IWeb won't allow me to publish my site

Hello. I have iWeb on my laptop and I copied the application over from my lap to to my desktop since this is where I do he majority of my work. The application appeared to transfer fine as it opened and though it did not transfer my material over, it worked fine as I rebuilt my website. However when I went to publish it that was another story. I go to publish it and it doesn't do a thing like the action doesn't work. I can only assume this part of the app did not transfer. However I don't understand why everything else transfered and worked fine in the application until I get to this stage. It is disappointing to say the least. Does anyone have a work around or know why this is happening?
Please help.
Thanks
Lee

Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home()/Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
launch iWeb and try again.

    Hi There,
Can you tell me the Operating System and Captivate version you are using?
Also can you confirm if you are getting this issue will this one project or all the projects? Try to copy paste this project on a new blank project and then try to publish.

  • IWeb won't update an already published page

Hi, Maddening but I've made minor changes to a page in iWeb and it simple will not display in Safari as updated. I've cleared the Safari cache and reloaded the page. So I'm thinking it's safe to suppose it's not a cache issue.
I've tried publishing the revised page alone and have tried publishing all page again.
My wild guess is that the file is failing to overwrite the old file and instead is renaming itself as another version of the original.
    Fixes?
    Many thanks

  • Comments show up in iWeb, but don't appear on published MobileMe site??

This seems to be a pretty recent problem, perhaps with the latest update?
So I have enabled comments on my blogs, and in iWeb, the "comment" option shows up. Comments worked previously, because I had several people who had left me comments... NOW, when I publish my site (through MobileMe), the option to leave a comment doesn't even show up on my site. What is going on, here? Needless to say, I am FRUSTRATED! Any help, advice would be great, a solution would be even better.
    Thanks!

It can often be a problem with MobileMe that comments don't show up.
What is your url so that we can see what the problem is?

  • Iweb won't allow audio import

    Hi everyone,
Strange problem.  I recently had to erase and reinstall my system software, partitioning the HD and I renamed it in the process (perhaps a bad move).
Now when I go to my iWeb application and try to drag sound files to a page from the iTunes section of the Media window I get the following message:
"The media file “standard excerpts.wav” can’t be used because you don’t have access privileges, or because it has no content or is corrupt."
If anyone has a fix, or even an explanation for this I'd be very appreciative.
    Thanks!
    Dave

You could try the troubleshooting steps under "Fix iWeb" here to see if that makes a difference...

It might be worth posting this in the iTunes forum too.

  • ATTN APPLE GUYS iWeb comments link not working on published photos site

When you publish a photo site (theme black) to mobileme and check the allow comments check box the link does not work on the published site. You cannot add comments.

This is a users help forum and people from Apple do not look at these pages. If you have problems, then you need to contact Apple directly and let them know.
Lots of others here have had problems with comments not being allowed on blogs and it is not just one theme either, it seems to be across the board. There are lots of threads about it here and I believe some have contacted Apple and they say they are working on fixing it. It is to do with the transition from .Mac to MMe.

iWeb has two other ways to publish your site...

... and the second method allows you a choice of how you upload the files...

If you have folders of assets outside of the main website folder on MobileMe, download them from the Apple server. From the Finder Go menu, follow the path iDisk/My iDisk/ to get there. Your website files are in the Web/Sites folder. Drag any files/folders onto the desktop.
Use an FTP application to upload these assets to the root folder on your new server...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Upload.html
...and change the relevant URLs to...
    http://www.domain-name.com/Folder-Name/file-name.file-extension
There are lots of options for hosting for about half the cost of MobileMe...

If you have been using a web.me.com domain name, you need to register a new one. Most hosting services give you at least one free and registering with your hosting company will make forwarding and managing it a lot easier.
Make sure you add the new name to Google and create, upload and enter a new sitemap.xml...

  • Even though I have allowed popups from a certain site, when I try to open a dilaogue box a yellow line pops up that says firefox has blocked a popup. How can I change this??

When I try to open the dialogue box on a website to see if there are any jobs available, firefix won't allow it
"Firefox prevented this site from opening a pop up." is the message that pops up. I have gone into preferences to allow popups from this site. BUT it doesn't allow them.

Turn off pop-up blocking, when the popup appears right-click within to find out what the actual site is.

  • Will iWeb Allow You to Publish to Places other than .Mac?

I like the functionality of iWeb, but wonder if it would allow me to publish to a site other than .Mac.

Choose Publish to a Folder rather than Publish to .Mac, then use FTP to upload from your local folder to your non-.Mac server.
You need to be aware, though, that you'll lose some of the benefits of .Mac publishing when you do this. Slideshows will be different, password protection won't be available, the hit counter won't work, and Comments and Search which came with version 1.1 won't function.

  • IWeb won't publish my daughter's sites (multiple users; one computer)

Our daughters have their own computer, so I created two user accounts (one for each). They also each have their own MobileMe account (under a family plan).
Each has created a site in iWeb. However, I can't get iWeb to upload either site. Each time I click publish, it says "sign in to Mobile Me" and the system preferences window pops up. It seems to log in to the account, automatically. iWeb has a window open saying "Logging in" When I click to return to iWeb, that "logging in" window disappears and nothing else happens. Nothing is uploaded.
Even if I try again, it says "log in" again. I don't understand why they aren't logged in automatically, all the time, under their username and why iWeb won't upload anything.

    Jim:
    Try the following. Even though it's for a different problem, mail in this case, it has helped others with your problem;

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
*Here is what fixed it*. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.

  • Help! My iweb won't publish through my hosting company!

I have been bounced back and forth between my host and apple support re:iweb publishing and html codes that can't be added but need to in order for my server/host to be able to publish.....this is what my hosting company last sent me....
We were not able to do a perminate fix for all of the server for customers using iweb, since making it workable for you it causes problems for other people that are hosted with us as well. You will just have to remove that line of code from the top of your page
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
This code is not compatible with most to all hosting providers, if you decide to cancel and go with another host please check out MobileMe through the Apple Network. From my research they provide the best support for iWeb Application.

Has anyone else ran into this issue? If so what do I do now? I am not able to add HTML code changes to iWeb. HELP!!
    Thanks,
    BeadzBabe

Well, no, you won't be able to edit code in iWeb itself, because there is nothing to edit - the code is not produced until you publish your site, so you need to publish your site to a local folder and then you will be able to edit the code by using either TextEdit or TextWrangler.
I think you should just ditch your present host and go and sign up for a hosting account with either GoDaddy or HostExcellence. A lot of people on the forum use both these hosting companies and have no problem loading iWeb created sites - they do not seem to have a problem where you need to alter code before you can publish.

  • IWeb won't publish site fully.

Hi. I'm having trouble publishing my latest site update with iWeb 1.1.2.
I just did a major update to a photo blog I've been publishing successfully for two years. However, after three days of trying, I suddenly cannot get iWeb (or mobileme?) to publish my site. It will compile the update and save my data, but not publish the entire update -- the progress circle gets hung up for 3-4 hours, before I finally force quit and restart my computer, only to try again and get the same results.
I am trying to update with the usual amount of data I typically do, and thus know from experience that I should be fully published in under 40 minutes. I've plenty of iDisk space, and about a fourth of my update does get published before things get hung up. Any ideas?
(For what it's worth, I see the spinning color wheel a LOT these days when using iWeb, and have had lots of finder issues when trying to publish this latest update -- font problems, apps getting hung, etc.)
    Thanks!

Because I uploaded a "save to folder" version of my site, I've lost the "comments" feature and the advanced slide show features.
Using that approach, perhaps Apple assumes that your site was not made using iWeb and thus iWeb-specific features are unavailable, i.e. Password protection, Blog and photo comments, Blog search, Hit counter and Enhanced slideshows.
How do I get those back?
Perhaps it's not possible if you're publishing via a folder. But to be sure, ask Apple via the email page posted previously.
FWIW, I only transferred the site folder, not the index.html file that was generated with it. Was that unwise?
That "+How to publish a custom website+" doc says: "...upload the HTML files (and any files that go with them) to a subfolder in the Sites folder (in the Web folder) on your iDisk." ...It doesn't mention omitting the index.html file.
On a general note, I suggest you consider more efficient and robust alternatives to iWeb's blog. Since iWeb stores blog entries on your Mac, you inevitably face long and potentially problematic publishing. And there will always be the possibility that you'll have to do a long and slow Publish All. Whether it's because you upgrade to a new version of iWeb or OS X or MobileMe, etc., the possibility exists.
But if you hyperlink from your iWeb site to a web-based blog, you'll avoid this — as your blog entries won't be stored on your Mac. For example, the free Posterous is as simple as blogging gets — you can post a blog entry (including images) via email or from a web browser:

  • IWeb won't publish since the Security Update 2010-001

    Hi all,
I see the Security Update has caused several problems across the board. So far, I've not seen anything related to iWeb. Since the upgrade, I've not been able to publish my iWeb sites to MobileMe. It keeps asking me to sign in, but I already AM signed in. IS this a glitch in the Security update? My wireless internet didn't want to connect either, but it finally worked itself out.
Has anyone else had this problem, if so, is there a work around?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Mr. Toad
I tried it again earlier, and it worked finally--allowed me to publish my pages. Then, I noticed where I'd forgotten a coma on my text, so I corrected it and tried to republish again. Once again, it asked me to sign in. I tried your method of disk utility, signing out, and entering in bogus info. (Didn't think of the bogus info part). Still not publishing.
I'm gonna just shut her down, and see what happens tomorrow.
    Thanks again, though!

  • IWeb Won't Let Me Publish

All of a sudden my iWeb site won't let me publish my site.
When I click publish, it loads and it says 'logging into MobileMe' and iWeb just freezes and I have to force to close the app by clicking on it at the dock.
Can anyone help me or know why it's doing this?
    Thanks

Hiya I'm just wandering if you could help us, I'v experiencing the exact same problem as what you were having!! However I cannot seem to rectify it. My website has been published now for about six months and have had absolutely no problems at all until recently. I'm trying to publish to mobile me from iweb 08. I changed my password but no luck!! Just wandering if you might know? Cheers.

    Hello,
not sure what is going on here.  All of the sudden iWeb won't let me publish my site.  When I go to publish a Mobileme window comes up asking me to sign in.  Maybe I changed my password without remembering it.  How do I get me password and Member Name info?
    thanks,

Ok, I can sign into apple.com with a new password but still can't publish my website from iWeb or sign in from there.  Someone please help before I smash my computer!
