IWork 09 Numbers spreadsheet to Appleworks

Does any one know if I create a Numbers spreadsheet on my computer I can share it with my friend who is running Appleworks on a Macbook?

Welcome to Apple Discussions
There are a couple of ways to do it. I would experiment & then use the one that gives you the best result.
Method 1
1. Create your Numbers spreadsheet then select the whole table & copy.
2. Paste the table into a Pages document.
3. Export as plain text.
Method 2
1. Create your Numbers spreadsheet.
2. Export as Excel/.xls
Either of these documents can be opened with AppleWorks 6.2.9.

  • I can't open my numbers spreadsheet on my Mac, from iCloud

I save my numbers spreadsheets to icloud as I need to access them on the go.
Now that I have turned my Mac off and back on, I can't access any of my numbers spreadsheets from icloud.
When I try to open one I get an error message that says "You need a newer version of Numbers to open this spreadsheet."
    I have the latest version.
This happened a few weeks ago, and was eventually sorted when another update came through for numbers for my Mac.
But this time I waited for the updated to catch up with Australia, but I still can't open them.
I can however access then by sharing the document via icloud, but I can't use it in numbers on my Mac, and I cant save it to my Mac.
    Does anyone have any tips?

It sounds like you may have mre than one version of Numbers installed on your Mac. and that the older one is attempting to open these files.
If you were previously using Numbers '09, and upgraded to Numbers 3, the older version will still be on the Mac, enclosed in a folder named iWork '09, found in your Applications folder.
Numbers 3 will also be in the Applications folder, but not enclosed in another folder.
The two versions have different feature sets, and I would caution against removing the earlier version before ensuring that any features you have been using and that you need are supported in Numbers 3. Both versions can coexist on the same machine (and according to reports, can both be running at the same time).
To ensure that you are launching the newer version, make sure you have it's icon on the Dock, and that you use that icon to start the launch. The icons for the two versions are similar—both are vertical bar graphs in 3D format. The difference is in the number of bars—three for Numbers '09 and four for Numbers 3. Once you ahve launched the needed version, use File > Open (or File > Recent items) to locte and open the file.

  • I can no longer open a Numbers spreadsheet.

I have a Numbers spreasheet that I use all the time, in fact even earlier today. But when I try to open it now, I get an alert that says: "2013 Current status" can't be opened.
The file started out years ago as a Numbers 2 file. Recently I upgraded to Mavericks a few weeks ago and upgraded Numbers to Version 3.0.
I've been using this file with no problems since the upgrades.
I started walking through my backups and found a version from about 10 days ago that I can open in Numbers 3. None of the intervening versions can be opend in Numbers 3 anymore.
I did a Get Info on the file and I can see its preview and it looks like I expect and even a preview with cmd+space shows me the first page as I left it.
If I drop the file on iWork 2.3 I get what I would expect, an alert telling me I need a newer version of numbers to open it.
So, I had an old Numbers file, I opened it and used it with no problems in Numbers 3 for a while, and now I can't open it.
Does anyone know what I might try?

    Hi Rick,
Sometimes you see problems like that if the document is stored in Dropbox, which so far doesn't play nicely with Numbers 3 documents.  If it does happen to be in Dropbox try moving it elsewhere.
You also sometimes see that if you have it in iCloud and are syncing with other Macs or with iOS devices and a sync "conflict" didn't resolve properly (i.e. it wasn't closed on one machine and was changed on another).
If you have the document in iCloud (which with Numbers 3 is now a good option) then on your Mac you may be able to recover it via Finder by holding down the option key and in the menu Go > Library > Mobile Documents > com~apple~Numbers.
Also, if you haven't already, it may help to update to Numbers 3.0.1 (released yesterday).  It is supposed to have squashed some bugs.
My experience with 3.0 is a little different from Jerry's. It was clearly a rushed product. But I don't have a lot of complex legacy Numbers spreadsheets that would get messed up on import (which seems pretty buggy) and generally find that simple and clear (not simplistic) spreadsheets more often than not are the most effective spreadsheets. I like the fact that many "nice but not necessary" features no longer clutter up the interface and make syncing a nightmare, and that Apple will reinstate some really crucial ones. And the fact that Numbers finally works well on mobile, a big productivity enhancement (think data entry) that MS can't match (yet).

  • How do I save my numbers spreadsheets as Excel as I could in previous version of Numbers?

I updated to MAvericks and right after got a not that iWorks had updates, now my Numvers does not have key functionality that I need in order to send spreadsheets and worknooks back and forth with companies I work with. How do I save my numbers spreadsheets as Excel as I could in previous version of Numbers?

Under the File menu select Export. You'll find Excel as one of the export options there.

  • How do I  save a Numbers spreadsheet as an ASCII spreadsheet

I need to convert an Appleworks spreadsheet to a Numbers spreadsheet and then save it as an ASCII file in order to upload it to my internet site.
Conversion of the AW SS to Numbers is no problem. However, unlike AW, there is no selection I can make in the "Save As" menu to save the Numbers file as an ASCII.
    Any suggestions?

    Peggy:
As you suggested, I copied and pasted my 450 row Numbers table into Pages (12 pages in total) and then converted it to text - I saved it to my desktop and renamed the file with a ".txt" tag. Then I uploaded to the server.
The result when seen on the net is a page with 10 offices with total sales volume, units sold, etc. However, using the above procedure, while I do get the names of the 10 offices, I get no numbers.
If any of you wish to contact my by email, I will direct you Peggy, Jerry and Brie, to the site to see the present result and future effort results.
Thank you for your time and efforts.

  • How do i get a numbers spreadsheet from my mac to my iphone have the numbers app so

i have a numbers spreadsheet on my macbook and the numbers app on my iphone. How do i get the spreadsheet from the mac onto the app on the phone so it updates through icloud

    Not according to Apple.
From the document you referred to:
iCloud makes it easy to move Pages, Keynote, and Numbers documents between your computer and your iOS devices. Just sign in to icloud.com/iwork in any modern web browser, and all your iWork for iOS documents will be there — complete with your most recent edits.
Also, according to Ted Landau (emphasis mine):
To convert an iOS-formatted iWork document to a Mac-compatible format and transfer it from iCloud to your Mac, you must download the file from the iCloud website via a web browser.
Which makes the syncing hack he describes in the rest of the article, which I do not recommend, far less useful.

  • Save a numbers spreadsheet as a simple text document?

How do you save a numbers spreadsheet as a simple text document? I can't seem to find this option anywhere. Simply renaming the extension also seems to maintain rich text.

An extension name is just a reminder helping us and the operating system to recognize which kind is the contents of a given file.
Changing a trousers against a dress will not change Mr. Obama in Mrs. Clinton;-)
    Same thing for the files.
At this time, Numbers doesn't offer the ability to export as a text file.
Happily, our machines are delivered with TextEdit.
Copy the block of cells of your choice to the clipboard
Paste in an empty TextEdit document
    Format > Convert as text
    Save
    That's all folks.
    Of course, you may
_Go to "Provide Numbers Feedback" in the "Numbers" menu_, describe what you wish.
Then, cross your fingers, and wait _at least_ for iWork'09

  • Can I link a pages table to numbers spreadsheet ?

I would like a table in Pages to display current data from a numbers spreadsheet.
Is this possible in Pages and Numbers ?
I do NOT mean copy and paste etc. which does not accomplish what I need.
    Any information gratefully received
This has been possible in several applications for a looooong looooong time.
If I remember rightly Wingz could do this sort of linking 20 years ago.  i.e link data in one document to data in another.
    Regards a

Sorry for that oversight.  I am currently using iWork 08 and skipped 09 because I have gone from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.
A transition I am not altogether happy with .  Not at all impressed by Mavericks so far.
Apple Help promised me a lot would be fixed or restored in Yosemite..... not holding breath.
I am thinking Mavericks is a code for back to the days of the old west since so much seems to have been abandoned...

  • Saving Numbers Spreadsheet

Excel opens at the exact saved row and cell position, is there a way of saving Numbers to do this?

    There lies a major problem.
OpenOffice spreadsheets and similar Office Software such as Neo exhibit the same erratic Apple Mighty Mouse behaviour, with unwanted cell moves etc my work was ruined when using these office suites.
Whereas the Apple Mighty Mouse is very stable and works very smoothly in iWorks 08 Numbers.
With the Neo Office suite installed, I was obliged to use two mice, a Microsoft mouse for Neo spreadsheet as this was stable when doing spreadsheet work and the Apple Mighty Mouse for Aperture. The Mighty Mouse is brilliant when viewing photo's in Aperture, the delicate touch of the scroll is a delight to use.
I was unable to adjust the Apple mouse operating characteristics when using the third party office software and loath to use the Microsoft mouse.
I am now free of Microsofts hardware and software, I much prefer the Apple product over all others.

  • Does iWork '09 Numbers launch for anyone under Yosemite?

iWork '09 Numbers fails to launch under Yosemite.  Suspecting it may be Yosemite related.  iWork '08 Numbers launches and runs ok.  No indications of launch failure in Console.  It just doesn't launch.  This is only important to me because older spreadsheets require opening and saving in iWork '09 Numbers before the new Numbers version under Yosemite can open them.

I finally discovered that I can launch Numbers (iWork '09) (version 2.3) by launching the image internal to the Numbers package (MacOS) in Terminal.  I also discovered that KeyNote shares this same problem but not Pages.
In summary, I cannot launch iWork '09 Numbers or KeyNote via the normal Finder Icon launch.
There are no diagnostics posted to Console when I try the Finder launch, the App just never shows itself nor is it in the running applications list.
Disk Utility shows no permissions issues, and repair shows no issues.  Anyone have any ideas?
I cannot find my iWork '09 install disks but I did a Time Machine restore of Numbers from several years ago but that image exhibits the identical problem.
The iWork '08 apps work just fine under Yosemite.
    Thanks in advance!

  • How best to share Numbers spreadsheet usage between two networked Macs?

I have never really shared files between two users as my wife always had a Windows computer. She recently purchased an iMac and now has Numbers, so we are interested in sharing access to a couple of spreadsheets for household management. I have racked my brain trying to figure out how to share a file like this, expecting to show her how easy it is on a Mac, but so far I am making it look as difficult to figure out as it was for her on a windows network. Needless to say she is not very impressed with me or with file sharing on a Mac!
I have a iWork numbers spreadsheet I wantto share between myself on my iMac and my wife on her iMac on our local/home network. I tried keeping the file in my Public Folder but that apparently is not designed to allow my wife to make changes to and re-save back to the same location in my public folder.
So how else can I set this up to allow both my wife and I to acess (at different times, not simultaneously) the file, make changes, and save it back to the same location? I have a family MobileMe account as well as the local networked iMacs, if that is a possible solution.
I have heard some people talk about the 3rd party tool called DropBox, but I would like to keep to a local/Apple solution if this is possible with Apple hardware/software.
Thanks in advance to all you gurus for whom this is an easy fix.

Share the document via DropBox and discuss changes via iwork.com comments.
Neat idea; I'll check that out later this evening, thanks for the help here.
For sharing the file it seems there are two preferred methods:
    1. create a file sharing local user account to host the share documents entirely on a local network. Pros: not routed through the internet. Cons: requires entering a user name and password for access. *(Can Keychain remember the shared account login credentials and enter this for you automatically to make this process even easier?)*
    2. Use a dropbox account. Pros: no need to enter login credentials each time. Cons: requires internet access to upload and distribute changes.
Any other issues to consider between the two options?

  • HOW CAN I MAKE THE GRIDLINES IN A NUMBERS SPREADSHEET PRINT

I have created a numbers spreadsheet, but when I print it, there are no gridlines.  Because the spreadsheet is a page and a half wide it is hard to follow across to get to the right data.  How can I make the gridline print?

Question asked and answered several times.
Enter the Inspector of Tables and define the borders to fit your needs.

Can't open old Numbers spreadsheet after upgrading Mac to Yosemite. Error message says it should first be upgraded to Numbers 09 but doesn't provide method to do so?  Help?

There is a chance the spreadsheets were made with a Numbers or AppleWorks version so old that it's not compatible anymore with the latest Numbers version (yes this can happen)

  • Can't attach a Numbers spreadsheet to a message in Gmail or Outlook

I can't attach a tiny Numbers spreadsheet to an outgoing message in Gmail or Outlook - in both cases I get the message that the attachment failed.  However, I was able to send it out by attaching to Mail.  I am using a Mid-2010 Mac on Mavericks with completely updated on software as of this date.  Does anyone know what is the issue and if there is a workaround?

    Ali,
I know of no cure for this other than to use another email service. It is Google that rejects how Apple packages Numbers, and there's nothing I have found that skirts that issue. Yahoo Mail works, Apple Mail works, in fact, I don't recall hearing of any other service that rejects iWork documents.
Most of us have more than one email account, so we can get around it by avoiding Gmail for sending Package Files. Gmail will accept iCloud links, so you can share that way if you wish.

  • If I update one device to ios8 can I share numbers spreadsheets with other devices on ios7 and mavericks?

(I posted this in the Numbers forum but didn't get answers, I hope someone in this forum has the answer. Should be straightforward.)
I'm not yet ready to upgrade my iPhone 4S to iOS8 or my computer to Yosemite, but I would like to upgrade my iPad 3.
I have several Numbers spreadsheets that I modify on any of these devices and expect to see the new document on any of the others within a few minutes.
I have seen the warnings not to upgrade to iCloud Drive, and I'm cool with that, since I don't use iCloud on the web browser. But if I simply avoid iCloud Drive is that sufficient? Will I be able to continue syncing my documents among the three devices as before? This note on Apple's Developer pages seems to indicate it may not work:
    Document-Related Data Migration
The iCloud infrastructure is more robust and reliable when documents and data are transferred between user devices and the server. When a user installs iOS 8 and logs into the device with an iCloud account, the iCloud server performs a one-time migration of the documents and data in that user’s account. This migration involves copying the documents and data to a new version of the app’s container directory. The new container is accessible only to devices running iOS 8 or OS X v10.10. Devices running older operating systems can continue to access to the original container, but changes made in that container do not appear in the new container and changes made in the new container do not appear in the original container.
In other words, I might be able to see the document on my iOS8 device but if I make any changes to it I won't be able to see them on the other devices. I'd like to know from someone who has actually tried this whether it will work or not.
    Thanks.

Normal "documents in the cloud" syncing should still continue between devices running iOS 8 and devices running iOS 7 and Macs running Mavericks (or earlier) as long as you do not enable iCloud Drive on your iOS 8 device(s).  As mentioned in the support document, migration to iCloud Drive breaks breaks documents in the cloud syncing as iCloud drive is a completely different system.  (For a time I was running iOS 8 on my iOS devices without iCloud Drive enabled and had no problems syncing iWork documents between them just as they did when running iOS 7.)
