IWeb won't publish my changes

Publishing to: FTP Server
Appears to be functioning normally--no errors or anything.
I made a change a moment ago that wokred as expected but now it's a no go. Even with saved changes and a reboot.
I just need to change an"i" to a "u". Silly little typo is crashing my morning! Ugh.

Try clearing your browser's cache (Command+Option+E for Safari) and reload the site in your browser.

  • Won't publish my changes....

I use iWeb 09, published my site using MobileMe. It worked perfect. BUT now when I have made changes it won't publish my changes and the icons stays red. I tried Publish site, Publish site changes, Publish entire site. I successfully published my website to a folder on my HD. I updated Iweb, signed out of MobileMe, signed in tried again, over and over and over.... nothing works
    Need help!
    Thanks

Update: It's working now, for the time being. It's my experience that it's been working on and off for this past weekend up to now. I don't know if anyone else was experiencing problems in that time frame.
I spent that last weekend doing some significant changes to the site, adding a new logo, background and that coverflow animation you see on all the root pages. The site is comprised of 11 pages and 5 blogs, with many entires in each of those 5 blogs. I affected changes to each page, including all the blog entries, and then tried to publish yesterday morning. I think that's when the trouble really started, because I was publishing a high volume of pages at once – MobileMe doesn't seem to like that. This is when I started trying to move the pages to a new site within iWeb, which eventually crashed the program and caused all my early entries in all 5 blogs to get corrupted (that's what I'm calling it at least, because if I clicked on those entries I just got a blank white screen, and if I tried to publish before deleting them I got the "An Unknown Error Occurred" message each time).
What I'm interested in is your suggestion to use Cyber Duck. I've ran into this suggestion before on these forums and so, yesterday, I downloaded Cyber Duck, but am totally clueless on how to use it. I know nothing about FTP but would like to know if A.) will the site load faster going through an FTP service like Cyber Duck or (the other one I hear about a lot) Web Maestro; and B.) If it will make the site load faster, how complicated is the change over and could someone walk a FTP illiterate person like me through the process. I update the site daily and so I can't complicate the process of publishing too much. I hear Web Maestro has selective publishing, maybe that's the way to go?
Also, I've disabled comments on my site anyway, so no fear of that.
Sorry this ran a little long.

  • IWeb won't publish changes to website without adding "/SiteName"

I'm trying to publish changes to my website with a URL that is an established domain name.
When I click "Publish Site", iWeb adds "/SiteName" to the URL and the changes are
published to "URL/SiteName". But when I search for my site on Google (it pops up
readily as the website has been accessed many many times), the OLD, UNCHANGED
website with the old URL comes up. To get the revised website, users would have
to specifically use the CHANGED URL, "URL/SiteName."
Every time I try to remove "Site Name" from the blank for Site name, iWeb puts
"SiteName" back in. How do I keep the Site name slot blank so that iWeb will
publish my changes to the old familiar URL that can be found on Google?
As a Server engineer commented to me, "There has been a folder called [SiteName] uploaded
recently to the root [URL] of your account. This make me suspect that iWeb is set to publish in the
wrong directory. Make sure it is publishing to the public_html directory."
I put "public_html" into Directory/Path. Still no changes to my website at URL; changes have
    been published only to "URL/SiteName".
    Any help available?

That is the way that iWeb works and it is normal practice to get the url with the Sitename in it.  As you have found, if you try to leave the sitename blank, iWeb will put it back in.
The server engineer that you spoke to is correct that your site folder has been uploaded to your 'public_html" folder on your server.
If you want your url without the sitename included, then you need to upload the contents only from your site folder and NOT the whole folder itself and then your url will be http://www.domain.com without the http://www.domain.com/sitename/page name.html.
You can achieve this by publishing your site to a local folder from iWeb and then you need to download an ftp programme such as Cyberduck or Yummy ftp.  You then use either of these 2 to upload only the contents of your site folder to your 'public_html' folder on your server and if you just upload the contents and NOT the whole folder itself, then your url will be http://www.domain.com.
Sometimes putting 'public_html' into the Directory/Path will not work and you'll need to strart from scratch, so you'll need an ftp programme so that you can link up to your server and you can see exactly what is in your public_html folder on your server and delete the site folder and start again, by then uploading just the contents of your site folder rather than the whole folder itself.
Ultimately, what you need to do is upload the contents and the contents only of your site folder and NOT the whole folder itself to get your url back to http://www.domain.com without the sitename.

  • Downloaded Lion and Now iWeb Won't Publish New Page or Changes?

    Hello,
I am having the hardest time getting iWeb now publish info. After updating to Lion iWeb will not publish anything new I do on iWeb. It will act like it is publishing everything but nothing shows up on the net. What do I need to do to fix this?

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
The following will assist you in using iWeb with Lion partidularly if you have more than one domain file:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • IWeb won't publish to .mac

For the last 2 days, every time I try to publish iWeb to .mac, a box comes up asking for my password. I enter it, but nothing happens.
I think I may have an iDisk problem or a .mac login problem.
Someone please help. I need to republish asap!!!!!

I have encountered the same problems - my site was fine until yesterday when I decided to change it and now it won't publish.
Let me know if you figure out what happened
I'm using iWeb 06 and have not upgraded to the new one. I did install some software updates that come in automatically. I wonder if that might be the problem.
When I try to visit site - I get a download popup and my pages (name only appear on my desktop but they are blank and nothing happens when I click on the icon. Weird - weird - weird

  • IWeb won't publish my daughter's sites (multiple users; one computer)

Our daughters have their own computer, so I created two user accounts (one for each). They also each have their own MobileMe account (under a family plan).
Each has created a site in iWeb. However, I can't get iWeb to upload either site. Each time I click publish, it says "sign in to Mobile Me" and the system preferences window pops up. It seems to log in to the account, automatically. iWeb has a window open saying "Logging in" When I click to return to iWeb, that "logging in" window disappears and nothing else happens. Nothing is uploaded.
Even if I try again, it says "log in" again. I don't understand why they aren't logged in automatically, all the time, under their username and why iWeb won't upload anything.

    Jim:
    Try the following. Even though it's for a different problem, mail in this case, it has helped others with your problem;
    Source: http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/mobileme/index.html#d30jul2008
    Page Title: MobileMe
    Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2008 9:06:25 AM

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
*Here is what fixed it*. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.

  • IWeb won't Publish Site

    Hi,
Everything works fine until I add a flash music video or any video to the page then it won't Publish. But if I remove the videos from the page it will Publish. (this is not an embed code but instead a link set up from the hyperlink menu when I click on the "inspector" dialog box.
Or should I instead use the embed code from my upload site?
Has this something to do with memory? I followed the advice that was posted on another "help" column to change the memory setting in the MobileMe page for iDisk, but that didn't work either.

  • IWeb won't publish anymore

All my menu items are greyed out, my publish button is greyed out. If I try to close the programme, I am warned that iWeb is still publishing, It's now had about 20 hours to publish the same site it once did in 1 hour.
Is iWeb now useless to me?

Interesting. I've seen that happen on occasion with Internet Explorer on the PC I have to use at work. I'll publish my changes at home, all looks good on Firefox and Safari, then I go to work, check it out in IE and the changes aren't showing in IE. Even after clearing the cache. However, if I start up Firefox at work, clear the cache in that, all is good--and sometimes, all then looks good in IE.
Have you tried another browser to see if the changes show up?

  • IWeb won't publish my site, unspecified error

i've been trying for the whole day now to publish my iweb site
every time, it get half way through uploading then simply bums out
it says there was an error publishing the site
that a certain file couldn't be uploaded
it's a different file each time
i'm really annoyed that i'm paying for a service i'm not getting!
    i'm using iweb 09 on a g4 emac osx 10.5.6
adsl 1500 kbps connection, only computer using the internet
all firewalls and virus programs disabled
    can anyone please help!

    MobileMess, lol, i like that
yes, the prob is in publishing, not iweb itself
that is, its a problem uploading to apple's webdav server
I have been able to publish my site, and this is how...
Create a new site in iweb
one by one, move each page across to the new site just by drag and drop
with each page, go File > Publish Site Changes
Once all files are moved over, the original site is automatically deleted
From iWeb that is, you'll need to delete the site folder through iDisk
effectively this publishes each page seperately
all links seem to be preserved quite well
my theory is that apple's server can't handle too many files in one upload
it's getting gunked up and timing out half way through the process
uploading each file seperately seems to solve this problem
once they're uploaded, small changes also upload ok
i have since found this issue prevelant in these forums
it seems to be a major issue with iweb, or more specifically, mobileme webdav
i seriously doubt apple is going to work on this issue for us
so for the time being, small uploads seem to be the answer
    hope this helps!

  • IWeb won't publish... HELP :)

Hey everyone. Everytime I try to publish from iWeb to my .Mac account it will only go so far. It will error out saying "An error occurred while publishing file 'x.mov'." Where x is a different file each time, it could also be many other types of files.
I have restarted the computer, and shut down iWeb and then brought it back up again, however it still won't publish all the way.
    Has anyone seen this yet?
    Is there a fix?
    Thank you!

Just saw the other thred. :S It did say that a lot of other people are having this issue. I think I'll call apple support and see what they know about this issue.

  • Iweb won't publish for me???

    Hi all,
I have published successfully a couple of times in the past and now for some reason, it won't publish at all. I tried starting the idisk sync option in the system pref's but it won't start and and error message comes up saying that i need to check my username and password but i'm already logged in? I read another post by Tom where he said to do a few things in the idisk pref's but it won't let me in to the idisk folder either and a message comes up saying my .mac membership is not set up but yet i just logged in before that......very confused! If anyone could advise me that would be great.
    Thanks,
    Dave.

    Hi Jeannie,
Spoke to apple support. My site is now publishing again!!
Please follow the instructions below as this is what i did and it worked. It has to do with resetting your .mac preferences and also your keychain.
    1) Click the Apple at the top left and select System Preferences
    2) In the new window select the .Mac (in the internet and network section)
    3) Click the "Sign Out" option
    4) In the member name and password boxes, enter random characters (Numbers and letters) and hit the sign in button, this will say the log in is invalid
    5) Now, enter your proper member name (do not [email protected], just your user name only)and then enter your password and sign in.
    6) Open iWeb and attempt to publish your site
Let me know how you get on.
    Dave.

I have my website made in iWeb, it works great for my use, I have my own domaine: www.everydayangels.me
However, I have a page called News! I don´t like how it works/doesn´t work, so I figured I use the blog tamplet for this purpose. But it won´t publish! Unknown error is the message I get. Anyone have a sulotion?
    Thanks

You can probably get around it by publishing your site to a local folder...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
... and then uploading with an FTP application...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Upload.html
This is not so easy as publishing with the iWeb FTP.

  • IWeb won't publish my website

Hi, very frustrated. Have spent two days designing my iWeb website, then when I finally click the 'Publish' icon, I get "Preparing to Publish..."
    Then...
"An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/iWeb/Site”."
GREAT. But iWeb won't tell me WHAT the error is, or what I need to do to try and FIX the problem! And I thought Apple and the iWeb software were supposedly so intuitive, easy and hassle-free...
Any ideas appreciated. Many, many thanks.

Thanks for the quick response. I've read Heaton's
suggestions and tried publishing to a folder. Worked
fine. Does this mean the fault lies with .Mac, or
    me/my Mac?
    Adrian...
This is good news. The fact that you can publish to a folder means that iWeb is not encountering any troubles with your website... The error message that it is generating just lets you know where iWeb is encountering it's "internal error"...not indicating that there is a problem with that particular page, etc.
What you have to understand is that iWeb is a pretty "dumb" program. I mean, it's great...it lets you design pretty fantastic pages and all, but when it uploads to .Mac it is sort of at the mercy of the traffic on the Internet as a whole. And there is probably some programming in iWeb that says, okay, after you send a file to .Mac, this is how long you should wait for the confirmation. If network conditions are slower or fluctuating, that confirmation may not get to iWeb in a timely manner and iWeb reports out this error message....which is basically a timeout message. iWeb has to draw the line somewhere, I guess.
The best advice that I can give to you then is to keep trying....different times of the day, different internet connections, wired connections instead of wireless connections, etc.

  • Why iweb won't publish to my mobile me?

I'm trying to update my iWeb that used to publish to mobile me... I haven't posted for a while (months) and now it won't publish... I click on the button, but it never publishes... • IWeb Won't Publish Sites

I've built about 4 Sites using iWeb and it is an great, intuitive tool.
Lately however, iWeb just stopped publishing updated pages to my sites.
I haven't changed any settings and I'm publishing to a .mac account.
BUT I constantly get the pop-up asking if iWeb can use my Keychain. It doesn't matter how many times I click "allow" or "always allow" it keeps asking me the same question over and over.
OR sometimes it asks me to sign into my .mac account BUT I'M ALREADY SIGNED IN!!!
    All help much appreciated,
    M

    Hey Thanks Bkenny,
When I open keychain I don't see .mac password on the login list.
I checked on my macbook and it seems to there, so I fixed it on my macbook.
I reset keychains on my iMac and still have the iWeb problem. I hoped the latest iWeb update might have patched the problem but I couldn't be so lucky.
Thanks again for the advice, all other suggestions most welcome,
