IWeb Space Question

If I sign up for a .Mac account and decide to post a website via iWeb, is there a limit to how much space my web site can take up per year?
Thanks,
Regards--- jgurbisz

Well, if you look at my site, the long version url is http://web.mac.com/joeleong/iWeb/dreamery/home.html and the shorter version which looks better is web.mac.com/joeleong.
I have heard problems opening the shorter version url on PCs. So far, I have been quite OK. Fewer complains, more compliments.

  • Spaces question

I have a basic spaces question. I have spaces enabled, and it has one particularly annoying quirk. When I move an app winow around, I often sort of space out while holding the left mouse button down on the control bar (?) of the window. This causes whatever space I'm in to jump to space 1. Is this a feature, or a bug? If it's a feature, can I turn it off?
    This is what I do:
Grab an application window (any app) -> move the window to a new location -> dur out for a second while you consider life and all its infinite possibility, while still holding the left mouse button down -> spaces jumps from the space your in to space 1

Yes thats the preference, but now I don't get that functionality. Does your set up do what I described if you toggle that option? This perhaps is a bug. It is strange because if I do it with an app that is set up to open only in one space (say photoshop in space 4), it will switch spaces (usually to 1) and I have to diddle the space selector for that app in system prefs to get the app back into it's proper space.

  • Iweb issue - question marks ??

    Hello
I'm a new user to iweb and this is my first post.
Basically I have been getting used to the iweb app for a few days now and have started putting a basic website tigether as a kind of online cv for the work I do.
I currently have a small amount of web space (55meg) with my broadband account and have been using this to publish and test my web site.
I have been using Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer 5.2 on my G5 to view the web site.
Generally everything looks fine, but the odd question mark symbol keeps popping up. Ironically the site seems to look best in IE, but question mark symbols show up in all three browsers.
I wondered if anyone may be able to help with this ?
    Many thanks in advance

Hi rdfmusic and welcome to the iWeb forum!
Your problem is a common one when publishing to a non .Mac server but is easily fixed. Tom Gewecke has created a page that addresses this with the solution:
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/iwebchars.html
Tom has also set up a page with links to a lot of tips on using iWeb:
    http://web.mac.com/thgewecke/iWeb/1/Tips.html
Others have also put lots of other iWeb tips in their web sites, you can search in this forum for those who have been most helpful and click on the link to their sites.

hi, i dont create web pages and never will, so can someone tell me if i can remove iweb 08 from my macbook air ?
IM new to Mac so i wanted to free up some space on my HD. Will removeing iweb harm my system ? will it free up a decent amount of space ?

    See your last question.
IM new to Mac so i wanted to free up some space on my HD. Will removeing iweb harm my system ? will it free up a decent amount of space ?
Select iWeb and type Cmd-I. It will show you the size of that application. Its' 339 MB.
Is removeing the app as easy as dragging the icon to the trash bin ?
Yes, in fact it's the same. The icon IS the application.
BTW, the application is in the Application folder. Just in case you mistake the icon in the Dock.
And in case you regret your decision, the iweb application is on your Install Disk.

  • Storage space question

I am recieving messages that my storage space is maxed out.  I bought an external hard drive and connected that to the My Mac, and copied the files. What should I do next?

ALL hard drives fail - the question is, when. The files on both your internal and external disks should be backed up, then delete files (and empty the trash!) from the internal that you have copied to the external. You should aim to have at least 20GB free on the internal.

  • HSB Color Space Question - How Many Colors Are There In Photoshop

Hello guys, I have a sort of basic question that I have been trying to figure out for a few days.
I am trying to find out how many colors there are in the Color Picker  when the Hue radio button is selected.
I know there are 256^3 RGB (#Hex) colors, and I am trying to find some relationship when I am coloring with HSB color space in Photoshop.
It just confuses me because the Hue slider goes from 0-359 and the S and B goes from 0-99...
So how many HSB colors in Photoshop are there?  Am I missing out on some colors by using HSB color space in Photoshop as oposed to using RGB?
Are there the exact same amount?  Are there more and there are duplicates in HSB space mode?
Thank you all for all your help, much appreciated

The deficiency of such mathematical models is that they do not take into account noise and human perception. In an 24 bit RGB space (8 bits per channel) there may be 16 million colors, but this assumes that there are 256 discrete levels in each color channel. You could increase the number of colors by using a 48 bit space. In practice, noise will reduce the number of discrete levels, and this will vary with the camera and ISO used in that camera. For example, consider the Nikon D5000 as evaluated by DXO. At  base ISO the camera can resolve only 21.8 bits of color information and this decreases to 15.6 bits at an effective ISO of 2079 (camera ISO setting of 3200).
    http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/eng/Image-Quality-Database/Nikon/D5000
Then you have to consider how many of these colors can actually be differentiated by the human visual system. If you can't see a difference, it really doesn't matter. These differences are difficult to quantitate. One such effort uses MacAdam ellipses shown in this Wikipedia article on a CIE 1931 xy plot. How many of these ellipses are contained in the CIE xy space? The DXO site has similar ellipses for real world camera images.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacAdam_ellipse
See this RIT FAQ for a more sober real world analysis. The actual number of colors is in the millions, but likely not 16 million.
    http://www.cis.rit.edu/mcsl/outreach/faq.php?catnum=1#219
In a real world situation, I would not be overly concerned about differences between the RGB and HSB spaces, but one could increase precision by using a 48 bit space.

  • WSUSSERVICE.EXE Path White Space Question

Our security scanner is reporting that two services installed on our Server 2012 server is a potential security risk. The two services are:
    WSUSService.exe - Path: %ProfileFiles%\Update Services\Services\WsusService.exe
    WSusCertServer - Path: %ProfileFiles%\Update Services\Services\WSusCertServer.exe
The following specific references are provided supporting this position:
    CVE-2013-1609

    CVE-2014-0759
Is my scanner correct that these are vulnerabilities because the service paths are not quoted, or is this not really an issue for these specific services?
The following additional information was provided by the scanner:
Synopsis: The remote Windows host has at least one service installed that uses an unquoted service path.

    Description

The remote Windows host has at least one service installed that uses an unquoted service path, which contains at least one whitespace. A local attacker could gain elevated privileges by inserting an executable file in the path of the affected service.
Note
that this is a generic test that will flag any application affected by the described vulnerability.

    Solution

Ensure that any services that contain a space in the path enclose the path in quotes.

    Hi,
Based on my research, we can solve this issue by adding quotation marks at each side of the services path in Registry.
You can find the service in registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services, after that, you can expand the ImagePath then add quotation marks.

  • Iweb url question

    Hello everyone,
I am wondering if it's possible to create my own unique url name for my iweb site. I'm thinking of using godaddy.com or yahoo.com's domain hosting services to host my site for 2.99 a year, so that I could create my own domain name. Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Well, lessee, this all depends on how you want to do this.
Are you already hosting your iWeb site on you .Mac account? If you are hosting your site of your .mac account the URL will probably look something like:
All then you would need to do is to go to Godaddy.com and register a domain name (www.yourdomainname.com) and have godaddy.com forward that domain name to your .mac site.
Once all this is set up, anyone visiting your site could go about it in 2 ways. First, they could just open a web browser and enter "http://web.mac.com/<your.macnamehere>/iWeb/" and get to your site.
OR, they could enter the site name you registered (www.yourdomainname.com) and it would immediately forward the browser to "http://web.mac.com/<your.macnamehere>/iWeb/". For the rest of the time that person is browsing your site, all the URLs would look like your .mac url. This sounds to me like what you're asking for.
Now, if you want to have your site fully hosted on "www.yourdomainname.com" without the URL changing to "http://web.mac.com/<your.macnamehere>/iWeb/" once you start browsing the site, then that's a whole different set of instructions, cause then you'd need to buy hosting space and manually upload your site to that server instead of just using iWeb's built in "publish to .mac" function.

  • Iweb/podcast question

I created a podcast using Audacity. i forgot to put the artist name in the id3 tag. now when i go to iTunes the artist name says UNKNOWN. Who do i change this?
i used iweb to make my website, and used the podcast page to post my podcast. the RSS feed was given to me by iweb.
that is the only thing wrong with my podcast. do i need to edit the RSS feed? if i do, how do i do this?
    sorry for the newbie question.
    thanx,
    Mj Timothy Scott

No, unfortunately not. Not through iWeb, not by any means. If any kind of media can be displayed in a browser - be it audio, video, or still images - it can be downloaded or saved locally by the viewer.
    It's the old adage...Where there's the will, there's a way.

  • Iweb import question

I am working on a site that needs more horizontal space than the allowed 4000 px. Is there a way to publish the page to a folder, edit the width in a 3rd party program such as dreamweaver or taco html and bring it back into iweb?

By the way, if you do edit the HTML in any 3rd party app, you can utilize a program called "MassReplaceIt" to save the edits provided you can make the process into a repeatable "find and replace" function. This way, you can run this program after every publish and it will automatically put the HTML changes/additions back in for you if they were previously overwritten by the publish.
You can find out more and download the application here...
    MassReplaceIt
    Good luck!

  • IWeb Email Question

when I insert the email icon and configure the email, when people press the icon it opens their email app filled in with my inserted address:
    1) does iWeb allow me to do a web-email that can be done online rather than with an email app
    2) is there a way to add a security so automatic email (spam) scans don't leave emails (like adding the feature to put in numbers/letters that pop up)?

Actually, I did create a Gmail address for that. It does direct the email to that address if you click on the email icon.
The question really meant to be sort of like that: When you use iWeb with Podcast etc so users can leave comments then whoever leaves a comment first has to type in the numbers/letters so automatic spamming can't spam that comment. Now with the email icon, can automatic spamming sent you emails there (since there is no such number/letters typing) or is there a way to activate that option also with emails?

  • IWeb Backup Question

    Hi all,
I apologize if this question has been asked, but it's late and I kinda was hoping there was a quick answer.
I have a small website, nothing spectacular, that I created and mess around with on occasion. I made it with iWeb, and published it to my .Mac account. I had a hard drive crash a few weeks ago, and of course, I didn't have everything backed up like I should have. Now, since the site and it's pages are up in my 'sites' folder, it's still online, but my question is this: After downloading that folder from my .Mac account, how do I open it in iWeb again? When I open iWeb now, it just starts up from scratch.
    Thanks much,
    Brian H.

    Hi Brian,
You can't reopen that site again in iWeb. You see, iWeb doesn't open html files, like mainstream web applications do. It generates html when you initiate a Publish command, and it draws the resources necessary for this from a single file, Domain.sites. This Domain file contains all of your work, created in the iWeb app. It lives on your hard drive in your Home folder's Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites.
This is the file you will backup from now on to prevent this from happening again.

  • Color space question for photoshop cs on mac os10

I'm sure this has been beaten to death here before. I've been dealing with color space issues for months now, and I'm about at my wits end.
I realize that I should be saving in sRGB in order to get the same looking photo on the web that I get in photoshop. I go image-mode- convert to profile- destination space- profile: srgb profile. I've tried saving for web. I check "ICC" when I do that. When I just save an image as a jpeg (from a tiff), I check the box that says, "embed color profile." Still, my images look washed out on my website (which I made with iweb)- which I'm trying to put my images in a new web interface (flash palette) and my images STILL look washed out. The weird thing is, I NEVER have this issue when I upload images to photobucket or to the photography forum that I frequent.
What the heck am I doing wrong??
    Thanks,
    Hope

    >> images are still a bit washed out with a warmish/ yellow cast to them, particularly, my black and white images
Here is a simple test to help evaluate if the monitor profile is reasonably good:
Open a RGB file in Photoshop (flatten if not already flattened).
    Press M key> Drag a selection> Com+Shift+U (Desaturate).
Com+Z (to toggle back and forth).
If the unsaturated selection looks neutral you've got a reasonably fair monitor profile.
If selection has color casts (not neutral) -- you have a bad monitor profile
    +++++
Here is a simple test to help evaluate if a bad monitor profile is whacking out your Photoshop color:
Monitors/Displays (control panel)> Color> highlight AppleRGB or sRGB (don't run Calibrate), quit and reboot.
If the Photoshop colors are back under control, then the problem was most surely a bad monitor profile go back into Monitors/Displays> Color and Calibrate a good profile highlight (load) sRGB, or preferably, the monitor's OEM profile as a starting point.
If you are using a puck, it is likely defective; or your monitor hardware is the culprit...search it on Google by model number

  • Color Space Question For Printing

I have multiple newbie questions so please bear with me
Normally when working in photoshop, I tend to use the RGB color space as I need the use of filters and other effects not available in CMYK, Now when printing flyers E.g A4 Sized I tend to save the PSD in RGB (Without Flattening) and then importing it into a CMYK color space in illustrator and then exporting as a PDF, as illustrator gives me the option to create bleed as well as trim marks, I have never exported a PDF from photoshop as it always gives me the option of photoshop pdf which is kinda heavy.
My question is, is the process I use okay for printing? or do I first need to convert it into CMYK? or just export from photoshop itself?  Also, the other reason I use illustrator is if i'm making a business card with two sides, since text is better exported from illustrator.
Could anyone tell me a simpler process for creating for digital print? Especially if I need to do some items in illustrator as well.

  • Color Space Question...  using Lagarith Lossless Codec.

    Hi all,
I use the Lagarith Lossless Codec for all my source editing files importing into Premiere Pro and for exporting to my encoder I use.
My question is this.  I found that most of my sources are in YUV color space, so when I prep them for editing using VirtualDub, etc... I export them to Lagarith Lossless Codec in the YUY2 color space setting.  The size difference between using RGB and YUY2 is enough to make me want to just use YUY2.  So when editing those prepped files in YUY2 in Premiere Pro and them exporting the in the same YUY2 color space configuration, does it degrade in quality at all?  I heard somewhere that Premiere Pro ONLY edits in RGB color space.  So am I really messing up here or is it safe to do what I am doing?
    Thanks in advance!

Premiere Pro will keep the color space of the original media.  And many of the effects can now also operate in YUV space (They are marked by the YUV icon.)  However, any effects you use that are not marked with that icon will force an RGB conversion.
