IWeb, templates, and WordPress

I created a nice simple website in iWeb 08, and it has served me well. However, I now want to upgrade and use a template from WordPress. Am I able to import the template into iWeb and then edit the bits I want, or should I be using something different altogether?
Any suggestions gratefully received here. I am migrating the site to a Tucows shop, and they support WordPress so should I possibly be doing it online rather than here on my Mac?
Thanks for any help

iWeb is not a webeditor for Wordpress. It's an application to create webpages.

  • Free iWeb Templates and other goodies?

    Hey, it's me again!
I was looking for FREE iWeb templates but I haven't been able to any find free ones or great ones.
Do you know where to get them?
I was also looking for other free goodies that are on iweb, such as little doodles and pieces of paper. You know what I mean?

    You're always appreciated :)

Always nice to hear from you.
As you, I did an extensive search (3 months ago) on Google and Ask, only to find out that there is a poor choice of great / free templates for iWeb '08.
There are 1 or 2 "user understandable" manuals on how to make your own templates, but I found it less time consuming to choose the "blank" template from a theme, adapt it myself with the tools provided in iWeb and then copy this "custom adapted" template.
I know this is not the answer you are looking for but it is the best I can provide.
Hopefully, someone else has found the gold somewhere...
    Kind regards,

  • IWeb '09 and Wordpress

So I just started a wordpress account and I wanted to use iWeb as the editor, instead of downloading one of the other suggestions on the wordpress site. However, I am unsure how to go about doing this/if it's possible. I was wondering if the FTP publisher would be the way to go?

  • IWeb '09 and WordPress blogging

As a volunteer, I currently have two web-sites for separate annual public events published by iWeb and hosted by GoDaddy. Each event is autonomous from the other. One event is for a history-based reunion in the summer, the other for a winter festival.
If I were to create a blog on WordPress.com (which I assume to be a free service) for each event, is there a way to connect the WordPress.com blogs to their respective event web-sites, so that each site could show a "blog" page in the header and allow a visitor to visit the blog without leaving the event's web-site?

I found this tip on the iWeb Unlimited tips blog, and was wondering if this could be used to do what I was asking about in my Original Post in this thread:
iWeb Tip #2 – iFrames in iWeb (Websites within Websites)

  • Error in Dutch iWeb template (and maybe others?)

In the dutch iWeb watercolor blog template there is an error. In the article overview, the main pictures from each article are not linked to the blog page. Only the checker frame is shown. Other templates like travel do work properly. It is possible to solve this by replacing the defective template with a working one from an other language. The webpage built with the corrected template will show the localised text in the language from the working one, but htose can be replace in the html page.
It is also possible to correct the xml file that controls the page.
The templates are located inside the application package in a folder called Templates. Each localisation has its own .lproj folder where the folder resides. The template (Watercolor Blog.webtemplate) itself is also a package containing a number of items. The index.xml.gz file contains the xml that controls the pages. If you replace the localised text in here, all blogs with this template will be like you want them.

I'm not sure what has happened to your iWeb installation, but it sounds like a reinstall of iWeb might be in order. I don't think you would have accidentally deleted the templates on your own. Though, I have actually heard of people losing their templates after updates, especially from iWeb 1.1 to 1.1.1.
The straightforward, no-nonsense recommendation from me would be to do a reinstall of the iWeb application itself. You DO NOT need to reinstall the whole OS X system. If you have the iLife'06 disc, then use that. If iWeb came preinstalled on your computer, then use your OS X install/recovery disk. But don't select to reinstall the whole system...just select "Install Bundled Software Only" and then customize for iWeb only. This will reinstall iWeb 1.0 in all likelihood.
Then download the iWeb 1.1.1 update dmg directly from Apple and apply it immediately after installation of iWeb...

Hopefully after this process, your iWeb templates will reappear.

  • IWeb template copyright

So I am making a widget that is really more a of module or addition (Ie it requires several pages in its own right) that customers will be able to buy. As it is now, I have that widget embedded in an iWeb template, and this is how I would like to sell it. The majority of users will just take the widget's html/javascript code and put it into their own pages so no copyright issues there, but some of the less adept may just want to upload my widget, pages and all, and use them in their entirety.
    What do you think?
I went through all of the pages that I would like to pass on - I have trimmed out a lot of the apple javascript as it really is not cross-browser capable and is fairly bloated. The code of the pages I would like to pass on mention nothing of copyright except for navbar.js which says:
    "// iWeb - navbar.js // Copyright (c) 2007 Apple Inc. All rights reserved."
A few of the other ones just say:
    "// Created by iWeb 2.0.4 local-build-20100911"
So maybe I can't use navbar.js, but I am fine with the other ones? What does all rights reserved mean here? Really appreciate the help. Not a lawyer and have no desire to be accosted by one. Thanks again. The answer may be in the license agreement, but I really don;t feel qualified to interpret that.

  • Does and one know if you can change the navigation menu at the top of the iWeb template pages?

Does and one know if you can change the navigation menu at the top of the iWeb template pages? I need to make the background a little wider.

It depends on which template you use.
You can also hide the default navigation and build your own which allows more freedom of design and is better for search engine optimization...

You can use that extension if you like. You need to make sure that your page that has the SSI have an extension that will process the scripts as mentioned above.
    .shtml, .php
I always name my SSI so I know that they are includes.
    header.inc.html
    header.inc.php
    header.inc.txt as examples.
If you are using PHP, then it should process the includes.
A good simple test is to add a SSI to a page.
    Do something simple like.
    <p>Welcome to our website</p>
    Name it welcome.inc.php
Then include it in a page, upload it to the webserver and visit the page.
I am using contribute for people to update areas of our website (hate it) and I manage the overall website myself.

  • The cool little features in iWeb templates

    Hi all,
I was just wondering how to get the cool little add-ons that the iWeb templates have on my site?
For example, iWeb has scissors on one of the sites. Their are also others like.. doodles, post its, "hello, my name is" I know I can simply cut and paste, but I'm looking for additional add ons. is there a stock pile of these somewhere on the web or maybe on my mac?

You can add scrolling banner text, blinking text, mouse rollover, Fancy Zoom, Show and Hide text and many other enhancements.

  • IWeb Bugs and a wish for the future. :)

    Hi there,
Two issues that I've found moving my photoblog to iWeb, and I'm wondering if they are bugs or issues that the community knows about:
    1. I've changed the template I used a lot - font colours, background, etc. Now when I create a new blog entry, it uses the old, standard template and I have to change everything again. Is there a way to make iWeb realise that I've changed my "default" template settings so all new entries remain the same? It seems not. This is my feature wish.
    2. Related to this, I solve this problem by just duplicating one of my existing pages and then changing the photo and content and date. The PROBLEM with this is where i think the bug exists. In iWeb, when I click Next/Previous, it goes between the different entries in chronological order, as expected... but when it publishes to .Mac, the next/previous buttons are really messed up, linking to articles/pages that are not even close to being near them in order. I've been able to determine that:
    a. Create three new entries in iWeb. Works good.
    b. Duplicate the middle entry, put it LAST in the order.
    c. The NEXT button on this new, last entry links to the third item, just as the original 2nd item did before I duplicated it.
Is there any way to make iWeb re-calculate the next and previous buttons before you publish it? Or even better, any Apple folks around that can confirm/escalate this?
UPDATE: It's also possible that iWeb is ordering the next and previous buttons based on the time the entry was created in iWeb, rather then the time specified on the entry. If you are porting older entries from a previous blog, this can be a pain because you're not necessarily putting entries in from oldest to newest.
Either way - the behaviour isn't as expected: next and previous buttons ordered by the date specified in the iWeb 'Entries' window.
    3. This is more advanced, but seems a bug none the less. I use .Mac publishing, because it's integrated and easy. But I also have my down domain, which I have configured to just "forward" to my .Mac folder. So, when someone goes to www.mydomain.com, the server connects to web.mac.com/me/iWeb/ and makes the request, translating the path. This works really great (save some initial headaches with character encoding), but comments in iWeb blogs don't work when you do this.
They work directly when you go directly to .Mac, but something about the comment system requires that the client browser accurately present the URL to the .Mac server, and in my case, it's reporting my domain name. As a result, when you click to add a comment, you get a "there has been an error" page and it dies.
If this little annoyance could be fixed in a point release version of iWeb, that would be AMAZING.
    4. Lastly, one more wish for the future. .mac domain hosting. Domains aren't just for businesses - lots of people have them for their blog/photos/etc now. If I could make my domain point to my .Mac web hosting without any messy translation, I'd be in heaven. I don't even care if I only get my single e-mail address on the domain - just the hosting would be so excellent.
    MacBook Pro 1.83 Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It sounds like it! I ported about 10 new posts from my old MovableType installation last night and am seeing the same behaviour - duplicating entries definately breaks the chronological order of next/previous.
    Apple?
Is there a place I can file a formal bug report?

  • Why don't I have the 'Fine Line' iWeb template?

I've seen it being used in most of the iWeb tutorials, and I would really like to use it for my site... But I don't have it.
It would be great if someone could help, I've asked in a few other forums and no one could give me an answer.
    Thanks a lot(:

If you are using iWeb 08, then the Fine Line template was not part of this and I think it is a new template with iWeb 09.
If you are using iWeb 09 and still cannot get it, then perhaps consider re-loading iWeb 09 from your iLife 09 disc and seeing if this makes a difference - remember to back up your domain.sites files before re-intalling though.

  • Missing font in iWeb template

I'm new to iWeb but am not new to Apple's. I've been experimenting with the Doodle template and whenever I launch iWeb an error message comes down saying that there is a Missing Font which is Handwriting-Dakota. The only option it gives me to resolve this is to find this font and put it in the font folder. My questions are these:
    1. Where can I go to download and replace this font because apparently I've deleted it or something?
OR 2. Where do I need to get to inside iWeb to maybe replace the default font for that template?
Please help! I'm driving myself nuts.

I think it's still worth trying to figure out why the font disappeared in the first place. I've seen several posts on missing fonts but no one has yet to determine why they go missing. (at least, not in the threads I've read

  • Can iWeb templates be modified?

    I last used iWeb to set up a travelogue in 2006. I have 3.0.4 ('09, I think).
I may be remembering why I didn't use a template before--because I wanted something I couldn't get with the templates.
Am I correct that I can't change a background or text color, or choose to center text which is flush left on an iWeb template?
    Karen

Jeff, you're a prince. I've printed out your last posts & dragged & dropped the 2 samples to my desktop, from which I can then use them I was able to do the web browser background instructions. It worked! Cool.
I'm sure this will turn out to be embarrassingly self-evident, but how did you 'copy the page background image and paste it into preview'? It has no 'handles' allowing it to be selected. Nor could I locate 'Preview'.
Now trying the paper maneuver you explained, I'm a bit stuck. What do I select for 'Page Background? I now have removed the Formal Theme text boxes, have changed footer pixels to '0', and have a horizontal rectangle of the ivory paper there. How do I make it disappear so I can then replace it with the size-able box as you describe?
By the way, I noticed right off in your video was how you changed the width of the page immediately. How did you choose 900--and I forget the vertical pixels you chose but will check again. I hate how small the page content size is. Is there a 'standard' size these days for website width & height?
    Again, thanks.
    Karen
