IWork Pages seems to keep corrupting my files.

Every time I go to duplicate an existing document,  Pages complains it cannot get at the original backup and then hangs indefinitly, usually requiring me to kill it.  After this, the original document will not open and give the warning that it does not have a valid format.  All my versions for the document become inaccessible.
How can I stop OSX Lion from versioning my Pages files and keep this from happening?
TBH, the the changes to File menu, forced use of versioning  and absence of Save As seem like a "Big Loose" for OSX, struggling to not compare it to with Microsloth Windoze Vista. Seems rather forced and bloaty...

Can we assume you're duplicating the document from Pages by choosing the File > Duplicate menu?
This isn't a problem I've seen reported elsewhere. So I'd suggest there's an issue on your Mac that's causing this problem - unrelated to Pages.
Where on your Mac is the original document saved? Is it somewhere in your Documents folder?
Have you checked the permissions for the document? They should be Read & Write for your account and Read Only for other accounts.
All my versions for the document become inaccessible. How can I stop OSX Lion from versioning my Pages files and keep this from happening?
Why do you think it's the Save a Version feature that's causing this problem? There's no need to use the Save a Version feature as Pages automatically creates a version at various intervals. It's just a nicety or optional feature provided by Pages in case you want to manually create a version. And the Save a Version feature is not a replacement for the 'old' File > Save or Save As menu. Saving happens automatically now, without any action on your part.

  • Qmaster seems to be corrupting my files

I am running qadminastrator through qmaster with 5 nodes and one controller. I have run 5 tests today, that being submitting the same file to compressor via "this computer" and then my video cluster. My cluster creates ten segments and there are errors on each finished file when the cluster was used; not when submitted to "this computer". So it seems that qmaster is corrupting my files. Anybody have similar experiences? A search yielded nothing afaik.

  • WARNING - Saving file in Pages 09 format may corrupt your file - WARNING

I used Pages '09 to create and maintain a test log covering some 16 hours of testing effort.
Now that I want to open the file Pages reports: The document "Parallels Test" couldn't be opened.
I was still able to QuickView the document in Finder.
Renaming the .pages to .zip and looking inside I was able to retrieve the Preview.pdf file and print it.
(Thanks to KOENIG's instructions to another thread in this forum)
Lucky for me I use Time Machine and save frequently so I was able to retrieve an earlier version of the document that Pages '09 could open.
So the lost work was minimal.
However when I save the file with my updates Pages 09 is not able to open it.
So I now save the document in Pages 08 format and everything works fine.
I'm gonna stop using Pages 09 format until Apple have fixed this issue.

Re reading your first message I'm not sure of what was available in the 'corrupted' file.
If there was no index.xml file, I can't help.
I may report the fact but without precise infos about what was done, it would be inefficient.
If you kept a copy of the 'corrupted' document, may you send it to my mailbox.
Click my bluename to get my address.
I will look in the internals and if the index.xml can't be read I will send a report with the doc to Apple Bugs Hunters.
Are you storing the doc on a Hard disk or are you storing on a network?

Both ways should create a useable pdf to print directly from your browser.

  • 124 pages of corrupted .plist files for Pages/Numbers

Computer has been very slow and Pages/Numbers will not allow trashed files to be deleted unless the program is open. Least of my concerns. Just ran Disk Warrior and did a file check and got 124 pages of nothing but corrupted .plist files for Pages and Numbers. All references to files look like this, with very slight variations (can't post 124 pages here):
    (hard drive)/com.apple.documentVersions/
    3C712EC1-735C-406C-9BE6-D1D4A1ADD5B8.pages/Metadata/
All of the errors are in com.apple.documentVersions.
Not at ease with deleting all of these .plist files, but these corrupted files are really affecting iMac's performance. iWork updates have been through App Store, don't have original disk to reinstall. What to do?

Sometimes, DiskWarrior simply doesn't know what certain files are, or what to do with them, and tells you they are corrupt. What I would have expected it to find is (hard drive)/.DocumentRevisions-V100 folder, and not what you posted, which has never existed on my OS X machines with Pages/Numbers of any version.
Presumeably, and before you ran DiskWarrior, you booted into Recovery mode and performed 1) verify/repair permissions, 2) verify Disk, and 3) a Safe Boot mode procedure.
I have not updated Disk Warrior for Mavericks compatibility yet. The only time I have used it, was to rebuild the File Directory Structure database, and then only after that database shows over 10% fragmentation. This isn't often.
There are a number of reasons your machine may be slow. See if it has improved after Disk Utility and a Safe Boot. If it continues to be sluggish, you should repost in the Mavericks Discussions within Mac OS & System Software community. This will get more eyes on your performance issues.
You may wish to ensure that you have a good backup of important data too.

  • My iMac just crashed, and I had some documents open in Pages that were unsaved. Is there a temporary file or backup file that I can access as on a PC? (I have just looked in Timemachine which I had operating, but it did not seem to have any temp files).

My iMac just crashed, and I had some documents open in Pages that were unsaved. Is there a temporary file or backup file that I can access as on a PC? (I have just looked in Timemachine which I had operating, but it did not seem to have any temp files in it at all - not sure what it would be useful for then).
    Any suggestions?

Question asked and answered several times.
If you didn't save, nothing is recoverable.
iWork apps don't create temp files so, as far as you on't save something, Time Machine can't archive it.

  • .cab files keep corrupting in Windows XP

    Hi all,
I'm 3 days into trying to install CS3 onto an Xp system so, if you can help me resolve this, you're a genius in my book.  :-)   I keep getting .cab file corruption errors.  I think I've tried just about every trick I could find here in the forums (e.g., copying the disc's contents first to the hard drive, creating a new user account, using CS3 clean script and MS uninstall script, updating MS Installer, and all that jazz).
I eventually tried installing it on a different PC (Vista) and it installed fine there.  I confirmed with 7-Zip's "Test Archive" feature on that system that the cab files on the disc were indeed fine and then copied all the setup files onto a flashdrive and brought that over to the Xp system.  Strangely, no luck...it seems the .cab files get corrupted even on the flashdrive once they are added to the Xp system.  About the only I haven't tried is updating to Xp SP3 (which I'm hesitant to do as I don't want to risk messing up my other programs that work fine with SP2, especially when I don't even know it will fix it).  I read where one guy with a home network installed it using the CD-ROM from one system to install it onto the other system that he was having the install trouble with.  He seemed to believe the problem was a combo hardware/software issue.  I'm thinking of trying this but will need to get it setup.  Do both PCs need to be running the same version of Windows?  Any other possible fixes?

What Flash drives have you tried? Could well be that someting goes wrong when the files get written to them. Still, since it seems you started out with the original discs on the system, that doesn't seem to be the problem. More likely some security tool is scanning the files and damaging or Windows' own DEP has for some reason been set for cabinet files. So I'd definitely look into that. the version of Windows shouldn't matter. CS3 was developed at the high times of XP, so it primarily was made for that andjust the otehr way around, Vista compatibility is the bare minimum required.

  • Can't download music because ""File seems to be corrupt.''

In the past 24 hours I have attempted to download 3 songs from iTunes, but get this message: ""The file seems to be corrupted. To redownload the file, choose ""Check for Purchases'' from the store menu.'' When I do that, the same message comes back again and again. iTunes has already sent me a receipt and charged me for the downloands, yet I haven't actually received them. Any suggestions/explanations?

the same thing has happened to me. i tried to download the same song 2 days ago and i was charged but when i try to download it it gives me that notice. my sister said that happened to her and you have to repurchase the song but its not really fare because you have to purchase the song twice.

My MacBook (late 2009 Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) often runs VERY slow...beach ball of death frequently.  My page ins (3.29GB), page outs (5.64BG), and swap files (10GB) seem extremely high in comparison to most other discussions in here.   I don't know how to copy the pie chart so it shows on here but here's what it says right now:
    Free - 176 MB
    Wired - 592MB
    Active - 843MB
    Inactive - 432MB
    Used - 1.82 GB
    VM size - 198GB
The page ins and page outs have 0 bytes/sec in the parenthesis even though the numbers are so high.
Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

You difinately need more ram. 2gb is the bare minimum to run just the Lion OS, anything extra will slow your Mac to a crawl. Upgrade to 8gb from either Crucial http://www.crucial.com/ or OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/
And you will be a happy camper!

  • I'm unable to update my iphone, it keeps saying a file is corrupt and to check my network connection

I keep trying to update my iphone and it keeps saying the file directory is corrupt.  What should I do?

If your doing this on your phone you need to do it with the computer. Did you jailbreak your iPhone because it causes this, by the way I wouldn't reccomend jailbreaking.

  • There was a problem downloading song. The file seems to be corrupted.

    Hi
I'm trying to download an album i purchased but i'm constantly getting the message "There was a problem downloading X. The file seems to be corrupted" for every song I try to download. Also if i try to stream the song it says "This computer is not authorized to play X. Would you like to authorize it". But my computer is already authorized and when I try to authorize it again, it says this computer is already authorized.
I've tried downloading them through the purchased section of the store (which causes itunes to crash 50% of the time) with no luck. I've also reinstalled itunes. This only started happening once I installed the latest version of itunes.
    Any help would be appreciated

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not downloading properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

  • Song won't download because the "File seems to be corrupt". Now what?

I purchased a song through iTunes and am trying to download it on my PC.  The song tries to download 4 TIMES, then displays an ERROR MESSAGE that THE SONG COULD NOT BE DOWNLOADED.  THE FILE SEEMS TO BE CORRUPT.  RETURN TO THE "CHECK FOR AVAILABLE DOWNLOADS" IN THE STORE MENU.  I have done this several times.  NO CHANGE, ALWAYS THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE.  What do I do next.  I either want the song to correctly download or get a refund for the purchase.  Please Help.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
