IWeb to Hosting company

Excuse me if this has been answered already. I have searched the threads and have not come up with my question.
I made my entire Jewelry design business site with iWeb including paypal so people can buy from my site. OT helped me to be able to use iWeb off my iMac or my laptop to which I am very grateful (works great) My domain name is through register.com which I have had it with them for several years. WHAT is the advantage of having a hosting company for my iWeb site? WHY is it a better way to go? If it is, I need one that I can still build on iWeb and just transfer the entire site including my paypal to the hosting company and one that you can transfer only pages that you have added to ( if that is even a option). Which is a good one to use and do any of them let you use Safari browser. Most I see you have to use Firefox. I just feel lost, like I have done something wrong with doing my entire site with iWeb.

There are several reasons for using a hosting service that is designed for commercial use instead of MMe. For one the speed will be uniformly faster. MMe have too much overhead on the server taking care of the social aspects of MMe that cause the speed to vary considerably.
Next is support. 3rd party hosting services will have ear to ear support. You don't get that with MMe. Just email or iChat.
Also technically it's against the MobileMe's Terms of Use to use it for commercial endeavors. I've not heard of any site being shut down for that reason but it's possible. The real kicker in this is if there's server outages that would cost you business you'd have no legal recourse.
If you do go with a 3rd party host be sure to specify Linux and NOT Windows. Two services that have good reps in this forum are Host Excellence and GoDaddy.

Iweb site for use with my own hosting company, not .mac

Hello,
What I would like to do is setup a photo album site in iweb but export it to ftp to my own hosting company.
I noticed on a link found here that if you do so you lose the ability to have a slideshow......will this effect the ability for a person to click on a picture to advance to the next picture?
I have tried phpalbum and looked at gallery program but I dont know scripting or programming so I am lost there.....iweb photo album page seems the best way to go.
Any advice would be helpful!!!

Hi PB,
That's not true. It maybe was using iWeb '06 but not iWeb '08. Just create your photopage, go to file=>publish to a folder, upload the resulting files to your server using your FTP application and you're done.
Everything works: slideshow, pictures overview, single picture.

Help! My iweb won't publish through my hosting company!

I have been bounced back and forth between my host and apple support re:iweb publishing and html codes that can't be added but need to in order for my server/host to be able to publish.....this is what my hosting company last sent me....
We were not able to do a perminate fix for all of the server for customers using iweb, since making it workable for you it causes problems for other people that are hosted with us as well. You will just have to remove that line of code from the top of your page

This code is not compatible with most to all hosting providers, if you decide to cancel and go with another host please check out MobileMe through the Apple Network. From my research they provide the best support for iWeb Application.

Well, no, you won't be able to edit code in iWeb itself, because there is nothing to edit - the code is not produced until you publish your site, so you need to publish your site to a local folder and then you will be able to edit the code by using either TextEdit or TextWrangler.
I think you should just ditch your present host and go and sign up for a hosting account with either GoDaddy or HostExcellence. A lot of people on the forum use both these hosting companies and have no problem loading iWeb created sites - they do not seem to have a problem where you need to alter code before you can publish.

Which web hosting company for my iWeb site?

I was going to let my iWeb site just die with MobileMe, but decided to go ahead and get hosting for it to keep it online. I'm trying find advice on which company to choose. After looking online I saw this one company called Little Oak is a mac web hosting company, and they are offering a 25% discount right now to host websites (http://www.thewhir.com/web-hosting-news/web-hosting-sales-and-promos-roundup-jun e-29-2012
Can anyone vouch for their reputation? Or can you offer up any other companies that I should consider?

I use Little Oak for my site, and I can genuinely recommended. They are great. And in regards to pricing, it is relative. You can find really budget and cheap hosting, you can even find free hosting. But you usually get what you pay for. I would stay away from free hosting if you want decent service. I really like and value the service I get from LO. And that 25% coupon looks like a good reason to try them. I've called or IM with them at all hours of the day, and always get great service.
Its true that most web hosting companies offer similar prices and packages, what you really want to see if a companies reputation for service, because when things go wrong, you want to be sure you are going to be taken care of.

Iweb pages hosted on a web server do not look right. Funny characters appea

I have designed a bunch of pages in iWeb. Published them and uploaded them to my web host. However when I view the files via the web, they are not correct. The most obvious is that quote marks, bullets and paragraph markers are shown with funny characters.
Take a look at www.dancingacademy.co.uk to see an example. Excuse the URL but its the only way I know of showing an example of what's wrong.
If I view the files locally on my mac (ie publish from iweb to a folder and open them from the local folder) then the files look fine.
It's only when they get sent from a webserver they look funny.
Any ideas what my web hosting company is doing wrong?

The server you are using is (mis)configured to force all browsers to use the wrong encoding. See this note (Server Settings section) for possible fixes:

I am trying to figure out what I need to look for in a web

then almost 99.9% hosting will work.
if you want a Flexx app with compiler then oo thats different

then you can go with pretty much any hosting, as long as they have
apache, Database serve and I think thats it.

Flash files in iWeb site hosted by Godaddy?

Anybody know how to use .swf files in an iWeb site hosted on Godaddy?
I'm trying to see how to use a few .swf files (flash) in my site which I built and maintain with iWeb.
I had set them up back in the .mac days and they were able to work. When .mac ended, I switched the hosting to Dropbox which worked fine (though a little slow) but I guess I hadn't checked those .swf animations. When I was preparing to move the site to GoDaddy recently, the animations weren't working.
My site is now up and running on GoDaddy and I'd like to get those animations working. I've googled/searched for information, but all the info seems to be about using idisk or .mac. Since those no longer exist, I'm having trouble figuring out how to do it.
Anybody know how to use .swf files in an iWeb site hosted on Godaddy?

Upload the files in a folder to the root folder on the server using an FTP app. This page is about audio files but it's the same method for flash...

I got a chance to look at it on a PC. Totally hosed up. It loads incorrectly then parts of it go blank.
I have a site that is based very much on one of the built-in templates and it works fine on the same PC. It contains only text boxes, image placeholders, and images with "picture frame" borders. Nothing fancy, no overlays, no extra code or anything. I haven't looked much at the other templates so I don't know if yours is mostly a template or how much you may have modified one or what tricks you may have done to get the look you wanted. Whatever it is, IE does not like it. Unfortunately, you can't really ignore them as was suggested; they make up a large part of your audience.

Im hosting right now with www.dailyrazor.com and I'm very satisfy with the helpdesk time respond and quality. But they don't offer Coldfusion VPS only linux. I almost went with HMS but they don't offer Plesk for coldfusion VPS and I'm not to experience on IIS so I found another one called http://www.kickassvps.com/ that offer what I'm looking for at a affordable price. they did answer my questions in a resonnable time period.

Hosting company does not support SQL query with OUTFILE clause

From my mysql database, I want to allow the user to run a query and produce a csv / text file of our membership database. Unfortunately, I just found out my hosting company does not support the SQL query with OUTFILE clause for MySQL database.
Are there any other options available to produce a file besides me running the query in phpadmin and making the file available to users.

Hosting company doesn't allow debugging on

If my hosting company (crystaltech.com) doesn't allow the coldfusion adminstrator debugging to be turned on, is there anyway I can still get the debug message to display on my broken page? I have an old cf app (MS SQL 2005) I'm trying to debug. It's currently on a coldfusion 9 shared server, written with fusebox. Any ideas? Thanks! -Jim

Yes. But iCloud can't host websites like the discontinued MobileMe could.

There are loads of hosting companies to choose from and in the end you need to choose the right one for you.
In the past I have used http://www.godaddy.com and I now use both http://www.hostexcellence.com and http://www.1and1.co.uk. There is also http://www.1and1.com.
Do a Google search and you can find more and also do a search of this forum where it has been discussed lots of times.

Website Upload to Hosting Company - SQL DB doens't work - Please help

I developed my first webpage using c#, VS2005 and SQL Express and it works fine in my Computer.
Tried to upload it to a hosting company, they have SQL 2005 Server.
I can surf through the pages but nothing that has to do with the database works.
Is there anything I should have done before uploading the site?
Please help.

This thread is 8 years old - there is no point to asking questions, regardless of whether you work for MS or not.
If no one answers, you are correct. But if someone responds, then shouldn't they be the judge of whether or not their unanswered question is important enough to not be ignored?
