Note: It might be that I did not fully delete the last pages i downloaded my mac is a macbook pro maybe 2-5 years old and 10.6.8 

I'm guessing either Pages and iWork were not properly installed and/or Snow Leopard is not properly installed. What version of Pages is installed? Are you sure you have iWork '09? You should have the iWork DVD, so the first thing to try is re-installing Pages. Should that not work then try reinstalling Snow Leopard.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

    Things I've Tried:
    Booting from disc - not working, gives me the kernal panic error
    Safe mode boot - the bar gets around half way and stops, then the same thing happens as when i normally boot into osx
    Fsck -fy - seems to do nothing except after 2 tries it says the "Ok"
    resetting PRAM - not doing anything either

  • Keyboard and Trackpad Not Working; Mac OSX Unexpectedly Quit?

    Hey everyone... I think I may need to stop by the Apple store to figure this one out, but I just wanted to make sure if there was anything I could do on my own first.
    So basically, on my MacBook Pro that I got nearly two years ago (late September of 2006) for the past month and a half has had problems. In the beginning, the mouse and keyboard would freeze up and just not work. Restarting the comp did nothing. Some times were worse than others (once it was frozen for 1.5 hours). Then it stopped, every now and then having a few freezes (sometimes when the keyboard froze but the trackpad was still good), but two days ago I had my comp not hooked up to an adapter. When the battery got low, the comp froze. I went to bed and closed the laptop, and the next day it was still frozen. I unfroze it, but then it happened again (I'm pretty sure the same situation... almost no battery)... and it is still frozen, even after multiple restarts.
    Also, during the time when freezes weren't as bad, sometimes the keyboard would get stuck on one key, usually the volume up button (very annoying)... then I was told to restart the comp. When I came back, I was told that Mac OS X had unexpectedly quit.
    Sorry that was a lot to read, but any help is really appreciated! Thanks!
    Not sure if this is also important, but I did spill some water on the keyboard a very long time ago (late December '06)... it wouldn't take this long for that to cause the problem, would it?

    Does booting up in [Safe Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455?viewlocale=en_US] help at all? This boot mode checks the disk on startup and disables non-apple start up items and certain kernel extensions.

  • Indesign CS4 Help Menu not working Mac OSX 10.6.7

    Hello.
    The InDesign Help menu is a great thing. Use it every day.
    I use it most to find commands that I cant remember the keystrokes to. I activate the menu and start typing "find font" or whatever.
    The menu finds alternatives. So far so good. But when I want to choose one alternative, all that happens is the system error sound plays.
    Does anybody know how to fix this?

    In my Fireworks CS5 I can't use the color picker to find the colors code from images.
    Pointing on every pixel I obtain only grayscale colors.
    It's quite impossibile to work this way.

    It is most likely because Notification Center alters the menu bar and the dock itself. My facebook and my twitter button won't work properly either, but when i double-click the buttons it works. but i can't understand why your twitter button works once but won't work again.

    I own a Mac Mini Intel and I have installed Windows XP with bootcamp. In Windows XP I can connect to my wireless router (and Internet)without problem, but not in Mac OSX. I had this problem with the 10.4.x version, and although I have upgraded to Leopard, the problem continues the same. I can access the router in Windows and change any settings (I say that for if someone knows the solution and it includes changes in the router). Has someone had this problem before?     Yes i Seem to be experiencing a similar problem as you, in which connecting to a router on OS X is easy but as soon as i try it on windows xp it cannot establish a connection but my router is already connectingto other windows pcs. Maybe this is because windows cannot recognizethe built in airport, or perhaps it needs to be configured in a way to work with both Xp and os X

  • Screensaver is not working in OSX Yosemite

    Hi,
    My screensaver is not working in OSX Yosemite on my macbook pro late 2008
    Can't solve it by my self..

    I had noticed I was having this issue too, and my screensaver never kicking in, and just going to sleep with it never kicking in.
    I had gone in and checked to see if any of the settings had got changed or deleted in the system upgrade, but they were all still set at what I had them at prior... so, did as some attempted above also, and adjusted the times for it to kick in, and still nothing.  Worked when I would hit 'Preview', but still not kick in at the interval time.
    What I just did to get it to work, was just to simply go into System Preferences>Desktop & Screensaver, and just reselected the folder of images that I want to be used, in my case, a folder of images in my iPhoto.  And it now works.
    Apparently, it wasn't working, because, even though it was still selected to use that folder in iPhoto, something must have changed in the upgrades, which might of had something to to with the iPhoto update too, where it had to update my iPhoto library upon relaunch... and my screensaver settings were set to access that older directed to folder within Library, that was updated in the new release... and so, just repointing it to that folder now in iPhoto, got it to work.
    At least, that is my figurin', and I'm stickin' to it!

    Hey , Welcome to the HP forums! I hope you enjoy your stay here. I see that you are having some issues with adjusting the power save mode settings on your Laserjet P1606dn. I can help with that. First make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. If the printer is connected with an ethernet cable to a router then you may be able to do this instead:On the printer hold down the button that looks like a sheet of paper with an arrow on it for about ten seconds. This should print out a report.On your Mac open a browser and enter the printer's IP Address in your Address bar exactly as it appears on the page. When you are finished click on enter/return.This will open the printer's Embedded Web Server. In here you may be able to find some options to adjust the power save settings.If the above does not work then this troubleshooting may assist you with the utility:Go to Applications, and if you have it open the Hewlett-Packard folder.Run HP Uninstaller to remove any existing software from you system.On the Mac go to the Apple icon and Sytem Preferences.Open Printers and Scanners.Hold down the Command key and click on the picture of your printer on the left.Click on Reset Printing System.Go to Applications and Utilities.Open Disk Utility.Click on Macintosh HD on the left.Click on Verify Disk Permissions.   • Old videos from Power PC not working in OSX

    I have old videos (converted from a camcorder to digital) that worked on a Power PC but no longer work in OSX.
    The files are still intact, or at least are as large as they were, but do not seem to contain a file format. "Get Info" says they are a document (many GBs in size).
    These were originally videos that I took on a camcorder and had then streamed onto an old Power Mac G5 to get them off of tape and onto a hard drive. They worked just fine on the old G5 and I could watch them with no problem. Fast forward through a move and I had backed that old G5 on to first a 500gb brick then on to a drobo and everything seemed just fine.
    I moved and got rid of the old G5 after making sure I had all the old files. I went to play them recently on a new Mac Mini and they simply do not work. As I note above, they seem to have had their format removed.
    Any help GREATLY appreciated.

    I have solved the problem! I used Mediainfo and determined they were .dv files (not a format I was ever familiar with!) which of course just stands for digital video.
    I renamed them with .dv and quicktime recognized them.

  • Some Flash video/audio sites not working, Mac - Tiger

    I'm having an issue where certain flash sites don't work
    properly on my mac, they just sit there loading and never actually
    do anything.
    The vast majority of sites work just fine, youtube, google
    video, gamevideos.com, the escapist, etc..
    But some sites such as veoh.com simply will not play the
    videos.
    In addition to that, www.pandora.com will not work either,
    but there I at least get an error message stating that "flash local
    storage is not turned on". In this case I've tried to load the
    flash manager and turn it on, but after changing it and going back
    in, it seems that my changes were not saved and my local storage is
    stuck at 10k max.
    The exact same sites work fine on my friends PC using my
    wireless connection.
    I have tried to uninstall and reinstall flash with no
    success.
    I've tried both firefox and safari, neither work, but the
    flash stuff seems to be global on the machine, so I suspect it's
    more of a problem with the flash than with a specific browser.
    I've even tried to run firefox as root, install flash as
    root, etc thinking that it was something to do with not having
    permission to write to wherever flash was trying to store stuff.
    I've got Firefox 2.0.0.14, OSX 10.4.11, and Flash 9.0.124.0
    installed.
    I suppose I'm most concerned about pandora.com, but I think
    the video issues may be related to the "local storage" error I'm
    getting aswell.
    Any and all help greatly appreciated.

    No, not yet, support finally got back to me, but suggested it
    was site specific.... which it's not, since every other computer
    but mine works fine on that site (goto pandora.com if you're in the
    US, it works fine, just not for me)
    I've tried the flash 10 beta, that didn't help either.
    I did a verify and repair permissions with apple's disk
    utility, it did correct the permissons on the flash plugin, adding
    write access for the group, but that didn't fix the problem.
    Also, the fact that when I use the flash manager on adobe's
    site and it won't remember the settings makes me think it's
    something to do with Flash not having access to write a local
    config file. It doesn't even have anything in the list of visited
    sites like it should...
    I don't know where this config file is, i'm still waiting to
    hear back form support again...
    I'll post something when it's fixed...

  • Can not remove mac osx base system drive

    Hi folks..
    Just trying to do a complete clean install of Mountain Lion. I booted up from a USB and erased the Macbook hardrive completely.
    However I see a second drive/partition below that says 'disk2 - Mac OSX Base system' and it's about 2 gigs in size. I want to wipe and delete this too so that I will have just one single partion but disk utility will not letr me even touch it.
    The 'erase' and Security options are greyed out and inactive and there is some text to the right that says: "This is the start up partition you can not erase it".
    I don't see how it can be a start up partition as it's only 2 gigs in size and the main 750 gig drive has already been wiped.
    How can i get rid of this drive/partition completely?

    That's Mt. Lion's Recovery volume which you could have used to erase the working volume and do a clean install of Mt. LIon.  To get rid of it you may have to try to repartition the entire drive with Disk Utility. 
    Otherwise, reboot with the Command+R keys held down to boot into the Recovery volume.  Once there run Disk Utility to again erase the working volume and then do an install of Mt. Lion. This method is much easier and quicker than doing it from the USB device.
