IWeb taking forever to publish site!

I added a page to my website and am trying to publish it to my .Mac account. The rest of the site was created with iWeb '06. I've been trying to publish the changes all day, but it just hangs and hangs. Does anyone know what's wrong?
Thanks in advance!
ETA: OK, it published. But the hit counter at the bottom of the new page isn't there. I republished it and, same thing. What happened to my web counter??

The .Mac server is fairly slow and not very reliable. Sometimes when it hangs like that its because you're not getting connected to .Mac. You should try again and also try at a different time of day.
It can also be due to a problem with your own internet connection. If you are using a hi speed DSL or cable connection its worth while resetting the modem every now and again by cutting the power for about 10 minutes. I leave mine on all the time so I have a habit of resetting it at least once a week.
You can check out your upload and download speeds at ....

Thanks for the tips! I'm going to try again later tonight and see what happens.

  • How come my comments are visible in iweb but not on published site?

I published my site (after many frustrating attempts and publish errors) and had allowed comments. I made a blog entry and published to .mac and found out from a friend that that particular entry didn't have an option to add a comment. I tried to republish many times - I don't know how it happened but the comment option showed up eventually. I had the same thing happen again today so I tried publishing again but this time I tried publishing to a folder. Not sure if this caused the problem but now one comment on the blog disappeared and the rest are only visible in iweb and not on the published site - on the published site there isn't an opportunity to add comments where they used to be. Can I get the comments back on my site?
    Thank you for any help.

Oh, rats. Do I need to remove the folder that I published to? I'm not even sure where to find it. I have republished successfully with the comments still in iweb but they don't show up on-line. I'd really like to get them back on if possible.

  • Comments show in iWeb, but not on published site (on Mobileme)

Does anyone know how I can get the comments I see on my blog entries in the iWeb app to show up on my website when published (I'm using Apple's Mobileme service).
They have always worked in the past, and I recently redesigned the site. I changed the theme from a predesigned one to the blank white one (and then designed my own look). As stated before I can see the people's comments in iWeb, but when I published all the previous entries (in the new design), the comments aren't showing in the archive page nor the individual entry pages. Is there a fix?

  • Reloading iWeb with a previously published site

I published my Site using iWeb to my .mac sites folder, and then wound up reinstalling my operating system. How can I get my published site back into iWeb so i can continue updating it? Please tell me i dont have to start over.

Hopefully you made a backup or did an Archive & Install before reinstalling your OS....
If you did, then you should have a copy of your domain.site file, it lives here: User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.site. (.site doesn't normally show)
Place this copy in a safe place somewhere else, this is your web site! (This, as with all regular backup procedures is good practice when playing)
    1. You have made a copy of your existing domain.site file
    2. Open iWeb, the new version.... Add a new site / page, then do File > Save. (This tells iWeb where the domain file should be, you are creating a new one)
    3. Next quit iWeb,
    4. Swap the new domain file for your old one which you copied and saved somewhere safe.
    5. Reopen iWeb and you should see your old site.

  • When will iWeb allow editing of published sites?

I use iWeb with several colleagues and clients. I understand it is not meant for a lot of business or organizational use, but believe me, it is being used that way an awful lot for iWeb's great graphic templates, ease of manipulation with groups present, etc.
Its one drawback is that it cannot be used collaboratively. Only one person can do any editing, and so anytime that a single period must be added, the original author must do the editing, even if others have write access to the web file space. This makes for really clunky operation in the team-oriented web environment of all but the most personal of websites.
I realize that iWeb generates a bunch of files when a site is published, but we need a way to have iWeb read the published fileset and reconstruct the pre-published site so that it can be edited and re-published by someone other than the original author.
I know the iWeb team, like all Apple teams, can handle this technical challenge. And I know that Apple, wanting to create the user experience where things "just work" the way users expect, will agree that users have come to expect files that can be edited by other users using the same product.
So this feature should be a top priority for iWeb 3. I'm sure others would agree.

You are just talking to other users here. To tell Apple something, use this link:

  • IWeb Widgets gone from Published Site Hosted by GoDaddy

I have been using third-party widgets to create components for my iWeb (3.0.4 version) website. They are Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack items. (I copy to iWeb html snippet code windows the code from the Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack widget and hit "apply" and they work in TEST mode). I tested everything on my site to a local file prior to publishing the site to the internet. Upon publishing to the internet, none of these Pro-Pack widgets are visible on my site. They all functioned fine when they were in Local file "TEST" mode. They don't even appear as blank boxes or question marks (which has happened when I have incorrect paths). I wonder if it is the pathways to GoDaddy? I have spoken to GoDaddy techs about my dilemma and they only say the path to my webroot is:
    /public_html
This I don’t understand. Don’t I need http://www. ….. and other file references to get to the specific file in my webroot at GoDaddy?
Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack widgets I am using:
Apple Style Video Gallery (Youtube or Vimeo)
    Simple Hover Effect
    Panoramic Slideshow (Smooth Div Scroll)
    Photo Slideshow
When I created the Pro-Pack widgets for iWeb I used file links (through GoDaddy hosting) like http://www.wildmonkeysproductioons.com/images/WMP_VIDEO_PHOTOS/....specific photo.jpg
or---inside the cover path [in Apple Style Video Gallery (Youtube or Vimeo)] or a Youtube link in the video path (example): http://www.youtube.com/embed/LWWLM8QhVaw?rel=0
I also have non-Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack generated widgets like Youtube video widgets that are also missing from the website. I believe the problem is not with my Pro-Pack widgets but with my pathways to GoDaddy.
Does anyone have any suggestions or helpful ideas?
I do not understand website building very well and website code, for sure, I do not know.
    Dan

I took your advice and changed some file and folder names. I then updated my widgets to create continuity of connection with their files and photos in GoDaddy's File Manager. Now the BeyondiWeb widgets [Panoramic Slideshow (Smooth Div Scroll)] no longer recognize the path to them. No matter what I use as a path the link is broken.
GoDaddy says the following is the absolute path: /home/username/public_html/
    My user name: wildmonkeys
    Examples of paths are below:
    http://www.wildmonkeysproductions.com/public_html/WMP_Website_Banner_Photos/2013 _MCA_Symposium_GRAND_CANYON_Presentation-26_Dan_small.jpg
    /home/wildmonkeys/public_html/WMP_Website_Banner_Photos/2013_MCA_Symposium_GRAND _CANYON_Presentation-26_Dan_small.jpg
    /public_html/WMP_Website_Banner_Photos/2013_MCA_Symposium_GRAND_CANYON_Presentat ion-26_Dan_small.jpg
An example of a previously successful linked path (prior to file and folder name changes):

    Any ideas?

  • Photo Albums showing up in iWeb but not in published site

I'm publishing to an FTP server using Transmit. The site address is chrisfitzgeraldmusic.com . All of the other pages publish perfectly, but the photo albums page has never published correctly. In the past, some albums have shown up, others haven't. Within the ones that showed up, some pictures were displayed while others weren't. Just today I tried to fix this by deleting all the albums and putting in a single iPhoto album which I also rebuilt. The album displays perfectly in iWeb, but shows up as a blank photo albums page when I publish it to the FTP server. Any ideas? I'm at my wits end.

For some reason not all of the files are getting uploaded. Publish to a folder on your hard drive and open the site with your browser to make sure the photos and albums are getting created as they should.
If you using iWeb's ftp client to upload to your server then try publishing to a folder on the hard drive first and use a 3rd party ftp client like the freeCyberduck or Transmit to upload the files to the server. This might help also: Old Toad's Tutorial #2 - Uploading only those published new or newly edited files when using a 3rd party FTP client.
If you are already publishing to a folder what ftp client are you using? If it's not Cyberduck give it a try. It's well thought of here in the forums.

  • IWeb '09 upgrade not publishing site

With apologies - I have exhausted the forums looking for an answer that will work, and have found none.
I recently (I know I'm behind) upgraded to iLife '09. I just attempted to update my webpage using iWeb/MobileMe.
iWeb completely announces publication completion but the changes are not made when I visit the webpage through FireFox or Safari (or when I click view page now through iWeb).
What I have attempted thus far to fix the problem:
    - Clearing cache, cookies, and history.
    - Apples suggested resolution of discarding library preference files, iWeb folder, etc in the trash and republishing.
    - Upgraded all software.
    - Yes, I rebooted too.
Does anyone have any suggestions what-so-ever, because right now I want to throw my computer through the window?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
Go to File > Publish Entire Site
If that does not resolve the issue:
To ensure iWeb and your Site are functioning correctly publish your site to a local folder http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iWeb/3.0/en/24906.html
If the site looks good when you open up the folder version then we know the issue is not with iWeb or your website, but with the server you are publishing too.
Are you publishing to MobileMe or to an FTP server?
If you are publishing an FTP server you may wish to contact your host to have them remove the site manually so you can re-publish fresh.
If it is a MobileMe site you may with to contact MobileMe www.apple.com/support/mobileme.
    Hope that helps.

  • After recent Iweb 09 update, when publishing site Iweb hangs

    Hi,
After I did an Iweb update this week, I cannot publish my website anymore. The application hangs and has to be force quitted... I tried waiting for many minutes, without success. The Imac account is active and I can logon ok. I also updated my password yesterday via the web. This could be the reason as well. Still, the application should not hang.
    Please help.
    Kind regards,
    Remco

You don't state were you are publishing to - MobileMe or another server?
Have a look at the troubleshooting section on this page and the bit about deciding whether your problem is with publishing or if it exists in iWeb.

  • Automatic Publish Site Changes

Is there a way for iWeb '09 to automatically publish site changes everyday at a specified time?

You might be able to create an Automator workflow that would open iWeb and invoke the File ➙ Publish Site Changes menu at a give time each day.  Or possibly an Applescript.  As in those forums for help.

  • IWeb published site different than designed

I scrolled through numerous pages and was surprised I did not see this problem already described.
I design a simple (though long) page using iWeb. Text and images only. The images are embedded, but non are overlapping. It looks great as I am working on it in the iWeb window. I publish it to a folder on my laptop then view either by using "visit published site" or going to the directory and firing up the index.html. There are lots of problems - images have been moved, fonts are wrong (there looks to be a "format persistence" problem -- a type or size will continue for a few extra words. I edit, making sure the fonts are the ones I want and re-publish with the same poor results. Not very WYSIWYG at all! I'd try to edit the html code, taking the iWeb written stuff as a pretty good start, but it is not very pretty html.
So, at this point iWeb is a completely useless program! As many others are using it without this problem, there must be some solution. Anyone had this issue and found a way to fix it?
    thanks

What is the web address of the published site so we can see what you are referring to?
    While waiting for that:
A common reason why formatting on a published page will not match what you see in iWeb is that objects (pictures, movies, text boxes, etc.) are overlapping. When the web browser goes to try and interpret that overlap the results can vary (this can effect the display of fonts as well).
Go to the page in question in iWeb and click on 1 object. Go to Edit > Select All.
You will see all the objects on the page with their boundaries activated. Move any items that are overlapping so they have their own space around them.

I was working from my hotel and apperantly the fire wall was not allowing anything to uplaod, but I wasn't getting an error message from iweb, it would say that everything was published succesfully even though it wasn't. Once I went home and used my connection eveything worked fine.
