Had a similar problem. Installed iWork08. Felt as if the Superdrive hung a bit too much during the install (probably due to some Rootkit right?), then noticed there must have been a Finder relaunch script in the install as my dock disappeared, came back in a few secs.
Tried to launch any of the three apps, would get the loading carrot under the dock icon to blink a few but then nothing.
Restart PB, still no iwork app will load (though older version of keynote did successfully)
Fix: a. Found out a wasn't connected to the internet at the time (had to renew the DHCP) Maybe for install/reg purposes this is necessary. Then... I know this sounds to MS Windows-like, and I hate to admit it, but then poofed the three icons in the dock and reinstalled iWork08 from CD. Things went smoother (no dvd hang). And keynote came up (with 2 secs of the spinning wheel of death which made me nervouos) fine, and we're off to making animations, no prob. Other two appz load fine too.

What version of iWeb are you suing and what version of OS X?
You can try the troubleshooting steps under "Fix iWeb" here...

  • IWork and iWeb

In what ways have you been integrating iWork with iWeb?
The integration between iWeb, and the rest of iLife is obvious... but I would like to hear more about inventive things you can do with iWork/iWeb.

    I thought I'd replied, but I guess I didn't
I'm using Keynote to be able to get at features of iWeb that aren't enabled in that program. For example, if you make a shape editable in Keynote, when you take it over to iWeb, it's still editable, but there's no "make editable" in iWeb. You can take several objects in iWeb, copy to Keynote, group them then paste them back grouped; again, no grouping function IN iWeb, but it understands groups copied from other programs.
Also, Keynote allows me to create all kinds of fun shapes and graphics in a free, open ended way, kinda like an iWeb sketchbook. Then, any things I want to use again in the future, I just save off the .key file and reopen when needed.
They just work so well together, I see a real potential for iWeb/iWork collaborations.

  • I can't publish - iWeb crashes every time I try

For the past 3 days, each time I try to publish, iWeb begins republishing all the pages and then just quits. I have been using the program for many months now and everything was fine. I added a lot of new photos. Could that be the problem? As far as I can tell, that is all I did. Any suggestions for getting back to my blog?

I am having the same problem. I have added another page to a site and iweb crashes. I have watched and it crashes at different times during the publish. I have tried to move the page around but nothing works. The last message I got was:

  • IWeb crashes when loading certain templates

Hi - I just got iWeb installed, and the first thing that happens is I launch iWeb and try to load the black template/blog page and iWeb crashes. I tried it several times, and iWeb crashes every time. Then I loaded the white background template and it loads fine. Are some of the templates corrupt? Is anybody else seeing this?
    Thanks.

Nevermind. I repaired permissions, ran Cocktail to flush all the caches and whatever else down the toilet, restarted, and now it's working fine.

I updated to os x 10.8.5 today and now I cannot publish changes to my web page through iweb.  iweb crashes every time I try to publish

    First do the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Next, in Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • IWeb crashed - all 'disappeared' and would not load.

iWeb crashed - everything 'disappeared' and would not load. I purchased 09, and have the files for the original iWeb site (which is still active) because I published them to a domain. What is the best/easiest way for me to put all the pages back into iWeb on my laptop so that I can update them. Because iWeb is so easy and I'm stumped when anything starts HTML-ing me!

What is the best/easiest way for me to put all the pages back into iWeb on my laptop so that I can update them
There is no best or easy way to get webpages back into iWeb because you cannot import webpages.
Copy/paste the text and objects from your existing pages is the only way.
But just to be sure, check the domain file in this folder:
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
(where ~ is our Home directory) and see if it still there. Double click the file to open it in iWeb.
If it fails, then you're out of luck.

  • Console Log shows "Unable to read ICC profile", iWeb and Mail crash

    Hi experts
I've a problem with what appears to be my ICC profiles. Mail and iWeb will consistently crash due to this problem. As the subject above says, all Applications will regularly report the following in console.log:
    cmsDataProviderGetBytes : CMCopyProfile: returned -4204
CMSValidateProfile : Unable to read ICC profile
    To reproduce:
    in Mail:
    1) Open Mail and go to Apple Menu > Preferences > Rules
    2) Create a rule with action "Set Color of background" and in the colour picker drop-down menu choose "Other" -> Crash
    in iWeb:
    1) Open iWeb, choose "Welcome" as a template and click "Choose" -> crash
In an attempt to solve the problem, I have tried:
    1) Using ColorSync Utility to fix profiles
    2) Replacing /Library/ColorSync/Profiles from the OS X DVD
    3) Creating a new profile using Display Calibrator Assistant
    4) Creating a new profile using a third party application, SuperCal
    5) Repairing permissions/my startup disk using Disk Utility (doing this last of course)
Does anyone have some other ideas? I don't know whether this is new to 10.4.4 or not.
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul.

Have had the same problem when I tried an experiment to get iPhoto to stop adding a color profile on my existing photos without a profile.
I removed the .icc files in /System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles and got similar messages in console.log as you do.
Moving the icc. files back made the problem disappear.
What files does your folder mentioned above contain?
Guess you should have the same files as I do.
My folder contains 6 icc. files, including Adobe RGB 1998 and sRGB. Removing these solves my iPhoto fuckup, but as you experience makes other apps crash (like iWeb ..)

  • Mail and Address crashed while I was having trouble with new iWeb 1.1

While I was having trouble publishing my website with brand new iWeb 1.1 version that was just upgraded with all the upgrades 5/15/06 and after crashing that program as many people did (see iWeb discussion group), that is crashing about 15 times, my Mail program changed, losing all my old mail and account. And holy moly, all my Address program data is gone!!! What could have happened!!! can I get anything back! Never crashed Address like this before - this is a disaster! any help?

  • OS 10.6.7 and iWeb

Just upgraded to 10.6.7 and tried to edit several pages in a working iWeb site. Three pages crash with SFWordProcessing Plugin error. Nothing seems to fix it. I have created new pages and they open. How do I remove the corrupt pages. iWeb crashes when they are selected in iWeb. Right clicking produces same result.
    Thanks for any help.

That's an old bug in 10.6.2 that was supposed to have been fixed. See this Apple article: iWeb & iWork: Applications may suddenly quit after updating to Mac OS X v10.6.2 . The fix should work.
Another possible fix is described here: The million dollar trick or how to fix iWeb in 10.6.2

  • Aperture 2.1.3 and iWeb 2009

    Hi there,
Can I actually use Aperture and iWeb together to publish to MobileMe? If so, what settings do I need to make to allow them to work together? Previously I have been using iPhoto 2009 to send to iWeb but I can't find a way for Aperture to work with iWeb which I would prefer.
Thanks for any advice. It is much appreciated.
    Lynn

Aperture photos should (can) show up in the media browser while you're using iWeb. Just make sure the Aperture Preferences, Previews, "Share previews with iLife and iWork" is enabled. Note that only the preview quality is shared, so make sure you balance speed/storage and quality of your previews in the settings below for your use. A preview quality of 5-medium and 1/2-size are plenty for my use.

don't know the answer to ur question but the title of your post is iWeb crashes when I try to start it...just letting u know. Hope u find a solution!

  • IWeb crashes every time I try to publish a site

As the title states, iWeb crashes every time I hit the publish button. It worked fine for a long time, but now I am unable to publish anything to mobile me.

Deleting the plist file worked on that problem. Then I developed the SF Word Processing problem and this fixed that:

  • Every iWork '09 app crashes upon template selection

Installed it last night, and Numbers and Pages were both hanging, then crashing on choosing the blank template. When I choose the Grocery template and Checklist template in Pages and Numbers respectively, they both displayed the template and then immediately crashed as soon as I clicked the mouse to try and interact with them.
I can choose any template in Keynote, it just crashes when I try to double-click a title to edit it, or do anything really.
As the apps start to beachball an occurence of ATSServer appears in Activity Monitor, taking up about 50% CPU - I don't know if this is relevant.
I have already re-downloaded the .dmg to check if it was corrupted. Re-installed twice with it, no luck. Deleted all instances of "iwork" in /Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Preferences and the receipt in /Library/Receipts and re-installed - again no change. Repaired permissions out of desperation - no difference.
Here are a couple of errors for each app:
    Pages
Clicked the blank template - hang and then crash: http://pastebin.com/f57b85f57
Clicked the Grocery template, it loads, then clicking the document caused a crash: http://pastebin.com/f1f32ab0d
    Numbers
Clicked the blank template resulting in a hang and crash: http://pastebin.com/f6b932e2
Clicked the Checklist template, it loads, then clicking the document caused a crash: http://pastebin.com/f1410a857
    Keynote
Choose Gradient template, 1280x720, clicked Chart button (the graph appeared and I tried to move it), then it crashed: http://pastebin.com/f288c95f2
Choose blank template, 1024x768, double-clicked the title resulting in a crash: http://pastebin.com/f22b27654
Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm completely and utterly stuck.

I think eyeless is on the right track as far as a font or fonts being part of the issue. Another thing to try is to use Font Book to see if any fonts are corrupt/bad, or if there are duplicate fonts. Font Book is in the Applications folder, and here are the steps to try:
    1. Once Font Book is launched, make sure you have "All Fonts" selected in the Collection column.
    2. Then click on a font name in the Font column, and Select All from the Edit menu.
    3. Choose "Validate Fonts" from the File menu.
    - This tracks down fonts that may be corrupt.
    4. Once that is done, choose "Resolve Duplicates" from the Edit menu.
    - This lets you know if you have more than one copy of a font.
Hopefully, once those two things are done you won't see the crash. I know corrupt fonts have caused me no end of grief.
