IWeb updates, domain forms: DUMB feature!

This post is to ask for a workaround and lodge a big complaint.
First, the workaround, which will tell you what the gripe is about. I need to find a way to get the previous version of a website into iWeb, so I can upload it again. I downloaded the older website from my client's iDisk folder. I don't have the original DOMAINS file, so I can't open the old site. Is there a workaround?
I designed a website for a client who wanted to use iWeb, since it seemd to be easy enough for him. Yesterday, as the final step before approval, I changed the name of the site version that I created, so that it would not overwrite the official public version. Basically, I thought I was doing "Save As..." But, it turns out, there's no such thing in iWeb, so the REAL site is invisible to the world, in its old folder.
<Edited by Host>

Is there a workaround?
No. iWeb cannot import or read published site files, only create them. So you will have to recreate the previous version (if you have it published online) from scratch. However, Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing image, audio and/or video files in the published site in the reconstruction of the site. But you will need to have a published copy of the version you want to recreate.
iWeb does not support version control. If you want to keep different "versions" of the site then I suggest you use iWebSites to manage your site(s).
Using iWS you can make a copy of the domain file and rename it with a version number number. The original domain file will still be there for you to continue with.
Each time you want to save a "version" of the web site just duplicate the original domain file again, rename, etc., etc.
By the way this is a user to user forum. If you want to report problems or request new features to the developers do so http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html. We're all just users like yourself.

  • IWeb update fix domain update?

Has anyone tried the iWeb update yet? If so, does it fix the crash when updating the domain file? I'm not willing to be the beta tester anymore.

I've found what was causing the problems with my site update. Using iWeb 1 I went in and deleted the pages of the site that were based on the "Photos" template in iWeb. Then using iWeb 2 I opened the site. When it prompted me to Update my Domain file, I clicked Update and it went through like a charm. I'll now have to re-create those photo pages, but the "bones" of my site are still intact. I'm not going to try to Publish until I get the site rebuilt, and then we'll see if I've got other problems to deal with.
Hope this helps others with their issues!

  • IWeb update out

With other updates there is now an iWeb update available from Apple.
This update addresses issues when publishing to an FTP server and other minor issues.
If they are only 'minor issues' then iWeb will still be defective.
Anyone has the courage to install this update? Let us know.

Well, I was stupid enough to believe that this update would be an improvement and went ahead and installed the update. It isn't an improvement, it makes things worse. Apparently the result is what is described in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1955682&tstart=0
I suppose the posters had already installed the update.
Each time you add something to one site all other sites turn red. When you republish one of those other sites, the previous one you just republished turns red again.
    This is outrageous.
I would suggest to wait with installing today's iLife update.
P.S.: it seems that a lot of people are experiencing this same thing without having installed the updates yet. So is Apple interfering now from their servers straight onto your desktop?
Anyone with suggestions how to get back to the previous situation? Would it suffice to go back to the previous version of iWeb and replace the domain.site with Time Machine? It seems that even this may not resolve this new issue.
Roddy, Old Toad, Tom, what's your take on this? I am flabbergasted.

  • Incorrect Infopath content type update in form library after modifying Infopath form and publish it

I have an admin approved InfoPath form. I added new fields to that form and mapped those new fields with site columns. After uploading updated published form through CA, I noticed InfoPath Site content type for that form got updated (with newly added fields)
under Microsoft_Infopath group. This content type is also added in form library but somehow the new fields are updated incorrectly for this content type existing in form library (it doesn't show new fields, and shows one new field which is incorrectly
mapped with other column this is happening only in library).
    Things I tried:
    - Activate/Deactivate that content type feature
    - Deactivated feature, removed form from CA, re uploaded and activated feature
    - Removed those new fields and published and uploaded InfoPath form and then added those new fields and published and uploaded again.
-Deleted those fields from InfoPath and readded new fields and published and uploaded form but still the problem persists.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi Thanks for the response,
But Update all content types inheriting from this type is already checked.
That form library has multiple content types associated with it , different infopath forms get submitted there. What I noticed is that when I change the form and publish it, its corresponding site content type gets updated but the same content type used
in form library doesn't get updated properly. I went to form library and checked that erroneous content type, there were some columns missing and one column was mapped incorrectly. When I clicked on "Parent" content type, it was showing all the new Infopath
fields(updated content type). So I figured that Infopath site content type was getting updated correctly but it was not able to propagate those updates (in a correct way) to the form library. I also tried to edit that content type and tried adding existing
site columns which were missing but surprisingly it was not showing those site columns either, which were mapped from Infopath publishing.
The cause for this behavior is : changes/updates to the Infopath content type are not getting propagated to the form library and this is happening for only one infopath content type but other Infopath content types are getting updated.
I had to delete all the forms using that erroneous content type and then had to delete that content type from the library and then re-added that Infopath content type to the library and this time it was having correct content type (updated columns).
This is not a perfect solution for the production environment, sounds like it is a bug.

  • Update existing form

We've created a form on FormsCentral, and it's working very well. We'd now like to add a reset button to the form.  I know we can do this in Adobe Acrobat to the base form we created before bringing it into FormsCentral, but I don't want to lose the form information we already have for the existing form that FormsCentral is tracking.
Can we update the form we have without losing all the response information?  I suppose I could re-import the information into FormsCentral from an excel sheet or other if the existing information isn't carried forward, but I'd like some feedback on this before I start making changes to the form and the information collected.

    Hi;
It sounds like you are distributing your FormsCentral form in PDF and want to edit that PDF before continuing distributing adding a "Reset Form" button which you would do in Acrobat - is that correct?  Assuming it is, you could do this by doing a "Save a Copy" in Acrobat which will remove the Ubiqutization (enabling rights in Reader), you could then edit the form adding the "Reset Form" button, re-do the Reader Enabling and then send the form out.  We don't explicitly support editing the PDF but as long as you don't modify form in a way that breaks the submit you should be OK.
Regarding Importing your PDF back into FormsCentral and having to re-import your data into that new form, you would also lose the ability to edit your form further in FormsCentral and you would lose the URL to fill the form out in a web browser.  The Import PDF Form feature is best for existing forms you do not want to re-create using our design tools, but they don't have a URL to fill out the form, and are not editable.  You are going to get better results by editing the PDF in Acrobat and then re-ubiquitizing it.
Let me know if I understood correctly, hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Johs

Is that possible there was the field ZDATE in your form interface/ context and now it is not? I guess some source has changed so the field in the form (binding to the not existing field) cannot be processed. Otto

  • Can I update multiple forms with the same dropdown at the same time

I have 20+ forms that have a common dropdown.  Each form has between 1 and 15 instances of this dropdown.  The values in the dropdown are updated on a frequent basis.
Currently I have an identical Document JavaScript named 'UpdateDropdowns' in each form.
    function update_dropdowns()
        var aList = ["  ", "A", "B", "C"];
//Add any other dropdown choices in the var aList in the format shown
        getField("TradeNameDropdown1").setItems(aList);
        getField("TradeNameDropdown2").setItems(aList);
// Add any other dropdowns added to the form in the format shown
        // Open Log Console (Ctrl-J), enter update_dropdowns()  (Ctrl-Enter)
There are over 30 choices in my present iteration of var aList, but for brevity I've only listed the 3 examples to illustrate my JavaScript.
Currently when I have to update the dropdown, I follow these steps
    Open form
    Open UpdateDropdowns Document JavaScript
    Add the additional value(s)
Highlight and copy the updated var aList
    Close the Document JavaScript
Update the form in the Log Console
Repeat process for all forms (pasting in the new var aList to ensure conformity)
Is there a way to update all of my forms at once without having to go through this form by form process?

That sounds fantastic try67.  I have the most recent version of Acrobat Pro.
I'm unfamiliar with the process.  Will 'Help' be able to walk me through it?
I'm not in the office anymore, so not in front of the program.

  • Iweb update wont install

When I chatted with Tech Support because my website that I have been running for 3+ years wouldn't publish they had me download iweb update 3.0.2
When I downloaded it and tryed to install it I get the following error in the Destination Select portion of the install process: You cannot install iWeb Update on this volume. A qualifying copy of iWeb was not found in /Applications.
    PLEASE HELP ME!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What is the version of the current iWeb application that you are using? If you truly have iWeb 08 then you would have iWeb 2. To get the 3.0.2 updater to run you will need to have iWeb 3 (09) installed. That would be part of iLife 09 or iLife 11. But you may not need to upgrade your iLife applications.
Since you can't publish try the following:
1 - go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
2 - login with a bogus username and password like "test" and "test". This clears the caches.
3 - login with your correct username and password.
4 - launch iWeb and try again.
    Next:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.

  • Creating Iweb seperate domains for multiple sites DIDNT WORK

Hi! Any help would be much appreicaited!
I am creating mutiple websites in iWeb 09'. All 3 of my websites have been stored under 1 domain file on my mac. I have read numerous discussion boards stating the steps of how to seperate each of the created sites from the one domain file, into mutiple domain files. I followed the steps on this website :
    http://lmsdiweb.wikispaces.com/Saving+Locally
I moved the Domain folder out of its original location into a new folder on my harddrive entitled "Sites". Then i made sub folders within that folder and duplicated the domain 3 times and placed each copy in those folders. then i double clicked on the domain for my 1st site, opened iWeb, and then deleted the other sites i did not want on this new "domain" file i created and hit saved. This is exactly what the website said to do to create the seperate domain files for each seperate site. It then said repeat for each site, deleting the sites that are not needed on that domain.
All of that being said, it didnt seem to work when i tried to open the 2nd copy of the domain. When iWeb opened after double clicking the 2nd domain copy, it did not open and show me all 3 sites as it should have, it opened to show me the one site that i just "saved" after deleting the other sites for the previous domain i was trying to create.
I'm afraid i posisbly lost my other 2 sites. I backed up my first initial "domain" file which had all 3 sites within it on my external hard drive, and when i double clicked on that to make sure my sites weren't lost forever, same thing happened and only my lastest site that i saved on the 1st attempt to seperate domain files is visable on my iWeb.
Did i loose everything i created in my other 2 sites? How do i get them back? What did i do wrong? Any help is much appreiciated as i have a feeling i might have made a serious mistake and need some help figuring this all out!
    Thank you!
Also, I published all of my sites "to a folder" on my hard drive before doing this as well. Is there any way to take the published folder contents and put my site back on iweb for editing again?

With three sites in a domain file here's how I would do it.  Create 3 copies of your domain file and name them for the three website, i.e "website1.sites, website 2.sites, etc.
With the application discussed in the text below open website1.sites and delete website 2 and website 3 from it and save.  Open website 2.sites and delete 1 and 3.  Do the same for website 3.sites.
Then use the application mentioned below to open iWeb and select the website you want.
In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
NOTE:  iWeb 2 is not compatible with Mt. Lion and has trouble saving to the hard drive.  It's suggested you obtain iWeb 3

  • Report not updating after Form saved in Workspace in Hyperion Planning

Whenever a form is changed in workspace and saved, it updates the form. I then go to the report to print, the report isn't showing the updated information. I have to go to Essbase to calcall for the report to be updated. How can I get my reports to update as soon as the form is saved. Thx

A few things I would suggest you do to determine where the problem lies.
    1) Create an Essbase pull sheet in Excel that mimics the form and verify you see the data in Essbase -- you should see it just after your form is saved.
    2) Compare the dimensions on your report with those on the Form. I would guess your report has an upper level member that is not dynamically calculated -- if this is true then if you really want the report to show the exact data as the form then update the report appropriately.
    Good Luck,

  • Automatic update of form

I have a problem with form. suppose there is a table. this table is related with stock exchange data. stock exchange data updates after every second or two seconds. Now i need when the data of this table become update the form should be update automatically. can it possible without timer
    thanks

Well a timer is the simplest way and re-query the data - although a timer can involve additional network traffic that you might not want.
There is a decent PJC that Frank wrote that you might be able to extend and use instead of a timer - this Pjc works as a seperate thread in jInitiator so ensures no network traffic.
The PJC is the Timeout one available from the downloadable demos.
    Hope this helps

  • IWeb Update good for me - using 10.4?

Aloha - I'm afraid to do the new iWeb update as the last two QT updates have messed with my FCP. I'm still using 10.4.11 - and was told my issues with QT may be b/c of that. So - I was wondering if I should hold off on the iWeb update or does the operating system have no relation to iWeb updates?
ALSO - We just launched a new site using iWeb for our business - http://www.livingoceanproductions.com/LivingOceanProductions/Home.html -
We're an u/w imaging business in Hawaii - many of the movie files are not playing on the site - they show up with a ? sometimes - other times they seem to work fine. I made my own template instead of using the movie page they have - could this be an the problem? A couple movies always play fine and are around 12mb - whereas some of the smaller file sized movies take forever to load.
    Any insights?
    Many Mahalos
    Bryce

Hi and thanks for your replies! This page has problems with people:
http://www.livingoceanproductions.com/LivingOcean_Productions/REQUIEM.html - and 3 different people I know using Internet Explorer and Windows XP say that just a white screen pops up when they go to the page?
Other people tell me that when they go to it, there is a ? mark over the movie file?
Also - having troubles with pages that have more than one movie file - do you all think it is better to have only one movie per page? I was thinking of just having jpegs up so that if people click on a photo (thinking it's a movie file), it goes to a new page each time. Could this be my best route with the slow load times in iWeb?
Again - thanks for your comments.
    Aloha

  • "You cannot install iWeb Update on this volume. A qualifying copy of iWeb was not found in /Applications" How do I fix this?

"You cannot install iWeb Update on this volume. A qualifying copy of iWeb was not found in /Applications." How do I fix this?

Version 2.0.4 is iWeb 08 and direct publishing via ftp is not available in iWeb 08 and never has been.  You have the option of publishing to MobileMe, but you can publish via ftp, but you need to select the option publish to a local folder instead and then upload using Cyberduck, which is a free and dedicated ftp client.
If you want the inbuilt ftp function, then you will need to upgrade your iLife package to either iLife 09 which contains iWeb 09 or iLife 11, which also contains iWeb 09.  For this, you need to purchase both of these packages.  Either go to Amazon and try and get a copy of iLife 09 more cheaply or purchase iLife 11 directly from the Apple store.
This is what you will need to do and iWeb 08, which is the version you have, never has had built in ftp so that option will never be available to you unless you upgrade which you will have to pay for.  Upgraded and updates are different things.  Updates are just your normal run of the mill software updates and address bug fixes etc., whereas you will need to pay for full upgrades to other packages such as from iLife 08 to iLife 09 or 11.
