IWeb sites Back Up

Perhaps someone can help me with this...
I'm planning to wipe my PowerBook G4 (and re-install everything) and am backing up files on my external HD. Looking for my iWeb files all I get is a file called "Domain" is this the only one I have to drag-and-drop save? How else can I back up these files.
Or, when I just open iWeb back up later once it's been re-installed, will iWeb automatically detach my files (perhaps saved on .Mac already?)?????
Thanks for the help!

Yes!
The only file you need to back up to preserve all of your iWeb work is that single Domain file. It is located on your hard drive in the /Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ folder pathway. Just drag this file over to your external HD to back it up. Then once you get your computer loaded back up, just drag this Domain file back into the same folder pathway. When you launch iWeb, your site will be right where you left it.
Congratulations for asking and figuring this all out BEFORE erasing everything! Always pays to backup!

i went to the application support folder on my mac HD and it didnt have a iWeb folder so i dragged the one from the time machine backup and opened up iWeb and it still didnt open my site.

  • How do I connect iWeb Site back to iWeb?

When my internal hard drive crashed I replaced it with a new one and upgraded to Leopard. Unfortunately I can't change my website because iWeb 08 doesn't know were it is located. I have found the files in my iDisk. If I delete all the files in the folder located at iDisk/Web/Sites/Site will I then be able to create a new website from iWeb. Or, how can I connect those files to iWeb?
    Thanks in advance.

    Bob:
Unless you have a backup copy of the domain.sites2 file you'll have to rebuild your website from scratch. iWeb cannot read the published site files, only create them. However, Chapter 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

  • IWeb site back up - except my photos

I've been waiting to re-publish since the Mobile Me launch, and my site has been a mess. Today I tried to publish, and everything seems to be sorted out with the major exception of the photo content of my photo pages. Images on pages are intact, as are text, video and everything else I looked at. Just photos on photo pages seem to be missing.
Does anyone else have this issue? Is there something I need to to to re-format my images? Are they still working and therefore should I expect to have issues for a while longer?
    Any info would be helpful.
(BTW, I hope this isn't covered somewhere else, the "Search" field is missing from my Apple Discussions pages so my only option was to post a new topic)

  • Retrieving iWeb site from online...

My macbook's HD recently needed to be replaced and all of the data was wiped off...
Is there anyway to reload my iWeb site back into the application from online/iDisk? Can the domain file in Application support be rebuilt from the published site/iDisk files? The latest version of the site is online, and this should be an option.
PS I've had a lot of lectures about the virtues of backing up...the Application Support folder wasn't automatically backed up like it should have been. So it didn't help.

Is there anyway to reload my iWeb site back into the
    application from online/iDisk?
    No.
    Can the domain file in
Application support be rebuilt from the published
    site/iDisk files?
    No.
To tell Apple how you think things should work, you can use the feedback item in the iWeb menu.

  • Can BC host an iWeb site

A friend of mine is currently using iWeb for her site and I was wondering if I could take her files and upload them to BC and host it for her there?
    Thanks so much!
    Annette

Ok, this was a pretty basic site. I don't even think she had a contact form; just a home page, about us, and a couple other pages that had a couple pictures and text.  So maybe that would translate over correctly?  I was doing some research and it looks like in iWeb, when you hit publish it gives you the option of sending it to another host so do you think I might be able to send it to BC?
Sorry, I'm very new to all this!  I use Muse for my sites but I'm trying to help a friend get her iWeb site back up and running (she took it down a few months ago) without it being too difficult for her.
Thanks so much for any help you can give.

  • How To Resore iweb Site?

The hard drive in my ibook crashed and needed to be replaced. I used backup on .mac and did a full back up and I have the folder with my iweb site backed up. My problem is, how do I get it back into iweb? My site works fine when I go to it on the web, but I can't get it to come up in iweb so that I can edit it. Does anyone know how I can restore it back into iweb?
    Thanks, Ken

Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over.
Did you backup your Home folder from before? You might luck out and still have your domain.sites file.

  • How can I get my site back (done with Iweb) on my new hard drive? I had to change my hard drive after droping my computer.

Can someone help me. I had to change my hard drive few weeks ago and lost everything. I made a site via iweb and my site is still on line but I don't know how can I get my site back on my iweb with my new hard drive.

Patrick ~ Welcome to the Support Commuities. Here's where iWeb's key Domain file (containing your site data) is usually located:
...But rather than backing up just that file, consider using Time Machine and/or SuperDuper.

  • Bring back iWeb site into iWeb

Someone deleted my iWeb project file (Domain) and I am wondering if I can bring back the version I have on my .Mac server (my on-line site) and be able to build on it in iWeb again, rather than starting it from scratch. thanks

No, it is not possible to bring the published iWeb files back into iWeb. However the content of your site (images, text, videos, etc.) is here:
    Finder > Go > iDisk > My iDisk > (wait) > Web > Sites > ...
So you could copy the folders containing your content from your iDisk to your Desktop and start to rebuild your website in iWeb.

  • Merge iweb sites from multiple user accounts on same computer

With the previous iweb version, my children created their own iweb sites on their own users, but all under my own .mac account. It worked great.
But now with the new "upgraded" iweb '08, that isn't allowed anymore.
So, I created a new user on our computer for all of us to use to maintain our multiple iweb accounts on.
How can I move multiple iweb sites from multiple users on the same computer into one user?

Each of the user's work in iWeb will be contained in a single file, Domain.sites2, which can be found in this location on the hard drive for each user account. You will need to copy all of these Domain.sites2 files to an external drive, or, at the very least, burn them to a disk to make them transferable from one user account to another. A flash drive also works great for this.
Once you have made all of these Domain files accessible from the new user account that you created, you will still have a formidable task ahead of you, i.e., publishing separate sites, from separate Domain.sites2 files, to the same .Mac account/directory. In other words, bringing all of these Domain files together for access by a single user account will not solve the problem. You may very well be able to solve the problem with things the way they are, but it will involve some shuffling of Site's files on the iDisk prior to publishing.
The method I'm going to give you has worked well for me. So far, here in the forums, I've read posts from (2) other users who were also successful. Conversely, I know of at least (3) other users who have been unsuccessful with this approach. I sure hope it works for you.
Open System Preferences and go to .Mac. Turn syncing off, if it is on, and leave it off.
Now, in Finder, navigate to the current Site files on your iDisk, following this path:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/NameOfSiteFolder
Drag the Site folder that is named for your site, (not the directory Site folder), back one level on the iDisk, into the Web folder. This is where some run into difficulties--you may get an error message that the folder is "in use, and cannot be moved". I have never gotten this message, and am able to move my Site's folders around with no problem on the iDisk.
If you are successful moving the folder, choose one of your other accounts on your machine, launch iWeb, and Publish all to .Mac. The existing site on the server will not be deleted. Now, go back to the iDisk and move that site folder, (the one you just published), back one level, again, to the root Web directory. Publish your next site, from your next account.
When you are finished publishing sites, just move the Site folders back to their original location on the iDisk--Web/Sites/SiteFoldersHere. All sites will be accessible from a browser using the web.mac.com/username/nameofsite url.
It is important to use the Publish all to .Mac command in iWeb. A simple Publish to .Mac command will not put the correct index.html file in place on the server.
Post back and inform us of your success.

  • How can I make my old Homepage take me directly to my new iWeb site???

Is there I way I can have it so people don't first have to "land on" a .Mac homepage and then push a "button" to get to the new iWeb site?
It would be GREAT if anyone knew a way to do this... I am so excited with my new site, but need it to replace my old .Mac homepage (or at least make it so people are automatically redirected to the new iWeb page)
    Anyone have some ideas??

  • How can I import my iWeb sites??????

I had a crash trying to install Leopard.
I have reinstalled the original OS with my new Intel iMac. BUT - how can I get my web sites back into iWeb? I REALLY do not want to have to recreate all these pages! It's insane! Is it just ME, or is there absolutely NO WAY to import my stuff in the folder (which I backed up, luckily)? Or do I have to recreate the sites YET AGAIN? Is there no way to make separate web sites so that they don't have to ALL be published in the same folder and have to save and resave and resave EVERYTHING over and over every time I do a new page, or update or whatever. It's maddening.
    Judie

    THANK YOU!
I just checked it out and it sounds too good to be true.
I won't do anything with it until I have Leopard installed, but it's great to know it's there and the PRICE IS RIGHT!
Also, about my install: We bought a 5 pack license and made a copy for me. SOMEONE didn't verify the disk and it obviously had a glitch. When it was checked it got to about 30% and I got a message that the disk wouldn't work. So I clicked whatever buttons I was told to and then got the blue/grey screen. It sat there so long I had to turn it off with the button. Perhaps it was trying to reset everything to before I tried the install, I don't know. So, the problem wasn't necessarily Leopard and my computer, but the disk to start with and perhaps I compounded it by not waiting for 28 hours for it to fix itself <G>. Anyway, I have to kick myself for not doing a back up of EVERYTHING, and my famous last words were "Nothing ever screws up with a mac."
Lesson learned. I will have a 500G hard drive next week and this will never happen again.
I will also disconnect all peripherals as I saw some people suggested that was causing problems. But, what is MOST annoying after the data loss is all the TIME that it takes to do this. I have work to do on this darned machine!
Thanks again for the RapidWeaver tip, tboelsklfte.

  • How do I get my Old iWeb Sites off my External HD (1 Domain file) and onto my new internal HD?

I justrecently had to replace my internal HD on my iMac. Before doing it, I backed up my 2 iWeb Sites (the Domain File) onto my external HD.
Now I have a new Internal HD on my iMac.
When I open my domain file located on my external HD, iWeb opens. Now I'd like to save the file back onto my internal HD.
How do I save my 2 web sites that I now see on the left back onto my internal HD. (When I click on "File", "Save", it just saves it again on the external HD, because it's reading the file from the external HD?)
    Thanks....
    Brian

You need to copy the domain.sites file from the external hard drive into your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on the new hard drive. If there is no iWeb folder in the Applicaiton Support folder create one.
Be sure it's your home library that you're working in.

  • How can I import my iweb site into iweb on my new laptop?

I recently got a new MacBook Pro and transferred my files over from my PBG4 12-inch (great little laptop). However my iWeb files/site didn't seem to transfer over to my laptop. I found the files of on my PBG4, and thought I placed them in the correct folder on my one.
Every time I open iWeb it asks to start a new site. How can I import my old iweb site into it and continue with it? Is there a way of doing it? I've a read a few posts some talk about the file 'Domain' in the Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
If I copy that file over to my new MacBook Pro, will my site be in iWeb again? I greatly appreciate some advice. Thanks.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Isotopecrunch,
    Welcome to the iWeb forums!
You are correct about referring to the Domain file; this is the file that contains all of your work created in iWeb, and the file that needs to be transferred to your new MacBook. There are some notes on how to do this here.
Take the time also to make back up copies of this file, and keep them in a safe place.
