IWeb - URL name problem

Quick facts: I have created a website on iWeb. I am going to host this site using Mobile Me. I have purchased a domain name on Go Daddy. I changed the CNAME on Go Daddy to web.me.com
On iWeb when I publish my site, it appears to publish just fine. The problem is that it duplicates the URL name. Instead of www.mydomain.com, it reads www.mydomain.com/www.mydomain.com. When I navigate to www.mydomain.com, nothing comes up. But, when I type in www.mydomain.com/www.mydomain.com, my website comes up.
Has anyone had this problem, and how have you resolved it? I am new to all of this, so if I have not used the proper terminology, please feel free to correct me. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you for your response. This was somewhat helpful, and I did re-name the site as you suggested. However, I am still having the same problem in that if I simply type in www.mydomain.com, I cannot get to my page. I have to type www.mydomain.com/xyz in order to get to my page.
I have gone to Go Daddy to try to get it to forward from www.mydomain.com to www.mydomain.com/xyz, but that does not appear to be working.

  • IWeb domain name for new website?

    Hello!
I am new to iWeb and have created a website and now have questions about publishing it. The site I am creating is a replacement for an existing website that I did not make. I want the domain name to be the same as the existing site (cscfarm.com) and just to replace the old one with mine. Now, I would rather not join mobile me because I don't want the confusing url name and I already have permission to use cscfarm.com. My question is, do I have to get the FTP address from the person that currently runs the website? And if so, since I am using iWeb '08, how/where do I enter the FTP address to publish the website? I know that if I had '09 or higher I could do it through iWeb but I believe '08 is different. Am I going to need professional help for this or should I just get iLife '11 OR is it really not as hard as it seems? Any help/suggestions is appreciated!! Thanks so much!

    Hi There,
BC does NOT host your domain.
You will need to keep it with your current Domain Registra or transfer it to another domain registra if you wish to close your account with Weebly. This has nothing to do with BC.
The EPP code is just a means to veritfy ownership of the domain and ensure such a transfer is approved by the owner of the domain.
In terms of BC all you do in the domain manager is to point all traffic or just web traffic to BC depending on your requirements/use of email etc.

  • How do I change MobileMe/iWeb member name?

We registered the iWeb account on my computer in my husband's name because we thought we would use it for family purposes only. Recently, I have realized that I could better use this account for my work. Is there a way for me to change my MobileMe/iWeb member name? I can change account details through System Preferences/.mac, but I am not finding a way to change the member name. I want to change it so the URL will be web.mac.com/myname instead of web.mac.com/hisname. Can I do this?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Technically speaking, using the MobileMe for commercial sites is against the TOU although we've not heard of any sites getting bumped for it. But commercial servers will be faster and more stable since they don't have to facilitate all of the bells and whistles of the MobileMe accounts.
You can purchase a domain name from one of the providers (GoDaddy.com is one many recommend for names and hosting) and have domain name forwarding activated from your actual site URL (http://web.ME.com/MobileMeAccount_name/your_work_sitename/index.html) to the domain name, www.yourspecialname.com.

  • Document links  a name problem

I am having an a href / a name problem after constructing my
newsletter for email dissemination. When I create the email and use
a href="article1" to a name="article1" it works on my computer to
take the viewer from the menu link to the document in the article
but when I send it out in a test email it attempts to find a
    location on my computer.
Help please so I can send out my email newsletter.
    Thanks

Hi David - yes, you and I both!! It has totally wrecked my data-base of Help links.
The more this issue is given air space maybe the better chance to rectify it. Surely it can't be too difficult to create a method whereby old URLs are transferred to the new system?

  • Iweb url question

    Hello everyone,
I am wondering if it's possible to create my own unique url name for my iweb site. I'm thinking of using godaddy.com or yahoo.com's domain hosting services to host my site for 2.99 a year, so that I could create my own domain name. Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Well, lessee, this all depends on how you want to do this.
Are you already hosting your iWeb site on you .Mac account? If you are hosting your site of your .mac account the URL will probably look something like:
All then you would need to do is to go to Godaddy.com and register a domain name (www.yourdomainname.com) and have godaddy.com forward that domain name to your .mac site.
Once all this is set up, anyone visiting your site could go about it in 2 ways. First, they could just open a web browser and enter "http://web.mac.com/<your.macnamehere>/iWeb/" and get to your site.
OR, they could enter the site name you registered (www.yourdomainname.com) and it would immediately forward the browser to "http://web.mac.com/<your.macnamehere>/iWeb/". For the rest of the time that person is browsing your site, all the URLs would look like your .mac url. This sounds to me like what you're asking for.
Now, if you want to have your site fully hosted on "www.yourdomainname.com" without the URL changing to "http://web.mac.com/<your.macnamehere>/iWeb/" once you start browsing the site, then that's a whole different set of instructions, cause then you'd need to buy hosting space and manually upload your site to that server instead of just using iWeb's built in "publish to .mac" function.

  • Cache, filename, url name, automatically

i use foxit reader open a pdf file, the final '''''url name''''' is xxxx.pdf, when i click the save or save as i get s'''ome strings '''as the fileneme for example, 529EDd01.pdf. the same as the name in the '''cache folder'''. So i think , first the pdf file xxxx.pdf is saved in cache , changed name as 529EDd01, then the foxit reader open it. then the name could never the same as the url name xxx.pdf.
i wonder could i change the saving name in cache automatically or
is there another way to solve this problem, (mimetype do not work).
(for the firefox browser is closed the cache would been deleted, so security is not considered much). Thanks for your attention. thanks very much for trying to solve the problem, for it bothering me too much.

I do not use foxit reader but most things allow you to choose or edit a filename when saving a file. If you download and save a file with Firefox you should get the opportunity to name the file.
    If necessary
    # disable foxit reader (Tools -> Add-ons)
#then navigate to the .pdf <br/>and Firefox should then have nothing suitable to open the file with and so will offer to save the file.
You appear to be using an insecure and outdated Firefox 7, you should update to Firefox 12, and also check and update plugins and add-ons.
The latest versions of Ffirerox will open .pdf files but you are still able to download and save them see

  • URL cache problem in UCM and sitestudio

    Hi ,
We have created Metadata Field : xPageName, and have configure an entry in config.cfg as SSUrlFieldName=PageName, Scenario is we have assigned abc.html to xPageName for a content item on suppose /oracle/cms1/ URL, by mistake we assigned abc.html to xPageName to another content item on suppose /oracle/cms2/ URL. Problem is abc.html is registered with two content item and on two URL's, and now we have changed it for /oracle/cms2/ URL to xyz.html, but when we hit /oracle/cms2/abc.html it is also served with blank page. Please suggest how we can get away with this ASAP.
    Thanks,

That is definitely a limitation that each custom page name must be unique.
If think what you are saying is that you have resolved this issue but the URL is still taking you to the wrong page...
THis stuff is cached IIRC in some js files in the weblayout
Have you tried, clearing browser cache, recreating the navigation in SS Designer, or restarting UCM and webserver?

  • IWeb URL can´t be forwarded

    Hi
I bought a domain: jandue.dk, I have this iWeb, URL:
    http://web.mac.com/duejan/iWeb/Site/Jan%20Due.html
But my web host will not accept this address for forwarding.
    Only A-Z, 0-9, and (_)
    So what to type in?
    JanD

If they offer forwarding, then you really should be able you use a / its standard in all url's. I would contact them and ask!
The other thing that you could do, if you have any webspace with them, is to add a redirect page.
Text copied and changed slightly, to suit, from bluehens post in this thread.
Create an index.html file and upload it, to create the file, open TextEdit.
Note: If you're going to use TextEdit, you need to select the checkbox "Ignore rich-text commands in HTML files" from the Open & Save pane of the Preferences dialog PRIOR to opening the file from your iDisk.
Paste the following text, substituting the URL you want to link to.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><title></title><meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://www.mydomain.com/mypage.html" /></head><body></body></html>
Save As, Index.html, then upload it to your webspace.

my iWeb image names are incompatible with FTP servers and must be renamed but I can't find the images in iWeb. I can upload to a desktop file and change them there but then I would need to download them to a new site in iWeb to publish them.
    What's the answer?
    Thanks

Many thanks to  responded to my question and sorry not to get back sooner.
Yes, I discovered by this unfortunate experience that the names of photos are a serious issue if the site is to ever go to an FTP server.  Apple should discuss this carefully in their "manual".
One more question:  I uploaded the website to a folder on my desktop. When I open it, unlike the photos in iWeb, there are folders for each page which have all the photos in them. I went through each folder and changed the names to be FTP compatible. I'm using iWeb SEO Tool which allows one to upload from this local folder to an FTP server but having trouble.
Is this because there is an imbedment in iWeb that uses the old photo names to link to the actual photos and it can't find them because of the name changes?
Thanks again for your help ...

  • Name Problem while creating Proxy

    Dear All,
While creating a proxy we are getting warning with regards to NAMES PROBLEM.
Under Names Problem tab there are 3 comments:
    1. Object Already Exists
    2. Name already exists
    3. Special Character / underscore at position 30 deleted.
As per my understanding the objects already exists, but I have deleted those objects create earlier by deleting the proxy.
Is there any way from where we can delete already deleted objects?
Is it because of Cache refresh, if yes than please tell how to refresh Cache in ECC system?
While activating any Functional Module in same ECC system, I can see all earlier created objects although I have deleted all of them while deleting proxy objects.
    Please help!!

Table structures are not deleted automatically. Check in SE80 for all objects created with SPROXY.
The issue could happen also, when name of data type, message type and message interface is equal. Then the creation ot the data type objects fails, is there is already an object related to message type.
For proxy genaration you should name all ojects with a prefix, like DT for data type.

  • Connect to Server Login Name Problem

I have been troubleshooting some problems on two computers my father-in-law has.
One is an 2GHz Intel Core Duo iMac running Mac OS 10.4.11. We'll call this iMac 2G.
The second is an 800 MHz PowerPC G4 iMac running Mac OS 10.4.11. We'll call this iMac 800M.
I am attempting to file share the two computers. I can connect iMac 800M to the iMac 2G via "Connect to Server" fine. When I try to do the reverse, iMac 2G to the iMac 800M, the "Connect to Server" login window want to use the "Short Name" listed in the "Account" panel for the login name instead the full name.
Is there a way to fix this so that it will work with the full name will work in the login window?
    Thanks.
BTW - I do not know if this matters but I used the "ChangeShortName" (version 1.3) utility to fix the short name problem in the iMac 2G. Everything work fine after running the program.

Never mind, there were two login information stored in the keychain. Deleting the old one seem to correct the problem.
