Just a quick one for those who had 08 and bought 09, what and how good are the main improvements to warrant spending on the 09. i know i can trial it but the experts are out there already.

Borders or Frames are applied to objects or paragraphs via the Inspector.
+Inspector > Graphic > Stroke > None/Line/Picture Frame+
and
+Inspector > Text > More > Borders and Rules+
*iWork '09* does not have clipart (other than what is in the templates) which is what I think you are asking for. Those you can gather for yourself from Internet sources and after enclosing in a folder can be dragged into the +Media Browser+:
+Menu > View > Show Media Browser+
which can then be used to preview the clipart and drag them into Pages.
ClipArt can also be dragged into Pages directly either as floating objects or into Placeholders.

If you buy a new Mac with Mountain Lion, any included software is free and can be redownloaded from AppStore for that machine only. Some software only gets reinstalled if OS X (only) gets installed over itself to fix issues. See #8 Step here.

If you upgrade to Mavericks usually only OS X itself is changed (sometimes the hidden User Library is also), all the software (and user accounts) also carries over (compatible or not), and Apple's software is upgraded.
So if your new Mountain Lion Mac comes with free iWork, then when you upgrade to Mavericks it will still be there.
If your new Mountain Lion does not come with free iWork, then it won't magically appear for free if you upgrade to Mavericks.
If you need a free Office suit, I suggest you look at the donationware LibreOffice.
You will likely need to control key or right click to "Open" LibreOffice to approve through OS X's "Gatekeeper".
You will need to manually update it also, as it's not on AppStore.

Benefit of LibreOffice is it's completely cross-platform compatible, so you can share working files with Windows and Linux users, which you can't with iWork.
You also should learn Microsoft Office when you have the funds, because it's standardized in the business world.

I do not have the money to buy a new computer and wish not to be vulnerable using your latest version of Firefox. I want to stay with the previous version.

I saw a previous question from a windows user, but it seemed like it was from a very long time ago (talking about the 3.x.x editions), and all the links on that thread seemed to only have updates of 3. I just want to stay with the version of Firefox before this latest update (10/30/12) that say 16.0.2 doesn't work well with my older Mac OSX. Can you provide me a link to reinstall that, and forgive my ignorance, but let me know exactly what I need to do to avoid losing preferences and bookmarks and such? Thanks very much.

All Firefox 16 versions still work with your OS X 10.5 operating system, but that is the last version that will work.<br />
Firefox 17 will require OS X 10.6 and later.

Staying With Macs for CS6?

I have been perusing the various posts for "Ultimate Photoshop CS6 Workstations". Been a Mac guy since 1987, and although I have my gripes, Apple has pretty much delivered for me. Been limping along with a MacBook Pro as I thought there would be a "real" update to the MacPro's over a year ago. But a laptop just won't cut it for most of the retouching work I do -and forget about 3D rendering in high res. I have never wanted to go for a PC as there has always been a worthy Apple tower available. But the wait is interminable. I suspect that Apple will either come out with some incremental upgrade, but perhaps something truly huge. But maybe nothing at all. I'm fairly certain that whatever it is won't arrive until the return option expires on whatever it is I purchase in the interim.
Option 1: Stay with Apple. Pray that I can configure something that won't be woefully obsolete when Apple finally releases the long overdue "new" workstations. I work on heavily layered high res Photoshop files, and plan to get back to working in 3D with Modo. So I'm thinking a 12Core which I can expand over time, buying only the necessary options from Apple & the rest after market. Will the 2.66GHz or 3.06 Ghz options really add significant improvement, or would those $$$ be better spent on more RAM, SSD Drives, and a more robust video card? It doesn't seem prudent to blow the bank on a system that is virtually obsolete.
Option 2: Go PC and face myriad options and a platform that I have no experience with that is more prone to viruses and potentially incompatible hardware that I'm not familiar with. Whew!
I have an ancient 30" cinema display, which I would like to upgrade with a new 30" monitor. Alas, Apple has abandoned that class of display so I'll probably need to pop for about $2k (can't afford the Eizo) for a Dell or HP.
Would like to keep the cost below $7K for workstation + monitor. I have good G-Drives for file storeage.

Rumor has it and Tim Cook has commented that Apple will be taking care of the 'Pro' in 2013.
Discounting rumor, Tim's comment was in the context of questions about the rather minimal update to the Mac Pro workstations last year.
I suggest getting by with what you need until this summer. We should know what the Mac Pro specs will be by then. I suspect they will be running the leading edge processors with typical high quality Apple engineering in the heat sinks and air flow, so the machines should suite your stated needs (large, layered Photoshop files and 3D rendering).
Since processor, graphic card and RAM play large parts in working with those types of files and programs, you would probably want to go with the 3.x Ghz processor and best graphics card for any interim machine (or for any new Mac Pro they offer later this year).
While you can get a high-end engineering PC with Windows 7, I suspect you would be happier with a new Mac Pro in the long run.
FWIW. I run a MacBook Pro 17" (late 2011) with SSD, 2.5 Ghz i7 processor connected to Thunderbolt display at home (which handles fairly large multi-layer PSD files in PS CS6). I also run a Dell engineering box at work running Windows 7, CS5 suite runs good and it is very capable of running SolidWorks. I used to have a 2008 Mac Pro which I really liked, but sold to go mobile at home.

Not even an offer of a payment plan to help me out. I went back just 6 months and I have over paid for 19G.....Seems like they would like to help out their loyal customers!!!! Does anybody have any suggestions on how to deal with them? We are not wealthy....or I would just pay this and walk away......

There is a big misconception in what customers believe a cell carrier is obligated to do.
You pay a set price to use up to that amount of xx data. It makes no difference if you use it to the paid limit or way under. Its like peace of mind when you don't have to worry about a data counter.
Your daughter used the data, your plan is quite clear of what overage charges are. Why should or would Verizon wireless just forgive the charges because you are a customer? Your daughter used the data, get the money from her. That is the responsible thing to do.
There is no "I have been a loyal customer so please remove the $120, or $250, or $2,000.00 since I did not mean to use it"
Your electric company, or gas company or any other company does not remove valid charges. Why should Verizon wireless?
Just pay the invoice and don't think you are being mistreated because Verizon is a business and not a charity.

I'm thinking on buying a Zen, but i'm a bit confused on the issue of if is it better to buy a Zen with 4Gb or a Zen with 2Gb and a SD card with 4Gb, because the diference on the pricefrom the 2Gb to the 4Gb fits a SD card with 4Gb, and will result in a Zen with 6Gb...
Does the zen works fine with the reading times of the SD cards? Or does the performance drops when reading from the card?
I would apreciate your experience/knowing opinions.

They have gone now and I am attempting to either change the password or delete the user. It won't allow me to choose the user I created. I am logged in as myself and it states that I am an "Admin". The user I'm attempting to change is listed as a "standard" user and there is a white checkmark inside an orange circular background on the user pic in the list of users.
Can someone help me? I am having a hard time believing that OSx will allow me to create users and allow them use of my computer and it's drives, yet it will not allow me to change the password so I can monitor what they might have been doing while logged on? What if this were my child? This guest left under sketchy circumstances, and I'd really like to be able to ensure they were not using my computer to do illegal things or to have illegal communications.
Any help would be appreciated. (It's odd that it was so simple to "create" a user and set a password for them.......but it's complicated or a little known process to reverse.

Here are two screen shots to show you what I am seeing. The first screen shot shows it allowing me to select (highlighted in blue) my admin user (which is what I am locced in as). The second screen shot shows it allowing me to select the "Guest" user (highlighted in blue). However when I click on the user "Orion" nothing happens. It will not change to highlight that user.

Did you actually watch the movie? You get 30 days in which to view it and if you didn't watch it, that could be why you are getting that message. If you have watched the movie and you're sure that is has expired by now, contact iTunes Store Support and seek their help.

My last effort to stay with verizon, hopefully a rep will see this and respond

I would like to start off by saying that between my self and my father we have been with verizon since he bought an analog cell phone in 1998. But that should not matter because all customers should be treated the same. I will explain my recent issue below.
This past week a family member who was on my account decided to up and leave verizon and got his own account with T Mobile, who in my area has very good coverage. This is based on actual people who use T Mobile, not looking at a coverage map. He basically stuck me with his line and a $190 ETF. I fully understand that i am responsible for that fee and I'm not arguing that. However this all ties in together with my next part of the story.
Also, in the middle of all this we have been looking at ways to lower the bill. Currently the bill was around $200 sometimes less sometimes as high as $220. that was for 3 phones and only 2GB of data! only 1 line is under contract . the other 2 have been month to month for probably 2 years. I was unsuccessful at lowering the bill with out having to sacrifice, such as removing insurance, etc. So i explore other carriers. AT&T for 10GB of data, yes 10 GB of data, thats 5 times as much, comes out to 145 a month (100 for data 15 for each device. Compare that to verizon over 200 for only 2GB? thats incredible over $55 a month savings plus 5 times as much data usage. with my 22% off discount from the 100 data id save another $20 so now I'm at $125. with verizon i only get the discount from the data package as well. so $50 ends up being about $40 . not a real savings there .

Next stop is T Mobile, unlimited everything for 3 lines is $90 a month for 500 mb of LTE data per line. if i upgrade that to 2.5 GB per line of LTE data the price is $120 total. and theres no overages after 2.5 GB they only throttle the speed down. for $150 a month i can get unlimited LTE for all 3 lines. but for my case i would only need the 2.5 gb of LTE for 1 line. which puts me at $100 a month and never will have overages. and i can upgrade or downgrade the data on the other lines for only $10 more a month. not a bad deal. I'm between $90-150 depending on how much high speed i want, will never have overages and can change the plan at any time to get more high speed. this works great if I'm taking a trip and will use more data i know i won't have overages. my discount here would be 15% off the entire bill so 110 ends up being 93.50

so here are my options -
att is $125 a month for 10 GB which i will never never never go over.
t mobile $93.50 a month for unlimited everything and 2.5gb LTE and for only $10 more i can have unlimited LTE
verizon $200 for 2gb of LTE
not to mention prepaid carriers .. straight talk, net10 the list goes on.unlimited for $45. all of which have great service in the philly/southjersey area and use the main carriers service anyway.
before going any further i will say i have 3 unlocked phones that i can use so I'm not factoring in cost of the device. please do not try to justify using one carrier over the other because of the different ways they finance the device. the device costs are the same at all carriers so that wouldn't change. only thing that changes is how much to put down or pay per month. iphone is always 650, 750, 850 no matter what.
so now lets put these 2 problems together. I call customer care to see options for canceling the line that the family member stuck me with. Its $190 to cancel. i admit i am responsible for it and explain that i can not afford that fee and if i have to pay that then i will be switching to ATT or t mobile. both who will give me month for switching (tmobile pays the ETF and att will credit me $100 per line so $300 total)
the rep immediately says i can transfer the contract date to one of the lines with no contract. . I tell him that is a nice offer however those 2 lines have been out of contract for 2 years. and when i want to upgrade them i dont want to be stuck with the upgrade date. i also explained the only phone is used very little for work purposes and i will never upgrade or put a contract on that line. he understands and advises me that that is the only option to cancel a line with no ETF.i move on to my bill. i ask him what can be done about it. i asked about the loyalty plans. he advises me that for my main line i can have $60 loyalty plan which is 2gb data and unlimited talk/text with $15 overage per GB. however theres always a catch. i have to sign a 1 year agreement, i can not thether the data, i can NOT use my discount with a loyalty plan . for the other line i do not use much the only option is 30 minutes no text no data for $15 a month or $45 for unlimited talk/text and 500mb of data and $15 overage for every 250 MB which is crazy . I'm better off just taking 2 of the $60 options. but again i must sign a 1 year agreement, no thether, crazy overage fees and no discount. so now i end up having 2 lines that are out of contract put onto a contract. 1 of which i can not upgrade until the date of the contract that they switched over. so after 2 years of paying subsidized prices and not having a contract, the only way to get a better price plan is to sign a contact (which was never offered before when you sign a contract) then they dictate how i can use my data by saying i can't thether, plus have overages and no discount. 2gb is borderline. yes i can stay under if I'm constantly checking my data count and only use the phone when i need to. not for fun.
needless to say i told the rep i would on consider and call back. today i call back 2 times to get more information and see if theres a different type of loyalty plan. one time i get the run around. the next time I'm on "hold", but the theres no hold music, etc is just quiet..... so i hung up after 20 mins.
At this point the only way I'm considering staying with verizon is if i can get a good price plan.
hopefully a rep will see this and respond. my billing cycle ends the 6th and this is the last weekend i have to make the switch before I'm billed another $200 for 2gb of data.

Actually, you can in fact restore it or re-activate it using iTunes. A bad ESN just means it can't ne activated for phone service, but it can still be used as a touch. Phones with bad ESN's are not necessarily stolen, if the owner/account holder fails to pay their bill, the carrier will list with a bad ESN.

Sadly this is not a new problem and I would not expect a forthcoming solution. I bought an iPad 3G and the iWork suite at the end of August and iCloud syncing worked fine. About the time Apple rolled out iOS 6 the syncing stopped working for me (without me upgrading or changing anything). It has never really worked since. Run iOS 5.1.1 on both the iPhone 4 and iPad 3G. The "geniuses" claim that Apples iOS 5 requirement is not correct and that I MUST upgrade both to ios 6 (although I know for fact that lots of folks STILL have the iCloud probs even with its 6. The last genius basically shrugged and non-verbally acknowledged the iCloud/iWork failing and suggested "just use Dropbox.". So why the **** did we pay for iWork!?!?!
Basically the iwork/iCloud Connnection is broken and I have yet to get a viable solution to repair the issue. Sorry for the bad news. For reference I have uninstalled/installed each iteration of iWork upgrades on each device without success. I have reset all settings multiple times, turned iCloud off/on repeatedly etc etc without success. I even wiped the iPad and restored from iCloud w/o intention (another Apple IPad "glitch" when I tried the "reset all settings" and the iPad decided to "erase all" instead. The genius said "it happens.")
Oddly, the Pages app is the only one that has marginally worked at times since the first probs. However it is basically broken and non-functioning. Certainly DO NOT trust vital documents to iCloud/iWork. I lost a number of work critical docs in this whole annoying, messy process of trying to get what Apple promised as easy....

On clicking the US flag I had previously then unchecked the US box. It has rechecked itself, and I have unchecked it again. The GB English remains checked.
The flag icon has now gone completely from the top bar (just replaced with character and keyboard viewer) -but that's fine. That's different to previous attempts to fix the issue.
Hopefully now I will remain able to type a £ sign on the keyboard rather than get the criss-cross symbol. It may well default back in about an hour (which is what has been happening since this started 2 days ago). If it does I'll come back on here. Many thanks in the mean time for your help.
