IWeb uploads entire site each time I publish

I have 3 sites in iWeb .. 2 are working fine, but one of them uploads ALL the files each time I publish ... There are no errors showing ... all ok .. but always shows a red page somewhere once published. If I click publish again, it uploads everything and takes over an hour because of the video and media ... any suggestions?

I have 4 sites that I am creating on iweb 08
You're posting in the 09 forum.
To accomplish what you want , you should consider doing this :
Go to :
~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
where ~ is your Home drectory and duplicate the domain.Sites2 file as many times as neccesssary.
Give each file a descriptive name.
1. Double-click a file to open it in iWeb.
2. Delete the Sites you do not want, leaving the one you do want.
3. Do Save and quit iWeb.
Repeat 1 to 3 with another file.
You can now edit and publish each Site without the others.
For your convenience, drag the folder to the dock. Next time click it and choose the file you want.
For even more convenience, skip the steps above and buy --iWeb-- iLife 09. Then you can publish the Site of your choice independent of the other Sites in the file.

  • Why do I have to upload entire site each time?

Loving the iWeb stuff, except for one thing, and that is that when I change one of my hundreds of pages, I can't just seem to upload the few html pages, I have to upload everything.
One thing is I am using Adobe GoLive since I'm not using a .mac account and I don't know how to set up iWeb to upload. Even if I did, would iWeb only upload changed pages or would it not upload the entire site, every podcast, every media file, everything - it seems to when I publish to a folder.
Any refs or suggestions much appreciated.
    thanks

Yes, it's true....when you are not publishing directly to .Mac, the only alternative you have is to "Publish to Folder". This publishes your entire site to a local folder. You would then need to use an FTP program to upload this to your 3rd party webserver.
I have heard good things about an FTP program called CaptainFTP. It is available here: http://captainftp.xdsnet.de/ The only reason I have remembered it is because it has some sort of synchronization function to its FTP capability and can sort out which files need to be uploaded and which files already exist on the server. For iWeb pages, I believe you have to turn off the "by date" method of detection.
Anyways, check it out. Do a search in this forum for CaptainFTP and you will see a bunch of comments and tips for using it. Good luck! I hope this helps you out.

  • I am having a problem publishing iWeb9 to Blue Host. Program publishes but wants to republish entire site each time rather than changes. Help?

I use iWeb 9, for now, to publish a 1.45 GB website. I have moved to Blue Host and the site is publishing. But, after publishing and quitting iWeb, when I reopen the program it acts as if the entire site needs to be republished. (All pages are once again red.) While it recognizes the site exists, it tells me that it will republish the entire site, which considering the size is very problematical. It takes about seven hours. Blue Host's position, which is probably valid, is since it is publishing to the hosting site, they have no way to help. I really don't want to have to rebuild the site for scratch with new software at this point because that will be a time consuming job. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When iWeb creates a "site" it produces a folder of all the required files and an external index.html file. These two are uploaded to the root folder on the server by the iWeb FTP.
If the "public_html" folder is the root folder, the directory/path field should be left blank otherwise, the next time you upload files, they will be uploaded to the "site" folder and not the root folder. This means that you will have two versions of your site - one inside the other.
The problem is that most support techs don't seem to understand the above since it is not the "normal" way to structure a website.
The other way to publish files is shown here...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/URLs-Favicons.html
This is more in line with the "normal" method of publishing sites but will break certain links such as in the case of the RSS feed - if any.
iWeb also produces an internal index.html file which is a replica of the external one. Unlike most other websites, this index.html file is NOT the one for the "Home" page but merely a redirect to it. This is what confuses tech support people!

  • Do I need to upload entire site after every change?

Publishing to a folder, then uploading with Fetch. If I make a change in on one page (and my site has 11 pages), do I need to upload the entire site every-time? I make changes and additions all the time.
    iWeb 1.1.1.
Sorry if this topic has been discussed before. Thanks, Marcos

Marcos ~ Click below to read an article "Using Fetch with iWeb":
    ...it says:
"When you re-publish your website after making changes, iWeb re-creates every file, even if you just made one change on one page. As a result, if you are using Fetch's Mirror command to upload your website, every file will appear to be newer than the ones on the server, and all files will be uploaded again. This is a limitation of iWeb, and there is no way to work around it currently."
In September 2007 I asked the guys at Transmit about this and they replied:
"Transmit is in the same boat as Fetch. There is currently no workaround for this, as Transmit 3 was only designed to consider dates when synchronizing, not size. Transmit 4 will be able to compare sizes."
(The current version of Transmit is 3.6.5)
RBrowser has +Folder Syncronization+; click here:
"RBrowser's sync engine will automatically find your changes and publish your new and changed files only to the remote server."
...But perhaps you would have to buy the licensed version to get that feature:
"Absolutely unrestricted operations in all protocols (Local, FTP/SSL/TLS, SFTP-SSH), *including Folder Sync*."
...you could try the free version first and see if it has that feature.
Here's a comprehensive list of Mac file transfer software:
    http://www.macorchard.com/filetransfer/
By the way, when publishing to .Mac, only the changed pages are uploaded.

  • "Publish Site Changes" not working - publishes entire site every time

    Hi,
the last few times I've tried to update my site, the Publish Site Changes function no longer seems to work - instead the whole site is created and published each time - taking a couple of hours. Has anyone else had this problem? The changes are pretty innocuous, but this has happened three or four times in a row now. Any ideas on how t fix it?
    Thanks a lot.

Are you using iWeb's built in ftp client to upload to your server? Other users have found that using Cyberduck or another 3rd party ftp client that can upload only changed files will work where iWeb fails. You'll have to publish your site to a folder on the hard drive and upload all of the files the first time. From then on, as long as you don't delete the contents of that folder, you can upload only the new or edited files.
Web Site Maestro will do the same and optimize your files for faster downloading as well.

  • IWeb Creates Extra "Site" Directory When I Publish Using FTP

My website URL is, http://mysite.verizon.net/eboggess. My site is "eboggess." When I publish my "site" to my ftp server at Verizon, I get the following directory structure, which includes an extra "site" directory (eboggess): http://mysite.verizon.net/eboggess/eboggess/Welcome.html. I want to get rid of the extra eboggess directory. Is there a way to publish just the contents of my "site" directory to the Verizon ftp server, so that I have a sensible web root? Thanks.

Guess I'll have to tell him to rename his site into something really pointless, like "p", to make the url be domain.tld/username/p/index.html
The url he gives people for his site should just be domain.tld/username, right?
As for what appears in the browser address bar, I always wonder why that matters to anyone, but the way iWeb works, complete iWeb sites always show the site name. iWeb's ftp does not have an option to upload incomplete sites. If you want to get rid of the site name, you must manually change the site structure either before or after uploading. If you do that, any RSS subscribe links will not work. Another option may be to forward www.domain.com to www.domain.com/sitename.
Apple can be asked to provide more ftp options in future iWeb updates via this link:

  • Upload Entire Site

I run a 300+ page site that I need to make changes to on a
daily basis. When I upload, I send the entire site (just in case
there are new images etc. lurking in there).
Is this the best/only way to do this?

Which DW are you using? How many files are you typically
    changing?

Does anyone know how to do this, and can it be done in Dreamweaver? There is a photo that is used on a site when you first visit it, the next time you visit it is a different photo each time you visit. Can someone tell me how this is done?

  • Getting this error each time I publish.

The publish seems to go through ok but I get this error each time and MUSE shuts down.  I have attached an image showing the error.

Thanks for reporting this error. We've identified the problem and we've fixed it for the official release of Muse.

  • Outlook sync issues - downloads entire mailbox each time outlook

We have a user who's having a roaming profile on the Terminal Server environment.
Every time this user opens Outlook 2010, Outlook attempts to re-download his entire mailbox.
    Troubleshooting steps:
We have tried completely removing and re-adding the Outlook profile to the machine (including removing the OST)
We have tried setting the account up on another machine, and have experienced the same issue.
We have tried setting this user up with a new mailbox in 365, and importing his mail into that.
But the issue is same, can you please help me on this issue.

    Hi,
By "re-download his entire mailbox", do the emails get duplicated, or Outlook creates a new .ost file and sync?
“Move to folder” rules in Outlook may get emails duplicated sometimes, please try to disable all the rules in Outlook temporarily then restart Outlook,
check if it will download the entire mailbox again. If the issue doesn't exist with all the rules disabled, try to find the conflicting rules and add “stop
processing more rules” as you need.
The issue may also caused by some security softwares with a virus scanner which integrates itself with Outlook or a too strictly configured
firewall, please disable firewall and the Anti-virus program/Security program to start Outlook again, test if issue persists.

  • Web gallery synchronisation uploads all images each time.

It is just me, or is web gallery synchronisation clunky ? It seems to upload ALL images whenever a change is made (e.g., if I add an image to a web gallery, it uploads all of them again).
    Paul

I wonder if an upload is taking place. I see it taking much less time. I believe that the file is being checked for changes, and if the file is unchanged, then Aperture moves on to the next file. This is only a guess, but seems like a reasonable explanation.
For my part, I made synchronization manual. With an old mini, it is cumbersome to wait for sync everyday. Hope this helps.

  • Prior version to new one had facility to bring up frequent used sites. Now very frustrated, as I have to type in these sites each time I use the new system. I wish I had not upgraded! Now takes much longer. There is no stream lining here.

When I would use laptop before installing upgraded latest version of mozilla. I could go to frequent used site log and just click on a site and I would be straight into site of preference. Now this no longer exists with new version. I cannot find this anywhere, so now I have to type in each site I need access to. You have made it far less easier to use and it is much slower. Am I missing something here? Like google with there chrome version it is worse not better. I removed that too. Please advise otherwise your latest version will go the same way!
