IWeb & WYSIWYG -- not at all!

Hi fellows,
I have two screenshots for you (ignore the german text for now, it's not necessary for understanding the layout problem).
The first shows a page I was editing in iWeb and is a screenshot of iWeb with this page. It's located here:

The second screenshot shows the same page but this time how it looks like when rendered in Safari:

Can anybody explain this strange and ugly difference here?
- The much larger space above the dark grey block?
- The ugly boldish font which looks nice in iWeb? (I have that with all my iWeb pages!)
- The fact that the text in the grey block is shorter than in iWeb and has different linebreaks?
Is it a setting in Safari?

I can't tell from the screenshots, but I'm presuming your text is exported as text, different browsers with different settings will show your text differently, this likely explains the gap/block you refer to.
The only way around this is to export your text as an image and then it will look exactly as it does in iweb, however you have a lot of text and that would result in a large image and long download times for your audience.
If you must go the image route, you can achieve this by choosing a non standard font or applying a shadow to your text, a black shadow would go unnoticed on your black background and would force iweb to export it as an image.
Not really sure why the text shows up bolder, but I'd have at a guess it is because of the way your browsers displays text.

IWeb not showing all my published Photo Galleries for Widget insertion

I have published a page created in iWeb to my mobileme account
Today I went to edit it and add a Widget - Mobile Me Gallery
It only shows 3 of the 4 galleries and of course the one I want to insert is the one not showing
All galleries are published with ability to see, load, download etc..
I have rebooted etc and its still the same.

In trying to transfer iWeb pages (not uploaded) to another computer I went into the library and transferred the domain onto the desktop. Disaster! On opening iWeb all previous (uploaded) sites have disappeared. Help!

Code in a domain file - really? That is not possible because the domain.sites file does not contain any html or css code at all - the domain file is your iWeb data file and you won't see any code until you publish your website.
If you can see html code, then you have the wrong file and it is a published version of your site which iWeb can do nothing with - iWeb has no import facility so cannot open any html files.
Go back and ensure that you have the correct domain.sites files that can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and if you have Mavericks then you need to go to Go and press the alt key to reveal your hidden User Library, so that you can then get to Application Support and then iWeb and then your domain.sites file.
You will also need to go and download either DomainCracker or iWebSwitch which allows you to open individual domain files under Mavericks, because from Lion onwards, you cannot open individual domain files.
Also, it says that you are still using iWeb 08? If this is so, you'll either need to upgrade to iWeb 09 by going to Amazon and purchasing the iLife 09 or 11 boxed set, both of which contain iWeb 09 or you need to switch to newer software that is actively being supported and developed such as EverWeb (http://www.everwebapp.com).

IMovie iWeb can not open

When I used Cleanmymac software uninstall Aperture,Fina Cut Pro and Motion,     iphooto ,imovie and iweb can not opan.
     1,after i reinstall ilife11,updat,   iphoto can use.but imovie and iweb still can not open.
     2. then i restarted, When i try to open imovie and iweb,i can not see any dialog box and imovie and iweb as runing already,i can use menu bar of imove.
     3,i try to "Shift+command+V" restarted. it does not work.
     4, then,i use software updat,it show no upadat,   i install the update file of ilife 11 download form wwwapple.com.
     5,I set up a new user and try in the new user,it still in vain.
     6,I repair disk limits of authority.   can not open.

I am having the same problem. garage band is the only one that will open for me. I see the menu bar that says iweb, imovie etc, but nothing in there works (is all grayed out)... updated etc, but nothing. SL 10.6.8

IWeb 08 not recognizing my new .me galleries?

When I add a web gallery to a iWeb page it only sees my galleries created with the .mac name. It does not see any galleries since the conversion to .me. Also, at the bottom iWeb shows me logged into the server as a .mac address.
Please help

Yes, I have everything up to date. Mobile me is working fine and is syncing mail, contacts, calendars and even my web galleries with Aperture. The issue is iWeb thinking I am still .mac. My thought is that Apple has not integrated all he programs to mobile me yet. I am curious if anyone else is still listed as a .mac account at the bottom of the iWeb program where the status shows how you are logged in
Or better yet, how do I get iWeb to see the account as .me not .mac anymore

Iweb will not open

Iweb will not open, it shows up in the dock with the option to quit. "Adjust image" "colors" and "photos" all show up under the VIEW when selected but that all. No apple stores in my area. Could use some help.

You're saying you don't see an iWeb window when you double click on the iWeb icon in the Dock?
It's partially open since the iWeb icon in the dock offers the Quit option. So first try this:
open iPhoto.
select a few photos.
use the Share ➙ iWeb ➙ Photos page menu option.
launch iWeb to see if there's any change.
It might take a couple of attempts to work. If the above doesn't work try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iiWeb.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder.

IWeb will NOT talk to GO DADDY!

I created a new web site using iweb, everything looks fine. I did this so I could manage and quickly change my videos/pics when I wanted.
BUT naturally, it does NOT want to connect to my host (GO DADDY). GD says everything is fine on there end, but iWeb will not post correctly to the root directory. It made another directory and started posting there. My web site still looks like the old one and I can't over ride it with the new iweb look. HELP!

iWeb seems to do that. I haven't found a way to get around it. I'm having what may be a related problem -- I wanted to use a different template, so rather than re-do my existing site, I created a new site with the new template & uploaded it to the GoDaddy server.
Boy did THAT screw things up! In the browser, it would load up each page ONCE, then I couldn't get the server to respond, even by hitting back button. So I deleted the newer site from iWeb, deleted all files on the GoDaddy server using an FTP program & re-uploaded the original site.
Same issue. Now the original version loads each page once -- trying to navigate to the different pages via the menu or the back button just gives a server isn't responding message.
I think this is a variant of the problem you're having. It will be interesting to see if someone can figure this out.

IWeb is not working!!!!!

My iWeb is not working right!!! All the widgets (exept for iPhoto and iMovie) do not work, every time a place the widget it just shows a selection square were the widget should be. The same thing happends when I chose to show the navigation on the top of the page, just a blank box. I have already called the apple support and tried many different things, like uninstalling iWeb and nothing changed then he took me thought endless steps for hours and nothing. I also went to an apple store and no one there new how to fix it ether. I need this fixed NOW!!!

I would go to an apple store and talk to someone face to face but the closest one is over 800 miles away. I tried to talk to someone in an apple store wile I was on vacation but that did not have room for me. But I did get a chance to talk to a sales man and he didn't know jack.
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled with the application disk and it did not do anything. I have also tried accessing the widgets on another account and I have the same problem. I could try the download though, that might just work.
I have also had the problem of, when I make a 'blog' the box that should have the blog excerpts Is also blank and I can't even double click it, and when I do it just does what everything else does and shows a blue outline around the box and nothing else.
I wish someone knew something about this problem!

Iweb would not update the title

My iweb would not update the title of one of my website pages. All other updates went through but this one. I even deleted the page and did it again and it refuses to appear right after published. It also shows an error 404 in the page when published. Can anyone help? Thanks

Try clearing your browser's cache (Command+Option+E for Safari) and relaoding that one page.

IWeb is not keeping pages formatted

iWeb is not keeping pages formatted after I upload and then quit iWeb. When I reopen iWeb the newly created photo album has lost all its photos, and formating is gone. I have not moved the photos from the HD, they are still in iPhoto.
All other pages are fine. sample image

That did it. It took a few times, but it seems to be working fine now. I deleted the photo album, quit iWeb, deleted the "Folder" /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist, Restarted.
Opened iWeb, then quit it. Then deleted com.apple.iWeb.plist, restarted. Opened iWeb, added the photo album back, published it, saved, quit. And when I reopened iWeb the album was still there. Also iWeb is running faster.

New Prob: I have split all my sites onto new sites and everything has worked fine for two years now, Then I tried to add a site with old family movies which has film from the first races in Watkins Glen, really cool stuff my Grand Dad Lou Teemley took. Any way I had some music on there from my I tunes.
Then I tried to publish and I got the old error message, not connected to the internet etc...
So I made a new site and put the films on their on site etc... still will not publish and now my main site can not be found and I can not publish that site either. What Gives???? Thanks

You might try a different way of adding the video files to the web page. This demo page has one where the file does not load until the play button is selected: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window. This demo page has 9 short videos on it using that method: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes. Just add a screenshot of one of the movie frames or any photo you want and add the Play button on or below it.
You manually upload the movie file to your server so iWeb is not involved in the uploading the file at any time.
Similarly this demo page, QT movies via iFrame, has a method that has you manually uploading the file to the server and linking to it via iFrame code. That page also has other similar methods.
Another method is demonstrated in Roddy's iWeb for Musicians site on his Video page. Here you also upload manually.

My iweb would not publish, I made a desktop folder for my iweb pages. Now how do I publish that to mobile me?

When you have iWeb open, in the navigation column at left, click first on the NAME of your site that you wish to publish -- when you do this, you should have the Site Publishing Settings show up in the main window at right.
Next, from the popup choices next to "Publish to:" select MobileMe.
If this is the first time you are doing this, you will need to type in your MobileMe account (name or email address), and make sure the proper email contact address is input, too.
If your site will be public, you'll all set; if you need to apply privacy settings, you do so here, too.
Now, click on the "Publish Site" button/icon at bottom in the toolbar, or select the same command from the menu bar in iWeb, under File. For the first time, you should choose "Publish Entire Site" (and be patient, it will take a while). Later, when you make changes, use the "Publish Site Changes" (much faster).
When your site is published, iWeb will present you with a sheet window with options to immediate View your site online in your browser, announce it to others (via Mail), or just hit "OK."

IWeb '09 not publishing accurately

This is driving me crazy: Simple elements like words that I am formatting in iWeb with color, font, size, shadow, hyperlink definition, etc., while looking and acting perfect in iWeb, do not make the translation to the published version (publishing to a local folder). These same elements (words) either disappear, change color, change font, revert to pre-saved (or other erroneous) text, color, size, font in the published version. I've tried redoing the site from scratch (one page at a time), quitting iWeb then re-launching, re-starting my computer, removing possible offending elements, but to no avail. Any ideas? Is this a known flaw in iWeb? Helllllllllp........

The restart dumps out all the redundant files.
Three is a bug that has really bugged me which screws up changes in hyperlinks sometimes.
To get out of this one I have to delete the item(s), save, quit iWeb, restart my Mac, relaunch and then add it again.
Painful and slow but it works.
Maybe one day the iWeb developers will try to fix this one!
Apparently they don't seem to care that their incompetence is wasting a lot of my time. Either that or they don't actually use iWeb which is probably more likely as is evident from their many serious blunders.

You can use the NoSquint extension to set font sizes (text/page zoom) and text colors on web pages.

Can not see all the clips in large Icon view in my bin

I arranged my clips in a bin in large Icon view but i can not see all the clips in the bin while in that mode. I see the clips when in list mode or when i drag them out of the bin into the main bin. As soon I drag them back in large icon view bin they do not show up, when going back in list view they are there.
Any idea
Also my daughter accidently pulled the electrical plug, which turned my external hard drive off. So the media was off line. I hit reconnect the clip but the clip does not show as connected in the bin it keeps the Media offline icon but putting the clip in the viewer or time line it plays it. So the clip is reconnected

thanks for your message it helped to show the clips. Here how I solved it. I put the clips i could not see in large Icon view, to the Project folder. Even in the project folder I was only seeing the clips with Thumbnail in list view. When i hit large Icon view the clips disappeared, and they could not have been lower down as i only have about 5 folders in the project. I then clicked arrange the clip by name and they showed up again. Like that i dragged the clip back in to its bin and it showed up. The reason for going back and forth I arranged the clips manually in the bin before and when hitting arrange by name it spread them to far apart and put the clips not in a sequence I liked.
for the second part I followed Neil's suggestion it worked.
