IWeb- website text appears thick or blurry

Hi--When creating my website (web.mac.com/cadirect) the text looks nice and clean in iWeb, but viewed on-line (from my MacBook OR other computers...) the text looks thicker and/or a bit blurry or fuzzy. Any suggestions?

Ok, then that's because of the way Safari renders text as opposed to the Windows browsers. The one that looks the way you expect it to on all browsers is because it's an image and images are generally displayed the same everywhere.
While the text looks like you want it to when converted to an image, it ends up taking longer to download. Plus, if the user wants to enlarge the font on a page using the browser's controls, they won't be able to because it's an image. So it's really a matter of how you want it to look. There's a way to force iWeb to render text as an image but your site will be slower. You can have the text currently displaying as an image display as text, but it will look different depending on the browser you use.
This isn't a new thing, either. That browsers display content differently has been something driving web designers crazy for years upon years. Welcome to their world

  • Hello everyone, my website text appears slightly bigger in firefox than all other browsers.

I have tested my website on my laptop using web-kit browsers, IE and Firefox but Firefox alone displays text to be slightly bigger than the rest of the browsers. It has same rendering effects when it comes to images. I tried defining these elements using %, em, px etc but all in vain.
I have test "bare bone" html code like:
    <body>
    <p>pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee help</p>
    </body>
    with css:
p{font-size: 11px; font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, Sans-Serif;} yet the results is as mentioned above. Other sites however render the same font-size on my laptop even in different browsers.

Identical in Firefox 31 as in IE8.
Try resetting the Zoom level while viewing that page.
    '''{ Ctrl + 0 }'''

  • Transitions are making my text appear thicker?

I have some titles made in Title 3D that have fade-in-fade-out transitions in between.
When the playhead hits the beginning of the transition on the ending clip, the text on screen seems to get thicker, almost as if another layer is being displayed underneath it.
Any ideas why it does this?
    Thanks.

Have you checked that your render settings under the Sequence menu are correct? If not, just make sure all of the items have check-marks beside them under "Render Selection" and "Render All."

  • Text appears in the FIND bar rather than website fields. How can I fix this?

When I type text into a search box in a website such as Google, ebay or Amazon, the text does not appear in the field; instead the firefox FIND bar automatically pops up and the text appears in it instead. How can I prevent this from happening?

Usually if you click in the field, Firefox will interpret the typing correctly.
Could you check to see whether you have this feature turned and, if you do, turn it off:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General mini-tab > "Search for text when I start typing"
If that was on and you turn it off, does that fix the problem?
If not, could you try the same pages in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
    Any difference?

  • When loading certain websites the text appears funny and I get these strange large black page breaks. Does anyone know what might cause this?

Here's a screen cap of what I normally see: http://i41.tinypic.com/4tq52a.jpg
I can see websites that appear like that on Chrome as they should appear, but for some reason Firefox gives me all of that mess. It happens a lot on blogs, if that makes a difference. Also, I tried disabling my add-ons, but to no avail. Anyone got any ideas?

That is a font problem. Firefox can't find the font and shows little boxes with the hex code instead.
Try to set the pref <b>gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading</b> to false on the <b>about:config</b> page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

  • Just published my first iweb website : need reviews and advices

    Hey all,
I just published my first iWeb website, which I created over the past few days. It's in French and related to my wedding, but I'd be interested in hearing your reviews on how I can improve the website, add new functionalities, and make it even more user friendly.
I'd like to add a guestbook, but haven't found one that I like enough as off now. I also would like to add more features / multimedia stuff, so any idea is welcome.
Just a note : our wedding theme is on the 50s, and the colours are brown and old pink. The first pic on the welcome page is a drawing of me and my wife inspired by an old ad we found on internet.

I also would like to know if I can have a facebook integration without using MobileMe. I'd like any new article published on the website to be posted directly on my facebook account. Is that possible ?
    Thanks for your reviews.

Is there something I can do to allow that zoom command to work properly ?
David ~ I don't know, but you may be able to find something in the many threads on the topic — click HERE.
If not, consider using a larger font for your text in iWeb. I run my MB Pro at a non-native resolution so that everything appears bigger — but the text on your site is still uncomfortably small.

  • Text appearing as white on white on a webpage?

A friend of mine created this website http://www.confinementmovie.com/ but for me in Safari (and Firefox) most of the text appears as white on a white background (i.e. it can't be read unless highlighted with a mouse). He said this isn't true for other people he's shown it to. Is this a problem of some settings on my computer/browsers, or a problem in the html of his site?

Thanks for checking! From further information I have received elsewhere, evidently the site was created in Microsoft Word and only displays properly in Internet Explorer.

  • Safari 4.0.5 Text Appears as an A inside a Square

Just got my new Macbook Pro. However I am observing some strange behavior on some websites. Some of the text appears as an "A" inside a square. i've noticed this at Ebay and at SFGate.com. Any ideas?

Could something has been brought over that is causing the issue?
Yes! Definitely. I was just getting ready to ask if you had used the MA.
From the Safari Menu click File/Export Bookmarks. Save that file to an external source.
Now go to ~/Library/Safari and move the Bookmarks.plist / History.plist / LastSession.plist files to the Trash.
Then go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and move the "Cache.db" file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, launch Safari and try SFGate.com
If nothing helped, repair disk permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
If that didn't help, install the v10.6.3 Combo Update It's ok to do this even if you are already running v10.6.3

  • IWeb website security question

If I host a iWeb website on my own server, how secure is that?-> what I mean is can someone only access files on the site or can they access the whole Server (running 10.5.6, not OS X server)?

  • Dynamically bind website text field values to PDF document

    Hi there,
I am in search of a step by step tutorial on how to generate a pdf document based on values from website text fields.
I have a form produced in Live Cycle Designer ES3 and a website in which we insert test results for our company to a MySql database.
My thoughts was that when we have inserted values on the website we could have a link to the pdf document and the same values would
somehow magically appear on the pdf. Have read somewhere that this can be done with XML and the use of different 3rd party programs.
    Is this possible?
What approach would be the easiest? Perhaps someone knows about a tutorial on the matter?
Data is stored from PHP website to MySql database. Website produced in Dreamweaver CS5
Thanks in advance for any tips/help!
    Regards,
    Christian

It's possible with an XFA form as well as an AcroForm, but to do the work on a server additional software is needed as you mentioned. Adobe's offering is in their LiveCycle lineup and possibly . Others from third-parties include FDFMerge, PDFlib, iText, Debenu Quick PDF Library, and others. The idea is you merge the data with the PDF on the server and serve it up or save it on the server and provide a link on the HTML page that's returned. Documentation for these libraries will include samples, but you'll also have to learn how to do this securely if that's important for the system you're putting together.

  • Safari Text Appearing Bunched Up

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum, so go easy scoundrels..
I've been having this problem for a while - basically, when I view certain pages on safari the text appears all bunched up with disregard to what lines or spacing there should be...
Now, it didn't bother me too much, because it doesn't happen on very many sites (a notable one is imdb.com), but I've recently bought dreamweaver for mac, and previewing sites has become a nightmare, as much of the text doesn't work - and it does when I use dreamweaver preview on other computers... so it must be a fault with my computer, rather than a fault with the websites...
Here is a screengrab of what it looks like - any ideas would be massively appreciated...

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The two fonts that seem to adversely affect Safari are Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic.
Open Font Book in your Applications folder. Enter either of these names in the spotlight panel. If either appears, disable it via the Edit menu.
If the above referenced fonts applies to your situation, download a copy of Font Nuke. This will allow you to clean the Font cache.
    When done, restart the computer/Safari.

  • How do I embed .txt into my iWeb website?

HOw do I embed .txt into my iWeb website with domain purchased from go daddy.com

You want to embed a text file into a web page?  To read or for downloading?
To add a multipage text file to a webpage see this demo page: Scrolling Text Box.  For a single text file just drag the text file onto an iWeb page and it will automatically be added as a text box.  To download the file zip, put it on your GoDaddy.com account folder and use a hyperlink to the zipped file like in this demo page: LinkTestPage

I've made a number of iWeb websites. I notice that I can't "Command +" the text larger or smaller. Is this a function of an iWeb site .. or is there something I'm missing?
What browser are you talking about? If Safari, is it the same with the other major browsers (Firefox and Opera)? Could you provide the url of an example?

  • Create link to page in my iweb-website

how do I create a link to any page in my (iWeb) website, that is not the 1st page?

Yes, my main page for my website is http://web.mac.com/makentosh/
To link to any page within my site, I just navigate to that site and copy the URL
    http://web.mac.com/makentosh/iWeb/tipsfromtheiceberg/visual_archive.html
If you are using masked forwarding so that all your pages show up as the same URL, then you need to right click on the page you want to link to and choose Open Frame in New Window. Then, take the URL that appears in the address bar of that new window and use that.
