Iweb Updates

Morning all,
I am trying to update certain pages on my website. When I re-publish the site, it asks if you want to visit the site now and I say yes and it all looks great, all updates are visible, but when I visit my website normally on Safari or Firefox, the updates aren't visible. I have cleared my cache and cookies and history, no change and I have contacted 123reg, my hosting company and they say that I need to: rename (mysite).html to index.html
Their support agents said:
"Basically, the software you are using needs to be adjusted or corrected by Apple, or please can you make yourself aware of its full usage instructions from Apple as it seems to be creating an 'index.html' file with redirection code in it to other files, such as '(mysite).html'.
All homepage files uploaded to our packages need to be called 'index.html.
So, I have renamed the 'index.html' file with the redirection code that 'Iweb' has placed in there to 'index.old' and renamed your 'real' homepage file (mysite.html) to 'index.html'.
Basically there is no problem here with your hosting I'm afraid.
This issue, unfortunately is with the 'Iweb' software you are using and the way either the software, or the customer, is creating websites and uploading them in a non-standard way, and we would advise you to check 'Iweb' support forums for further advise if you will be using this software in future."
Now I am not technically minded at all and this unfortunately goes straight over my head!! But I have just checked my website again and it has still not updated. Can anyone help me? and in easy explanations please. Website created in IWEB, hosting via 123REG, published via FTP SERVER.
Thank you
Lclettuce

When you publish your site with iWeb what you get, as long as you are using iWeb 09 is your site folder - the one that you named in iWeb, a separate index.html file and an assets file.
123 reg are correct in that there is re-direction code in the index file because this sits outside your site folder and points in towards your site folder the index file in your site folder and this is how your site is then visible.
You don't need to rename anything at all with your site.  Basically, what will happen is that your site folder is uploaded along with your separate index file that sits outside your site folder and points in towards it.
What you could do is try publishing your site to a local folder - (your desktop) from within iWeb and then using Cyberduck to upload your site instead.  Cyberduck is a dedicated ftp client and if you use this, then you can see what you are doing.  If you use Cyberduck, you can also eliminate the site folder altogether, so you can upload just the contents of your site folder, which will get rid of the need to re-name any index files at all.  The site folder has an index file in it, so you don't need the separate one that iWeb produces.
It is not really an iWeb problem either - you just need to understand how iWeb works and what it produces in terms of files and folders when you publish.  Just ensure that the index file points in to your site and is sitting outside your site folder and you don't need to re-name anything.  Other than that, as I said before, just upload the contents of your site folder and not the whole folder and you should be okay.

  • Iweb update wont install

When I chatted with Tech Support because my website that I have been running for 3+ years wouldn't publish they had me download iweb update 3.0.2
When I downloaded it and tryed to install it I get the following error in the Destination Select portion of the install process: You cannot install iWeb Update on this volume. A qualifying copy of iWeb was not found in /Applications.
    PLEASE HELP ME!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What is the version of the current iWeb application that you are using? If you truly have iWeb 08 then you would have iWeb 2. To get the 3.0.2 updater to run you will need to have iWeb 3 (09) installed. That would be part of iLife 09 or iLife 11. But you may not need to upgrade your iLife applications.
Since you can't publish try the following:
1 - go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
2 - login with a bogus username and password like "test" and "test". This clears the caches.
3 - login with your correct username and password.
4 - launch iWeb and try again.
    Next:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.

  • IWeb Update good for me - using 10.4?

Aloha - I'm afraid to do the new iWeb update as the last two QT updates have messed with my FCP. I'm still using 10.4.11 - and was told my issues with QT may be b/c of that. So - I was wondering if I should hold off on the iWeb update or does the operating system have no relation to iWeb updates?
ALSO - We just launched a new site using iWeb for our business - http://www.livingoceanproductions.com/LivingOceanProductions/Home.html -
We're an u/w imaging business in Hawaii - many of the movie files are not playing on the site - they show up with a ? sometimes - other times they seem to work fine. I made my own template instead of using the movie page they have - could this be an the problem? A couple movies always play fine and are around 12mb - whereas some of the smaller file sized movies take forever to load.
    Any insights?

Hi and thanks for your replies! This page has problems with people:
http://www.livingoceanproductions.com/LivingOcean_Productions/REQUIEM.html - and 3 different people I know using Internet Explorer and Windows XP say that just a white screen pops up when they go to the page?
Other people tell me that when they go to it, there is a ? mark over the movie file?
Also - having troubles with pages that have more than one movie file - do you all think it is better to have only one movie per page? I was thinking of just having jpegs up so that if people click on a photo (thinking it's a movie file), it goes to a new page each time. Could this be my best route with the slow load times in iWeb?
Again - thanks for your comments.
    Aloha

  • "You cannot install iWeb Update on this volume. A qualifying copy of iWeb was not found in /Applications" How do I fix this?

"You cannot install iWeb Update on this volume. A qualifying copy of iWeb was not found in /Applications." How do I fix this?

Version 2.0.4 is iWeb 08 and direct publishing via ftp is not available in iWeb 08 and never has been.  You have the option of publishing to MobileMe, but you can publish via ftp, but you need to select the option publish to a local folder instead and then upload using Cyberduck, which is a free and dedicated ftp client.
If you want the inbuilt ftp function, then you will need to upgrade your iLife package to either iLife 09 which contains iWeb 09 or iLife 11, which also contains iWeb 09.  For this, you need to purchase both of these packages.  Either go to Amazon and try and get a copy of iLife 09 more cheaply or purchase iLife 11 directly from the Apple store.
This is what you will need to do and iWeb 08, which is the version you have, never has had built in ftp so that option will never be available to you unless you upgrade which you will have to pay for.  Upgraded and updates are different things.  Updates are just your normal run of the mill software updates and address bug fixes etc., whereas you will need to pay for full upgrades to other packages such as from iLife 08 to iLife 09 or 11.

  • IWeb Update - Publishing to MobileMe Problem

After running the 3.0.2 update I tested the app and all was well - or so I thought!
I don't use MobileMe much and decided to test the claim that it "resolves some issues related to publishing sites to MobileMe". Well, of course, publishing to MobileMe wouldn't work.
I resolved this by quitting, deleting the plist - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist. - relaunching and resetting the preferences. I also logged out and back in to MobileMe for good measure.
I never had any problem with uploading to MobileMe before this update. I wasn't even going to bother installing it because I never use the blog or podcast. I only installed it because I saw that another user had problems with iWeb not launching properly after running the update and thought I would see if I could replicate it.
Maybe one day we will get an iWeb update that actually works as advertised and contains something useful?

After I went through the steps mentioned above the published site had a few items missing in the header.
I published to a local folder to test it and this was OK. Then I re uploaded to MobileMe and this version worked.
I only use MobileMe for test sites so this glitch is not a disaster to me.
It would be worth while creating a small test site to troubleshoot this issue rather than using your main site.
I don't use the blog or podcast so I have no idea if there are any problems in that area.

  • IWeb update out

With other updates there is now an iWeb update available from Apple.
This update addresses issues when publishing to an FTP server and other minor issues.
If they are only 'minor issues' then iWeb will still be defective.
Anyone has the courage to install this update? Let us know.

Well, I was stupid enough to believe that this update would be an improvement and went ahead and installed the update. It isn't an improvement, it makes things worse. Apparently the result is what is described in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1955682&tstart=0
I suppose the posters had already installed the update.
Each time you add something to one site all other sites turn red. When you republish one of those other sites, the previous one you just republished turns red again.
    This is outrageous.
I would suggest to wait with installing today's iLife update.
P.S.: it seems that a lot of people are experiencing this same thing without having installed the updates yet. So is Apple interfering now from their servers straight onto your desktop?
Anyone with suggestions how to get back to the previous situation? Would it suffice to go back to the previous version of iWeb and replace the domain.site with Time Machine? It seems that even this may not resolve this new issue.
Roddy, Old Toad, Tom, what's your take on this? I am flabbergasted.

  • IWeb Update didn't solve iDisk quota error

I got the iDisk quota error while trying to publish a website from iPhoto with ILife '06. I found the posting saying the iWeb update (1.0.1) would fix this but it didn't - same problem. Where next ? Currently have lost all ability to publish photos to my .Mac site .....

    Have you tried this?

  • IWeb Update Keeps Crashing OS

Hello there. I just got a MacBook Pro. I got an alert I should download an iWeb Update. So I tried -- twice. My screen got dark (like a Windowshade being drawn, from the top to the bottom of the screen, progressively), and I got a message that I had to restart; when I did, I got a message that the OS had to been interrupted (or something along those lines). Anyway, I've been using a PowerBook for 5 years and never had this happen. Is this something with the new Intel processor or with iWeb or what?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    MacBook Pro 17   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Welcome to the discussions, Murdoch.
The first thing that it's good to know is if your iWeb application is in your Applications folder. Usually the errors aren't this severe but it's generally a good place to start. Otherwise, you haven't noticed anything peculiar about your system prior to the install?

  • IWeb Update and publishing errors

I have just installed the latest iWeb update and now I have a chronic publishing error of which I can not seem to fix? The error message states:
*+An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/Sites.rss”. Try publishing again later.+*
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have rebooted; reinstalled the updates; download "all to .Mac" and even "downloaded all to folder"...it is when I try publishing directly or via "all to .Mac" that I receive this frustrating error.

I too am having htis problem. The solution suggested can't be done for me as there is no 'Web' folder on my iDisk. Maybe this is because I set up my account a while ago, before iWeb was introduced. Maybe I need to get in touch with Apple to get them to create a Web folder for me. (I tried myself, but don't have privileges.

  • IWeb update fix domain update?

Has anyone tried the iWeb update yet? If so, does it fix the crash when updating the domain file? I'm not willing to be the beta tester anymore.

I've found what was causing the problems with my site update. Using iWeb 1 I went in and deleted the pages of the site that were based on the "Photos" template in iWeb. Then using iWeb 2 I opened the site. When it prompted me to Update my Domain file, I clicked Update and it went through like a charm. I'll now have to re-create those photo pages, but the "bones" of my site are still intact. I'm not going to try to Publish until I get the site rebuilt, and then we'll see if I've got other problems to deal with.
Hope this helps others with their issues!

  • Can my iWeb '08 site be fixed,or do I need to just wait for an iWeb update?

Ever since my "upgrade" to iWeb '08, the text in my webpages does not appear. I haven't changed any fonts or colors. I have had to put my website back to it's iWeb '06 version.
Cyclosaurus mentioned that my "text box elements has attribute style.visibility set to hidden" and that I might be able to correct it if I were javascript saavy, I should be able to turn visibility attribute to visible with a few lines of javascript.
How do I do this? Does anyone know any quick javascript that I could cut-and-paste, maybe within an iWeb HTML Widget, that could counteract the "attribute style.visibility set to hidden"? Perhaps I can do this until Apple fixes this Bug/Glitch in iWeb '08.
Can my iWeb '08 site be fixed,or do I need to just wait for an iWeb update? Please help.
    Thanks.

  • Can't update my website after last iweb update

Okay, since I installed the last iWeb update, I have not been able to udate my website. It was working prior to the update. Now when I make changes to my pages in iWeb and publish it, the website pages are not updated when I visit. Anyone experiencing this? I've looked everywhere to figure out the problem and I am stumped.

I have the same problem since updating to iWeb 2.04. I can't publish to a folder on my computer either. I've tried all kinds of troubleshooting steps: reinstalling iWeb, trashing caches and preferences, System Archive and Install, permissions repair, you name it. This has really shaken my confidence in Mobile Me as a reliable place host a website. Because iWeb won't let me publish to a folder as well as Mobile Me I can't even update the existing site files on my hard drive and use an FTP application to move them to another host site.
Does anyone know what the folder configuration in MobileMe is supposed to look like? I mine, there is a folder for "sites" with nothing in it. There is an iWeb folder with a sites folder in it too. There are files in there but I can't update them. Another strange thing is though I have two sites only some of the files from the second site show in Mobile Me.
I'm sure Apple is trying to fix these problems but I don't think they even know what the problem is yet. Meanwhile, we have to spend valuable time on this thing, and we're stuck because we use iWeb instead of a more main stream web page creation package.
I suppose there is a lesson in there for anyone who relies on their web site for their career and income.

    help!!

This is happening probably because the text encoding on your server end is set wrong. Or perhaps your FTP program is doing the encoding differently. This is commonlly seen when uploading iWeb pages to 3rd party servers and can be corrected.
Our own Tom Gewecke has a nice writeup about these strange looking characters that can appear. He also has some suggestions about what to check and what to do. Check it out and see if any of it might be relevant to your situation. If not come on back and we'll keep trying to troubleshoot with you...

  • IWeb update - republishing question

Since I built my site with the first incarnation of iWeb, and the update has been installed, will simply republishing the content change the images from PNG to JPG or do the graphics need to be reimported into the pages?
Does iWeb do the conversion upon import or upon publishing the site?

to clarify, many of the images that iWeb published are big (in file size) and going with a JPG compression versus PNG would be a big benefit to my site. I know you can't specify the format it exports to, but JPG would be best for most of the images, and I'm wondering how to get there - by reimporting or just by republishing.

  • IWeb update 1.1.1 will not install

I'm trying to install the iWeb 1.1.1 update and always at the end it says there was an error and the installation stops.
I have OSX 10.4.6 on an 800Mhz iMac, G4, with 512MB ram and I am updating from iWeb version 1.1
I have repaired prefs and re-started, to no avail.
    Any help much appreciated.
    iMac 17 800Mhz   Mac OS X (10.3.6)

Things have gone from bad to very much worse!
It is still impossible to delete what's left of the old iWeb folder. I have also tried Cocktail and that can't do it either and it is also unable to delete individual items. On one occation I got an error message,"code -36".
Worse still, if I try to open Trash the sysem freezes. I tried to move one of the undeletable folders from trash to the desktop and it now only shows it's title, "Elegant Blog.webtemplate" with no graphic. If I even try to move this file, the system freezes and eventually I have to restart it.
Other folders on my desktop vanish and then later re-appear for no apparent reason. If I do anything with the finder related to the desk top, it takes for ever.
I have concidered, (please no!) re-installing OSX, but I would have to save my old data and then how would I get rid of these undeletable files? Surely, they would be copied too.
    Please help if you can.
