IWork Installation Problem & Pages 06 CORRUPTING Pages 05 Templates

iWork 06 gives the oft mentioned error & re-installation does not work, even after removing all iWork files.
Pages 06 seems to work but has corrupted ALL of my templates from 05 version. I use it for ALL my business forms so it's a big deal.
If I restart in 05 version, templates appear to be fine.
Seems I paid $ 79 for 06 and can't use it. HELP!

Pages 06 seems to work but has corrupted ALL of my
templates from 05 version. I use it for ALL my

If I restart in 05 version, templates appear to be
fine.
So the corruption only appears when you open the template in '06? If they are opened in '05 they are fine?
I'm not sure if this will work, but you may want to try it (and, thankfully, you can run both versions at the same time)
1. archive your entire My Templates folder (just to be safe)
2. Create a new document with each of your templates (try it with one or two first) Save this file, but not as a template.
3. Open the file (not the template) in Pages from iwork'06.
Check for the corruption you alluded to.
Let us know here how this works. (If this works, then there is a distinct issue with how legacy templates are interpreted by the new program)

Downloaded trial version and subsequenty purchased box version Did not remove trial version before attempting to install from DVD. It says installation successful but errors when attempting to open all IWork programs?

Those accustomed to this forum know that we must remove the trial version before installing the DVD vertsion.
This is why I built a script dedicated to this task.
    Go to my idisk :
    <http://public.me.com/koenigyvan>
    download :
    For_iWork:iWork '09:uninstall iWork '09.zip
Expand it then run the script.

  • Pages 09 installation problem on Marvericks

I am trying to get Pages 09 to work on a new Mac Pro running OS X 10.9.2
The new Mac Pro has a clean install (no migration from the old machine) and I am installing iWorks from the original DVD and then updating to version 4.3 (1048) using the installer from Apple's support site. Restarted the machine after the install before launching Pages.
    My problems:
    1. When I try to open a document using File -> Open File... (from within Pages 09) and select a pages document that was copied from my old machine (and never opened in Pages 5) I get only an error dialog with the message "The document "document_name.pages" couldn't be opened." without any indication what might be wrong. I checked the fonts and trashed the preferences and those are not the culprits.
    2. I cannot even create a new document in Pages 09. After File -> New I am presented with an empty template chooser (the whole area is completely black). Clicking on the Choose button anyway results in Pages hanging and I have to force quit the app.
This is highly frustrating because I have some important documents that get mangled quite badly when I open (a copy of) them in Pages 5. I really would like to get this working on the new Mac Pro.
I would highly appreciate if anyone had a similar experience and found a solution (or any other ideas I should try).

    Bill
You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions. You need to select the file and right click > Open with or open the documents from within the correct App.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • Child Page of CS5 Template is corrupted?

New user, just having completed and successfully uploaded first website. Looked great, worked great, even in IE. Then about a week later, when I went to make some edits in Dreamweaver, found that one of the pages now seems not to be using the template properly. All pages use same template, but this one rogue page had the wrong font sizes (too large for H1, H2, P both in menu and main content) despite proper tags; divtag width was reduced; and the top padding was gone. Also, when viewed online in IE, this one page is at the far left of screen, whereas pages using the template correctly are centered. Other pages still used the template correctly. Nothing I did to the template, the child page or the CSS corrected the problem. Then I made an edit to page title on another page, and suddenly, that page now has the same problem as soon as I hit "save". I haven't uploaded the edits because one page gone berzerk is bad enough, don't want to upload with 2 bad pages. Now I'm afraid to edit any more pages in case it is spreading...
Thought perhaps it was a virus, but scans come up clean. What could be causing this to happen? How is it spreading if not a virus? What can I do to correct the problem?
Details: Using CS5 for Windows, brand new laptop. Views as incorrect in Dreamweaver and online in IE (all versions), but views fine in other browsers. See sanluispsychotherapy.com (index page looks right; problem page is "common questions") in IE. Browserlab indicates it looks fine in all other browsers.
    Thanks for any help!

On that questions page, this meta tag is misplaced -
<meta name="description" content="Accelerated psychotherapy with a licensed psychologist in San Luis Obispo
to overcome depression, anxiety, and all that holds you back from living a more satisfying life." />
It should be placed in one of the editable regions in the head of the page, not above the doctype, where it is now.

  • Problems producing W3C-valid template-built pages

    Folks:
    DW CS3 on Intel Mac
    CMX Design-Time Extension
I would like my site to pass the W3C markup validator,
    http://validator.w3.org/.
My site design is straightforward: I've got a single
custom-built template page, "index.php" for the layout of my site.
There's no content in this file. The header of this file contains a
link to my site's single master CSS style-sheet.
All content comes from one of over 100 html "contact-chunk"
files, each of which contains only "bare" HTML, no header or
trailer material at all, no <!DOCTYPE...> nor <html>
    ... <head> ... </head> ... <body> ..
</body> stuff at all. One of these contact-chunk files is
included at each page-load. The details are not important.
Wait, I lied: Each of those contact-chunk files contains a
bare link to the site's master CSS style-sheet, like this:
    <link href="/TheMasterStyleSheet.css" rel="stylesheet"
    type="text/css">
"Bare", meaning NOT enclosed by <head> ...
</head> or anything else. DW requires just the link so it can
detect the site-wide style-sheet and let me apply styles from it to
    the "content-chunk" files.
When complete pages are served to clients, that extra link
would ordinarily mean the browser would see two different external
style-sheet links from the composite page at load-time, which is is
not allowed. This is in fact flagged as an error by W3C validator.
There is no sense in giving browsers known-invalid code! It
makes total sense to me that links to external styles-sheets need
to occur just once,in the header of such composites as they are
seen by browsers. It also makes sense to me that the contact chunk
    files could not contain <html> ... <head> ...
    </head> ... <body> .. </body> tags because these
would be nested within the <body>... </body? structure in
    the template page. Confusion!
Thanks to the DW designers, there's a way to avoid sending
    the second style-sheet link: DW's Design-Time Style-Sheet mechanism
    allows me declare specific style-sheet links as Design-Time ONLY;
the specified links are stripped before the files are uploaded. DW
CS3 supports only page-by-page declarations, But with the
    minimal-cost "CMX Design-time" extension (
    http://www.communitymx.com/abstract.cfm?CID=61265)
added, I can make these declarations on a site-wide basis. Cool!
All the above seems quite reasonable and how-it-must-be for
template-include designs. However,I have found two problems:
    1. The Design-Time Style Sheet Mechanism works unpredictably
When I tell the CMX Design-time Extension to exclude my
master CSS style-sheet link from all .html files, site-wide, it
apparently does what it is required to make this happen: it creates
.mno files in _notes folders corresponding to all .html files in
the source tree. (The only files with .html extensions in my source
tree are such content-chunk files.) Without the extension, I'd end
up with identical files after manually applying Text--> CSS
Styles -->Design-Time individually to all the content-chunk
    files.
I did have some successful test runs on individual content
chunk files, so I know the Design-Time Mechanism is fundamentally
    sound.
Yes, I am certain I re-PUT all the .html files to the server
to allow the specified CSS link in each to be stripped. There is
only one external style-sheet, and I'm certain I specified that
one. Yes, I looked in the DW and extension documentation for
    additional information.
    2. This Design-Time Style Sheet mechanism is completely
ineffective for embedded styles in content-chunk files..
I think embedded styles are completely legal, and make
perfect sense when particular styles are needed only for one source
file. A few of my contact-chunk files contain these.
    My questions:
Question 1: How to assure that the DW Design-Time mechanism
is activated and works consistently? Or how to debug it? What
exactly should appear in the _notes/*.mno files?
Question 2: Assuming both my development machine and the
server are running Unix, is there any downside to picking a
distinctive extension for content-chunk files? Any standard? How
    about ".ihtml" e.g., "foo.ihtml"?
Question 3: Is there any alternative that preserves embedded
styles in my design? (I think it is inevitable that I'll need to
move my local styles to the master CSS style-sheet or use in-line
styles. I'm just checking in case I've missed a clever
    alternative.)
Question 4: I'm doing a lot of work to make this design work
with site-wide CSS, and each time I solve one issue, another one
pops up. In my experience, that pattern either means I'm trying to
use a subtle, complex mechanism, which simply takes a while to get
right. Or that I've committed a fundamental design error, and
there's possibly a much easier way to accomplish the same result.
    Which?
    TIA,
    Henry

Won't work. The chunks are going in the body. Links to
    stylesheets in the
body are invalid HTML and ignored by the browsers.

This makes no sense. A page can have oodles of links to
    external
stylesheets, but they must all be in the head of the page.
    > 1. The Design-Time Style Sheet Mechanism works
    unpredictably
Perhaps it's more accurate to say that the CMX extension
    works unpredictably
with DT Stylesheets. I've never seen an instance of DT
    stylesheets failing,
either in my hands or in anyone else's. Your report is the
    first. I think
CMX will have to help you with this one.

Nope - embedded styles are illegal in this sense.

Nope. You could use 'monkeybutt' if you wanted. However, if
    you want DW
to recognize that extension as containing HTML code you would
    need to
    'register' it with DW -

Yes, you can give each "chunk" chunk-specific container
    names, and place the
desired chunk-specific CSS selectors in the parent CSS.

  • HELP with Problem creating a page from a template Suggestions PLS.

Nadia was kind enough to give me step by step in creating a template the right way.
Problem is why won't it work?
    1) I create a page exactily like I want the templete to look.
    2) I save the child page as a template.
    3) I go to FILE>NEW>Page from template, look at the template on the insert on the right and it is just as I would expect it to be. The update is checked on change. I say ok and what appears on screen is I have lost all my formatting. When I look at the code, creating a page from the template causes the process to change the location of (for instance) the background image gif file from ...images/background.gif to the full location name starting the string at the C:/ all the way to ...background.gif. Therefore, the created page from the template loses all of its formatting.
How do I fix this problem????

Okay, here I go again with this problem step by step.
    1) Created a basic page that has a header, body and footer: www.goodimage.com and saved it as maintemp.html .
    2) I saved maintemp.html in the normal place where all the html are stored because as I was creating the template it told me I needed to save the page I was working on. So I decided to store it as an html until as it was layed out. Then I went to FILE/SAVE AS TEMPLATE storing it as maintemp.dwt.
    3) Then I created an edItable area called BODY.
    4) Then I did a FILE/SAVE AS TEMPLATE or tried to. As part of this process it wants to know if I want to UPDATE LINKS. If I do then the links will reference the template folder (but it is the DW default - hmmm what do I do) When in doubt take the default. So I did.
    5) So now I have a nice looking template called maintemp.dwt with one editablel region. So I feel pretty good until I suspect the next problem I have been fighting all along will appear. I select FILE/NEW PAGE FROM TEMPLATE and I see goodimage site, and my template called maintemp and a nice picture of it on the right screen part. Also update page when template changes is checked. Then I select to do the action.
    6)  Upcomes an unformatted screen caused by the links not being correct. I save the page as index.html to see if it will correct itself. I does not correct itself. So the index.html page is not formatted even after I closed down DW to see if that would help. It didn't. So I could go in and manually update the page but what a mess that would be.
    7) So I will go back to create a page from the maintemp.html with the UPDATE LINKS turned off. Using maintemp.html to create a template just like in step 2). When UPDATE LINKS is not selected then the template falls apart and is unusable.
I HAVE WASTE ABOUT THREE DAYS ON THIS ONE PROBLEM AND I HAVE BUT A FEW MORE HOURS TO GET IT DONE. ONCE THIS WORKS IT WILL GO FAST. I AM TIRED OF BEING TIRED BUT MAYBE THAT IS CAUSING MY PROBLEM. ANYWAY, PLEASE HELP AS I AM AT A LOSE.

  • Updating child pages from a template in CS4

I built a site that uses one template.  Everything was going along fine I'd make a change to the template and I was able to update all the child pages.  I made changes to the template yesterday and nothing updates.  I try using the update the site... I choose the files that use  and the one template I have and none of the pages update.  I've tries re-saving the template file as a template and still nothing updates.
It has never immediately done an automatic update to the pages.  It always seems to be a while before the update these pages pallette comes up.  And again sometimes it will update all the pages, but most of the time not.
I've done a search of the discussions to see if I could find a solution, before I posted this.  The ones I found do not have a solution that works for me.
So does anyone know what to do?
On a related issue... I usually create a page save the page to the site folder and then apply the template.  I have tried to create the page from the template, but the graphic in the background of the container div doesn't show up.  I usually have to then apply the template to the newly created page to get that to show up.  So what's up with this?
    Thank you!
    Nina

Try saving the page to the site after creating it, even though the graphic doesn't show up.  It should appear when you save it.
Just for drill, here is my "Seven Common Mistakes" post - do any of these cover your situation?
Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
    1.  Rename the Templates folder
    2.  Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
    3.  Move a template out of the Templates folder.
    4.  Make changes to an editable region of the Template (which will not propagate)
    5.  Assume that Template changes will be effected by just uploading the changed Template file to the server without also uploading the changed local files
    6.  Corrupt the site cache so that the link between Template and child page is broken
    7.  Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the Template, adding page specific content, and resaving the Template with an *.html extension rather thanits *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done).  If you *have done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DW) using FILE | New > Page from Template, select the Template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them.  Have you done any of those?

  • New problem with Pages document page setup

Although previously working fine, while using Pages, custom page set up settings are taking effect. Trying to do a business card setting of 3.54 x 2.05 with no margins. It always comes back with a 8 1/2" x 11" page. I restarted pages, then rebooted the mac, and continue having this problem. Other test sizes now seem to be giving me the same result.
I am going to: Page setup, paper size, manage custom sizes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
This forum is dedicated to the productivity application, AppleWorks. It is not a "catch-all" for how Apple computers work. Your question would best be asked in the Pages ‘08 forum.
That being said, as with most programs, when something was working & stops doing so, the usual culprit is corrupt preferences. Go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences & delete the com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist & restart Pages.

  • Pages (or Numbers) Template Cannot Be Opened From Outside the Application

Ever since the upgrade to Mavericks, I cannot open a Pages (or Numbers) template without being asked.....
Do you want to add this custom template to the Template Chooser?  Then my only options are Cancel or Add to Template Chooser.
If I cancel, it won't open anything.
But this template is already in my Template Chooser.
So the only way to open a template in Pages (or Numbers) is to open the application first, and then click "New", and choose the template.
I can't figure out a way to open the template from outside the application, which is very very handy, rather than having to open the application every time that I want to access a template.
How can I open a template simply by clicking on it?

Yes, the problem is that opening the template from outside of the application will not open the application, showing the document.  I only get this....

Put your Pages or Numbers document on your desktop and open it by double-clicking it, and you'll understand.  You can't do it, even if the template is in your template chooser.
The only way to do this now is to open the application, select "New", and the select the template.  So you cannot open a template from outside the application....only from within.

  • How do I change a single page in a template site without detaching it?

I'm using a template for the first time.  Please help.  The template has an editable content area that is a certain size.  At the bottom of the page (below this editable content area) is a footer that is part of the template and is thus non-editable on all pages except for the main template page.
Here is the problem:  I want to put a taller image on one page (the image will go in the editable content area) but it is taller than the content area I had set aside in the template.  Once I place it there, the footer (which is fixed in the template) is across the lower part of the image.
I don't want to detach the page from the template unless I have to because I want updates to be site-wide.  How do I enlarge the content area on that one page so that it will not affect the content area on the other pages and will still, on that one page, move the footer down so it won't be across the image?
I have tried a lot of different things.  Thanks for answering here and at this e-mail:  [email protected]  I appreciate it.  Richard

Without seeing your page, this seems less like a template problem and more of a design strategy problem.
You should be building flexible pages that can handle increased content, text-sizes, image sizes, etc...
CSS height property is a restriction in all but IE browsers.  Either remove height property from your content areas or consider using a more flexible min-height.
More on min- and max- height & widths --

    Hope that helps,

    login_directory = /Users/yourname
If the Library folder is not shown in your login directory, then open a Finder window, and press command+J. This will open a Finder View Options panel. On it, there is a selectable entry to Show Library Folder. Once this is selected, the Library folder will appear. Now, follow the instructions in my May 6 post. You will have to right-click on com.apple.iWork.Pages and choose Show Package Contents, before continuing.
    Correction: login_directory/Library/Containers/com.apple.iWork.Pages/Data/Library/Applicatio n Support/User Templates/
The host software persists in changing the correct Application Support text above to Applicatio n Support, which does not exist.

  • I transferred a pages file from ipad to mac (also pages) via email for editing. However received message that cannot save edited document to the mac because "trial period has expired for iwork"! I have purchased pages for both machines separately. Ideas?

I transferred a pages file from ipad to mac (also pages) via email for editing. It opened normally. However, after editing, received message that cannot save edited document to the mac because "trial period has expired for iwork"! I have purchased pages for both machines separately and presumed they would work without a hitch. Am I missing something?

It used to be that to update the trial to the licensed version with the box, you just inserted the DVD & ran the installer to convert the trial to licensed. This changed with Snow Leopard. You now need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

  • Problem w/2 pages in a 44pg. catalog outputting to a PDF

Using Mac OS 10.6.8, ID 7.0.4 been a MAC user since 1988.
Been working on a 44 page catalog for about the last month and during that time producing PDF's for the client to proof. Everything has been going fine...until today. Now when I output a PDF, pages 8-9 don't produce crop marks, a colored text box doesn't show up and a dialog box comes up and say, "You may have problems viewing this document correctly. Please contact the person that created this doc". I've gone through hours of trying to eliminate what it could be w/no success. BUT...if I take—say page 9—in the pages panel and drag it down to the end of the catalog it outputs fine.
I even inserted 2 new pages above pages 8 and 9, slected all the content and dragged it to the new pages (which of course now become the NEW pages 8 and 9) and it still doesn't produce a PDF right. Still missing crop marks & colored text box. It's a fairly simply doc. Text, 2 photos and a colored text box and nothing overlaps, same fonts as all the other pages etc. It's designed as all the other pages. This problem only happens with pages 8-9. Everything before & after output fine.
I was thinking maybe it's a corupted prefernces file, but I do have some custom preferences I've made and I've forgot where to find that file and how to restore it if it doesn't work. If I do trash the preferences and close ID, when I relaunch ID and open my .indd catalog file, will it automatically create a new preferences files & load the preferences I have built into the doc?
Any other ideas how to correct this problem?

    Our two standard recommendations:
Trash, Replace, Reset, or Restore the application Preferences: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990
Clean corrupt files by exporting to Interchange Format (.inx): http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526991

See above. You should trash the preferences while ID is closed, not while it is open. It will automatically create new preferences files, yes. It will maintain the preferences that are document-specific when you load the document, yes.
