IWork '09 apps take minutes to open a document

Every time I open a pages or numbers document I get a spinning beach ball for a very long time.
Some examples:
36kb pages doc: 56sec to open first time; close, then reopen - 16sec.
115kb numbers doc: 1min46sec to open;
117kb pages doc: 2min29sec to open;
That's ridiculous, right? Or is it like this for everyone? This is after a FRESH install of lion on brand new SSD (everything else works great), and a FRESH install of iWork '09. It was the same with the migrated version of the app - I reinstalled it, including fresh plist files, thinking that would help. No difference. I routinely repair permissions as well.
Here's my specs:
Mac Pro 1.1 2.66 GHZ
6GB RAM
SSD Boot drive
Home folder on seperate drive (no latency with any other apps)
iWork '09 Up to date (pages 4.1 for example)
Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Dialog with a lot of XML content takes minutes to open in IE7.

The xml file is 500KB. The dialog pops up very fast in Firefox, but in IE7 it takes minutes to open. When opening it in the page, without the dialog, the performance is fast.

Does it open fast when you load the xml file manually in IE (without using it from the ADF / dialog)?
something like http://<host>:<port>/..../xml_original.xml ?

Checked to see how much free space there is on the startup disk lately?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

If disk space is not the issue, booting in Safe Mode deletes system caches that may help.
A Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient.
Once you see the Desktop, click the Apple menu icon top left corner of the screen.
From the drop down menu click Restart.
See if that makes a difference ...

Firefox is open, click link in Thunderbird & it takes minutes to open in Firefox. Close Firefox, click link in Thunderbird & the link open fast in Thunderbird.

Firefox and Thunderbird are open. Click on a link in a Thunderbird email & it takes minutes (upwards of 5) to open in Firefox.
Close Firefox, leave Thunderbird open. Click on a link in a Thunderbird email and Firefox starts and the link opens without hesitation.

Pdf take minutes to open inside of an extracted zip file

I received a zip file in an email. I extracted it and there were 3 pdfs inside. I cliked on one and the hour glass would just appear and at the top of the pdf it would say "not responding". It finally will open but it takes minutes. Same issue for the other 2.
What is preventing this from opening? I have checked Control Panel and deleted all other pdf applications. Ran Registry Cleaner and cleared Temporary internet and Windows Files from my Norton Security Suite
I do not have any problem opening individual pdfs that I receive or create from insurance company pdf creators inside of their software.
I am running Adobe Reader 10.1.1 on Windows Vista. I have a friend who also seems to have the same problem who is also running Windows Vista.
I have a new laptop running Windows 7 64 bit but there is no issue opening the pdf in that same zip file received.

Hi Michael.
I went back to the zip folder, right cliked on it and cliked on extract all. Then tried opening each one and it just hangs. It still hasn't opened and it is now at least 5 minutes.

Word Web App (2013) can't open this document ... Because the service is busy

I have just set up Office Web Apps Server in a SharePoint 2013 test environment as per document here:

Although I had some issues with Excel Web App at first, I've solved this and excel seems to work ok, However, the Word Web App just sits there spinning and ultimately give the error dialog:
"Sorry, Word Web App can't open this document because the service is busy. Please try again later" The Same link as above has a simple solution :

I certainly did not install on a DC - its a standalone server.
ULS Logs are growing by 2K per second even when I am not doing anything on the server.
VERY FRUSTRATED!

So after further research we have found the following:
Un-bind and unindstall Web Application Server
Clean Server
Reinstall (by Mistake to the C: Drive)
Bind and Provision
WOW it works!
Un-bind, deprovision, Uninstall, Web Application Server
clean Server
Re-install to the D: Drive
Provision and Bind
wow - it DOES NOT work
Again - repeat the first scenario
and once again IT WORKS
SO Why doesn't it work on the D Drive - We've checked IIS Setting and Permission - there don't seem to be any differences.
SO - Why isn't this working when changing the default installation location, is it just me? Has anyone gotten this working installing to another drive?

My browser takes minutes to open then when the tab is fully loaded it will start saying "Connecting" and slow down or freeze.

When I open my browser, it takes 3-5 minutes to fully open. When I get to a website, randomly the tab will say 'Connecting' and slow down and take 10-15 minutes to function or freeze completely. This almost always happens on sites that require Flash Player use. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my Flash several times. I've added memory, as someone suggested it was a memory issue. It's so frustrating, please help!

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

MacBook Pro: Minutes to open CD in iTunes

Hey guys,
Just last night my girlfriend informed me that suddenly her MacBook Pro (15" 1.83 stock) machine is going really REALLY slow when she puts a music CD in. Not just 1 CD, but many.
It takes literally minutes from when she puts in the CD, to when it opens up iTunes. OS X recognises the CD as it is displayed on the desktop, however iTunes takes minutes to open up so she can import.
We just updated the software (software update - not yet the firmware) and it happened about 4 days after that. Now I'm no tech person so the only thing thats I can think of are repairing permissions, checking the CD-DVD settings in System-Preferences.
But I thought I'd put this out there incase there was actually a problem with the update, and if anyone else is experiencing/experienced/fixed it. This is her first Mac (a convert thanks to myself), and it ain't good hearing that 'I might as well have gotten a normal PC'.

You see, she just moved into a new house. Just got the phone like started yesterday and they are having problems setting up their router. They had the wireless network going on at their old house, and since the router is turned on I'm guessing the MacBook Pro is finding the network connection, and trying SOOO HARD to connect to the store to retrieve the information from the database They havn't got the internet working yet - but I think the connection is found for the network.

VI with Several XControls on nested tabs takes minutes to load in LabVIEW 2013

Hello all,
I have a VI in LabVIEW 8.2 that includes more than 400 Xcontrols in nested tabs, which opens in seconds (very fast). The code was upgraded to LabVIEW 2013 and now the VI takes minutes to open and in the meantime LabVIEW is unusable with the CPU at 100%.
I am wondering if anybody has experienced this behavior with Xcontrols.

Please note that I am working with jarcTek on this project where we inherite that UI with so many XControls instances.
It is not like there are a lot of different XControls (there are a total of about 10 different type of XControls), but there are a lot of instances of these XControls (several 100) in 3 levels of nested tabs.
Yes, we both had the time to re-recompile the source code between the two posts that jarcTek made. The various XControls are stored in 4 different llbs. Most of the XControls that have a lot of instances are actually pretty simple (very little code there). Finally, yes the VI property (or the XControl library property general settings) indicate that the code is in LabVIEW 2013 [see image below].
You are correct, the delay occurs after the VI is loaded from disk. The loading time is fine (we see the loading progress/dialog since there are a few 100s vis to load with that main UI), but after that everything hangs for several minutes (cpu peg at 100%). We run the Desktop execution toolkit, and we can see a lot of XControl events (1000s) that are fired during this time.
FYI: Unloading (closing) the VI is also very slow.
To put this in perspective, In LabVIEW 8.2 the same code is ready to run immediately after the UI opens.

In appearence Acrobat X hung opening a document

We have a problem on multiple computers in which to open pdf documents it remains hung in appearance. Actually the application does not crash, but it takes 20, 30 seconds or almost a minute to open the document.
The computer is new, with XP updated.
It happens at Acrobat X Pro updated to the latest version or outdated.
The user does not have administrator permissions.
Files can be even a page, do not have to be multipage. It happens also if the file is in a network folder, from the mail, or from the harddisk. It's very usual and when it happens, there is no process expending cpu or ram resources.
The problem occurs on multiple computers.

Ask in the Acrobat forums. Sounds just like the Sandbox is conflicting with your group policies/ security/ network settings.

Print & Fax control panel takes 1 MINUTE to open, delays app launching too

Hi everyone,
This one is driving me nuts. The Print & Fax control panel takes around a minute to open even after deleting all printers. Application launching is delayed for a similar period (if the app accesses printer info on startup I presume). Has anyone experienced this before? Any tips or suggestions gratefully received...

Just documenting this in case any one else out there arrives at this thread with the same issue....
Some progress. Deleting all printers, resetting the printing system and running disk repair didn't do the trick. However downloading Printer Therapy (http://www.fixamacsoftware.com/software/pt6/) has assisted. After restart there is still a 1 minute delay launching many applications (presumably while they try to connect to print system) but whereas this happened for every launch before, now it only happens for the first application launch. If I manually start the cupsd daemon this appears to take 1 min to start. After this everything is fine. My working theory is the issue is somehow related to cupsd. Does anyone know whether this process is normally started the first time an application connects to the printer (even though, in this case, I have no printers defined at all).
I have no idea why cupsd is taking so long to startup, I have reset the cupsd preferences (using printer therapy) and permissions, deleted all temp files etc. Any additional suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.

Try a reset by pressing and holding the home and power buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.

Form takes up to 2 minutes to open - why??

I'm a fairly new user to LiveCycle. I created a performance appraisal review form in LiveCycle v9.0, yet it takes almost 2 minutes to open. The files size is showing only 333KB. Other forms I've created do not take very long at all to pop open. I have no idea how to begin to diagnose why this is happening. Any help is greatly apprecaited.

So I tested it out on Windows Pro Reader X 3GB and it opened right away. Then I put it down to 1GB and it took over a minute! Best bet is to get a faster machine! (or at least a memory upgrade)
In the mean time, I had a look at your form and there were a lot of objects and subforms that didn't need to be there, so I cleaned it up and made one repeatable subform. It works a lot faster now even on a 1GB.
You can edit the title of each entry in the scripting object myLists.
