IWeb widgets foil hit counters?

I've added a hit counter to my pages created with iWeb'08. I've actually tried counters from two different free counter sites (Statcounter and Sitemeter) that I've used successfully with other sites.
In both cases, rather than reporting the page that contains the hit counter as the hit, it's recording the widget page. So, for example, instead of seeing .....home.html as the page visited, I'm seeing ....widget1_markup.html. Less than helpful for tracking usage, of course.
Does anyone know of a fix for this?

The method to add code to the page could perhaps be used to add your Statcounter/Sitemeter code to the page.

IWeb Widgets gone from Published Site Hosted by GoDaddy

I have been using third-party widgets to create components for my iWeb (3.0.4 version) website. They are Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack items. (I copy to iWeb html snippet code windows the code from the Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack widget and hit "apply" and they work in TEST mode). I tested everything on my site to a local file prior to publishing the site to the internet. Upon publishing to the internet, none of these Pro-Pack widgets are visible on my site. They all functioned fine when they were in Local file "TEST" mode. They don't even appear as blank boxes or question marks (which has happened when I have incorrect paths). I wonder if it is the pathways to GoDaddy? I have spoken to GoDaddy techs about my dilemma and they only say the path to my webroot is:
/public_html
This I don’t understand. Don’t I need http://www. ….. and other file references to get to the specific file in my webroot at GoDaddy?
Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack widgets I am using:
Apple Style Video Gallery (Youtube or Vimeo)
Simple Hover Effect
Panoramic Slideshow (Smooth Div Scroll)
Photo Slideshow
When I created the Pro-Pack widgets for iWeb I used file links (through GoDaddy hosting) like http://www.wildmonkeysproductioons.com/images/WMP_VIDEO_PHOTOS/....specific photo.jpg
or---inside the cover path [in Apple Style Video Gallery (Youtube or Vimeo)] or a Youtube link in the video path (example): http://www.youtube.com/embed/LWWLM8QhVaw?rel=0
I also have non-Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack generated widgets like Youtube video widgets that are also missing from the website. I believe the problem is not with my Pro-Pack widgets but with my pathways to GoDaddy.
Does anyone have any suggestions or helpful ideas?
I do not understand website building very well and website code, for sure, I do not know.

I took your advice and changed some file and folder names. I then updated my widgets to create continuity of connection with their files and photos in GoDaddy's File Manager. Now the BeyondiWeb widgets [Panoramic Slideshow (Smooth Div Scroll)] no longer recognize the path to them. No matter what I use as a path the link is broken.
GoDaddy says the following is the absolute path: /home/username/public_html/
My user name: wildmonkeys

Hit Counters not visible (non .mac domains)

I have my web page forwarded to a .com website and the hit counters are not visible. I can only see them when I view the links to individual pages from the .mac home page (that lists all my web pages and mail).
Is there anything I can do?

Here is the real answer to your question...
I think what you meant to say is that your domain (http://jpmensgroup.com) is forwarded to your iWeb site which is, indeed, published to .Mac. So you are utilizing what is called "domain forwarding" from your domain registrar to your iWeb URL. Additionally, you are using the masking feature to hide the target iWeb URL.
The counters that you placed on your page are certainly there...and I believe they are counting correctly. However because you are using "Domain Forwarding" the counter will not be displayed and the only place you can check on your hits is on the .Mac Homepage. You might try turning off the "masking" feature and see if that allows your counters to be visible, but in my experience this has not helped.
To test out what I am talking about....load up your homepage using your domain http://jpmensgroup.com. No counter, right? Now Control-Click on your page and select "Open frame in new window"....Counter reappears!

Hit Counters and publishing issues

Hi there, New to this iweb lark but enjoying it. I have created a basic site www,brigsy.com and have placed a hit counter on the home page and the first of the photo pages. They do not appear when I view with Safari but do on Firefox. I have emptied my cache etc......
Any ideas?

I don't know why they would show up on one browser versus another because they shouldn't be showing up on any browser since you are using the "Masking" feature with your "Domain Forwarding". Refresh or empty your cache in Safari and reload your pages and I bet the counter disappears.
The Apple hit counter disappears or is not displayed when the .Mac URL is masked with domain forwarding. Fact of life. Turn off the masking part and your hit counters will show up again. It has to do with how the masking is accomplished with frames. Want proof? Try this...type in your domain name...www.brigsy.com. No hit counter, right? Now right-click or Control-click on the page and select "Open Frame in New Window". Boom! Hit counter is back.
If having a counter whether visible or invisible is important to you, have a look at StatCounter and learn to integrate that into your website pages. Many more features, much more configurable, and integrating it into HTML pages is a learning experience.

Mobile Me galleries shown in iWeb widget options

I have discovered the MobileMe galleries that are listed as an option to add are only those created in iPhoto or iWeb. Although the Media panel gives way to Aperture libraries, it doesn't incorporate the MobileMe galleries created in Aperture.
Is there a work-around to add the MobileMe galleries from Aperture into the widget in iWeb? I realize this may be more or less an "Aperture" question - but because it is in iWeb, I thought to ask here first. Thanks!

It's a known problem; try this work-around...
Log into me.com and open the gallery you prepared in aperture.
Select the "Adjust the settings for this album" button at the top, then select the pop-up that says "Syncs with" and choose "iPhoto" instead of "Aperture".
Press "Publish".
That's it, the gallery now appears in the iWeb Widgets list!
Also it still syncs with Aperture, both way

Without seeing a Safari crash report it's difficult to say exactly what's causing Safari to quit.
Try troubleshooting third party add ons > Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
If you haven't done so, run Disk Utillity in case the startup disk needs repairing > Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
Keep in mind a Mac running Panther has a much older version of Safari which may have problems accessing certain features on the web.

Iweb Widget Google Maps doesn't work anymore

Hello, I wanted to update my website and I experienced that teh Widget of Google Maps is not working anymore. You can drag it on the page and then enter an adress. If you choose "apply" it is not working. How can I solve this problem?

This probably means that you are using iWeb 08 or iWeb 2 and you are correct that this will not run on the latest software, however iWeb 09 or 3 will, so if you want it to work, you will have to purchase iWeb 09, contained in either iLife 11 or iLife 09 via Amazon.
No, of course you won't find iWeb for sale in the App store because as this thread has been telling you, both it and MobileMe have not existed for at least that last 2 years and Apple withdrew support for iWeb sometime ago along with MobileMe, which has now become iCloud.
If you want iWeb 09, you will have to purchase it from Amazon - this is the only way that you can get it, but now might be a good time to move on and use some software that is both sold and supported such as EverWeb. Take a look at it. It is designed to be like iWeb but you can do a lot more.

Iweb widget and HighSlide

I have read in someposts that we can use widget to implement highslide in iweb.
So that we will not have to do the post-editing of html pages.
Can somebody please tell me how to do that?

I have been searching this iweb forum for information on "how to show my photos (slideshows) with the following:
- Dimensions I want (ex: 1024x768) for better showcase
- with the photo size i want (500k or 1MB) for good clarity
I tried setting "original quality" in photos of iweb and fullscreen option in slideshow. But somehow the photos dimensions are not changed even when i said to use original quality.
Please suggest me how i can do it

IWeb Widgets Not Working Properly

I've been using the blog template and initially things were working just great.
After about 2-3 days however, I noticed that while editing my pages I could no longer edit the countdown widget on my home page. It only shows as a blank box, although it's still publishing correctly. Moving the cursor to the widget and selecting it no longer brings up the modification dialog box.
I also notice on my home page that the box containing my entry summaries exhibits the same behavior. I can't see anything any more when editing, just the box outline.
I tried creating a new blank web and dropping a countdown widget on it and am getting the same behavior.
It's got me stumped.

My iweb widgets come up as blank boxes. How can i fix this?

Every time I insert a iWeb 09 widget on to a page, they come up as blank boxes with nothing to click or drag. Can somebody tell me a way to fix this?

I'm having the same problem as Dr. Macbook, and also it is with any and all widgets, not just HTML snippets. The black translucent code entry box just does not appear, and the widget box is completely blank and transparent. Also, my navigation bar has been replaced by a bullet point in iWeb. However, when I publish my site, it works just fine -- the widgets have their content and are interactive, and the navigation bar is like it should be.
I have spent all day trying to look for a solution to this problem. Old Toad, stating the obvious doesn't help. We know how it is supposed to work, and it's not working. I have 10.6.8, iWeb 3.0.3, and just downloaded an iWeb update tonight. Still not working. I have tried repairing disk permissions and rebooting several times. I even deleted all those files, in addition to /Users/shortname/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites2, and then reinstalled iWeb from the DVD, without uninstalling first. This approach did not work.
I tried backing up and deleting my domain.sites2 file from its "native location" and creating a new website -- still, the navigation bar is replaced by a bullet point, and widgets are blank with no black code box available.
I tried logging in as another user and under the other account, iWeb functioned properly. It even worked when I placed my domain.sites2 file in its "native location" in this other account (had to first change the permissions on the backup file before dropping it in here). However, it failed to publish from the other account -- the Test Connection seemed to succeed, but actually publishing the content failed because of an FTP error.
I tried logging in as myself again and followed this tip from iwebfaq section 2.5 in the troubleshooting page. I downloaded a "fresh working" domain.sites2 file and opened it from the downloads folder using "open with" and it rendered properly with a normal navigation bar and functioning widgets. But then I tried to put it in its native location where iWeb saves files, /Users/shortname/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ and then opened iWeb, and it had the same old problems.
As the situation stands now, I can open my domain.sites2 "iWeb project file" in another user account, or from another folder in my own account, and it will render just fine. If I open it from another folder in my own account, it seems to be able to communicate with the FTP server and publish just fine, too! If I put my own website, or another downloaded domain.sites2 file, or create a new one in iWeb's native location, it has these problems.
How do we clean up this mess? It seems to be missing some resource when I launch iWeb in the normal way, but works fine if I choose a domain.sites2 file in Finder and "open with" iWeb that way. In fact, I just discovered that it can be in its native location and still work normally if I use the "open with" method. Here is a very small demonstration of the problem.
The problematic iWeb (opened the default way by clicking the Application icon which opens the domain.sites2 project from its native location)
A normally functioning iWeb (picked domain.sites2 in Finder from any location and opened in iWeb, or opened in its native location in another user account)

Server Widget Web Hits

This isn't particularly crucial to my infrastructure, but I was just wondering if anyone has had the same experience with the Server Widget: wildly incorrect hit count for the Web Service.
Currently my widget displays a total of 20354 total hits on a server that has only been running for twelve days. As much as might like that to be the case, this is definately wrong.
Everything else with the server seems to be running fine. Any thoughts, suggestions?

Are you positive that's not accurate? Total hits is always significantly higher than page views would include images and other client-side includes like CSS and Javascript files. It would also include any small yet numerous XML-RPC requests from the Ajax interface. If you've been using the Wiki or Blog for a few days, it's not inconceivable that twenty thousand is the right number.

Easy way to review hit counters?

I have a website with counters on several different pages. Is there a way to look at the counters without going to each page and scrolling to the counter? I'd like to be able to check on the totals more quickly.

However keep in mind that Statcounter or any other items added to html post-publishing will make .Mac blog commenting stop working.

More detailed instructions/basics:
1. Type a placeholder in place of where you want the item to go. i.e. COUNTERGOESHERE or something like that. Since you are having an invisible counter, it doesn't matter where you place this text box. Publish your site via iWeb
2. Find your html files.
Go to iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/Sitename/Pagename.html
(If you publish to a folder, look in the folder you selected or try looking in your Sites folder of your home folder. )
There are two ways to handle accessing your iDisk.
Method 1:
Turn on local copy of your iDisk in System Prefs, with or without automatic syncing.
If you publish your site via iWeb, now the updated pages exist online but the old pages are on your local iDisk. You need to sync (automatically or manually) to get the new pages on your local iDisk (on your computer).
Then you can open the updated files, make your html changes in Text Edit or whatever program, and SYNC AGAIN (automatically or manually) to update the online version of the site to match what you have just changed on your local iDisk
Method 2:
Mount the iDisk when needed via the "Go" menu in Finder. This is the ONLINE VERSION of your iDisk, not a local copy. When you publish your site via iWeb, the changes INSTANTLY appear on the iDisk on your desktop. If you make html edits or other changes, they appear INSTANTLY online.
I recommend Method 2 - much easier!!!
3. Make the html changes.
You can open the html files generated by iWeb in any text or html editor. In TextEdit, to view the code in an HTML file, choose File > Open and select "Ignore rich text commands." Then locate the .html file (as described in step 2) and click Open.
Make your changes (i.e. replace COUNTERGOESGERE with your code!) and don't forget to save your changes (not Save As, just Save)!!!
4. Remember, if you make a change to a page like this post-publishing, and later re-publish, you have to make the html changes again! Set up a Find/Replace command in MassReplaceIt and you can do this very quickly. You can save your queries so you can make all of your changes with one click the next time you save.

IWeb widget for idisk or HTML Code

I've created an iFrame page for my website that links to my iDisk public folder using the HTML Snippet.
I've password protected my public folder so is there anyway to include authentication in the HTML snippet so that the iframe page automatically logs into my public folder? If so, could someone provide me with a code template?
Otherwise is there a widget that can create iFrame snippets and also has a GUI to include authentication credential?

Aperture MobileMe Galleries not showing in iWeb widget. iPhoto Gallery does

Is this a know problem? The galleries I've created in Aperture are not available to select. The iPhoto web gallery shows up immediately in the iWeb menu.

Have you set Aperture to share the Previews with the iLife apps.
Aperture -> Preferences -> Previews and check the box at 'Share Previews with iLife and iWork'.

APERTURE GALLERY NOT SHOWING IN IWEB WIDGET.

It happens if you have published Photo gallery with exactly the same name of a Video Gallery with Aperture 2.1. iWeb09 Widget does not show the PhotoGallery with that name.
Just rename it and ... it will be there to drag into your web page.
