IWeb too simple? Get Freeway!

For those who think iWeb may be too simple, please have a look at Freeway 4, either Pro or Express. Think of it like iWeb Pro, or more like Indeign/Pages/Photoshop in one program!
I've made 3 tutorial videos:
Image editing with Freeway - 30 mb
overal use of Freeway - 28 mb
image output options - 4 mb
Please note, the server is not too fast unfortunately!
powerbook 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I'm starting to think it is a bit too simple myself.
I have a web page that i built with Yahoo
Sitebuilder on my PC, but i just switched to Mac.
I'm getting ready to build my website over again.
Can i use iWeb and upload it my Yahoo account? Can
this be done with iWeb or is it meant only for .Mac?
You can do a search for that topic , it's been covered.
I believe you can host on another server rather than .mac, but you have to publish to a folder on your hard drive first.

  • At 60 and totally confused w/version . Not  clue with how to use it and how to change it. My question - If a new version of i-tunes can be offered why not the older version as being a choice? Too simple or just impossible to do? I hate to drop i-tunes.

At 60 years of age and totally challenged by todays technology I find it impossible to understand i-tunes Version 11. Don' ask me to try to try go back to a earlier version ( as much as I would like to). I have read some of the advice given, as well as intended as it is, I don't understand the process. I don't want to drop i-tune but I will. I am sure my library is not as large as many others who use it but it is just as important to me. This really saddens me.
I do have two question if some one can help me. First, someone mentioned that if I go to previous restore point this might correct it. Yes or no? Secondly, if Apple can offer us a new version to download why can't they offer an older version to download. Too simple or impossible to do.

You can still drag and drop a song into a Playlist, in the same manner as before. Simply use the left-click of your mouse to select-and-hold the song (left-click-and-hold, don't release the click) and drag it to and then drop it (release the click) into the Playlist you want. (You cannot drop it into a Smart Playlist, you can only drop it into a Regular Playlist.)
... and here's a screenshot dragging the song "Lazy Orbit" into the Regular Playlist "Sat 4th June 2011". A small + symbol also appears in the drag, but it doesn't show up on screenshots. If the move is forbidden, a red slash through a red circle appears instead of the + symbol.
As for the Albums thing; in the Column Browser, right-click anywhere in the Column Browser header (see my screenshots in my previous post) and a menu appears. Deselect Albums on that menu to remove Albums from the upper Columns:
... and for the columns underneath (with the songs list etc.), right-click on that header bar and once again, deselect Albums from the menu that appears. The Albums column will then be removed from the lower columns list.

Well, my advice to you is: do not think about what you think iTunes cannot do, instead, think about what you want to achieve - and then work out how to achieve it.

Can you connect to a wifi source on the device? Enable wifi in settings on the device itself. If you don't have wifi at home, there may be a local hotspot you can use for this.
The reason this happens is carriers don't want people downloading huge files that would slow their network as well as eat up your data plan.

  • Simple get vs entry processor for processsing 'get' requests

We're wondering about the best way to handle a simple get where we want to do some processing on the request:
    1. we might want to authenticate/authorize a proxy as well as an 'implied' user sitting behind the proxy
    2. we might need to look up the cache entry by modifying the key presented by the user: for example, changing capitalization
    3. we might even have multiple aliases for the cache entry but only store it once to avoid data duplication-- in this case, we'd need to resolve an alias to another name entierly.
Would it be best to use an entry processor to do this (a 'GetProcessor') or is there a better way using simple 'get' in the basic api with some server-side logic to intercept the request and do the processing? If the latter, can you please explain how to do it?
And please point out any performance considerations if you can.
    Thanks!

    Hi Murali,
You would probably be better off using an Invocable and InvocationService for what you want to do. The main reason for this would be points 2 and 3 where you say you might want to modify the key or have aliases (I presume you mean aliases for keys).
If you use a get or an EntryProcessor these two requests would be routed to the storage member that owns the key of the get request or EntryProcessor invoke. If you then wanted to modify the key the get or EntryProcessor may now be on the wrong node as a different node may own the new key.
If your data access requests are all coming from client applications over Extend and not from within cluster members then you could intercept calls to the cache on the Extend Proxy and do your extra processing and key modification there. There are a couple of different ways of doing this depending on what version of Coherence you are using and whether this is restricted to a few caches or all caches. Coherence 3.6 and above make this easier as they introduce methods and configuration as part of the security API that would allow you to intercept calls an easily wrapper caches. It is still possible in 3.5 but a bit more work.
Probably the easiest way on an ExtendProxy is to create a wrapper class that can wrap the real cache and intecept the required methods. You can do this by extending WrapperNamedCache and overriding the methods you want to intercept, such as get(). Actually making Coherence use your wrapper instead of the real cache can be done a number of ways depending again on which version of Coherence you have.
Are all your data access requirements just gets or do you intend to use Filter queries? Obviously any query made againsta a cache where the Filter was targeted at the Key rather than the value would fail if the filter was using unmodified key values. You would also need to cope with getAll requests.
If you can expand a bit on where the requests for data will come from (i.e. are they all form Extend clients) and which version of Coherence you have then it would be possible to give a better answer as right now there are quite a few possibilities.

  • I, too, keeping getting a pop up when in Safari that is from "tap-security.rubicon....  I saw the suggestion to turn off all extensions, but this didn't help.  What next can be done?

I read that several other people have been bothered by a drop down message talking about a bad certificate and perhaps non secure site when working in Safari.  I, too, keeping getting this pop up when in Safari that is from "tap-security.rubicon....  I saw the suggestion to turn off all extensions, but this didn't help.  What next can be done?

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

  • IWeb needs simple MySQL integration!

iWeb could be a fantastic program if it had MySQL integration, especially for those of us Mac users who like building CMS type sites. Better yet, iWeb would be the #1 web tool if it could build templates for Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress, etc., from within the App.

Thanks guys for the "heads up." However, I am extremely familiar with php, apache, and hosts.
I guess my suggestion deserves more explanation.
If iWeb contained a "Tables" and "Fields" manager, something similar to Navicat's MySQL tool, within its code base, then iWeb could allow a CMS or CRM to be built right within the app that doesn't require 3rd party involvement. It would also spark some great "security" opportunities for webmasters using iWeb.
It would allow a user to build a user table, giving the designer more flexibility in "who can see what" on the iWeb site. It would certainly up the viability of iWeb's use by Mac Users because it would better support "automated dynamic content." By iWeb having the ability to connect directly with MySQL (which comes with OS X), iWeb could become the Mac users choice for simple CMS and CRM website development / prototyping.
I especially dislike the proprietary nature of iWeb's abilities, in that, I have to pay for an Apple Hosting account that is far too limited on features and offerings for its cost. iWeb needs work, and I think experienced webmaster input is important for Apple to better satisfy the needs / desires of its consumers.
Maybe that clarifies what I meant by this post a little better?
    Walt.

  • Battery too fast get low

just use 4 hour battery low battery

Some of the links below cover extending battery time.
Try this first -  Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My Windows 7 is in spanish and Premiere starts in spanish too: i get an error.

I'm using Windows 7 SP1 x64. I have Premiere Pro CS5.5 installed and up to date. Windows 7 is running in spanish (using a Language Pack).  Every Master Suite application installed runs in english except for Premiere. When i try to open a project, i get the error that you can see in the attached image:
And, even when i can continue using Premiere, i can't do much after that (can't add transition, render, or whatever).  My temporal solution is to change Windows 7 language back to english. This cause Premiere to run in english too and I don't get the error and can work with out problems.
    My questions are:
    1) Why does Premiere change its language without asking?
    2) How can I force premiere to start in english even if my OS is in spanish?
Note: i *do* want Premiere to run in english (even if i can run in spanish with no problem, which is not the case).
Thanks in advance for any insight.

And what did the error message say?

  • How do jpg files in a iWeb domain file get corrupted?  How can I stop it?

I opened up my Domain file to work on my site and several photos were replaced by a grey box with an X and a question mark in the middle. I close iWeb right click the domain file and "Show Contents". When I inspect those files i get this message.
*"Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."*
I did nothing to the domain file other then move it's location. All the extensions are still jpg or jpeg. I try changing them to png or tiff and I try to open them with every other image editor I have and still same message "Corrupt" file.
Some of these are images from iPhoto and some are images from Finder. Some of the corrupt files are the thumbs others are not. Unfortunately I do not have a back up of this last large edit and additional pages and I have only published the previous edit to a local folder.
I had this problem in iWeb '08 and in '09 while using 10.4.9 and iWeb '08 on my G5 iMac and now in 10.5.8 on the Macbook.
What could I be doing wrong? Will moving the domain file from the desktop to a folder corrupt the jpgs?

How can I get out of this loop?
Try deleting iMovie's preference file. This can be found in your user folder Library>Preferences. The file is named "com.apple.iMovie8.plist". Close iMovie before trashing the file. When next opened iMovie will create a new file with the default settings. You may need to change some settings to suit your own preference.
It's best to delete files from within iMovie - not externally using the Finder. But, rather than delete them, why not store your Events on an external drive - you may need to use some clips in another project later. Project files are quite small as they contain only text references to the various items (assets) that comprise your project - therefore there is little point in deleting them. Also, check out the "Consolidate Media" function in iMovie, which lets you move/copy everything associated with a project (including Events, music etc) to another location.

  • In iWeb can't get past the password challenge

I have been trying all evening to use iWeb to log in via FTP to my new Network Solutions web hosting site to upload my first web pages. I keep getting an incorrect password message from iWeb even though, using the same login credentials, I can  successfully login with FTP from my Windows machine so I am certain the login credentials are correct. Using iWeb it keeps rejecting my password. I am using Mac OS X 10.7.2 and iWeb 3.0.4
After a few decades using a Windows machine I have bought a 27" iMac for Christmas and really love it. This is my first encounter with frustration but I've tried everything I know. I have looked to see if there was a password file in the Home/Library/Preferences but do not see the iWeb file that has been referenced in earlier responses to similar questions.

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.

  • Exporting .swf taking too long - getting stuck?

I am a high school teacher, attempting to teach a few simple animations in Flash. The only action script students have written is the stop action in the last frame. I have one student, though, who has drawn a snowman and a tree using oval and paintbrush tools. Every time she tries to export as .swf (or pressing Ctrl+Enter) the progress bar stops half-way and sits. She's waited 5 minutes and hasn't had any luck. Her .fla file is only 1 mb so I don't think it's a memory issue. Is there anything else that's keeping her file from being unable to export as .swf?  The compressed checkbox is on in the export options.

There willl be issues if there's large soundtrack that has to be encoded in mp3 or too many (thousands) of symbols in the movie. Otherwise everything has to be OK. What version of Flash are you using, btw?

  • IWeb too slow! Gonna bail for Dreamweaver.

Howdy folks: This is certainly not a new problem, but my iWeb '08 sites load great and look great on Safari, but as we know most of the world is PC/IE. My iWeb sites are painfully slow on IE, even when there's minimal graphics. Is there a fix (i.e. an optimizer) that will help me? It's a great progam to work with, but unless I can get improved performacne, I'm going to have to bail for Dreamweaver. Help me, please!

i.e. image shadowing, mirroring etc., but when I implement these features, things load slooooow.
iWeb features like shadow and reflection do not alter the object they are applied to (Don't make them bigger in file size).
It's a piece of code telling the browser to show these features.
    class tinyText reflection
    class tinyText shadow
This process is done on your computer after the browser received this instruction.
Not all browsers are equal in performance.
Or sometimes it even can be that one or more background processes on the computer start draining resources just when you wanted to see that web page. (ex sync or backup over internet)
When we talk about loading an iWeb web page there are 3 things to keep in mind:
    - internet download speed : how big in size are all objects in the page ?
    - how well does the browser read and understand the code ?
    - how many additional supporting applications have to run in the background to handle specific content ?
As Roddy pointed out : a clean welcome page with one or more small (file size) graphics will benefit most from optimisation.
But : The more content (the bigger file size) to download, the less you'll benefit from code optimisation.
    So, test and adapt.
And keep in mind that unless you know what computer / internet speed / browser all your visitors use ... you'll have to make a guess. If don't like guessing, try Google Analytics (it's free) to find out all about your visitor capabilities.
IE still has a big world wide share but maybe 80% of your visitors don't use it...

  • HughesNet and iCal (iTunes and iWeb too)

I have a brand new HughesNet setup HN7000S - good signal (88 - 86 when it rains) - 2 Watt transmitter - Works great, in that it can move packets fast and without errors. So it is not the connection and the latency from East Coast to West coast is 680 - 900 ms range (ping from my MacBook Pro to a server at a rack in MdR CA). I use Dynamic NAT - Hughes does not want to say what hardware they use. Hughes will NOT answer ANY questions or give recommendations about IP, routing, static IP, and especially protocols or software these are "your problem" (actual quote from rep) - just is it up or down and how can we help buy more or pay your bill. I am in the sticks so this is my only option and dial up is just not going to cut it.
BUT iCal will not update: UPDATE ERROR to the server webcal://ical.mac.com/###/G####%20-%20group.ics failed.
iWeb and iTunes have issues (iTunes cannot verify purchase - so you end up downloading and iTunes takes it away).
    Any ideas?

Make sure that you have reliable backup copies of your important personal data files before you proceed.
I would recommend that you use an Archive and Install procedure to install Leopard: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545?viewlocale=en_US "This type of installation moves existing System files to a folder named Previous System, then installs a new copy of Mac OS X."
