Iwork 09 (try Iwork)

Hello, I Have installed Iwork 09 (Family Pack that I JUst purchased, It Is a DVD Version.
My question is: After installing it, in the menu location under preferences, it says the word ( Try Iwork . . . ) greyed out of course, works ok. with no problems but is it normal to see this word as I Thought the retail version would not say anything about being or was a trial version as it says under the menu. unless the version I Purchased is not a authorized version.

Welcome to Apple Discussions
It's because there is no difference in the content of the downloaded trial & the boxed DVD other than the installer on the DVD has some way of noting it's already licensed.

  • Try Iwork 06 get back to old Iwork????????

I bought Ilife 06, it asked if I would like to try Iwork 06 for 30 days. I said sure. My 30 days has expired. Now I get to continue using Iwrok 06 but I can not save anything........
I want to go back to the old one?? how???

uh, version 6 offers new features, therefore, if you want to use an 06 file in 05, you have to save it as an 05 file. How is this forcing you to upgrade after the demo runs out? It's your responsibility to pay attention to the fact that you're using a demo copy, not Apple's. Because the files use an XML schema, they would have had to release an updated version of 05 in order to have it understand (and ignore) stuff in an 06 file.
Microsoft is going to run into the same problem with the new version of Office. It's xml documents won't open in older versions, you'll have to do a save as and save them back to the older version.
I suppose it would be nice if Apple released some kind of translater, but heck, for a $79 package with lots of new features, it's worth it to just go buy it (in my opinion).

  • It There No Way To Be Rid of the Ghosted "Try iWorks" Menu Option?

I bought a boxed version of iWork 08 and duly registered it. However, the "Try iWorks" menu option is still featured, albeit ghosted.
I understand about the demo/activate nature of the app, but surely I don't need to see its non-existent (at least for me) demo origins every time that menu drops down?
Tell me this will go away with the first iWorks 08 upgrade?
    Kevin Sheridan

    Welcome to the discussions, Kevin.
No way to know if this will be removed. I also registered mine and it seems as though for purchasers of the retail copy, this would never be used anyway (the install for the demo included in iLife was different than the one for the full version, but I'm going to see if both install a "demo").
You can send feedback here though.

  • IWork 05 - iWork 06 8-(

I own iWork 05. With my Intel iMac, iWork 06 was preinstalled. How to continue now, since 06 doesn't accept my 05 key
Do I need to DOWNgrade to 05? May I order an upgrade somewhere?
If I install the 05, will this even work?

There is no upgrade pricing to go from iWork '05 to '06, you would have to buy the new version. You shouldn't have to uninstall iWork '06 to install '05, as installing '06 with '05 already installed just installs a whole new folder. But, if you're not going to buy iWork '06 in the foreseeable future, removing it would be reasonable. Take a look at the bottom section of my user tip, Can’t install iWork after using the iWork trial, that explains what & where all the pieces are that you would need to remove.

  • Iwork won't work after upgrading to Lion

Everytime I try to use an iwork app it doesnt load and a box pops up telling me to check if the app works on my os, does lion not support iwork 08.

iWork 08 is supposed to be Universal (meaning it runs on both powerPC and Intel), so it should work under Lion.
I also found a post googling that indicated the person had to reinstall iWork from the disks, but the problems didn't sound like the message you got.

  • IWork vs. Office

I'm going to be going from a PC to a Mac and need a decent Word processing program to write school papers. Which software should I purchase (I'm only interested in word processing apps), iWork or Office? There's a big price difference, that's why I'm asking.
    Thank you!

I use Pages and OpenOffice (X11). In addition, I use Word on Windows in my daytime job.
Advice Number 1: Do not waste money on Word. It is not even close to desktop publishing software. The only time one needs to have Word is to ensure 100% compatability (in 90+ % of situations is "no").
I use Pages for page layout stuff I create from scratch. (I use OmniOutliner to create the text for the page layout stuff). I find it very good at making pretty documents (Indesign and like packages are beyond my desired capabilities).
I use OpenOffice (which does not cost anything to acquire) for quick compatability with Microsoft Office (e.g., when I am out in the field with my Mac for my day job--this employer is Microsoft Office-based).
I use FileMaker for what many people use spreadsheets for (data management and storage). I use Pages for table summaries and charting, which works well. Once in awhile I have to pull out OpenOffice Calc for some modeling, since iWork does not have this capability.
Almost all my deliverable documents are PDF, so is almost no issue when it comes to compatability with others. My collaboration with others is mostly text-based (which is very easily handled with OpenOffice with "save as .doc" and OmniOutliner with "save as .rtf").
Bottom line, try OpenOffice first, because it does not cost anything. If you want better desktop publishing capabilities, then try iWork.

  • Lack of compatibility iWork iPad vs Mac is galling

Not being able to use different fonts/styles within a table cell in Numbers, not having thumbnails in Pages, etc on the iPad makes productivity limited at best in the classroom. iCloud becomes pretty useless too. Why sync if your document created on the laptop will be totally modified when you make changes on the iPad? This is frustrating since pretty basic. This is substantial stuff, not fluffy. And with new hardware updates coming out every 6 months - and fancy gadget-style features to boot, you can't fix this? Love our MAC/iPad in classroom, but might be looking for alternatives soon if Numbers/Pages on iPad don't become more compatible with the ones on laptop.

    Excellent!
We realized this about a year ago when the rare iWork updates wouldn't solve our remaining issues. One they fixed, and was huge for our situation, we could finally open a Numbers sheet created on MBAir, and keep our colors and styles within a cell. Now, the last big improvement we need is to be able to make changes in a cell on iPad, and not lose all of those colors/styles. We're getting close. Thumbnails for Pages on iPad would make it perfect. Just love to work on the tablet.
We're not looking for full-fledged capability. What we do is pretty basic. And Numbers and Pages on iPad are very good, and best we've tried. We do have MS Office for MAC, but have rarely used it. When we did, it was to test iPad apps (Quick Office, Docs to Go, etc) to solve our issues already mentioned.
And now Apple is coming out with more hardware updates that we will probably eagerly buy. iWork people, iWork! Too bad 3rd-party Devs can't fix this. At least, they would care.
    Thanks for your response, appreciated.

  • Opening a Iwork document on my IPhone.

I must be missing a major component.  After I upload a document from my computer to the cloud where to I go on my Iphone to find the document that I just put into the cloud?

Excuse me, I do not understand what is your problem :
The initial question from you was "where to I go on my Iphone to find the document that I just put into the cloud?"
Now you say you open pages.app on your iPhone and the "document is in pages" .
What do you mean by "my choices do not include iwork" ?
iwork for iOS5 is pages, keynote, numbers combined - i.e. having all 3 purchased and installed on iOS5.
The concept is this : whatever you upload from Mac/PC to icloud.com/iwork goes instantly into the apps on your phone as well as to the cloud browser in Safari. If you have more then one iOS5 device and they use the same Apple-Id, the document will be in all devices simultanous synced. That's how icloud is designed to work.  But document sync is limited to only iOS. It wont sync to Mac, because iwork for Mac is not icloud-capable.
iOS does not allow to store files in a "documents" folder or else in its filesystem. All documents belong to only the app that is able to open it. So doc/docx/pages go into the pages.app while xls/xlsx/numbers go in the numbers.app and so on.

  • Software update iWork, numbers, pages, keynote

    I need your help, please
the latest iWork software update (early FEB09, German Version) does not install. I am still using OS x 10.4, latest version. what can I do?
Many thanks for your early reply. EdmK

Pages, Numbers and Keynote MUST be stored in the same folder.
It's iWork '08 for the old version, it's iWork '09 for the new one.
This scheme is required by the updaters because we may have two or three versions installed.
On my machine are iWork '06, iWork '08, iWork '09.
If you want to be able to access the programs directly from the Applications folder, don't move the programs, create aliases.

PS I'm a designer, not a programmer, so please go light

The error log is telling us that the Inventor.framework is missing. This is installed by iWork and obviously crucial to it working.
Have you moved or renamed the iWork files since reinstalling them? If so, change these back to the way they were.
If not, I'd recommend deleting iWork again but this time using Yvan Koenig's script to totally remove it. Then reinstall iWork, update iWork and only then launch it to see if it works OK.
    To get Yvan's script:
    Go to https://public.me.com/koenigyvan
Choose For iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip
Download uninstall iWork '09.zip, decompress it, open it in AppleScript Editor and click the Run button

  • IWork suit bought on a DVD - will it be updated in Appstore?

My iWork suite (iWork 09) was originally bought on a DVD. Will the apps be updatet in Appstore? Or will I have to buy the new updated versions from Appstore?

  • An Appeal to Apple about the new iWork release

I start with a quote from Jason D. O'Grady at ZDNet written in the beginning of this year:
"Apple is missing a prime opportunity here and basically ceding the market to Microsoft. Its users have a natural aversion to Microsoft products -- at least on the OS level -- and it's baffling that Apple isn't capitalizing on it with regular updates to iWork. Apple could simply add a couple of features, tighten up the UI and release iWork '10, iWork '11 every year (like almost every other software developer does). I know that I'd probably upgrade.
Instead Apple proceeds with its release and abandon strategy."
Why did Apple released this new iWork-version to us serious users? I love my iWork '09 and its truly intelligent and useful interface which has speeded up my workflow tremendously compared with using MS Office.
All users of a program expect that the next version will at least be as good and useful as the previous one, that features have been improved, useful stuff added, improvements leading to an even better and efficient workflow have been added etc. etc.
iWork could have been an important piece in increasing the market share on Macs worldwide and a fantastic alternative to MS Office that most of us are so tired of because of its lack of intuitiveness, poor-working word-formatting and layout-functions etc. etc.
I have been using iWork professionally for years now. The new version is not an alternative for me. It would ruin my iWork-work for years including my business as a technical writer.
    I appeal to Apple:
Call the new iWork version for ’iWork Lite’ or ’iWork for beginners’.
Announce an iWork Pro-version as soon as possible and give an estimation of release date.
Let iWork ’09 be the minimum baseline for the version.
    Assure a good backwards compatibility.
Do not change the basic interface compared with iWork ’09 with for example its customizable toolbar and floating inspector.
Give it a competitive price (compared with MS Office).
Give it great cloud functionality (greater and better than MS Office)
We all need better programs that Microsoft offers us.
You guys at Apple have been on track to make it. I appeal: Switch over to this track again! Today!
    Regards,
    Kim
    A serious user of Apple-products

    Felix Leiter wrote:
I disagree. The floating inspector was very useful as you could keep it away from the writing area, pull it off competely when not needed and call it back on request. At least, this should stay as an option rather than that invasive new sidebar.
I agree. Having the movable Inspectors was one of the best features of iWork. The way it was implemented with the descending order of tabs should have been widely adopted. Not trashed.
I keep my Inspectors and other palettes on a second monitor to allow a full view of my work on the first.
Having an independent Inspector, one not tied to context, allows the User to look for information and options without losing what you are doing at the moment.
Contextual linking suffers from a major problem. You must know the exact selection/combination of actions to make the controls appear. In other words you must know the correctly worded question to get the answer.
Don't get the wording of the question exactly the way the programmers want it and you will never find the answer.
There are examples of that in Pages 4.3, other Apple software and many areas of OSX in recent times.
It is very bad User Interface Design to conceal the access to solutions.
Effectively you turn the software into an Easter Egg hunt. Something that seems to amuse the personalities who program, but not those who are using software to an end and not just playing games.
