IWeb website after June, to where?

So, as you all know, MobileMe will be terminated by the end of June!
I have a website that I created on iWeb and uploaded easily.
Now, WHAT can I do before MobileMe closes for good, how to transfer my website and to where??
any help guys, please
Thank you so much,
Suleiman

iWeb offers two alternative ways to publish...
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
... and you need to choose and signup for hosting...

If you have registered, or are going to register, a new domain name, it needs to be added to Google...

You should also create and upload a new sitemap.xml...

  • What about my iWeb sites after June 30, 2012?

I have two web sites created in iWeb.  Where is the best place to go to get information about how to transfer these web sites to the Internet at large and get hosting so they do not disappear after June 30, 2012?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You need to choose a new web hosting service. Once you have done so get the information that you need such as the FTP address, your username, password and file path and enter it into iWeb under the FTP option. You can then republish your websites to your new hosting service.
You may need to check some of the features on your website, to ensure they work with your new hosting service. Such things as page counters and gallery slideshows don't.

  • Domain file does not open my iWeb websites after upgrading to Mavericks

I just upgraded to mavericks so i could use Media Composer to edit my new movie.
I backed up my computer and saved my domain file (which is over 1 gig large, as it has several websites I manage)
I went back to my original CD of iLife and re-installed iWeb
I then copied my backup of my domain file onto the library>application support>iWeb folder
    iWeb program opens
but my website and their pages/files do not show on the left hand menu.
I have read on here that i need iWeb 09 (version 3.0) instead of iWeb 08 (version 2.0) but I cannot find such version in the apple website
When I check for upgrades it looks like  my iWeb 2.0 (from my iLife 08) is the latest version.
    Can someone help?
In the icon of the domain file which I backed up I see an image of the last page I updated before my back up.
I am assuming all the info is there but for some reason Mavericks is not allowing iWeb to see them?
    Thanks in advance!

To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script"/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"
    delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Optionsmenu to bring the this window:

I have several legacy sites done in Homepage.  Do these need to be moved prior to June 30, 2012?
    Thanks,

Everything on your iDisk will disappear on July 1st.
That includes ALL files and folders on your iDisk.
To summarize: Everything will be gone at midnight June 30/July 1.

  • Best FTP for iWeb produced websites after Mobile Me?

best FTP for iWeb produced websites after Mobile Me?

If you're asking about an FTP client there are several very good FTP clients.  YummyFTP and Transmit are two commercial clients that provide two finder like windows of your local website folder and the online site folder.  That makes it very easy to drag and drop or do automatic syncs.
Cyberduck is a free FTP client and provides a Finder like window to the online folder.  You can open the local Finder window for the web site for dropping and dragging. It will also do an automatic sync.
As for hosting sites IMO the two best are HostExcellence.com and ixwebhosting.  They are owned by the same company and operate essentially the same.  The only difference is that HostExcellence has a free customer support phone line for customers outside the US. Both offer excellent ear to ear customer support.

  • Will iweb continue to work with other web host after june 2012

will iweb continue to work with other web host after june 2012

as long as osx supports it, iweb should work beyond june 2012 as an app by itself.
however, the some of the currently published code will break when mme servers are to shut down; unless apple comes up with a patches by then.
most of mme features can be replaced and fully implemented on other host servers.
    Password protection
can be implemented with apache server.
    Blog and photo comments
with Intense Debate commenting system, ex:
    http://home.cyclosaurus.com/CyclosaurusBlog/Entries/2011/2/12_Dynamically_Resize _iFrame.html
no need for manually resizing iframe.
if you have comments on mme servers and value them then you should find ways to archive them, because they'll be gone:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15528258#15528258
    Blog search
with google search, as long as your site is indexed with google search engines.
    Hit counter
with statcounter and can have the same look as mme hit counter:
    http://home.cyclosaurus.com/Cyclosaurus.html
as for photos page's popup slideshows, everything can be packaged in an installer so there is no need for editing, find+replace of anything.
if i feel good i just may release my installer for iweb slideshow patch.

  • Uploading previous iWeb work after a system restore?

How do I upload previous iWeb work after a system restore?
I backed up my data on a Hard-drive then I did a factory reset or restore of my hard-drive....
Now I am attempting to open my previous iWeb work online and it is not working please help.....

Your domain.sites2 file is the file that iWeb stores all its data and it is this file that you need if you want to continue updating your website in iWeb.
It is found under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and then the domain.sites file.
Your user library is the one with the house and this is where your personal user information is stored as opposed to your System Library which is general and where iWeb is not.
If you don't have your domain.sites file then you will have to re-build your site from scratch as iWeb does not have the ability to read or open html files - so a previously published site - it is a one way street creating html files upon publishing.

I'm using iweb 3.4 and trying to load audio files to my web page.  Everything looks good in iweb but after publishing instead of having a control bar i have a "?".  Does anyone know what to do?

Where are you hosting the site, how are you uploading the files and what's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?
Adding audio files by dragging onto the web page forces the viewer to have Quicktime installed on their computer in order to be able to listen to them.  Look at the audio player options on this page of Roddy's iWeb for Musicians site: Audio Players for your Music Website.

  • All of my iWeb websites have disappeared, help please!!!

    Someone please help!!
I have created some very complex websites using iWeb that took a lot of time. I turned my mac on yesterday and started iWeb in the same way that I always do and a pop up box came up saying that iWeb couldn't find the domain file. I wasn't sure what this meant at the time and hit cancel and now all of my sites have been wiped from iWeb.
After doing a bit of research I found out about the domain file. I tried to look for it on my Mac but at first it was no where to be seen. To start iWeb again I had to start a new website. It was only after this that a new domain file popped up, but it only had information regarding the new site on.
I have the sites I created published, backed up and saved. So a few questions,
    1. Does anyone know why this has happened?
    2. Is it possible to import my iWeb published websites back into iWeb?
    3. Why is this program so under-developed, it has so much potential?!!? (You don't need to answer that one, just me venting a bit of frustration )

When you say that you have the sites you create "Published, backed up and saved" do you have your domain.sites files backed up and saved?
If not, then you are out of luck. No it is not possible for iWeb to import published websites back into iWeb. iWeb has no import facility and creates html upon publishing.
Your domain files cannot just be deleted like this, especially from iWeb, not unless you physically trash it or delete your sites from your domain file.
All your domain files are stored under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites. Look here and your domain files should be there - be careful to look under your User/Library as iWeb is not found under your System Library.
The only drawback that I can see with iWeb is the inability to import published sites. Anything else that you want to do can be worked around with the use of either html code and the html snippet or javascript code etc.
What you have to remember is that iWeb was originally developed for personal websites and nothing else - people without that much technical knowledge of web design who just wanted to get some kind of good looking site up and published with a few photos etc. This is why .Mac and now MobileMe was created so that you have ease of one click publishing.
Apple have improved it with each subsequent version, by including certain extra features with iWeb 09, however, it is still primarily meant to be for personal sites.
iWeb can be used to make some very good looking business sites too and you don't have to host on MobileMe.
iWeb is due another upgrade soon and there is some speculation that as 2010 was missed out as an upgrade the next version might be iWeb 11, so we'll all just have to wait and see what happens. Perhaps January next year and there are rumours that it was undergoing a complete overhaul.

  • My iweb website i posted through Fetch isn't working...

i posted my iweb website using Fetch to my godaddy.com web address, but it's not working. it keeps coming up with the "this page coming soon" page instead. is there a certain folder i'm supposed to post it to? do i need to delete the "this page coming soon" file from the ftp server? i can't figure out what i did wrong.
can anyone help me? my website is www.dianne-spence.com, by the way.
    thanks!

I think you uploaded the wrong index.html file. You are saving your sitefolder into the Sites folder on your hard drive, which is not wrong but it is confusing you tremendously.
Here is exactly what I want you to do...
    1. On your desktop make a new folder...call it "iWeb FTP stuff"
    2. Open up iWeb and select "Publish to Folder".
    3. In the field for URL, type in "http://www.dianne-spence.com"
    4. Up above in the file window, select the folder on your desktop "iWeb FTP stuff" to save your site into.
    5. Click on Go. iWeb will now publish your site to the "iWeb FTP stuff" folder on your desktop. Quit iWeb when it is finished.
    6. Now open up the "iWeb FTP stuff" folder on your desktop just to explore... see how there are only two things inside there? An index.html file and then another folder named after your site, right? Perfect. These are the two items to upload to your server. Don't bother with the sitefolder.
    7. Now launch Fetch and enter in your GoDaddy account info. Navigate to the "iWeb FTP stuff" folder and select the index.html file and the sitefolder (named after your site). Start the upload.
That should do it. Let me know what happens.

  • Can you export a published iweb website back into iweb?

I have created my own iweb website which I uploaded to my own domain using transmit. Since creating the page, I had a had drive die on me that I can't access and don't have my site in iweb to edit as I have resorted to a back up made just before I made the site. So I want to know if I can access the site from Transmit and put it back into iweb for editing the site?
This is my first site I have made entirely on my own and have been learning as I go. If I can't access the site as I made it, I may try accessing the files from Transmit one by one to re-make the pages.
Any help on this will me very much appreciated.
This is my site for anyone who wants to see:

    Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Sure, you could syncronize in the opposite direction to get your html files and images, etc back on your Mac. But you will have to drag and drop, copy and paste to get that content back into iWeb.
Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.
You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. Sadly, many many people learn this the hard way. Unfortunately, looks like you have too.
I have an Automator app on my site that will help you backup your Domain file(s). Click here to download it or visit http://iweb.varkgirl.com for more info. The app will make a .zip file of your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and save it to a location of your choosing.
Then check out Mozy for an online place to store your backups - I just found this and it seems great. They just recently released a Mac friendly version of their app - it automates the upload and encryption. You select the files you want to backup and it does the rest. You can set it to upload automatically after so many minutes of inactivity or once a day. It does it all in the background so you don't have to worry about it! 2GB of storage are free - plenty of room for most people's iWeb Domain.sites backups!

  • Problem with iWeb Hyperlinks After Upgrade

We just upgraded to Snow Leopard and iLife version 9.0.3. We have a website which we created in iWeb. After upgrading all our software, we updated our website and now some of the hyperlinks don't work, but only those on one page in the website. The hyperlinks worked in the old version and in fact they work in the iWeb application. However when on the actual website, they hyperlinks don't work. They are links to other pages on our site. Any thoughts as to what we should do to fix this?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you use the "One of my pages" option when assigning the hyperlinks in the Inspector/Link pane? I've had those break on me at time. What I've done is go to the published page, copy the URL and add it to the Hyperlink pane as an external page. I've found that this is more reliable than the other method.

  • Having a hard time selecting an iWeb website host

Now that MobileMe is gone and my website is down (yes, i missed the memo)... im researching hosts and having a hard time choosing.
I would like unlimited storage as I have a lot of photos on my site.
RAGE sounds good but seems pricey.
I'm looking for a company familiar w/iWeb so that if there are any issues I have some assistance.
I have searched the community and googled and keep getting just a few answers.  Nothing that really gives me a solid sense about the companies.  And it seems that RAGE does a lot of self promotion posing as customer which seems a bit sketchy.  I might be completely wrong but thats the sense Im getting from the videos and results I'm finding.
Is there a site that gives solid reviews of the web hosting companies?
Where have people here moved their iWeb website to?
    Thanks

I have been using IX Webhosting for about 4 years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across.
As far as the unlimited is concerned they just do not set any pre-determined space or bandwidth.
I have several websites hosted on my hosting plan ( I am currently using the expert plan ) and haven't ran into any space issues here is my bandwidth (traffic) & disk space usage.
