IWeb: Won't publish (update) with Domain name

I have a site that I have used iWeb to create. I recently, got a domain name from www.godaddy.com. I have had it for a few days, and I have had a some things go wrong. First, the web counter that iWeb provides, doesn't work on my site. The counter will publish but it only shows one number (it doesn't go higher). Because it would not work, I decided to delete the counter from my site. Second, I tried to rename one of the pages from "My Podcast" to "Media" but when I try visiting my site, it still says "My Podcast," but when I click on it, a window shows up that says that Apple can't find the sight because it may have been deleted. So, I fixed that by making the page say My Podcast again (which fixed it). Finally, I tried updating some information on my site, and it says that the site published, but when I visit the site, it doesn't have anything that is changed at all.
I can't figure out what is wrong and I need some help. Thanks!

With rapidly reloaded pages, sometimes the browser will show you information from its cache in order to deliver the information to you as fast as possible. Unfortunately, with frequently updated pages, this browser caching strategy doesn't work so well.
To make sure that you are seeing the most up-to-date version of your website, try emptying your browser cache. In Safari, look under the Safari menu and select "Empty Cache". You can also try to add a "?" after your URL to tell Safari to ignore whatever is in its cache.
I have just checked your website and all the links look to be functional. So I am 100% sure that it is a caching issue for you.
As far as the iWeb hit counter goes, you are using domain forwarding with masking to hide the .Mac address. This masking feature prevents the hit counter from displaying correctly or at all. Disable masking and you will see your hit counter as normal. Even if it is not displayed, it will still be counting.

  • IWeb won't publish updates to my site

    Hi!
A couple of years ago I made a website with iWeb then uploaded it to an FTP with some other program I can't remember. Now I'm trying to update my website using iwebs publish tool. Everything seems to run smoothly except that when I go to the updated website it's the old one. There are no updates. I tried it from different computers too, it's always the old website.
    What can I do?
Detailed instructions for dummies are welcomed since I'm not an expert.
    Thanks!

Probably Cyberduck - it might be an idea to download Cyberduck again and use this to look on your server to see exactly what folders and files are uploaded to your server.
Publish your site from iWeb to a local folder and then use Cyberduck to upload to your server.
Also, you state at the bottom of your post that you are using iWeb 08?  This is not the case if you say that you are uploading your site using iWeb ftp?  iWeb 08 does not provide this so you must be using iWeb 09 instead?

  • Problems hosting iWeb with domain name.

I have a business web site that I host with iWeb08 using a domain name. I had the domain name working perfectly with iWeb. I would log on to my web site via my domain name and all my content was there as I expected. Whenever I upload a new addition to the web site I always click "view published site" which is taking me to http://web.me.com/username/pages and everything is there as I expected it. Recently, I went to my web site via my domain name and realized that all my recent updates are not being hosted online (with domain name). web.me is fine though. I checked the registration on my domain name and it is active. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Are you using url forwarding? If so, perhaps you changed your mobile me site in a way that requires you to change your forwarding as well.
Could you provide both urls so we can see the differences you are talking about?

If your domain name has two characters, then you may run into the Microsoft IE 6 bug "Internet Explorer Does Not Set a Cookie for Two-Letter Domains" described in Microsoft article Q310676. The fix for this issue is described in the Microsoft article.
Internet Explorer does not set a cookie for two-letter domains
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310676
Apart from the above, you should not have any issue.

  • IWeb Won't Publish Sites

I've built about 4 Sites using iWeb and it is an great, intuitive tool.
Lately however, iWeb just stopped publishing updated pages to my sites.
I haven't changed any settings and I'm publishing to a .mac account.
BUT I constantly get the pop-up asking if iWeb can use my Keychain. It doesn't matter how many times I click "allow" or "always allow" it keeps asking me the same question over and over.
OR sometimes it asks me to sign into my .mac account BUT I'M ALREADY SIGNED IN!!!
    All help much appreciated,
    M

    Hey Thanks Bkenny,
When I open keychain I don't see .mac password on the login list.
I checked on my macbook and it seems to there, so I fixed it on my macbook.
I reset keychains on my iMac and still have the iWeb problem. I hoped the latest iWeb update might have patched the problem but I couldn't be so lucky.
Thanks again for the advice, all other suggestions most welcome,
    M

  • IWeb site with domain name

I have created a website using iWeb and have uploaded it to my .Mac account. Now I would like to create another one but use my own domain name. Can I do that?

Yes. Create a new site and then use domain forwarding from where you bought the domain name to forward that domain to the url of your second site.
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites much like iPhoto Library Manager and multiple libraries. Here's how I do it:
One way to handle multiple sites is to use iWebSites. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files. If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites.
It allows me to edit several sites and then publish only those I want to update. I can keep the changed sites unpublished as I see fit.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Downloaded Lion and Now iWeb Won't Publish New Page or Changes?

    Hello,
I am having the hardest time getting iWeb now publish info. After updating to Lion iWeb will not publish anything new I do on iWeb. It will act like it is publishing everything but nothing shows up on the net. What do I need to do to fix this?

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
The following will assist you in using iWeb with Lion partidularly if you have more than one domain file:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • IWeb won't publish my daughter's sites (multiple users; one computer)

Our daughters have their own computer, so I created two user accounts (one for each). They also each have their own MobileMe account (under a family plan).
Each has created a site in iWeb. However, I can't get iWeb to upload either site. Each time I click publish, it says "sign in to Mobile Me" and the system preferences window pops up. It seems to log in to the account, automatically. iWeb has a window open saying "Logging in" When I click to return to iWeb, that "logging in" window disappears and nothing else happens. Nothing is uploaded.
Even if I try again, it says "log in" again. I don't understand why they aren't logged in automatically, all the time, under their username and why iWeb won't upload anything.

    Jim:
    Try the following. Even though it's for a different problem, mail in this case, it has helped others with your problem;
    Source: http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/mobileme/index.html#d30jul2008
    Page Title: MobileMe
    Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2008 9:06:25 AM

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
*Here is what fixed it*. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.

  • IWeb won't publish site fully.

Hi. I'm having trouble publishing my latest site update with iWeb 1.1.2.
I just did a major update to a photo blog I've been publishing successfully for two years. However, after three days of trying, I suddenly cannot get iWeb (or mobileme?) to publish my site. It will compile the update and save my data, but not publish the entire update -- the progress circle gets hung up for 3-4 hours, before I finally force quit and restart my computer, only to try again and get the same results.
I am trying to update with the usual amount of data I typically do, and thus know from experience that I should be fully published in under 40 minutes. I've plenty of iDisk space, and about a fourth of my update does get published before things get hung up. Any ideas?
(For what it's worth, I see the spinning color wheel a LOT these days when using iWeb, and have had lots of finder issues when trying to publish this latest update -- font problems, apps getting hung, etc.)
    Thanks!

    Rowdy D wrote:
Because I uploaded a "save to folder" version of my site, I've lost the "comments" feature and the advanced slide show features.
Using that approach, perhaps Apple assumes that your site was not made using iWeb and thus iWeb-specific features are unavailable, i.e. Password protection, Blog and photo comments, Blog search, Hit counter and Enhanced slideshows.
How do I get those back?
Perhaps it's not possible if you're publishing via a folder. But to be sure, ask Apple via the email page posted previously.
FWIW, I only transferred the site folder, not the index.html file that was generated with it. Was that unwise?
That "+How to publish a custom website+" doc says: "...upload the HTML files (and any files that go with them) to a subfolder in the Sites folder (in the Web folder) on your iDisk." ...It doesn't mention omitting the index.html file.
On a general note, I suggest you consider more efficient and robust alternatives to iWeb's blog. Since iWeb stores blog entries on your Mac, you inevitably face long and potentially problematic publishing. And there will always be the possibility that you'll have to do a long and slow Publish All. Whether it's because you upgrade to a new version of iWeb or OS X or MobileMe, etc., the possibility exists.
But if you hyperlink from your iWeb site to a web-based blog, you'll avoid this — as your blog entries won't be stored on your Mac. For example, the free Posterous is as simple as blogging gets — you can post a blog entry (including images) via email or from a web browser:

  • .mac does not work with domain name

I used Iweb 08 to host my domain name from godaddy.com.
    Godaddy account is: http://www.eyalphotography.com/
    .mac web page is: http://web.mac.com/enahmias
I published to .Mac and went through the personal domain name procedure (using .Mac account settings and godaddy CNAME) so now .Mac is my host and I don't upload anything to godaddy. Updates are made to .Mac. but even after 4 days when trying to go to http://www.eyalphotography.com/ I still get this message: “Safari can’t open the page “http://www.eyalphotography.com/” because it can’t find the server “www.eyalphotography.com”. If I go to http://web.mac.com/enahmias no problems.
I want my page updated to http://www.eyalphotography.com/ that is the whole point of doing the cname and forwarding my domain. People should just go www.eyalphotography.com and done.. not web.mac.com/eyalphotography etc.. it beats the purpose of this thing.
So any solutions why it’s not working?

Here is a step by step on how it finally worked for me.
    1. From Iweb choose domain name
    2. when logged to .mac click on domain name
    3. If you have any troubled name there just remove it.
    4. Create a new domain name and follow instructions until it says to go to your domain registrar and continue later
    5. Log to godaddy.com
    6. Under the Domains menu click on My domain names
    7. Click on your domain name that you want to change cname for .mac
    8. On the top third of the page in the middle click on Total DNS Control and MX Records
    9. On the page that opens in the cnames section click on the Reset to default setting
    10. Wait a few minutes, and then refresh the page. Then on the same section under www. click on the pencil icon to edit the cname
    11. Leave www. alone and on the next line type: web.mac.com and ok the changes.
    12. Log out of godaddy
    13. Return to the .mac domain name dialogue box and finish according to the prompts.
    14. Go back to iweb and republish ALL to .mac
    15. In my case it took only a few hours and after 2 weeks of frustration it worked as magic.
    Good luck

  • IWeb won't publish changes to website without adding "/SiteName"

I'm trying to publish changes to my website with a URL that is an established domain name.
When I click "Publish Site", iWeb adds "/SiteName" to the URL and the changes are
published to "URL/SiteName". But when I search for my site on Google (it pops up
readily as the website has been accessed many many times), the OLD, UNCHANGED
website with the old URL comes up. To get the revised website, users would have
to specifically use the CHANGED URL, "URL/SiteName."
Every time I try to remove "Site Name" from the blank for Site name, iWeb puts
"SiteName" back in. How do I keep the Site name slot blank so that iWeb will
publish my changes to the old familiar URL that can be found on Google?
As a Server engineer commented to me, "There has been a folder called [SiteName] uploaded
recently to the root [URL] of your account. This make me suspect that iWeb is set to publish in the
wrong directory. Make sure it is publishing to the public_html directory."
I put "public_html" into Directory/Path. Still no changes to my website at URL; changes have
    been published only to "URL/SiteName".
    Any help available?

That is the way that iWeb works and it is normal practice to get the url with the Sitename in it.  As you have found, if you try to leave the sitename blank, iWeb will put it back in.
The server engineer that you spoke to is correct that your site folder has been uploaded to your 'public_html" folder on your server.
If you want your url without the sitename included, then you need to upload the contents only from your site folder and NOT the whole folder itself and then your url will be http://www.domain.com without the http://www.domain.com/sitename/page name.html.
You can achieve this by publishing your site to a local folder from iWeb and then you need to download an ftp programme such as Cyberduck or Yummy ftp.  You then use either of these 2 to upload only the contents of your site folder to your 'public_html' folder on your server and if you just upload the contents and NOT the whole folder itself, then your url will be http://www.domain.com.
Sometimes putting 'public_html' into the Directory/Path will not work and you'll need to strart from scratch, so you'll need an ftp programme so that you can link up to your server and you can see exactly what is in your public_html folder on your server and delete the site folder and start again, by then uploading just the contents of your site folder rather than the whole folder itself.
Ultimately, what you need to do is upload the contents and the contents only of your site folder and NOT the whole folder itself to get your url back to http://www.domain.com without the sitename.

  • IWeb won't publish to .mac

For the last 2 days, every time I try to publish iWeb to .mac, a box comes up asking for my password. I enter it, but nothing happens.
I think I may have an iDisk problem or a .mac login problem.
Someone please help. I need to republish asap!!!!!

I have encountered the same problems - my site was fine until yesterday when I decided to change it and now it won't publish.
Let me know if you figure out what happened
I'm using iWeb 06 and have not upgraded to the new one. I did install some software updates that come in automatically. I wonder if that might be the problem.
When I try to visit site - I get a download popup and my pages (name only appear on my desktop but they are blank and nothing happens when I click on the icon. Weird - weird - weird

  • Iweb won't publish for me???

    Hi all,
I have published successfully a couple of times in the past and now for some reason, it won't publish at all. I tried starting the idisk sync option in the system pref's but it won't start and and error message comes up saying that i need to check my username and password but i'm already logged in? I read another post by Tom where he said to do a few things in the idisk pref's but it won't let me in to the idisk folder either and a message comes up saying my .mac membership is not set up but yet i just logged in before that......very confused! If anyone could advise me that would be great.
    Thanks,
    Dave.

    Hi Jeannie,
Spoke to apple support. My site is now publishing again!!
Please follow the instructions below as this is what i did and it worked. It has to do with resetting your .mac preferences and also your keychain.
    1) Click the Apple at the top left and select System Preferences
    2) In the new window select the .Mac (in the internet and network section)
    3) Click the "Sign Out" option
    4) In the member name and password boxes, enter random characters (Numbers and letters) and hit the sign in button, this will say the log in is invalid
    5) Now, enter your proper member name (do not [email protected], just your user name only)and then enter your password and sign in.
    6) Open iWeb and attempt to publish your site
Let me know how you get on.
    Dave.
