I have a a Retail Version of iWork '08. How do I determine if this is for a single user or multiple users?

Yes, you can. Apple doesn't "track" serial numbers, but you are doing the right thing by removing iWork '08 & it's registration. The file that keeps the serial number is the com.apple.iWork08.plist found in HD > Library > Preferences. This is the Library on the first level of your HD, not your user Library.

I have been troubleshooting a problem sharing iTunes on a single computer with multiple users that cropped up a few weeks ago and have not had very good luck.
Several months ago I successfully set up my wife’s G4 Laptop (PowerPC processor) so that we could share iTunes on that computer. I had just gotten her an “My Book” external hard drive (Western Digital). The iTunes Library will go on this new unit because the internal drive was running out of room. I successfully set the privileges, moved the entire library onto a “Share” directory and everything worked fine.
In this way, when I got a new CD I could add it to iTunes (under my login, administrator privileges) and she could access it (under her login) to listen to while working on the computer or using her iPod. This arrangement went well for quite awhile.
About a month and a half ago, when I tried to launch iTunes from my login I received this message:
“The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file.”
I think the permissions must have changed when there was an update because my wife is pretty careful about what she does on her computer. Updates were the only thing I could think of that had changed since I had set her computer up. I also noticed that some of the iTunes defaults were different from the last time I had used it to add a CD.
So, I did some reading and went back through the motions of trying to set it up again. I re-formatted the My Book hard drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) added the files back to the external, reset permissions on the external hard drive. (Owners: System, Access: read and write - Group: wheel, Access: read and write – Others: read and write).
When I now launch iTunes under my login I get this message:
“The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.”
What gives? I am the original owner and have always had top-level privileges.
Can someone point me to any articles or clues as to how I need to set-up iTunes on a single computer to be shared by more than one user? Also, I am considering upgrading to the newer system in a few weeks, so if a solution for OS X 10.5 is available, that would work too.

Was your wife logged into the libray at the time you tried to log in? I have had a similar problem and it was because another user was logged into the library when I attempted to. I got the permission denied banner.

Assigning a single task to multiple users in a state machine/ sp d workflow

i have a requirement to implement a workflow based soln.
step1 : approver1 will select few documents , which is provide as a link , with other columns in a gridview
approver1 clicks on a button send to doclib1 and its moved and inserted into doclib1
my workflow should start.
step2 : a task is assigned to leadconsultant1 and a item/items is created in the task list.
leadconsultant1 will review the document/documents and send back to approver1 if its ok.approver1 then send this info to the requestor offline.
step3 : if leadconsultant1 is not reviewing the document , he can select few consultants [asue peoplpickwer control is avlble] and assign same document to multiple consultants.
so here comes the complex part : in a visual studio statemachine workflow , how can i assign single task to multiple users also, when a user completes his task [ means reviews the document the workflow will not be completed. and workflow will be completed
ONLY WHEN all the users selected by the leadconsultant1 completes their review].
or is there anyway in sp designer 2013, i can achieve the same scenario?
help or pointers are highly appreciated!

For this issue, in the first level approval, you can use custom task form to add a field for approvals to add the consultants to approve next.
Then on this task changed event, get the consultants fields value from the task, set the value to a custom field in current item to record the consultants value.
Go to next state, to create next approval task for consultants. Set the task AssignedTo to the fields that store the consultants value.
On the event driven state, onTaskChanged event, check all task status, if all the tasks have been approved, then go to next state.

Updating single row by multiple users at the same time

Hi,
I have been asked to develop an application where a single row from a table will be accessed by multiple users. Even multiple users can try to update the same row at the same time. So, to provide a solution of this problem should it be the best way to lock that particular row when user requesting to update it and after completion of commit the lock will be released. In the same time if some other user request to update the same row then it will be in the wait condition.
Please provide suggestion that is it the best way to handle the situation or not. If it is then can you also please provide an example (with sample code) of it.

It depends entirely on how the system was built.
You could relatively easily build an application that does something like
- Select a row with as last_updated_date column
- Update the row specifying the last_updated_date you had selected in your WHERE clause
- If the update updates 1 row, it was successful, otherwise inform the user that the row was already updated.
In this case, the second user would get an error indicating that the seat had already been purchased.
You could also relatively easily do a SELECT FOR UPDATE to prevent users from ever getting an error between the time they select a seat and the time they finish their transaction. Of course, if the user wanders away from the computer, or inadvertently ends up locking dozens of rows, this tends to rather problematic in practice. You may find that when the train pulls out of the station, someone that never ended up buying a ticket has locked a dozen rows so you lost a dozen sales. If you have a call center where operators are reserving seats for people on the phone, you may decide that explicit locking is more appropriate because you're confident that the operators aren't going to leave tickets locked for long periods of time and the cost of having the customer walked through the seat selection process multiple times would be higher than the cost of having rows locked longer than they need to be.

Can you create a default profile on a single PC with multiple users? Firefox 3.6.10 running on Windows 7.

We have about 15 users sharing the same computer. I would like to create a default firefox profile, so that no matter who logs in, they see the same home page, bookmarks, add ons and so forth. We are running windows 7. Is this possible? It would also be helpful when setting up new computers. This way it is consistent.

Retail license

We have 2 retail copies of Adobe CS 3 Design Premium. We have 2 workstations which run the software. 2 operators use the product as part of their job.
Now, the boss occassionally wants to view their work. Is he entitled to logon to one of the workstations and use the software?
The boss's PC is not powerful enough to run CS3 software.
He will rarely be using the software.
We only have 2 machines capable of running CS3.
I have read the CS3 EULA and it always talks about machines. Users are only mentioned when dealing with the right to install a 2nd copy on a user's laptop and when installing on a server. We don't have any laptops so we don't use that right, and both of our installs are local C: drive installs.
I thought the thread "multiple users, one license, one computer" answered my question, but I've seen another Adobe page (outside EULA) which says all boxed media are single-user.
I am now very confused! Can the boss use the software or not?

Yes - the company purchased the software.
Can you explain what Adobe mean by "single-user" license with retail software? Does this mean 1 concurrent user or 1 named user? If it is 1 named user then I can't see how the boss can use the software himself occassionally.
You'll have to forgive my ignorance, but I am used to Microsoft licensing where you compare users and machines, and have to buy whichever number is higher number of CALs. So in my example, 2 machines, 3 users, we'd need 3 CALs.
We have been let down by our reseller when we wanted to buy extra CS3 software. We got incorrect (upgrade rather than full) media and no volume licenses. We then tried to buy volume licenses direct from Adobe, but they would not match the current promo retail price. So to save $200 a seat we went retail.

In VA01 once you enter into the document and give the sold to party name below that you can see PO No there give only one PO no and and PO date based on the requested quantity the sale order will be created subsequent delivery and billing will happen.

Shared Photo & Music Libraries for Multiple Users on Same Machine

I've setup multiple users on a single machine and I'm trying to have a common shared folder for photos (w/ Adobe PSE) and music (w/ iTunes). First, on photos:
-Tried setting up a folder on /users/shared/pictures. How can I "share" the main folder and have permissions carry down to all subfolders and files?
-I've given the other user permission, but when logged on, Finder window only displays icon, not preview of image? In cover flow mode, image shows up, though?
-Is this the best approach or is /me/public the better way or /me/pictures (shared) a better way?
And then on music:
-recommendations on best approach to have a single library with multiple users and multiple iTunes accounts.

I have small doubt. According to your reply , If we have N number of segments in single IDOC with same fields in all segments then for splitting Single IDOC into Multiple IDOC's based on Segment Type we need to duplicate N number of target IDOC tree structure.
Is that possible to Split single IDOC into Multiple IDOC's based on Segment Type using only one Target IDOC structure without duplicating the Target IDOC structure tree.

Multiple users of single forms

Hi,
I have a situation whereby I'd like to be able to have multiple users haveing input to a single form. This is to establish a type of jobcard system.
e.g.
A form is distributed out to a number of people, they complete a certain section, the forms are then submitted ie returned to the distributor, from here they can be forwarded onto someone else who will compete aditional information onto the form and again submit it.
The coordinator can then review the form data and then forward or save the forms off.
This is likely to be from a PC to PC in the first instance and PC to tablet in the second, ideally with the ability to add photographs.

WIth FormsCentral, you can share a single form with multiple users as Co-Authors. Your shared user will have right to edit/modify/save the form at anytime.
Now, your shared users will need to create (free or paid) accounts in FormsCentral to be able to collaborate on the form.

IWork 09 Family Pack license

I recently purchased an iWork Family pack for use on my three macs. I would like to allow my niece in college to also use this software. Do I have to mail her the original disk, or is there a work-around, such as a family pack serial number?, She is currently using a trial version of the software.

The license for the family pack says
C. iWork Family Pack License. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-labeled computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that same household. By "household" we mean a person or persons who share the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home or condominium, but shall also extend to student members who are primary residents of that household but residing at a separate on-campus location. The Family Pack License does not extend to business or commercial users. You may not make the Apple Software available over a network.
So, unless your niece lives with you when she is not in college, the license doesn't extend to her. She should be able to buy a discounted single or family pack of iWork at her college bookstore or via the online Apple Store for Education.

Yes, this does violate the End User License Agreement. The product is for a single computer with the ability to install and activate on a second alternate computer (such as a mobile or home computer) for when you are not actually using the first computer. You may not "unbundle" the suite for multiple systems concurrent use.
