IWork apps all stall irresponsive with lion. Is this normal behavior?

All iwork apps, either eat more then 1gb (each) of RAM or stall irresposive since I installed Lion. They stall with copy-paste, or apha selection, or just when opening. Is this normal? Looking forward for a fix.

Hi Steve,
While I can't fully answer your question, maybe I can point you in the right direction.
The network connection iWork applications make at startup is a query for new help content.
This seems like a useful function to me, so I don't know if you'd want to investigate disabling it or not, but apps loading slowly is never fun!
If you can't get your Network Administrator to fix the problems with using Macs on your network, I'd look around for something to do with non-permanently disabling this function through a .plist edit. I know that's what you're doing already, but maybe knowing what function it is you're after will help you find what you're looking for!

iWork apps no longer sync with iCloud. I am on iOS 5.1,1, and this problem is several days old, before it was working fine. Anyone has an idea?

Sadly this is not a new problem and I would not expect a forthcoming solution.  I bought an iPad 3G and the iWork suite at the end of August and iCloud syncing worked fine.  About the time Apple rolled out iOS 6 the syncing stopped working for me (without me upgrading or changing anything).  It has never really worked since.   Run iOS 5.1.1 on both the iPhone 4 and iPad 3G.  The "geniuses" claim that Apples iOS 5 requirement is not correct and that I MUST upgrade both to ios 6 (although I know for fact that lots of folks STILL have the iCloud probs even with its 6.  The last genius basically shrugged and non-verbally acknowledged the iCloud/iWork failing and suggested "just use Dropbox.". So why the **** did we pay for iWork!?!?!
Basically the  iwork/iCloud Connnection is broken and I have yet to get a viable solution to repair the issue.  Sorry for the bad news.  For reference I have uninstalled/installed each iteration of iWork upgrades on each device without success.  I have reset all settings multiple times, turned iCloud off/on repeatedly etc etc without success.  I even wiped the iPad and restored from iCloud w/o intention (another Apple IPad "glitch" when I tried the "reset all settings" and the iPad decided to "erase all" instead.  The genius said "it happens.")
Oddly, the Pages app is the only one that has marginally worked at times since the first probs.  However it is basically broken and non-functioning.  Certainly DO NOT trust vital documents to iCloud/iWork.  I lost a number of work critical docs in this whole annoying, messy process of trying to get what Apple promised as easy....

  • Is there a way of using IE7 with Mountain Lion? There used to be this facility using Safari "Develop" with Lion, but this doesn't seem to work with ML

Is there a way of using IE7 with Mountain Lion? There used to be this facility using Safari "Develop" with Lion, but this doesn't seem to work with ML

Thank you for this, and to Caleb.
I've tried using Caleb's approach (which is the same as I used with Lion), but the programme doesn't respond now that I have installed Mountain Lion.
My problem is that I do not want to use IE7 but that a programme I need regular access to will only allow IE7 and I've been told by the developers that it is too expensive to upgrade this programme to allow it to be used by other browsers.
So, my puzzle remains the same. I could access IE7 and use the programme using Caleb's solution with Lion. I can't do the same with Mountain Lion. I do (I think!) understand your point about the programme requiring IE7 specifically, but if it worked on Lion, why isn't it working on Mountain Lion? Or was I just lucky before?
I'll try mende1's approach, though I doubt I'm technical enough to virtualise anything!
Thanks again. Any further thoughts welcome.

My iPhone 5 gets really hot while using it.. its only my 2nd day with it is this normal?

I had same issue, apple give me a new phone, they say it might be software problem, but the 2nd phone has fast drain too, I took it to apple , they restored my phone as new, and iCloud backed up my contact. I thought about the whole thing, I used to sync it to my window, but this time I synced it with my Mac. 87% at 3:30pm. I think that window has bugs. It is not my iPhone 5's problem. After all those stressful days.

  • How can I install iWork '09 on new MacBook with Lion?

I have an install DVD for iWork '09 (9.0.3), and I've been running iWork on my iMac for several years without a problem, even after upgrading to Lion. Now I have a new MacBook Air with Lion preloaded and am trying to install iWork on the new machine. I was able to install from the DVD using drive sharing, but when I try to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote, I get a message that says "Pages cannot be opened because of a problem" -- presumably because I need to update iWork for Lion. After downloading the iWork 9.1 update, I tried to open it but get an error message that says "A newer version of Keynote has already been installed."
This doesn't make sense to me, since the version I installed from the DVD is definitely older. How can I update iWork to run on my new machine?
By the way, I tried just copying the programs from my iMac with AirDrop, and I get the first error message I mentioned above.

    MN,
I don't know why the Drive Sharing idea didn't work. I can think of reasons that copying with AirDrop wouldn't work.
At some point you may just want to give up and purchase Pages using the Mac App Store. It's ridiculously cheap and easy.
I worry that you have so much inoperable iWork stuff on this computer that it needs a good clean-up, whichever way you decide to go.
Yvan Koenig has a script to do the purging of old copies of iWork files that you can run before you make any more attempts at installing iWork or any of its components. It the last item on this page as of this writing...

My iPod Touch is running on ios 7. In the last two and a half all the apps of my iPod have been suddenly wiped out twice. I had to download all the apps all over again. Why has it happened?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I have installed Windows 7 into my Macbook Pro 15 inch with Lions as operating system.  (current model with 2.2 GHz i7 processor, 500 GB HD ad 5400 rpm).  When I started with boot camp, the system promped me to create a disc, which I presume is for the drivers for windows 7.  Now windows is intalled.  What do I do with the CD that the system created for me?  Also, why does the system automatically start in Win7 instead of Lion.  I need to pression the option key to have it start in OS X.  I thought it was supposed to be the opposite.

Insert it while you are in Windows, if it does not autostart run setup.exe.
Choose your startup disk using Apple>System Preferences>Startup Disk (in OSX) or Control Panel>Boot Camp>Startup Disk (in Windows)

  • IWork apps cannot be opened in Lion.

Moving to a new MacBook Pro with 10.7.3 and iWork 09 apps "cannot be opened because of a problem".Trying to update iWork and keep getting message: "Alert - A newer version of Keynote is already installed" even after reinstalling iWork from the disk.

Find the newer version using spotlight.
Just type "iWork" or "Keynote". Choose the first option in spotlight, "show all".
From the resulting Finder window, sort by 'Date created'. (If that option is not shown, click on any item in the Finder window once, hold down the 'control' key and click again. In the dialogue box that appears, check the box next to 'Date created'. Close the box. In the finder window, sort by Date created.)
From this, you should be able to locate the newest version. Test by double-clickng and see if it runs.
At the bottom of the Finder window, you should be able to see the path telling you its lcoation. If you can't see that, go up to the menubar at the top of your screen and choose 'View > Show Path bar'.
Look at the path bar. If the newest version is not in the Applications folder, quit the app and then move it there. If it is in the Apps folder already, then click on the older versions and see where they are located.
Move all older version to trash, but don't empty it yet.
Instead, restart your mac. Without opening the app first, locate any pages/keynote/numbers file and double click on it. If iWorks opens up as expected, you can empty the trash of the old versions.

  • PowerPC apps won't work with Lion

I have an application that is no longer working as the message says Lion no longer supports ower PC apps?
Is there any work around for this?

The app that is giving the most people fits is Quicken.  Other than running Quicken for Windows in a virtual program (like Parallels) (which I already do), there are no really good alteratives to Quicken (not that Quicken for Mac was ever any good to begin with).

  • Is there any maintenance at all, to run with Lion? 6 years ago...

Maintenance? I asked this same question 6 years ago when I got my iMac/Tiger. Other than shutting down properly, making sure Firewall is on, not running any anti virus programs (in most cases) and avoiding most 3rd party utility programs. Is there anything needed other than Repair Permissions? (I know that this too, is a contoversial subject....Thanks, Bill

If you want to you can also run the built-in maintenance scripts. These scripts are scheduled to run between 03:15 and 05:30, so they won't run quite often. There are two ways to run these scripts manually:
    1. With Yasu (Download: http://jimmitchell.org/yasu/ )
    2. In the Terminal with this command:
    sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
Please copy and paste it and do not type it since it is a "sudo" command.
This command will execute the daily, weekly and monthly script. You can also run only one script if you want to. You won't see any graphical output in the terminal.

  • Why can't I use any of my apps after updating OS X Lion. This is ridiculous. I was doing just fine without the updates till last week.

I updated my apps a couple of days back. Now I'm not even able to use my microsoft word simple documents. I can't open my lesson plans, my homework, my kids pictures....nothing. What am I missing?

  • Will i lose apps when I install mountain lion?

I'm concerned that I will lose vital applications such as QuickBooks for Mac if I upgrade to Mountain Lion.  I know that in the past non-compliant software simply didn't have access to all features.  With Lion, however, I lost non-compliant applications all together.  I want to make sure I will not experience a similar problem now (and, please, do not scold me for buying intuit.  I already know they take forever to impliment changes on the Mac).

Apps that did run succesfully in Lion will usually continue to do so. The problem with Lion was the absence of rosetta for old ppc apps such as Microsoft Office 2004 or some games .
Because MountainLion is the refined Lion so to speak and the Lion users already are aware of the ppc problem, everything should run smooth as butter.
The only thing new to OSX 10.8 is Gatekeeper that could hinder a succesful installation or execution (because it tries to block every not signed app/installer ) , for me GK is a doubtful feature, which I have set to disabled after it first asked me - "allow from any source" is then the same as it was in Lion and before, you can install every Intel app that is intended for Lion .
But -if you plan to use Gatekeeper - : you can also bypass Gatekeeper via right-clicking an installer one time and leave it enabled for all the other apps.
Nobody can do the testing for you of course. You might want to install OSX 10.8 to a external drive to evaluate the apps you are worrying about. Then if you are succesful you could re-run the installer to update the main drive also  .
