IWork discount with refurbished Macs?

Hi there everyone, I was just wondering...
When you buy a new Mac, you get a A$30 discount on iWork 09.
Can you get this discount if you buy a refurbished Mac?
I am planning on buying a refurbished MacBook Pro, buying the iWork 09 family pack and upgrading all the Macs in the house from 08 to 09.
Thanks, mickbab.

We are not Apple.

My guess is that since everything else about the refurbished Macs is the same as new ones, you might be in luck.

  • Student Discount On Refurbished Macs?

Hey guys! I'm starting college in a couple of weeks and I am planning on buying a Macbook. I was just wondering if my student discount can be applied to any of the refurbished Apple products? A new one with my student discount costs the same as a refurbished one, so you may as well go with the new one really. Anyways, if anybody knows, that would be awesome. Thanks!

No, academic discounts are not available on refurbished items.

  • Do students get discounts on refurbished Macs?

I am going to be purchasing a Mac soon and it is my first one. I want to get a refurbished one, just to save a little bit, but I was just wondering if I would be allowed to use the student discount on a refurbished one?

No, since refurb's are already discounted, you cannot apply a second discount to the refurb prices.

  • Do refurbished Mac minis get Black Friday discount from Apple Store?

Does Apple Store apply Black Friday discounts to refurbished items too?
Thinking about buying this $100 discounted Mac Mini from Apple store now or on Black Friday.
If anyone knows Apple Store's previous year's deals please share with me.
    Thank you

    Hi,
I recently bought a MBP 2.0 / 15-inch glossy / 80GB / 512MB / 128 VRAM that was a refurb. I bought it from an Apple Retail Store, so could see it before I bought it. You really couldn't tell it had ever been used, it was like new. However, I had a problem with the SuperDrive and was forced to return it. I now have a new MBP because of that (and th SuperDrive in week 35 models seems to have been updated.
The drive in my new model is a HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080M, but the drive in my previous model (week 30 build) was a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857, which I believe had some problematic issues that (seemingly) have been resolved by this new drive.
Best of luck with your choice.

    Hi,
I have iWork '06 on my Mac (running OS 10.6.8). Will I be able to use the Keynote files it produces with the Keynote iPad app?
    Thanks,

You probably can open the Keynote '06 files with Keynote for iOS but not the other way around. Files created by the iOS iWork apps can only be opened by iWork '09 apps on the Mac.

I would doubt it as Mavericks was only released a few days ago. Check under About This Mac and it will tell you what OSX it is running.

  • Am I eligible for one to one with a refurbished Mac?

I bought a refurbished iMac online. Am I eligible for all support services like one on one or set up?

One-on-One is not a free service, and must be purchased at the same time you buy your Mac. Refurbished Macs do qualify, though:

All other services provided by your local Apple Store are available to you.

  • Buying a refurbished mac.

I'm going to start with an apology if this is in the wrong place, I'm new to the forums and just finding my way about. Please feel free to shout at me or move this post to a more suitable place.
Anyhow, hi there everybody, I'm a (shudder) PC user at the moment, finally sick of Bill Gates and all his crap, and looking to make the switch to a Mac.
It's that time again where I need a new computer, and have a limited budget of £500 to spend.
I am an arts student, so will mainly use my computer for running programs such as Adobe Photoshop and After Effects, image and video editing programs.
So I asked around a bit a few people are telling me that you can pick up some pretty sweet deals through buying a refurbished Mac.
So my question is what's the best way to go about finding a good deal on a refurb mac. I am looking for an iMac, basically the best and most recent I can get for around £500. I've had a brief look on the web but can't find much. So any tips on hothouses for refurb macs would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks very much everyone!
    -S.

    Hi hamkins -
I'm afraid 500 quid isn't going to get you too far on the Apple Refurb Store, take a look at the link below and you'll see what I mean -
    http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/9604042/wo/hHLlJdww28Fj3NSBn AW1JZNEMOk/3.0.0.26.9.5.7.1.2.1.1
As you can see there's very little in your price bracket. Which leaves you with a couple of options. Try somehow to get some more cash together. Or try your hand somewhere else like eBay. If you do try somewhere else then try to make sure you get an Intel-based machine not a G5.
If you're a student you may be able to get some discount, I'm not sure though, you'd need to check with Apple.

  • Refurbished Mac question.

I'm thinking of buying myself a 15-inch MacBook Pro, mainly so I can replace my dyeing 2 year old 17-inch MacBook Pro. I saw some great prices on refurbished Macs online. But before I buy one, is there something I should know about buying a refurbished MacBook Pro? What were your experience with a refurbished computer? What should I expect? And if I have any issues can I take it in to a  retail store and get it fixed or would I have to send it out and get it fixed because it's a refurbished unit? Thanks

My friends and I almost exclusively buy refurbished now. There have been no problems you wouldn't get with a new Mac...in fact my last warranty service was with a "new" Mac I paid full price for, the discount refurbs have not had problems.
And if I have any issues can I take it in to a  retail store and get it fixed or would I have to send it out and get it fixed because it's a refurbished unit?
Kappy's link has the answer: The warranty and service level are exactly the same as for new units.

  • Refurbished mac: apps need to be purchased?

I purchased a refurbished mac and when updating apps App Store keeps prompting "'Pages' (keynote, numbers, etc) was purchased using the App Store on another computer. To use “Pages” on this computer, sign in using the Apple ID and password used to purchase it."  I thought I was supposed to get all the apps for free without connection to the previous owner.  What do I need to do to get them for free?

Then contact them. Have you registered it? Your Support Profile for Registered Purchases. Did you check your Purchases page in App Store for the free downloads?
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.

The discounts are gone. Qualifying purchases result in obtaining a code that lets you obtain USD$100 in software from the Mac App Store.
I believe at least here in the UK you can get a discount on a qualifing Mac, aswell as a £65 GBP gift card for the mac app store, i checked to start off with on the page for the discount, but it only shows the MacBooks and iMac which all have discounts of hundred+
Thanks a lot by the way M, I didn't want to call them until I tried the free way.

You need a Firewire cable to run between the two Macs.  Using Utility>Migration Assistant running on your new MacBook Pro, transfer what you want (with all the preferences and such) from your MacBook to your MBP.  Here's more info from Apple.
You might have an issue with the Serial number for Office, but hopefully you have that around.
    Hope this helps.

  • Where do you find a refurbished Mac Mini other than Apple?

Bare w/ me for a moment.  Here's my situation...
I currently have a 2003 1.25 Ghz single processor MDD.  I got it on eBay for about $200 a few years ago and it looks almost brand new.  Also have about $200 in replacing the hard drive, PRAM battery and adding more RAM to the limit of 2GB.  I love the Mac, but it's been doing the infamous start-up problem lately.  Have read here that the PRAM battery needs replaced, since it was unplugged for a while.  Am in the process of ordering a new battery...
Anyway, if (hope not!) the MDD becomes toast, I can't afford and don't have the time to fix it.  If it dies, I'll need to sell (how much is a dead MDD worth?) or give it to another Mac person that would want to work on it...  I certainly would not put it in the landfill (I try to be "green.")!  It runs Tiger and was thinking about upgrading it to Leopard, but that OS is at least $100 on eBay...  Am getting scared that the MDD isn't going to be reliable and I want to stay with a desktop.  I do not want an iMac because of they're too expensive and hard to upgrade if needed.  Certainly don't want a G5 with all of its cooling etc. problems.  Apple is making it hard on chosing a decent desktop, IMO.  I am a Windows "switcher" and like Mac and its easy way of doing most things.  Certainly don't want to be forced to go back to uh, Windows just because of limited destop choices...!
Anyway, back to the subject matter at hand...
Have looked at used Minis on of course, eBay.  Can't believe that a lot of them are going for ridiculous prices, as a new one from Apple is about $700 (which I think is insane!).  Of course, my budget is limited and most the ones that are in my price range are the G4's.  Have read how "fun" it is to upgrade the G4's etc., and I don't want to even miss with that if I had to!  I can't afford the refurbished ones from Apple.  They're almost as expensive as a brand new one.  Have only found refurblised ones at Power Max, but most of them only have small drives (80GB or less) and less than 1GB of RAM.  Are there any other companies that have refurbished Minis available at a decent price?  I wouldn't be able to afford much more that $350-$400.
Sorry for rambling on, but I maybe getting at wits end, if the MDD croaks!  Just want to see what my possible options are.  Thanks.

when it doubt, purchase applecare. we have been successful in applying applecares to cowboom items
and then having them fix small problems, like a bad wireless card, but your milage will vary. apple wont
applecare ebay items, but best buy is a licensed apple dealer so they might go for it.
we have received scratch and dents from cowboom, but so far apple of course won't remove the
dents or scratches of course, but for other problems with refurbished or reconditioned cowboom items
    applecare has been most generous
ive also noticed that amazon is a good place to buy new mac products, they had a gold box deal on a mac mini server
just recently for a little over $900.
microcenter is a good place too to buy mac books new too
