functioned fine. GoDaddy help did some troubleshooting and concluded that the problem is with iWeb or Cyberduck.
    I'm stuck. Any ideas?

    Tom,
Please click on "The Concept" button to notice margins and spacing on that page. On most pages, the "Order" and "Contact" buttons in the box at the bottom of the page don't work. The titles in the "Archives" section don't link to the articles as they did in the iWeb version on my computer. What can I do to avoid these errors in future uploads?
Also, is there something I can do differently to make the brief "Welcome" QuickTime video (on the home page) work on IE?
I expect to add/change the site every couple of weeks. Is there a way to upload just the changes and not overwrite the whole site?
I value your help very much. Thank you for taking the time.

  • Multiple Sites w/ GoDaddy Host

I created a website with iWeb, bought a domain name and hosting space from GoDaddy, published the site to a folder and uploaded it to GoDaddy with Fetch. Everything worked fine. I created another user account on my computer as a way to create another website with iWeb and keep it separate from the first one (a suggestion I got on these boards, by the way), created my site, bought another domain name from GoDaddy for that site, and now I want to upload it to my GoDaddy hosting space (the hosting account I got allows you to upload many sites to it if you want to). My concern is that when you upload the site that iWeb created from the published folder, you upload the index.html file and the folder iWeb created with the files for your site. iWeb always creates an index.html file for each web site. So there is already a file in my hosting space called index.html. When I upload the second site, is that going to somehow confuse or mess up the first one?

When you go to godaddy.com and click on the link that tells you about their various hosting plans, they have a comparison of plan features. They have Economy, Deluxe, & Premium. The last two allow Unlimited Sites and describe this as "Multiple Websites may be hosted within a single hosting account sharing the same disk space and bandwidth quotas."
I have one site up there under a domain name, so there is an index.html file and a folder with all the other files for that site. I bought another domain name for my second site, but I'm not sure yet how they will be differentiated when they are sharing the same disk space. My concern is that when I upload the second site, it too will have an index.html file that needs to go up, and will that overwrite the first one already up there and mess up that first site?
This is my first time using a program like iWeb to make a site. In the past (and that was a long time ago) I wrote my own html from scratch, and had control over what I named that first page that pointed to all the others.

  • Hosting for IWeb Site

I created a beatiful website using iWeb - don't get me wrong, .Mac is great, but not what I am needing to promote my business. What are my options for getting my iWeb site onto the WWW? What hosts are out there that are compatible with iWeb?
    Thanks,
    Craig

nearly every host allows you to get your site online for iweb! common ones include:
    http://yahoo.com http://godaddy.com http://1and.com http://strato.de
depending on your country - there might be better hosts!

  • I made a free website using iweb and my host is dropbox but it is not showing in every search engine,i have to use a proxy for my site to pop up

i made a free website using iweb and my host is dropbox but it is not showing in every search engine,i have to use a proxy for my site to pop up

Possibly because dropbox is not really a proper webhost - it might be better if you went and signed up for proper web hosting from somewhere like http://www.godaddy.com or http://www.hostexcellence.com.
Have you told Google that you site exists?  If not, then you need to do so - http://www.google.com/addurl.

  • Trouble getting iWeb pages to hosting site

I am having trouble getting my updated iWeb pages loaded to my GoDaddy hosting web site. Every time I update a page in iWeb and then upload the pages by ftp to Godaddy, the home page either does not show up or it is badly distored or botched. Godaddy says it is an iWeb problem. The guy said something about "scripting". I am lost and frustrated. Help please!
    Thanks.

Thanks for the help. I have rebuilt the Index page, again. I tried the local folder, saved to Sites on the Mac. Then I uploaded just the index page directly to Godaddy using the ftp in my file manager, but this time nothing.
I went back to the iWeb ftp to upload the Index page to the subfolder in my root directory on GoDaddy and moved all the files I could find to the root. THis time I have some of the elements of the index page in place (pictures, links) but none of the template background, colors, or fonts. All the other pages are OK.
Here is my home page: http://www.hijinkscotties.com
Did I miss an iWeb update that has changed anything in the program? Is this a scripting issue? (Whatever that means?)
    Thanks-
