Iweb with functionality of iphoto galleries

I have a web page I made with IWEB and I have a baby theme on the page. I would like to be able to add to this the functionality of the web gallery so people can upload and download photos etc. Is this possible in iweb with on of the pre-made themes?

You can still use the old homepage photo galleries with iweb. Just place a link to the page into you iweb page and everything will work like before.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

As long as the camera writes the data to the correct fields in the Metadata of the image, it will work. I would expect that the Nikon should do that.

Big Blunder with movies in iPhoto '08 and web galleries

I've just upgraded to iLife '08 and found a REALLY BIG BLUNDER in the use of movies with iPhoto and the web gallery. As it is, the new 10GB limit won't be enough for diddly squat of movie hosting.
I've got a Canon A640 that saves to .JPG and .AVI formats. iPhoto opens a gallery with them just fine.
But .AVI movies take up ~50MB per minute of video. A 2 minute movie I made is about 100 MB, while a 9 minute movie is 550MB in size. So while it's fine to view them on your desktop, you do NOT want to upload them!
However, iPhoto has no ability to convert .AVIs to any other formats.
I went into iMovie and manually selected each .AVI clip and Exported it as "medium" to my local drive. Ok, this gets you a .m4v file that's much more workable.
Going back to iPhoto ... uh, gee, "iPhoto cannot recognize that file format".
The new iMovie can export exactly ONE format -- .m4v -- and iPhoto thinks it's an iTunes file and won't work with it. Thanks a lot guys. What movie format IS iPhoto expecting to use, exactly?
I went over to the Apple store and presented my dilemma to one of the geniuses there, and the ONLY solution he could recommend was to get a license for Quicktime Pro and use it to do the conversion to .MP4. But, even then, iPhoto won't recognize .MP4 files in your folder. You have to explicitly import them. Again, iPhoto seems to like movies, but ... in what formats?
As an aside, MP4 files are smaller than M4V files, but the additional compression takes quite a toll on the image quality.
I filled up two 4GB SD chips with a couple dozen photos and several movies. The way iPhoto works right now, the only way to get these movies onto a .Mac gallery is to upload them directly, which is NOT a good idea! They take up an ENORMOUS amount of disk space, take FOREVER to upload, and I doubt users will find it very fun waiting for a 500MB download to view them (which download will take longer than the length of the video being viewed).
iPhoto needs a way to recognize .AVI files and STRONGLY discourage you from uploading them -- offering instead to convert them to something more useful, like .M4V format, WITHOUT having to swith over to iMovie or use Quicktime or some other program to do the conversion.
It also needs a way to tell it to handle other movie file format besides .AVI files.

Errrr.... you guys are totally missing the point.
Apple sells little Canon cameras, and they have them sitting right next to just about every Mac in the store. Ever noticed them? Maybe you own one? (I suspect not because you probably would have noticed this already if you did.)
These Canon cameras take two types of images: stills are .JPGs and movies are .AVIs. Got that?
JPGs are compressed and "ready to use".
AVIs are UN-compressed and NOT "ready to use". You can play them locally and they look fine. But there's not much to tell you they're HUGE FILES. When I say "huge", I'm taling 50 MEGA-BYTES PER MINUTE huge. That means a measley 2 minute clip is 100 MEGA-BYTES in size. OK? Now, what's the download rate on your iPhone? How long will it take you to view a 2-minute AVI file? But, surely, nobody is dumb enough to load them onto their Web Gallery, right? Keep on reading.
See, when you connect the camera to the computer, most people have their system set to open something like iPhoto or Aperture when the camera is connected. Agreed? (Maybe YOU don't, but LOTS of people DO.)
Notice that you can choose to have iMovie or Final Cut Pro or something else launch when you plug the camera in as well. It's up to you. Most people launch iPhoto - or Aperture if they've got it.
It so happens that iPhoto '08 loads in in BOTH sets of files. Why in the world iPhoto is happy reading in AVI files is beyond me, considering it won't recognize M4V files and has to be slapped to get it to take MP4 files. But it happily reads AVI files with no problem.
Now, if you've got your iPhoto set to AUTOMATICALLY SYNCHRONIZE with your WEB GALLERY, what happens?
Well, if you're like me and you filled two 4-GIGA-BYTE Flash cards with movies, and iPhoto launches (like when you plug the camera or flash memory into the computer) and starts to SYNCHRONIZE with your WEB GALLERY, what's gonna happen?
Did you actually TELL it to upload those files? NOPE! But it DID!
Several HOURS LATER your computer will finish UPLOADING 8 GIGA-BYTES of MOVIES to your WEB GALLERY! And if you interrupt it, well, it'll happily start over when you turn the computer back on again.
That's really nice since .Mac now has a 10 GByte limit. Two and a half 4-GB flash cards will fill up your .Mac account if you shoot movies with your Canon camera, have iPhoto set to launch when you attach your camera, and/or have it set to automatically synchronize with your web gallery.
All I'm saying is that if iPhoto is going to work with movie files, it should NOT blindly upload AVI files, NO WAY. I'd much prefer it if it would let you apply some kind of compression to them, eg., turn them into MP2 files. (MOV files are even bigger than AVI files, from what I can tell.)
We're not talking about what you THINK about doing. We're talking about the DEFAULT BEHAVIOR of the program for a VERY COMMON SCENARIO -- that you don't HAVE to think about.
So it's very possible that while you're happily editing your AVI movies in iMovie or Final Cut, iPhoto is happily sitting in the background uploading the same files to your Web Gallery. And you are clueless.
Is that making sense now?

How do I creat a journal to share using my mac air? I can see how to do it with my iPad or iPhone 4s with the new iphoto app for them. I guess "journals" replace Galleries in the Cloud. I do not see the same functionality of the upgraded iPhoto app on my Mac air, iMac ormac mini.

IWeb won't import MobileMe galleries

apple claims that iweb can import albums that are published on the mobileme-gallery. however, I created an album via aperture and published it (worked fine), then created a website in iWeb and tried the "insert -> mobileme gallery ->" (hope that's right, using the german version)menu, but everything's blanked out: "no albums or films available"

There's a problem with Aperture galleries and iWeb. Also password protected iPhoto galleries will not display in the Widget menu. You need to publish them unprotected and then add the password.
If you want to have the gallery embedded in your web page use an HTML Snippet and iFrame code like I've done in this demo page. You can set embedded portion to go directly to the mosaic mode as I've done with it or to the normal grid mode. All it requires is using the right URL for the mode you want. The code used is also shown.

Since iPLM failed to help try the following:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Open the library package like this.
2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

Problems with smart albums iphoto 08

Hallo,
I can't create a new smart album. When I try to create an album there are no options to create a rule.
When I try to edit one of my smart albums the part where I can edit the rules doesn't open. Sometimes iphoto shuts down at this point.
I allready deleted iphoto.plist - but nothing changed.
When I start on the same computer with another account iphoto works without problems.
Any help?

This tells us that iPhoto is ok and the problem is local to the specific account or Library. Let's see if it's the Library:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Regarding the email function in Iphoto

When I email ordinary through mail, I add a attachment in the email, then it is shown inline and as a attachment.
But when I use the email function in iphoto it only inlines the picture, it doesnt add the file as regular attachment, is there anyway I can change that?

the reason why I need this so you understand me.
is that I use to blog from email.
if I email regular no problem at all with my attachment, but if I email through iphoto my blog doesnt recognize the picture in the email so it dont get added.

You can upgrade to iPhoto '09 with a purchaed iLife '09 DVD - or yu can upgrade your OS and purchase an iLife '11 DVD

Why offer less functionality than iPhoto?

It seems like this new app offers less functionality than iPhoto, save for its photo-manipulation tools. I can't edit location data, half of the toolbar options are greyed-out and inaccessible, I can't adjust the sort order, there are no events or ways at least to adjust where one moment begins and another ends. More and more Photos is revealing itself to be still quite in the beta stage and was released prematurely, which is odd for Apple, who I feel normally is highly concerned with the details. When I view imported photos in moments on my iPhone, the time stamps are incorrect, and it appears that photos are in the order of their last-edited time rather than when they were shot, which completely contrasts with the whole idea of moments. The hidden photos album and the way its "hidden" is nice, but I feel the lack of a standard "trash" or "deleted" area is cumbersome. Half the time when editing a photo the changes don't go into effect, and there's no way to access the original through finder. I simply don't understand why it appears this unnecessary, albeit beautiful, app was rushed out the door.

Have you tried to return functionality to iPhoto in your computer? If the application is still
in the OS X applications, you may be able to still use it. Depending on how you upgraded
to Yosemite, will have some bearing on the fate of iPhoto. The App Store does not have it
and the last iPhoto version would've had to be updated to in Mavericks or pre OS X 10.10.
A full system clone of the previous OS X and its applications suite allows one to run it from
another partition or a different drive. Sadly, these ideas arrive too late or without sufficient
information to initiate the process early and save this option before it evaporates.
In my opinion, reliance on the Cloud is akin to vaporware; if you cannot retain an offline
archive of your images in several reliable repositories where they may be kept available
to the owner, without paying a storage fee to an unknown entity at some untold distance
then some of your ownership rights are lost and you have to pay to use it, too.
Before upgrading to a later version of an operating system it is always wise to have a backup
that actually can run the computer in the older operating system, with all its applications...
Though upgrades can be a good thing, some don't realize an upgrade goes beyond update.
To see your created content be divorced from your control is not a great way to find this out.
So this is a cautionary tale, to backup well beyond the basic Time Machine, since you may
not be able to restore a fully working system if you haven't an online recovery method to
get the main segments; unless you saved them ahead of time in an archive you control.
PS: basic photo editing such as graphic converter, toyviewer, and other software can be
helpful to modify and process images; & can do more than they appear. Inexpensively.

That message means that you have text boxes that have not been used. The holding text that appears in the box will not be printed. But if you want to get rid of the warning just put a space in the text box.
OR, check to see if the card layout has the same page but without a text box. Most do.

I have a new MBAir 2013 13", and I had a MBPro 2010 13". I've installed iPhoto 9.4.3 but now iPhoto says my library (stored on an external HDD) cannot be read until I update the software because it's made with an updated iPhoto... but it IS updated!

As the tile says, I've recently bought a MBAir 2013 13". When I installed and updated iPhoto, I wanted to use my library, stored on an external hdd, which I used until the day before on my old MBPro 2010 13", without any problems. Now iPhoto says that this library cannot be opened by my iPhoto but it has to be opened with an updated iPhoto... but I had iPhoto 9.4.3 on my MBPro and I have iPhoto 9.4.3 on my MBAir! What can I do? Thanks a lot (sorry for my english, I'm Italian)

Using an external drive with shared files (iPhoto, iTunes), attached to a Time Capsule, can the contents of the external drive be backed-up to the internal Time Capsule drive? Perhaps a RAID1 mirror to a partitioned Time Capsule? I understand that the Time Machine (software) cannot backup a networked drive (the external) and that Time Capsule (the router/wireless hard drive) does not have its own backup software... so it won't backup the connected drive. What I would like is an alternate solution for having an automated backup of a networked drive. A 2TB Time Capsule has more than enough space for Time Machine backups of my family of Macbooks, so I had hoped to mirror a 500GB external drive (with shared media files) to a portion of the Time Capsule internal hard drive. I assume this would require a partition of the Time Capsule drive. If not, would the sparse file from the various computers being backed up need to be copied to the external drive as part of the RAID1 setup? This seems like overkill for the Time Machine backup, but it would cover the media files.

The complexity with this idea is the software has to run from a Mac computer on your network.. so you need a Mac turned on, probably most of the day.
It isn't possible to partition the TC although you can create a image area.
The software would have to copy the material, that means all files to be copied, go from USB drive, back to the Mac, then back to the TC, and written to the drive. In other words you have just added Network congestion, although a proper incremental backup type software will not actually use a lot of capacity.
Finally it will be slow.. network drives are slower than internal drives. Well USB connected drive is much slower than the same drive connected directly to the computer.. and if the drive is connected directly to a computer it can be shared with the network.
