Iweb site not publishing

I modified my web site and I am trying to publish it but it will not publish any change. I am not using mobile me but ftp publishing

Publish your site to a local folder and launch this in the browser by double clicking the index.html file to see if the changes are present in this version. If they are then your problem is with FTP.
Always empty your browser cache after updating and before visiting your published site.

  • Podcasting on an iWeb site not published to .mac

Hi, I have created a website with iWeb which is hosted externally to .Mac. Everything works fine except I created a podcast (m4a file) which I'd like to include on my site. Can anyone let me know the steps I need to take to get this to be available to people using any PC when they visit my website? Do I need to convert it to another file type, embed a plug-in or whatever? Please explain in idiot proof terms as I'm a novice at this! Many thanks.

.m4a is a pretty standard file format. Sometimes PC users have better luck when they change the extension of the file to .mp4. But I'm not recommending this approach.
Here's where I am going with this... If you publish any kind of media file with iWeb -- video or audio -- iWeb will by default use (or expect to use) QuickTime to play them. This is true whether the site is being viewed on a PC or a Mac. The QuickTime coding is right there in the iWeb generated HTML files. Therefore, as long as your PC viewers have QuickTime installed (the latest version of QuickTime7 preferably), they will have no problem with the .m4a extension files.

  • In iweb changes not publishing

Since changing from mobileme server to ftp server, changes to website made in iweb do not publish?

If you are uploading your website files using the iWeb FTP, any old, existing files should get overwritten automatically. Try switching to another browser like Google Chrome or Firefox to view your site.
To find the file manager you need to login to your hosting account.
You can use the freeware Cyberduck to upload files and manage files on the server but it doesn't allow you to view the files on your Mac in the same window as the ones on the server...

  • My iweb would not publish. I made a desktop folder. How do I publish the folder to iweb on mobleme?

My iweb would not publish, I made a desktop folder for my iweb pages. Now how do I publish that to mobile me?

When you have iWeb open, in the navigation column at left, click first on the NAME of your site that you wish to publish -- when you do this, you should have the Site Publishing Settings show up in the main window at right.
Next, from the popup choices next to "Publish to:" select MobileMe.
If this is the first time you are doing this, you will need to type in your MobileMe account (name or email address), and make sure the proper email contact address is input, too.
If your site will be public, you'll all set; if you need to apply privacy settings, you do so here, too.
Now, click on the "Publish Site" button/icon at bottom in the toolbar, or select the same command from the menu bar in iWeb, under File. For the first time, you should choose "Publish Entire Site" (and be patient, it will take a while). Later, when you make changes, use the "Publish Site Changes" (much faster).
When your site is published, iWeb will present you with a sheet window with options to immediate View your site online in your browser, announce it to others (via Mail), or just hit "OK."
    Gooooooooo iWeb!

  • Iweb site not showing up in firefox version 3.0

i recently published my iweb site to a folder and put it up on a hosting site, it used to be at .mac, but well...
anyway the photo album part of the pages is not showing up in the firefox at my work: 3.0
but it works fine in safari...
    any suggestions?
    www.thebeautyseeker.com

I'm having the same problem. I just published a blog with photo pages, but the photos do not load using Firefox 3.0. They show just fine using Safari. I've not tried it yet with Explorer, but friends who have logged in have not complained about not seeing the photos, so I suspect the problem is specific to Firefox.
Anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

  • IWeb will not publish to Mobile Me

I made several changes to our iWeb site last night and have published to the default Mobile Me location. While everything seems to publish correctly it obviously isn't happening.
All the changed page icons in iWeb remain red instead of turning to the published blue.
The old site is there but several pages/links are missing and the correct password for the photo galleries does not work.
Ideas on how to resolve this issue?
I am currently republishing to see is that resolves the issue. This is the 3rd re-publish.

  • IWEB updates not publishing

I recently procured a domain name with the intention of creating an IWEB site using mobileme as a host. With a domain name registered with GoDaddy, I published the site and after some phone conversation with GoDaddy was able to reach the site. In turn, the site URL showed as the following http://www.xxxxxxx.com/OurLifeIn...%21/Welcome.html although I had already made changes. When using "visit" in IWeb the URL is http://www.xxxxxxx.com/WesJansAdventures/index.html and does not show. The latter is correct. How do I correct?
    Wes

Please provide your real url so people can see for themselves what is happening.
As a general rule you should not name your top page in iWeb "index" as this may conflict with index.html files automatically created by iWeb and cause problems. Use Welcome or Home or whatever.

  • Muliple iWeb sites and publishing into folders

    I have 2 questions.
    1) I want to be able to have multiple iWeb sites that are unique to each other. Is there an easy way to do that?
    2) Related to the 1st question, I am trying to publish just one folder (or site) within the iWeb window. I imagine that would be easy if I knew how to do question one. But in the possibility that a iWeb would have multiple site folders within them, is there a way to just publish one to a folder? I am using iWeb to publish to an external webhost (not .mac) and havent been able to figure this out. I have always been able to just publish all to a folder and then just cherry pick what I want to ftp upload to the hosted site.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give...

  • Several iweb sites 2 publish?

I have created a first site and now that I have a better understanding of iweb I want to build a new site. I clicked new site and have published it to mobileme using different domain names. When i try and visit the site i am directed to the first site.
Is it possible to build a second site and publish with a site already published? The second site has a big long name with the first sites name embeded into the second site! Can anyone help?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Where are you hosting the sites?
Are both sites in the same domain.sites2 file?
Have you purchased a domain name for any of those sites and what method of domain name forwarding are you using?
Here's some info on Multiple Sites with Domain Name(s) in a Single MobileMe Account
Here's how to have multiple sites in a single MMe account with one or more sites having a domain name.
    A. All sites are in the same Domain.sites2 files
1 - only one site can use the CNAME method of domain name forwarding and it must the top site in the left hand pane of iWeb.
2 - the other sites must use URL domain name forwarding which directs the domain name to the site's full MMe URL, http://web.me.com/MMeUsername/SiteName, or, if there is no domain name, just MobileMe's full URL.
    B. Each site is in its own Domain.sites2 file.
Again, only one site can use CNAME forwarding. This presents a problem since CNAME forwarding directs the domain name to the basic MMe account URL: http://web.me.com/MMe_Username/ which uses an index.html file in the root folder of the account, iDisk/Web/Sites. Each time a new site is published or an existing site uses the File->Publish Entire Site a new index.html file is created in that root directory, iDisk/Web/Sites folder, directing the browser to that particular site. This file is what the CNAME method uses to find the site it represents.
Therefore some steps must be taken to assure that the index.html file in the MMe Accounts root directory always points to the correct site. This can be accomplished is three ways.
1 - don't use the CNAME method. Just use URL forwarding . This, IMO, is the simplest method as it doesn't requre any additional effort on the user once the domain name has been set up.
2 - use the following method suggested by Wyodor in this topic: Is it possible to have multiple sites when using ur Domain name?
    In iWeb domainfile 1:
Create a dummy site : _dummy
    with a blank page.
Create your working site : Whatever
    Add pages
Publish both Sites to the same same location on the same server.
Your _dummy site is now the default Site.
    Check.
    In iWeb domainfile 2:
    Create/Use your CurrentSite.
Move a page to the top of the Site and back. Publish the Site.
iWeb will create a new index.html file in the root of the server and from now on CurrentSite is the default site.
    Check.
From now on, never move your Whatever Site to the top of the list in the iWeb sidebar and never change the page in the _dummy site.
Simply do not touch your _dummy ever again. And never forget that.
3 - use Ethmoid's suggested method in Using two sites - setting one up with separate domain? or republishing the entire site that uses CNAME forwarding. Just making a minor change and publishing the site changes does not create a new index.html file.
The entire site must be republsihing in order to get that new site.
Or keep a copy of the CNAME site's index.html file on your Mac and replace it manually in the iDisk/Web/Sites fodler when necessary.
NOTE: the CNAME method provides a shorter URL: http://www.DomainName.com/Site_Name/PageName. CNAME does not have masking.
The URL forwarding displays the full MMe URL:
    http://web.me.com/MMeUsername/Domain_Name/PageName.
With domain name masking that will be shortened to:
http://www.Domain_Name.com for every page of your site.
However, with masking visitors will only be able to bookmark and enter at the first page of the site. If a page is refreshed the visitor is taken back to the first page. Also search engines will only be able to index the first page of the site.

  • IWeb Sites Stopped Publishing after Months of Success

I have tried everything to get my web sites to re-publish with only minor additions (and even some streamlining), but nothing has worked.
The error in publishing seemed to have become a problem directly after I paid for more storage space in .Mac and/or when I updated iWeb to 1.1.2. But this is merely speculation.
I have already tried the following:
*reallocating storage to my web site (I don't use a lot of mail storage)-
*publishing iWeb to a folder to check how larger the site is (can't find a problem there)-
*backing up everything on Backup 3-
*visiting a Genius Bar where we discovered a problem with one png (rollover error) and discarded a full page-the site published there once.
*returned home to make some additions to my sites-couldn't publish AGAIN-
*connected directly to our cable modem to eliminate any network problems, but still will not publish)-
*my husband agrees that we are not having problems with our network (airport etc.)-
*my dotmac account shows only green dots (all functioning)-
*I can still view my website even with changes through my dotmac homepage (wierd)-
*sent a letter to Apple support (no response)-
I need my website to be up and running again soon because I'm looking to advance my career. I have people looking at my site as a portfolio, but they cannot find the page!
    Please, help.

Ok! Don't worry... At some point I was also lost. And I'm here to help, or at least try to...
Geeks say, they are like standard procedures you should go through whenever you have a problem, no matter what kind of problem. Some of those things are the Repair Permissions and Reset the PRAM. Another of those "standard steps" is to create a new user account and see if you have the same problems with the fresh created user. Anyway, step by step...
Just as a remark, I will be translating some things form my Spanish version of Mac OS X, so the names I give you might vary a little... Hope you still find your way.
    Repairing Permissions
This is actually something very easy, that you should do regularly. Maybe once a month or so. If you go to /Applications/Utilities/ there's an Application called Disk Utility. Open it and in the tab "First Aid", there's a button that says "Verify disk permissions" and another one saying "Repair disk permissions". Just click the "Repair disk permissions" and wait for the task to finish. After doing that, try to publish. When installing things, file permissions get modified and that might cause problems. In your particular case I might speculate that by installing something, some permissions for accessing your iDisk were modified and that's why you can't access it anymore correctly.
    Reseting PRAM
To reset PRAM turn off your computer. Now press the power button tu turn it on and press the keys "OptionCommand+PR" at the same time. I don't really know what the exact purpose of this action is, but lots of people recommend it. For more information check this Apple page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238.
    New User
Last but not least, you could create a new user account and check if you have the same problems on that new account.
    I hope this helps...
If not, let me know... I'll do my best to try to help!

  • IWeb '09 not publishing accurately

This is driving me crazy: Simple elements like words that I am formatting in iWeb with color, font, size, shadow, hyperlink definition, etc., while looking and acting perfect in iWeb, do not make the translation to the published version (publishing to a local folder). These same elements (words) either disappear, change color, change font, revert to pre-saved (or other erroneous) text, color, size, font in the published version. I've tried redoing the site from scratch (one page at a time), quitting iWeb then re-launching, re-starting my computer, removing possible offending elements, but to no avail. Any ideas? Is this a known flaw in iWeb? Helllllllllp........

Try the troubleshooting steps under "Fix iWeb" here.....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/WebMusic/iWebTips.html
The restart dumps out all the redundant files.
Three is a bug that has really bugged me which screws up changes in hyperlinks sometimes.
To get out of this one I have to delete the item(s), save, quit iWeb, restart my Mac, relaunch and then add it again.
Painful and slow but it works.
Maybe one day the iWeb developers will try to fix this one!
Apparently they don't seem to care that their incompetence is wasting a lot of my time. Either that or they don't actually use iWeb which is probably more likely as is evident from their many serious blunders.

  • Previewing iWeb site BEFORE publishing

Hello, I have a couple questions actually.
Where are these files and folders kept on the hard drive? When I try to search for the directory iWeb a signs to the site based on what I have titled it it comes up blank and yet in the online directory there it is big as life.
Second, how does someone go about previewing a site before publishing it?
    Peace,
    Robert

The web site does not exist until you publish the site. The components that iWeb uses are kept in the Domain.sites2 file located in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. That file is critical to your site(s) and should be backed up frequently.
To preview your site change the location of publication to a folder on your hard drive and open it locally with your browser.

  • Is it possible to have 2 iWeb sites (not just "Start Site")

I have a great functioning iWeb site, but it is my personal site and I need to create a separate one for my business. Is there a way to do this in iWeb? I don't want to switch back and forth between "start sites"

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes, you can have multiple sites. One way is to use iWebSites to create a separate domain file for your second site and switch between the two for editing and publishing. I use iWebSites to manage over 40 individual sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.
You can have multiple sites in one MobileMe account. They would have their own separate URLs as follows: http://web.me.com/yourMMe_accountname/site name. If you have domain names those would be the URLs you would forward to.

  • Portions of iWeb site not visible

    Hello
I'm uploading my iWeb site via Cyberduck to A Small Orange
And occasionally, some elements just don't show up. They load, and I can see them as they are loading, but then they disappear. For example, the book in the background here:
    http://gvkauai.jantonbusch.com/HFHGV_trip%3A_GV_10023_Homepage.html
What gives? Should I upload with a different program? When I upload, I do a replace all. Should I not?

For example, the book in the background here:
Do Safari > Window > Activity. Does the file for the book show up as missing? If not, then any visibility problems are presumably caused by something covering it up rather than any kind of uploading issue.
